Thank you for this video. Great instructions. I recently got into Eurorack and bought the Expert Sleeper E-3 and E-6 to hook into Ableton using TOSLINK. This will prevent having to buy Midi to CV module.
Awesome walkthrough, just what I was looking for , great to see someone explaining clearly how to link up the Es9 with your modular as well , look forward to more 👍🇦🇺
Yes! I recently made the dive into modular and bought an ES-9 specifically to connect with Ableton. I’ve been fumbling along slowly with CV tools, but the “manual” for that pack is only a few sentences. Just a description, not really application ideas. I would love to see more. Thanks!
hey @CatalyzeMusicAcademy, I am trying to setup my es9 and running into frustrating issues. Essentially, I am trying to use this so that I can get a multitrack output from my modular rack into ableton, and be able to monitor what's coming into ableton from the rack w/ my studio ref monitors that are connected to my Apollos. Do you know how to do this? Also, when I select ES9 as both the input/output in Ableton it keeps making Ableton crash. Any help you can offer, or a link to a valuable resource is massively appreciated!
Wow, very nice tutorial. I actually had no clue what that was for. Quick question though. Why go through all the trouble and playing with cables and complex routing instead of just using a vst? Thank you for your fantastic tutorials.
I wish I would’ve watched this about 10 months ago when I got started. I tried a lot of different modules to figure this out because my first es9 was broken and I was pulling my hair out around reset. Two things. I noticed you had your monitoring to auto. You haven’t noticed significant latency? Second thing. You started to plug reset into ‘run’ on Pam’s. Where does that send reset pulse to? That doesn’t reset my Euclidean circles when plugged into reset. Curious what you meant by that. Also… one more thing. Have you done a shootout between midi clock, es9 clock out vs es9 clock in? What’s the most accurate? I’ve been wondering about accuracy of something like yarns vs es9 clock/out vs clock/in. Curious your thoughts. Thanks!
@@CatalyzeMusicAcademy Sweet man, thanks for the response! One of the things that's worked for me recently is sending the reset pulse of the CV tools clock out transport to a separate output of ES9 to a mult and pulling from there for my sequencers. Another thing I figured out (while first es9 was toast) was that pams can send a reset on either the end or beginning of a clock running. It just pings once like CV tools clock out transport. It looks like a little square wave in the window of pams. It was a little jittery for me though but it could've been a cable. Anyways, thanks man. Would love to see more of this stuff in the future.
How is your audio output set up from Live? Meaning, do you essentially have two interfaces, one being the ES-9 and another one coming out of Live to monitors or whatever?
@@CatalyzeMusicAcademy With this in mind, please don't forget REALLY obvious, basic stuff like assigning the ES-9 as the in/out in preferences! That may seem like a no-brainer to most folks but for total beginners it's really good to have everything explained in very simple steps! I have been following this and have got to 3:57 but I can only see options for "1/2" "1" "2" and "no output" (?) There's no 9 to be seen. What am I doing wrong? Great vid so far!
The reason why you can't calibrate the Noise Engineering module correctly is because they don't provide pitch CV -5V - +5V. I had this problem and emailed them. The workaround is to calibrate with another VCO which has pitch CV and swap over after.
@@CatalyzeMusicAcademy @Catalyze Music Academy Hi! Great video. I'm also using the Iteriras and am also having issues tuning to C3. How do you tune to a lower C? When I calibrate via the CV Instrument it automatically calibrates to C3!
Hey there, do you have to have inputs in order for this to work or can you just have say the ES3 to send CV from say a Abelton or Vcv and monitor through other output source?
I was just looking for similar tutorials yesterday and here it is. Now I need a second part! Thank you, well explained 🙏
Very useful and instructive thank you so much

your channel is awesome man - great explanations, your delivery is perfect as well!
Thanks for doing this, appreciate.
You are the Man!
Fantastic!!!! Thanks a lot!
love it!!

Will you do a studio tour later on?
Does your Es-9 also get quite warm? ES says that's normal and I worry about my other modules and the case
