In 1978 I was custodian of a new CX 2400 EFI Prestige and a RR SSII. The Prestige was superior for both drivers & passengers plus reliability until the CX series I rust set in 5 years down the track. Fixed with Series II CX. The Roller had that elusive WAFT factor, and could be quite sprightly and surprising nimble when punted quickly. 4 Prestiges for 1 RR... The C5 X seems to have recaptured Citroen style and comfort...
I'm a big fan of this channel since I discovered it. My only suggestion is a small review of the sound quality. Most of the drivers have the radio switched on during their car journeys
I absolutely love my Citroën C5x 1.6 Lt Petrol 8 Speed ... It's like being in your lounge room so super comfortable and yes, unique at most. Well super done Mat Watson for such a brilliant review.
Fun fact Citron: I have owned this hybrid for a few months now and i am an absolute fan of the driving experience. absolutely great. the fuel consumption in normal driving mode (20-60km) is 1.3liter, on a fast highway trip to italy (370km, 115km/h average) 6liter/100km, giving an average of 3.7. I love the car, looking forward getting into it...
In the past, with Citroën's hydraupneumatic suspension, if you wanted to change the stiffness of your suspension, you could replace the hydraulic spheres with different ones that had different characteristics which resulted in an entirely different suspension feel. Additionally, with newer models, the suspension stiffens up more depending on your driving. If you drive a bit "wilder" the suspension's default will be more stiff than the factory default and this is saved across driving sessions.
Does this car have hydropneumatic suspension? I didn't hear him mention the word in this review, but I know Citroen is known for it, and I already like this car enough that if I ever find myself living in Europe in the future I will be trying to find one of these as a daily driver, but having that suspension would just be icing on the cake as we don't get anything at all with it over here in the US.

I was looking for a ULEZ-compliant car and lookjed at loads of reviews on TH-cam. None of them had a bad word to say about this car. So I went and bought one. It's an ex-demo hybrid version and has all the toys, including a sub-woofer which, together with the traction battery, unfortunately reduces the under-floor space on the boot. I like quirky cars - have had a FIAT Multipla and a Chrysler 300C. The C5 X is the most comfortable of the lot, uses NO petrol most of the time, and is the kind of car that makes you want to drive sedately. Thankfully I also have a Hayabusa :)

PSA in general have really upped their game. Just hope they’re also making improvements under the hood to their build quality and reliability. Especially concerning the electronic wiring which they are known to be pretty crappy. Also I hope their engine layouts are more logical because they are generally a mechanic’s worst nightmare. Citroëns have always looked fantastic imo…
@@Dragoneer yeah I had a pug 307 (06) it single handedly put me off anything from the PSA group it was god awful xD but lately I've only heard good things from owners, hopefully the stigma will fade ^,,^
What a great review. I mean, not just the car but also the bants and the presentation. As for the car, it seems that Citroën have really upped their game with the big jobs when reviewers are saying just go ahead and buy it. I drive a C5 X7 Tourer (the last of the hydropneumatics) and I don't think anyone full on recommended it like that. The C5X will be top of the list to replace that. I wonder what an estate would look like.
Spooky fact. I've just bought this very car. I pick it up this Monday. I wish I'd seen this first, as I probably could have got some more money off, given the way Matt treated it...😀
Tested the Hybrid C5 X twice this week. It’s a very comfortable car for the price range it’s in. While the ride is extremely comfortable and supple, some road surfaces it feels rough over. Usually broken tarmac which can send a surprising amount of vibration through the car. Some quality issues with the stitching on my test car with 4000 miles. There also some cheapness to the underfloor insulation, especially noticeable when you’re driving in the rain.

