Meat Loaf considered himself (and actually was) an accomplished Broadway performer and performed rather than sang his songs. One of a kind.

This is from his 85 tour supporting the Bad Attitude album. The two backing female vocals are Katie Mac and Doreen Chanter.
Every song Meat had a different character for, so what you've basically got a method actor doing an 1.30 hr -2 hr show, constantly inter-changing characters.

Thank you for the great reaction.
Sorry for the spelling and grammar.
In order to sell the bat out of hell album in the 70's he performed 6 days a week sometimes twice a day becuse the record company didn't like he was overweight and asked radio stations not broadcast his songs so he just threw everything into every performance and after ever concert he whould collapse backstage and need oxygen he also damaged his voice with over using it but threw word of mouth it became one of the best selling albums of all time I think its at 4th all time right now with 44 million copies.
In the early 80's he had a mentle breakdown and went bankrupt and steinman tried realesing a album he recoded himself which was originaly written for Meat but couldn't becuse of his damaged voice, the album floped so bad when Meat loafs voice had recoverd enugh to record the record companys refused to produce a stienman record, so meat started touring in 81 again but very small shows and some recoded albums from other writers and some songs he wrote himself ''he admitted they wer bad'' but they floped in the US but did well in europe the shows wer just meat his band and his wife who organzed the shows and by 85 his voice was back too full strenth.
In the 93 stienman wrote bat out of hell 2 for Meat loafs which had the song ''I whould do anything for love but I wont do that'' which was no1 in over 20 contery's.
He kept performing and recording until 2018 when his back gave out but his voice started to decline from about 2005 by 2010 it was sadly unrecognizable although didn't stop him from trying still needing oxgen after every concert infact he fanted on stage a few times in the 2010's onetime he fanted on stage got oxgen and finshed the concert. He performed 3 songs last year on tv as a tribute to stienman thers a video on TH-cam called Meat Loaf Legacy - Live 2021 September 25.
His personal favourite songs was ''for crying out loud'' but he rarely performed it live becuse he cried everytime and it effected his singing so if you want hear it look for a lyric video.
His second favourite was ''objects in the rear view mirror may appear closer than they are'' which is an amazing story song. Thers a truly great live performance of this on a channel called TheHungryPony.
Sorry I dont know how to link video's thank you if you read all of this.

Jim Steinman (piano) wrote all of the songs on this album. Unfortunately, we lost both of them within a couple of months of each other.😭😭😇😇
I still have this album on LP.
"I know you're lookin' for a ruby in a mountain of rocks,
but there ain't no coupe DeVille hiding at the bottom of a crackerjack box".

There was a video on the recording of this song. The producer Todd Rundgren did not want to add the motorcycle but Steinman insisted. He said he was totally blown away when Rundgren agreed and asked how this was. He twisted a few knobs on his guitar and got the motorcycle. Steinman said writjng this was an attempt to write the ultimate car/motorcycle song. Don't know if he did it but he came close

The writer was a genius named Jim Steinman who wrote most of bat out of hell and many other artists who made hits out of them like making love out of nothing at all, left in the dark again and about100 more like them. The whole rod lost a lot of priceless talent when Jimmy died

  • @ChrisB-xm3mg

The song is actually not usually mostly guitar solo. That’s some thing that I was added for the live version which I don’t think I’ve ever heard before and I really enjoyed it too. If you want some other really good meatloaf stuff I recommend checking out a song called objects in the rearview mirror are closer than they appear. Very cheesy total I know that’s actually something that meatloaf was pretty bad about a times. But the song is extremely powerful. It’s one of my favourites of his. Make sure you get the longer version of it as there is a version that has one of the verses cut out of it, and the original is the one you want to hear. Another one that I really like is lost boys and golden girls.

Meat Loaf heated performing this song as when it was released it was considered the standard he had to perform to every time. The pressure was heavy on him. I highly urge you to watch his interview with Dan Rather here on TH-cam, "The Great Interview." It will give you insight on the depth of this man and his perspective on performing. He always gave 110% on stage. I recall reading somewhere in a comment they would have oxygen off stage for him. Don't know if that's true or not, but it's a great story.

He had that tank because he gave so much of himself during concerts he would literally run out of 02 lt became harder to stay conscience he had a stroke one night right after aconcert. when he got the tanks
About him not writing the songs you aren’t wrong’ the genius jimSteirn wrote most of them but the ones es he wrote for meat, he had some creative control over Jim also wrote many others that were picked up l that were picked up by other artists, check him out you will be amazed. He’s extremely talented and underrated😢
Concerning how did he get so deep in character the answer is easy. He invented every one of them lol

Some believe it’s the same girl. He talks about the “snow piling up”, and says that “you’ve been cold to me so long, I’m crying icicles instead of tears”. Then later he talks about the only girl that he “will ever love” leaving him on “that stormy night”. So SHE came and wanted him BACK and he told her what she told him first. “Two out of three ain’t bad.” 🙂

Listened to a couple "First time hearing" videos for this song. You are the first one who really understood the song. Yes! It's in two parts. First, he tells a woman that he will never love her. Then, he explains why. The only girl he will ever love said the same thing to him. Excellent reflection!!!

And before she couldn't love him despite all his love for her , and he gave her everything he had in himself and heart.
When she came back , he had no love for her left in his heart that she tore from him when she left him before and now that she came back , he still wants her and needs her but he can't love her because he the love in h1is heart no longer exists for her because his love and his trust and belief in her , she also took with her , when she left him years ago 💔

It's so annoying that they constantly block the videos. I only became an Alice Cooper and a Meat Loaf fan by watching reaction videos and music videos of them. They don't understand that a lot of people nowadays buy the records because they click on a music video. Often it's not the artist that doesn't want the videos to be watched. I remember Alice Cooper telling us a few years ago "Hey, that's a good video of me singing that song. You should watch it!" I clicked on it, but it said "blocked in your country". It happened many times. In the meantime I bought over 15 Alice Cooper CDs and DVDs and 3 Meat Loaf CDs. Now tell me that they don't profit from these videos.
It took a while but meanwhile the gaming industry understood that people will buy their games after watching a Let's play. Same here: I bought most of my video games because I watched a Let's play of them.

Are you serious? The final chest voice performance is out of this world. As a singer I cannot out into words how difficult it is to put that much power into that higher pitch as a tenor. He was desired by the opera world for a reason. It’s effortless and just about as good a singing as you’ll ever hear from someone.
