    I think your question of whether or not the movie is “any good” actually fits perfectly with the movie’s view on food: if you thoroughly enjoyed it, then who cares whether or not it’s considered “good” in terms of fancy analysis?
    Some movies are “gourmet” and some movies are “just a well-made cheeseburger.” If it gave you a happy experience, then no need to second-guess your taste. 🙂

      There's a movie called "Chef" that has a scene where he cooks a simple yet perfect toasted cheese sandwich.
      The whole cheeseburger making scene reminded me exactly of that scene including where it made me hungry for one even though I'd just eaten.

    “Student loans?”
    “No.”

    Literally the “stop, let him cook” meme personified.

      @areallyawsomename It's not a joke. It's a common phrase in many cultures. Meaning that you ordered or took more food than your appetite can handle. My parents used to say that to me all of the time when I was young to teach me not to put too much food on your plate.

  • @suncore598
    @suncore598 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    A delightfully twisted movie. Ralph Fiennes is terrifying and darkly funny as the Chef.
    I think, with the way the menu was laid out, Slowik was slowly breaking down the guests psychologically like he did with his staff. Pushing them to the point of accepting their deaths without a fight except for Margot.
    I wonder what happened to Slowik's wife and kid. Did they die? Did they leave him? Did he leave them?
    21:04-21:08 Nice one.

    The "student loans" thing was brilliant and hilarious. Not only because of just the blasé way of saying "I'm sorry, you're dying" but also because he was right. Going to Brown? And not having college loans at all? At her age? She was either born into wealth (and would thus be from the same wealth gap of his normal clientele) OR she did something to absolve her of the debts anyone else not born with a silver spoon or wealthy connections would otherwise be saddled with having gone to a private Ivy League university like Brown (making her yet another "eater" / "taker").

    • @GoldenQuill16
      @GoldenQuill16 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      On my second watch I noticed than near the beginning when you can overhear all the conversations at the different tables that she (Brown student) mentioned that her mother had got her a job at Sony and then later we hear her boss admit that he'd written a negative recommendation shows that even with a bad review from her current boss her parents have enough sway to het her a job at a prestigious company anyway.

    • @HuntingViolets

      With that said, I fuckin love movies and shows (The Bear for example) that show how intense and competitive it is to be a chef. And why would they *only* tell him, and none of the other guests? (I mean, the real reason is so they could have the reveal that he knew in advance, and never told Margot. And that scene works well as you watch it. It just is problematic the more you think of the logic of it.)

    I agree that this was a very enjoyable movie. Ralph Fiennes was the main selling point for me... and he did not disappoint (nor does he ever). Anya Taylor-Joy was also very good. But I'm suffering from a bit of Anya overload at this point. She's popping up in every movie or show I watch lately... and she's beginning to play the same "type". She might want to take a hiatus for a little while.