Previous Citroens have an above view monitor. Not quite the same thing. A 360° camera has 4 cameras, where as the above view only has 1 on the rear. You initially get just a rear view but as you move it takes photos and the computer sort of stitches the image together giving a 360° view, sort of. Only the rear part of that image is live though.
What an amazing car, just like the old C6 but a new refreshed version. it looks really good, all those people that picks german cars only do so because they are an item to showoff while the C5x is much more unique and in many ways better. I had the pleasure to drive one of these for a week while i had my own C3 Aircross in to the mechanics and it was addicting, even the new C4 is really good with the same suspention !
Even tho i ain't a fan of most 'coupe' SUVs, this doesn't look that bad Edit: Alr, I've found out this is a lifted estate/fastback saloon like that weird Honda Accord Cross
I've always liked Citroen, in fact, my fave car was my 1st gen BX GTI 16valve (had the Peugeot 405 Mi16 engine IIRC), and was super quick, especially after I added a full Scorpion stainless exhaust system, K&N filter kit and polished Pug 205 GTI wheels 😁 Anyway, enough of that, I really like the look of this C5 X, and it seems it'd be heaven for my knackered back, with being able to soak up all the bumps and holes on our shitty UK roads.
it does feel like 7 seconds when i accelarate. it drives quite well. surprisingly agile, precise, yet retains amazing suspension and confort. fuel economy is also reasonable if you drive it normally.
The problem for top-of-the-range French cars is that they depreciate very quickly. No matter how good they are, second-hand buyers shun them. That is a shame because they have a lot to offer. However, I, like many buyers would never choose one.
we have a 2010 C5 tourer with the hydractive III at home and it is really confy, it has the double glass also. it is a really good traveller car but damn is a boat when you have a to go on to a curvy road...
Engage 'sport', it's not a massive difference, but it does firm things up a bit. My dashcam caught a conversation between two mechanics when I took mine for it's MOT and service recently (they drove it to an MOT station). They were saying it was the most comfortable car they'd ever been in. Obviously never been in the older big Citroëns then. I reckon this C5X will be even better in most circumstances. Can't wait to test drive one.
@@tedarcher9120 Yeah, I know what suspension it has and I'm keen to try it to compare - arriving in a C5 and driving a C5X straight from one to the other should do the trick. Reviewers are raving about it, so I reckon it'll match the old HAIII for most things, especially with the adaptive damping. Where it won't match it is with the self-levelling, which I used to great effect at the weekend.
I wish they made it a more proper estate. The roof should not drop down for back seats and should extend to the end of the car with more vertical tailgate
In 1978 I had a new CX 2400 EFI Prestige and a new RR Silver Shadow II My passengers found greater comfort in the Prestige. As a driver noting matched the CX fingertip pod controls or the amazing Diravi self centring speed sensitive steering with 2.5 turns lock to lock. The SSII had Citroen rear suspension. The CX had a better ride and handling. The Rolls had that elusive WAFT factor and could actually be punted quite sprightly for a large beast. Like many late 70s British cars the RR Shadow IIs were not so reliable. The Prestige was faultless until rust set in....
@@archiebarber9802 if it was my own money I'd get the Citroen especially when you consider that some of the options on a RR are more expensive than this entire car 🤷♂️
Great comfortable car, had one for a week whilst my BMW 530 was having gearbox issues, and heck drive to Cornwall was fantastic, makes you realise the sporty setups as my BMW at twice the price might be wrong option..in a country with a 70mph speed limit
Since diesels (which would this type of car) are out of favour, economy is sought by a 1.2 Litre 130 PS petrol. A decent enough engine is a smaller car maybe.
It's a good engine, yeah. I have the detuned 100hp version of it in my Corsa. Fairly decent on fuel, averaging around 6L/100km, and reasonably punchy. + it's really quiet as well. I like it quite a lot
Could it be that the 0-60 is faster, because Citroën measures 0-100 km/h, and 60 mph is only 96 km/h which it'll reach faster? I feel like you normally use 62 mph, but it's still weird that we have 2 different measurements for something that should be similar.

Hi Mat, I am always watching your reviews from SA. Honestly, I fell in love with the very first video I watched back in 2018 and have subscribed since then and always following your reviews. I got to say that, you’re feeding my curiousity and knowledge on vehicles. I like every aspect of your show(s) and in my opinion, you offer the best reviews even to a novice about cars. Your videos are well constructed, consistent and accommodating for everyone and very age group.
Keep it up Mat, you’re doing a great job.

Love to see them making comfortable, big, quirky cars!

Looks a really good car! Citroen seem to have gone back to their roots and are cranking out some great cars currently.
Had mine eight months now, still love it.Great car & good value. The 1.2 engine more than enough power.
At least C5 X is better than Impreza WRX STi 2007. That car is like a wagon.

