Hannah’s ability too predict what’s gonna happen in a film is getting quite scary now. The film barely started and she already called out basically the whole plot twist 😂

@Unwoke649 She called out that he killed himself, and that he wrote the will to the nurse just minutes into the film. They were guesses, but ended up right. Happens a lot. She also guessed the plot twist of Shutter Island, many others too.

Well, technically the plot is given out pretty early, midway through the first act I'd say, then the suspense of the girl being found out carries it through until the real twist at the end: that she didn't do it and who really did...so Hannah didn't really call it this time🤷‍♂️

My favourite moment of the entire film - literally the first thing that Blanc does when he meets Marta? He looks down at her shoes. It's a super quick little glance, but it's there. They didn't miss a SINGLE detail in this movie, it's so good.

    • @raegorz

I also love that the dirt footstep that doesn't match Marta's shoe located on the ledge, you can see when she comes back, her foot goes over and doesn't step there. And when you see Ranson come back, he steps on the ledge. So small details in this movie that were done so well. I love this movie and it works so well on a repeat viewing.

I remembered what Harlan said about Ransom, “He plays life like it’s a game without consequences until you can no longer tell the difference between a stage prop and a real knife.” Brilliant foreshadowing!
when Marta threw up on Ransom that was actually baby food mixed with water. Knowing that makes it easier to watch.
The movie was an homage to Agatha Christie novels. Have you read Agatha Christie? Her works broke the rules of the mystery genre; she became known as The Queen of Crime. Her novels go from 1920-1970s.
Actress who played Marta gave a phenomenal performance! Glad they cut away to her reaction to the suicide; the look of horror on her face was outstanding!
Like Blanc said, Harlan’s demise was the result of “a tragedy of errors.” When he pointed out how Marta could visually spot the differences between the morphine and the correct medication, he said it so quickly. Needed subtitles for that.

I’m from Texas. Benoit Blanc’s accent is comical yet believable. One occasionally meets an American Southerner with pronounced drawls and slow, measured cadences like Blanc’s, but it would be someone with a memorable accent. Also, Southerners would be more likely than other Americans to have some quirky, home-spun expression like, “Oh, beans”, but I’ve never heard anyone say that in real life.

Having been in texas i met a lot of people who lived in rural texas who had some accents that sounded straight up wild and was like being on the set of a real life cowboy movie. I loved it. Met a girl with the stereotypical southern belle accent and it was just her voice she wasnt like forcing it. I am going to move to texas because how friendly everyone was and the cost of living impressed me. Everyone was super friendly, ask you how your day is going, help you out, open doors for you little things that just dont happen anymore.

This movie is so well written, it takes multiple views to catch everything.
If you watch careful, you’ll see Blanc look down at Marta’s shoes the first moment he meets her as she steps out onto the porch.
In one scene you see a row of brown bottles in Ransom’s house. Later, after the examiners office was firebombed, one is missing.
If you watch the shots of Marta and Ransom entering through the secret window, you see Marta step over the window frame, and Ransom steps on it.

And this movie is written and directed by the same guy (Rian Johnson) who wrote and directed The Last Jedi which a lot of people seem to not like at all. Rian also directed a handful of episodes of Breaking Bad including Ozymandias which is one of the most acclaimed episodes of television ever. Given his track record maybe The Last Jedi is better than people are giving it credit for??? Or most likely TLJ and the trilogy in general probably would have benefited from having just one vision for the three films instead of having too many chefs in the kitchen ya know?

What I love about the movie is Harlans line about Ransom.
There's so much of me in that kid. Confident. Stupid. I don't know... protected. Playing life like a game without consequences. Until you can't tell the difference between a stage prop... and a real knife."
It perfectly sums up the movie. Everyone of his descendants have different aspects of Harlan. Linda got the business intelligence. Walt got the love of books. But only one of them got his creativity, and thats Ransom. The entire time we are watching Harlan's plan unfold, meanwhile in the background, the one most similar to Harlan, is watching his own plan unfold. But the time theres the difference is the fact that Ransom cant tell a real knife from a fake one.

