    Looks like an unlikely packing partner... but so neat that s/he joined you. Lovely place to camp, I love the spot you picked… I also love those beautiful mountains and the scenery is just gorgeous… Thank you for bringing me along. Happy trails 💜

    Some beautiful scenery you have there in your neck of the world! VERY nice to see you guys pack properly. In my area, we end up having to do search and rescue operations quite frequently, and it seems many of them are for folks that just don't plan. Loved the Evil Dead reference, too! My favorite was the third one. "This is my boomstick! Shop smart- shop S Mart...YOU GOT THAT!!!" Blair Witch was cool, too, but I never liked the runny nose part!
    Thanks for the sub! I returned the favor. You're almost at the magic 1,000! Keep on hiking, and happy trails!

    I was enjoying this trail from the outset. The mountains got me hooked but so did your steady commentary. There were a number of tricky bogs to negotiate - don't you just love em. Yeah you gotta watch it - half your leg disappears in an instant. Hey, the Germans were right after all and the sign of course. Fabulous stuff. All the best. Mark

    I think Glenfinnan is where the Clans were raised for the 1745 rebellion.
    Those Highland cattle can be quite narky at times. One year, when doing a camping tour; we parked near a field with a herd nearby. My German Shepherd (in the car), wanted to start a fight with them And they wanted to come through the hedge. We had to get going - FAST haha We used to drive right round Scotland (sticking to the coast when possible). Smashing place, Smashing people.

      Good times, back in the day I've driven around Scotland hillwalking and sleeping in my car and stuff. I've also done the NC500 at the turn of the millennium before it became overcrowded! Lot's of history up there I always take the time to read the information boards but soon forget it all!😅👍🍺

    Great video. I done Cape wrath trail twice once on it own with fantastic weather almost every day. Second time I did large part it on the end to end trail which goes from john o, groats then cuts across to a large part it. Then onto lands end after a long walk. Fantastic weather again. Love that trail. Thanks for the video.

    • @snowymatrix
      @snowymatrix  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes that cabin or old house in the mountains is called a bothy. There are many in Scotland and Northern England and these places provide free shelter from the mountains to anybody that needs it. They are very basic so no tap water, toilet or electricity but they do have fireplaces. I prefer the sanctuary of my tent and being close to nature when in the mountains so have never overnighted in one. Also I don't like to disturb the mice and rats in there!✌️😎

Looking forward to watch part two. The markings made by the stone's where not there in 2017. The bridge crossing river carnoch was no more save so its taken out of order.

    Well done snowy matrix, and it was good to see your lovely face in this film. Yes I fully agree about the fire scar, no need for a fire, summer or winter. Again I have to agree with you about the bothy, much prefer to camp. However, the bothy looked very clean and inviting, but if I’d have been in there it wouldn’t be too long before several JBP turned up!!! Brilliant film. ⛺️

    • @snowymatrix
      @snowymatrix  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha, thanks Mike! I grew up in an age where we used to burn rubbish in the garden. I grew out of lighting 🔥 by the time I was a teenager! I can understand people lighting fires to practice bushcraft and survival skills in a forest on bare ground, that's fine. But anybody who lights a fire in a grass meadow scaring the ground is an idiot and that's putting it mildly. Thanks for watching, mate!👍😎

    Hi Snowy! This is Eric from Wheels to Wander. Cool to see you going on the Cape Wrath! Maudi and I tried in 2011 and did not make it. A little bit to green behind the ears so to say. One day we will return to Scotland and try once again... mandatory because a piece of our hearts lay there between the rainbows and bogs! Congrats on reaching 1000K!!

    • @snowymatrix
      @snowymatrix  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Eric and Maudi, I hope your amazing bicycle tour is going well! The Cape Wrath Trail will still be there for you and me because I only did 140 miles of it to Ullapool. I was unlucky with the weather and chose the most mountainous routes and ran out of food near Ullapool. I took a taxi into town to restock and didn't have the will to continue on! I regret it now because I was too tempted by the easy life in Ullapool and its array of fast food restaurants. I'll be back in the spring to finish what I started and then one day go back and do the whole lot in one go. I know you understand why!! Thank you for the congrats! Atb :-)

    Great video - good info for us to get back to when we finally get round to tackling the trail ourselves (were planning to do it this year, but work, time and money had other ideas :-/). How do you get the daily ascent and descent info? Are you sticking to the guidebook stages or do you have a gps-thingy to record your altitudes?

    • @snowymatrix
      @snowymatrix  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! I was using the viewranger app to get the stats on the trail. You just need to start the record track feature and it will give you lots of stats on your smart phone. I was also using this app as my primary navigation because I download all the maps for the trail onto the phone meaning i only needed gps signal for the app to work correctly. If you don't do this and just rely on mobile signal the app will still show and record the track but the map will not show meaning it would be useless for navigation when you lose signal which I'm sure you know happens always in the mountains.

      Heidi Stiene I forgot to mention that I also downloaded the free gpx file of the recommended route from the walk highlands website so i could see in real time where I was compared to the walk highlands route. Maps and a compass still have their place and I always carry them but this is the 21st Century so we must embrace technology too because it's so much easier to navigate with the viewranger app with offline maps!

      @@snowymatrix yeah, we always take both, too: map and compass in case electronics fail and electronics in case our brains fail (which happens a lot :-D)

    Quite a Trek through some Magnificent Scenery!! Are the water sources pristine enough or do you boil or chlorinate 4 drinking purposes!!

      Thanks for watching! The Sawyer stayed in my pack most of the trip! I was drinking straight from the source it was divine! Only on one or two occasions when the water looked a bit yellow because of the peat bogs did I get the filter out. I'm sure it would have been fine but I filtered it anyway. Like I say in my video, I've been walking in the Scottish mountains since 1995 and it's only the last couple of years that I have even owned a water filter! 👍😎