Citroen proves again who got one of the comfiest suspension in the market
Fun fact Citron: I have owned this hybrid for a few months now and i am an absolute fan of the driving experience. absolutely great.
the fuel consumption in normal driving mode (20-60km) is 1.3liter, on a fast highway trip to italy (370km, 115km/h average) 6liter/100km, giving an average of 3.7. I love the car, looking forward getting into it...
Saw one in person and it looks a lot more impressive then on video/photos.
8:34 Guy (Not Mat): Back back back back back back back back back back back!
@@moogle68 I believe this one has a revised version of it so it's not like the older ones, but it should still be great. I personally haven't been in this one, but we have several older citroën cars
Yes, it has hydraulic suspension. I am the Citroen C5x car mentioned last week, produced in China @@moogle68

Eames chair is definitely not French. Charles & Ray Eames, and midcentury modern in general, is a high point in American design - up until the currently burgeoning era of great American design brought on by Apple, Tesla, etc.

Come on guys, no one really mentioned the best humorous expert car presenting this guy does? Please... YOU rock dude, made me laugh while still presenting all there is about these cars. Thank you, keep it up! 😂🤘
Your old school wiper sounds were spot on.
Let me guess, a spam bot will reply below me 👇
Edit: this is how you win
I agree, but in terms of reliability (if the customer satisfaction surveys are to be believed) they are top 10 these days.
@@CaiSpidox That’s great news because that is the one thing that would put me off buying either a Peugeot or Citroën car

The arm becoming back window wiper... Lovely!
I am french and I appreciate good cars. That's why I drive German cars :)
Really love how modern Citroens look.
Thank God for Carwow videos.. They review french cars for us so we don't even bother to think about buying any of them.
Honest review of a great comfort car. I am just disappointed they don't have diesel anymore!
Yep. It also got 300bhp. Like Citroen C4 WRC.
CO2 is killing the planet, diesels produce 30% less CO2 than petrol (and use less fuel). It doesn't make sense
The Eames chair is American. 'Recognized as an icon of American design' according Herman Miller.
The new Citroen C5 X is a good family SUV and a good SUV for ones who love cheap luxury!
It’s more of a bridge between a sedan body and an suv body, as well as a wagon. I believe the SUV is the aircross model

8:50 The Citroën C4 Picasso from 2013 also has that surround camera system
Yep.

I've always liked Citroen, in fact, my fave car was my 1st gen BX GTI 16valve (had the Peugeot 405 Mi16 engine IIRC), and was super quick, especially after I added a full Scorpion stainless exhaust system, K&N filter kit and polished Pug 205 GTI wheels 😁

The problem for top-of-the-range French cars is that they depreciate very quickly. No matter how good they are, second-hand buyers shun them. That is a shame because they have a lot to offer. However, I, like many buyers would never choose one.
Saw the car today. Looks very very nice!
Yeah it looks amazing in real life
It’s a shame we don’t have them in the USA. Wonderful cars. The most comfortable to ride ever.

Same with my 2005 c5😂 so comfy but no sporty driving😂
My dream car is diesel V6 C5 tourer, man they just eat the road
Engage 'sport', it's not a massive difference, but it does firm things up a bit. My dashcam caught a conversation between two mechanics when I took mine for it's MOT and service recently (they drove it to an MOT station). They were saying it was the most comfortable car they'd ever been in. Obviously never been in the older big Citroëns then. I reckon this C5X will be even better in most circumstances. Can't wait to test drive one.
@@PedroConejo1939 sadly this citroen doesn't have a hydropneumatic suspension anymore, just some good dampers. So it probably won't be as confy
It sounds like the C5X may be the pick of the bunch so far, but we've only had this and the DS 4. Can't wait to see what the 408 brings.
Mat thank you so much for this insane video!

I wish they made it a more proper estate. The roof should not drop down for back seats and should extend to the end of the car with more vertical tailgate
I would have a Citroen over a rolls Royce anyway 💁🏽♂️
You’re delusional
A big Citroën is more tasteful 👍🏻
In 1978 I had a new CX 2400 EFI Prestige and a new RR Silver Shadow II
My passengers found greater comfort in the Prestige.
Dont think you really would though

It's important to sit in comfort while you are stuck on the roadside waiting for the tow truck
Could it be that the 0-60 is faster, because Citroën measures 0-100 km/h, and 60 mph is only 96 km/h which it'll reach faster? I feel like you normally use 62 mph, but it's still weird that we have 2 different measurements for something that should be similar.
