I was about to say and be annoyed by hearing these guys mixing up a galaxy and the authors impression of a universe. I remember hearing multiple times that the mangaka and animators didn’t know wat a universe actually looks like so they decided to draw them basically the same as a galaxy. So by the time the final final happened the mechs became so big they were treating universes as baseballs.

You know, I consider this series the antithesis to Evangelion and somewhat to getter robo, its more like gaining confidence in yourself, Evangelion had Shinji spiral into depression, Getter Robo had everyone spiral into insanity due to be getting overcome with Getter Rays, but Gurren Lagann has the characters spiral into confidence. If anything, Gurren Lagann is about gaining self esteem. Simon went from a simple digger to the guy who can save the universe from a bunch of shut ins, kind of like he was since he lived in an underground village and didn't expect it to be any different until he met his brother and Yuko. And if he didn't find the Lagann, he wouldn't have lived life, the excitement of seeing the world, even if it broke his heart in the end, he learned life was worth living due to all the happy moments he experienced, unlike the anti spirals who shut themselves away and don't really live life, they just destroy it and hide in their own pocket dimension, scared to experience life. Either that or they get free pizza delivery as supposed rulers of the universe and don't have anything else better to do. Does this make any sense to anyone because I'm not sure if I make sense to anyone else, but I guess I just have to have confidence that someone understands what I'm saying.
Well, like I said, I'm not sure if I'm making sense, (Spoilers) but at the end of manga for Getter Robo Go, the pilots basically fuse into Shin Getter Robo and go "Yeah, this feels nice, this weird energy that is slowly taking my essence into it, making me evolve into an energy being, slowly turning me into Mecha-Cthulhu, feels pretty nice". And then they merged Shin Getter Robo into a planet that created the most feared Getter Robo in all of existence. With the voice that makes galaxies quake in terror: CHANGE GETTAAAAA EMPEROR ONE! When I first watched TTGL I thought I was gonna hate it after Simon becomes Shinji. Thank goodness for that best scene in any anime ever when Simon's theme plays, it drilled its way up to my most favorite mecha anime

For anyone that doesn't know this, the author for Gurren Lagann and animators actually downplayed how massive these attacks are. Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann is the size of the entire universe. Super Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann is 58.2 Billion light years tall. If we use our own universe as a reference, its only 15 billion light years tall at maximum currently(it expands slowly overtime). This makes the Super version 3.8 times bigger than the universe or 3.8 universes tall. THEN, we have the Super version using the Super Giga Drill Break which is 180 times the size of the mecha which makes the drill bigger than 50 universes tall EASILY. Do you know how massive that is?.....If you don't, I want you to go look up a video of how tiny we are on our planet in comparison to the entire universe, then come back and see this. Granzenboma even managed to match that power which caused all universes(not just galaxies because that also got downplayed heavily) to be absorbed in both drills and cause a Big Bang even bigger than the original Big Bang or the Infinity Big Bang attack that Granzenboma used in a weaker form. This doesn't even include the massive amounts of hax abilities they have(can do anything the Infinity Gauntlet can do and more by A LOT). The only anime characters that would even be capable of beating Team Dai Guren would be Truth from FMA, The Creator(Umineko), Kami Tenchi or some other Omni level god(No, Zeno cannot beat them because he has no hax abilities and clearly a universal explosion or multiple isn't enough). This means that 99% of anime couldn't even come close to touching Gurren Lagann.
You guys really forgot about how big a part the music makes in the anime. The overall narrative of the anime is fed to the viewer from the lyrics of the music. Gurren Lagann was the first Mecha show I completed and I loved it all the way! That final fight was completely mind blowing, One of the best ever, especially the Super Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann's Super Tengen Toppa Giga Drill Break I think it's pronounced that way in Japanese

