First Ice Perch Fishing
There’s nothing quite like Perch Fishing. Especially if you can find them schooled up with the hope of landing a Jumbo Perch.
I picked out a lake on a map 🗺 that I’ve never fished before in either season, Ice or Open water & had some success. It’s always a challenge forcing yourself out of your comfort zone. Sometimes you just have to go with the flow as you read the lake, the fish & the bite.
For two morning bites I go after Yellow Perch on Blackstrap Lake Saskatchewan.

That's how I fish in SW WWisconsin. Drill 100 hole's on structure and bounce around with the fish during first ice.. Once ice has been on the lake's for awhile and people have been really fishing quite a bit, I find myself moving alot less and letting the fish come to me. On windy day's like you had Id be in the portable shack out of that wind.

I do the same, drill lots on structure or weed flats usually. Then hole hop. It’s crazy some times when you have a good bite going at just one hole & ten feet away nothing... just how they follow the edges.
Yea I probably shoulda had the shack up But it was a calm morning then the wind 💨 fired up... I didn’t want to carry it all the way out there. lol This week the skidoo will be going so I’ll see what bite I can find.

Strap has its ups and downs. Was hot for perch & walleye early ice. Now the walleye bite slowed.

Yup every lake has its swings, usually when you hear or see a hot bite online it’s already over. Just the way it is.. but man do I like catching fish. Nothing beats it. 🎣

Yea wasn’t to bad, filled the frying pan for a nice meal. Probably my favourite fish to eat it’s my winter delicacy. Lol

In that wind, have to block it with your back & hand line. Other wise you don’t feel them.
