Citroen C5 X review - Is It Really That Good? | batchreviews

  • I was blown away by the new Citroen C5 X when I drove it in Spain last year. But did the Spanish sun get to my head? Can I honestly say this is still one of my favourite cars?
    To find out, I asked Citroen if I could borrow one for three weeks to really get to know it. Here's what I found in this real-world review.
    If I look a bit familiar then you might have seen me on Carbuyer and Auto Express TH-cam channels.

      @@wasimdar8336 Thanks for asking! Actually I traded it in for a fully electric car after one year. The C5X's ride was very comfortable and I really liked it. On the other hand the powertrain wasn't especially good and electric range a bit poor.

  • @bernds8656

    I own the C5X as 224 HO hybrid version since a few weeks now. I am really happy with it, I can't confirm the critic on the gearbox. Works just extreme smooth and accurate. The car is so silent, you can hardly notice the difference when it switches from electric to conventional drive. Even without loading the battery I could reach a useage of 5,3 l/100km , there is an intelligent algorythm to charge the battery when the car is rolling, breaking or going downhill and use this savings for the next acceleration.

      @eludereluded ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, 3 months later how would you rate the car? Can you compare the ride comfort and sound insulation to some of the luxury brands? Have you done long trips already? What was the fuel economy?
      Currently I own the Citroen C5 X7 and it's quite comfortable and relatively economic, so I wonder if it's worth to spend 50k EUR on the new one.

    • @bernds8656
      @bernds8656 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@eludereluded until now I have 13.000 km, mostly long rides (100km or more) and sometimes 500 or more. I am still happy with the car. Fuel: Without charging you can calculate 5.5 to 6 l/100km when driving 100km/h and 7 l/100km when driving 130 km/h. I never owned other luxury brands so I cant compare, sorry ;-) My former was a Renault Megane and the C5X is a big step forward. Also I did spent "only" 40k for the new C5k (version Shine, not Shine Pack).

    Can't for the life of me understand why the D segment is dying out in Europe. Why would I choose a heavier car, with a higher center of gravity, so less stable, over a streamlined and beautiful sedan? To be able to park it on the pavement? What other advantages does this crossover/fastback/SUV form offer? They're not even roomier than a standard sedan, most of the time they have awfully small boots. And don't tell me they offer better protection in case of an accident, that's an urban myth basically.

The car is a nice design, but 5:02 the strips, although practical, remind me of a hearse. 5:46 Not sure what the justification is to declare that "keyless entry hardly ever works in most cars". I drove the hybrid 2 times now. One of the things I noticed, was that under full acceleration, there was a tremor in the drivetrain. Both cars had this.
    For the rest, a comfy car but I don't agree with the hype around it. It's not like a new standard. At least, not to me.
    Also, with the special glass, I found the level of wind noise still a bit high. My BMW 3-serie has "acoustic glass" for the front doors, and the wind noise is simply gone. And that has nothing to do with the brand (I think).
    Anyway. For the money it is a good car.

    In urban driving and cruising the 1.2 petrol is absolutely fine and on long runs, I achieve a genuine 46mpg / 32 to 34 around town. The engine is silent apart from a growl whilst accelerating. In the Sense Plus I do not find the seats particularly comfortable, due to a metal support strut under the squab where my thighs are, that cuts out the blood flow to my legs. Maybe the leather seats are better? Because the car is assembled in China, it is well screwed together and I have not had any faults in 10,500 kms of motoring.
    Remember only the Hybrid models have adaptive suspension which is brilliant. The standard suspension even with hydraulic bushes, is not impressive at all and crashes or bottoms out driving over sunken manhole covers. The car should have self-levelling suspension or headlights, due to the soft long travel rear suspension. You have to manually adjust to avoid dazzling oncoming drivers.

      That’s odd, as I’ve got a 33 year old Citroën BX 16 Valve GTi, a 23 year old Citroën XM and a 20 year old Citroën C5 and they all work perfectly well. If you want unreliable and ‘unstable’, just buy German. The German brands are normally at the top of the league charts for the most unreliable cars out there.

      I own a C6 over many years and 60k miles. Just the odd part has needed replacing. But no different from any other car. If only people realised the automotive supply chain and the control measures within. Sweeping statements meant it was a great second hand purchase though so thank you

    That U N R E L I A B L E 1.2T -search it up-, the not at all economic 1.6T and those PHEV you're supposed to be happy using on the freeway with all that extra weight being carried by the 1.6T.
    Powertrain wise its a piece of crap, and that alone is a perfect reason for just going for a less pretentious and better built Skoda. I sincerely hope this is another failure for Stellantis.
    PLUS, the design from the rear 3/4 is just ungainly and disproportionate. It's just sad how PSA/Stellantis is trying so hard to make these newer Citroens stand out just by the looks (with those horrible/tacky color combinations on their smaller models) while being completely cheap and generic on the mechanics, unlike Citroens from before. Worst part is people are buying into their marketing bullshit 🤣