Trusted gundam There is, the genre of super robots and real robots is filled with so many mecha after all, the most well known mecha that could beat Super Tenga Toppa Gurren Lagannn is demonbane for a whole crap load of reasons STTGL would need some really bullshit plot armor reasons to survive and a nerfed demonbane. Though Gurren Lagannn fans tend to Denine the fact that GL isn't the strongest mecha ever nor biggest cause demonbane when in is elderly God demonbane form he's so large he would destroy universes just by moving.
Yeah I am more into the real robot genre than super robot. On that note of like most powerful mecha out there I would still kinda say it goes to Mazinger Zero after watching the explain vid on him. I mean come on how can you beat a guy that can go into the "real world" and erase things out of existence lol

This show is easily in my top 10 anime of all time, no doubt about that. And as a correction, when Granzeboma and STTGL each created their Giga Drill Breaks in the movie, those small dots around them were universes, not galaxies, as after STTGL debuted he was still growing massively in size.
But, what about the downsides of finishing off the anti-spiral? You mention about Nia being created by the Anti-Spiral, however with the anti-spiral no longer around, she soon too vanishes. My guess is, to keep spoilers out, however it is a good point, along with Simon retiring and allowing the younger generations to step up, just like the revolutions of the drill pushing forward.
The Spiral Nemesis is the result of an excessive amount of Spiral Energy in the universe. Simon alone can't create it but can definitely contribute a large amount to it.

The one issue I tend to have with these mechs is the size. Namely what we are told vs what we actually see. For example, we are told that the titular mecha is several millions light years big, yet from what we see in the show it is a couple of thousands at most. And further muddling things is that those things supposedly take place in a special universe with different rules. This becomes apparent when a tear is created and we can see the Earth. This taken into consideration when also comparing the Anti-Spiral home-world and we can tell that the mechs are far smaller, about the size of the Earth/Moon system, give or take. Still unreasonably huge by most metrics, but nowhere near as universe shattering as most assume.
Fun fact: Giga Drill Break is the intended translation, as said by TTGL's writers and voice actors. One of the few times subs actually mistranslate something, though this was because "Burēku (ブレーク)" ended up sounding like "Burēka (ブレーカ)".
He was Jesus. His death saved humanity, not immediately maybe, but it is his return from the dead to wake up Simon in the Anti-spiral labyrinth that allows spirals to finally triumph.

I used to think Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann will always be league above every other mechs in terms of strength.... But then I played SRWZ3 lol. The whole concept of Spiral Energy proves that any living being is capable of utilizing the Spiral Energy, meaning as long as you can draw, just about any mech can turn Tengen Toppa as so you desire lol.
No, not every living spiral being can just will any mech into existence, kamina for an example, had very little potential for spiral energy compared to simon, everyone has a limit, some may not have much but others like simon have basically no limit.
The ability to "raise the dead" was never confirmed, and I am inclined to believe the one charcter who asked Simon to use the "spiral energy" to bring back the fallen only asked Simon to do that thinking they had the power to do that, and Simon who is just a regular living human obviously doesnt have some super brain so he just responded charismaticaly with what he believed was the right thing to say/do without even knowing himself if he could raise the dead. Since what "Spiral Energy" actual is, the concept of life & evolution is constantly moving forward, like time..you can't reverse the effects of life...that's the *one thing that absolutely cant be done* unless one was God themself. They can obtain many many many God like abilities, like creating & destroying universes, or HECK even manipulating/controlling time can be done , but *NOT* control/manipulate Life ...as again, that's *not* how "Spiral Energy" works or can even be used as it would completely go against the very concept of "Spiral Energy". *BECAUSE:* "Spiral Energy" is just the energy used to represent the will to live ...it's literally the the energy that's produced from a living beings will to survive & struggle out of pure heart/spirit. In simpler terms it's just literally the concept of evolution/life manifested as energy. And the few who have the strongest passion for survival a.k.a. passion to live/survive, can actually manifest the concept of life/evolution into physical energy in amounts so concentrated that whatever their heart/spirit/emotions *(their desire I simpler words)* is focused on is effected by that overwhelming amount of emotion/desire/energy. Simon & Kamina just happen to find some advancedly scientifically created technology (mech) that was designed to actually harness that energy in its physical state, and thus, the first mech users called it "Spiral energy" ...and since simon has SOOOOOO much hope & unstoppable will to live, survive, and protect, that energy is literally converted into physical usable energy, hence why there is *literally NOTHING* that can beat any person who has an unbreakable spirit/heart. ...making them quite literally a mortal god in the universe of Gurren Laggan.

You know, I consider this series the antithesis to Evangelion and somewhat to getter robo, its more like gaining confidence in yourself, Evangelion had Shinji spiral into depression, Getter Robo had everyone spiral into insanity due to be getting overcome with Getter Rays, but Gurren Lagann has the characters spiral into confidence.
If anything, Gurren Lagann is about gaining self esteem. Simon went from a simple digger to the guy who can save the universe from a bunch of shut ins, kind of like he was since he lived in an underground village and didn't expect it to be any different until he met his brother and Yuko. And if he didn't find the Lagann, he wouldn't have lived life, the excitement of seeing the world, even if it broke his heart in the end, he learned life was worth living due to all the happy moments he experienced, unlike the anti spirals who shut themselves away and don't really live life, they just destroy it and hide in their own pocket dimension, scared to experience life. Either that or they get free pizza delivery as supposed rulers of the universe and don't have anything else better to do.
Does this make any sense to anyone because I'm not sure if I make sense to anyone else, but I guess I just have to have confidence that someone understands what I'm saying.
Well, like I said, I'm not sure if I'm making sense, (Spoilers) but at the end of manga for Getter Robo Go, the pilots basically fuse into Shin Getter Robo and go "Yeah, this feels nice, this weird energy that is slowly taking my essence into it, making me evolve into an energy being, slowly turning me into Mecha-Cthulhu, feels pretty nice". And then they merged Shin Getter Robo into a planet that created the most feared Getter Robo in all of existence. With the voice that makes galaxies quake in terror: CHANGE GETTAAAAA EMPEROR ONE! SWITCH ON(quote found on Getter Robo Tv tropes page).

Still, maybe the spiral nemesis was just a paranoid delusion made up by the anti-spirals to justify what they were doing. Wouldn't be the first time someone did that.
well thats not entirely true. He chooses not to use it because he doesnt want to show people to rely on spiral power. If he solves every problem with spiral power others will want that power as well. For anyone that doesn't know this, the author for Gurren Lagann and animators actually downplayed how massive these attacks are. Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann is the size of the entire universe. Super Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann is 58.2 Billion light years tall. If we use our own universe as a reference, its only 15 billion light years tall at maximum currently(it expands slowly overtime). This makes the Super version 3.8 times bigger than the universe or 3.8 universes tall. THEN, we have the Super version using the Super Giga Drill Break which is 180 times the size of the mecha which makes the drill bigger than 50 universes tall EASILY. Do you know how massive that is?.....If you don't, I want you to go look up a video of how tiny we are on our planet in comparison to the entire universe, then come back and see this. Granzenboma even managed to match that power which caused all universes(not just galaxies because that also got downplayed heavily) to be absorbed in both drills and cause a Big Bang even bigger than the original Big Bang or the Infinity Big Bang attack that Granzenboma used in a weaker form. This doesn't even include the massive amounts of hax abilities they have(can do anything the Infinity Gauntlet can do and more by A LOT). The only anime characters that would even be capable of beating Team Dai Guren would be Truth from FMA, The Creator(Umineko), Kami Tenchi or some other Omni level god(No, Zeno cannot beat them because he has no hax abilities and clearly a universal explosion or multiple isn't enough). This means that 99% of anime couldn't even come close to touching Gurren Lagann.
You guys really forgot about how big a part the music makes in the anime. The overall narrative of the anime is fed to the viewer from the lyrics of the music. Also thanks for not spoiling some stuff; respect that, and for posterity sake, 3:42 Gurren Lagann was a part of 4chan before /b/ died of cancer.

Trusted gundam There is, the genre of super robots and real robots is filled with so many mecha after all, the most well known mecha that could beat Super Tenga Toppa Gurren Lagannn is demonbane for a whole crap load of reasons STTGL would need some really bullshit plot armor reasons to survive and a nerfed demonbane. Though Gurren Lagannn fans tend to Denine the fact that GL isn't the strongest mecha ever nor biggest cause demonbane when in is elderly God demonbane form he's so large he would destroy universes just by moving.
Yeah I am more into the real robot genre than super robot. On that note of like most powerful mecha out there I would still kinda say it goes to Mazinger Zero after watching the explain vid on him. I mean come on how can you beat a guy that can go into the "real world" and erase things out of existence lol

This show is easily in my top 10 anime of all time, no doubt about that. And as a correction, when Granzeboma and STTGL each created their Giga Drill Breaks in the movie, those small dots around them were universes, not galaxies, as after STTGL debuted he was still growing massively in size.

But, what about the downsides of finishing off the anti-spiral? You mention about Nia being created by the Anti-Spiral, however with the anti-spiral no longer around, she soon too vanishes. My guess is, to keep spoilers out, however it is a good point, along with Simon retiring and allowing the younger generations to step up, just like the revolutions of the drill pushing forward.

if you didn't see gurren lagann, what are you doing with your life?
The one issue I tend to have with these mechs is the size. Namely what we are told vs what we actually see.
For example, we are told that the titular mecha is several millions light years big, yet from what we see in the show it is a couple of thousands at most. And further muddling things is that those things supposedly take place in a special universe with different rules. This becomes apparent when a tear is created and we can see the Earth. This taken into consideration when also comparing the Anti-Spiral home-world and we can tell that the mechs are far smaller, about the size of the Earth/Moon system, give or take. Still unreasonably huge by most metrics, but nowhere near as universe shattering as most assume.

But then I played SRWZ3 lol. The whole concept of Spiral Energy proves that any living being is capable of utilizing the Spiral Energy, meaning as long as you can draw, just about any mech can turn Tengen Toppa as so you desire lol.
No, not every living spiral being can just will any mech into existence, kamina for an example, had very little potential for spiral energy compared to simon, everyone has a limit, some may not have much but others like simon have basically no limit.

The ability to "raise the dead" was never confirmed, and I am inclined to believe the one charcter who asked Simon to use the "spiral energy" to bring back the fallen only asked Simon to do that thinking they had the power to do that, and Simon who is just a regular living human obviously doesnt have some super brain so he just responded charismaticaly with what he believed was the right thing to say/do without even knowing himself if he could raise the dead.
Since what "Spiral Energy" actual is, the concept of life & evolution is constantly moving forward, like time..you can't reverse the effects of life...that's the *one thing that absolutely cant be done* unless one was God themself. They can obtain many many many God like abilities, like creating & destroying universes, or HECK even manipulating/controlling time can be done , but *NOT* control/manipulate Life ...as again, that's *not* how "Spiral Energy" works or can even be used as it would completely go against the very concept of "Spiral Energy".
*BECAUSE:* "Spiral Energy" is just the energy used to represent the will to live ...it's literally the the energy that's produced from a living beings will to survive & struggle out of pure heart/spirit.
In simpler terms it's just literally the concept of evolution/life manifested as energy.
And the few who have the strongest passion for survival a.k.a. passion to live/survive, can actually manifest the concept of life/evolution into physical energy in amounts so concentrated that whatever their heart/spirit/emotions *(their desire I simpler words)* is focused on is effected by that overwhelming amount of emotion/desire/energy.
Simon & Kamina just happen to find some advancedly scientifically created technology (mech) that was designed to actually harness that energy in its physical state, and thus, the first mech users called it "Spiral energy" ...and since simon has SOOOOOO much hope & unstoppable will to live, survive, and protect, that energy is literally converted into physical usable energy, hence why there is *literally NOTHING* that can beat any person who has an unbreakable spirit/heart. ...making them quite literally a mortal god in the universe of Gurren Laggan.