"They're not even bothered that their dad didn't love them, they're just worried about the money"
Oh Ash, he did love them, that's why he didn't leave it to them. As much as he knew the girl deserved it and would appreciate it much more, he knew they had gotten what they hadn't deserved all of their lives and didn't appreciate it. The love doesn't come and go with his possessions and wealth, love giving them what they need, not what they want or even deserve...how could a father leave them to continue on as they were living after he had seen what his wealth had made them become? To all fight over the estate and who gets what and resent each other over it so much that it tears them even more apart? They'll come together more than ever before, learn from it, grow character and be better people...at least that's what he hoped 🤷‍♂️

  • @anontay916

Daniel Craig has said that one of the inspirations for his accent was the historian, Shelby Foote. Foote is from Mississippi, but his accent isn’t really much like Benoit’s. You can find his interviews on TH-cam. I think most Southerners would say that Daniel Craig’s accent is pretty over the top. The director, Rian Johnson and Daniel Craig have both said that Benoit’s history should remain unknown, so there isn’t actually any info on the origin of the character.
As a southerner myself, I enjoyed the accent. Yes, it’s kind of over the top, but at the same time Blanc’s entire character from his suspenders to his linen bathing outfit in the second movie are so authentic to the character, you can’t help but feel that he’s doing something right. Really, really enjoyed this reaction. Maybe one of my faves you guys have done! Love from Texas!

You can also figure out who the killer is the second Ransom first appears too, less than halfway through the movie, just by paying attention. There's only one person in that house the dogs bark at, and they were barking in the middle of the night.
Same for the second movie, just notice a little detail in an early scene and you've found the killer.
The best mystery stories are the ones that reward the audience for paying attention and deducing along with the characters.

❤ this movie. If I was Marta, I would give each of the kids a couple of million, with the condition that they never ask for more. My only reason is that Harlan had written his will to give everything to Marta, but he didn't plan to die that night. He should have been around for a while longer before the will went into effect. Even though Harlan was cutting his family out of the money, they probably would have benefited financially for a bit longer while he was alive.

That might have been my initial idea as well, but the way they reacted to losing the inheritance, calling her names, assuming she fucked her way into the will, then threatening her while "promising" to take care of her, if she gave the money back.
I would have paid each one the fare of their voyage home, whether by train, taxi or plane or their own car, in which case I would pay for their gas.
And then told them to never contact me again and not come nearer than 50 miles to the estate.
And explaining to them that their petty and vicious behaviour caused this decision. That they could each have had an equal share, but that they blew it.

I don't think that the Thromby children NEED any help. Linda owns a successful business, she's doesn't need her father's money, she just wants it. Walt has probably been paid well over the years and owns a home and assets, he can get a position with another publishing house and live on what he has in the interim. Joanie is a popular influencer with a product line, she is broke because she is irresponsible and not because she lacks means. Meg is the only person who needs any help.

      @MarshaLove0723 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I know the deleted scenes *shouldn't* count, but once seen, it is hard to ignore them. Joni and Walt were more desperate for inheritance money than was implied in the released movie. Joni's company FLAM(?) was broke; her products were causing rashes. She had been keeping everything afloat with the money she was skimming from Harlan. Walt had gotten into some bad investments and was even skimming money from the publishing company. He owed money to some bad people and was actually shot in the leg as a warning - the reason for his cane.
While Linda may not need the money, Joni and Walt are in big financial trouble.

Liked Daniel Craig’s Southern accent better as ‘Joe Bang’ in “Logan Lucky (2017)” which would be a great heist film reaction for you two. Plot isn’t quite as twisty as this one but has a few of its own plus the character personalities including Craig’s are way over the top. Channing Tatum & Dwight Yoakam (the warden) are the only two actual Southerners in the cast but it’s a really funny movie. Great reaction on Knives Out you two!

His accent is a very old version of a southern Louisiana/Georgia maybe accent. I’m from the south and while it’s not an accurate accent commonly used today, it was SOO good, it’s one of Daniel Craig’s best performances.

I'm so happy you watched this movie. I saw it in theaters and then every time I talked to someone afterward that hadn't seen it, I made them watch it lol.
As for Daniel Craig's accent, he gets it right for the most part (like the sounds and pronunciation are there), but it's an exaggerated version, like Foghorn Leghorn. So I wouldn't believe he was southern just because of how comedic it is.

    • @deanahicks6744

    • @IggyIggyBoBiggy
      @IggyIggyBoBiggy ปีที่แล้ว

@deanahicks6744 Yeah, I assumed it was one that existed but personally not one I've heard very often, they probably based Foghorn off of *someone* lol. Regardless of the way I find the accent exaggerated, I still think he did a great job and it didn't take me out of the movie or anything. Still really love it.

If you're ever sitting around wondering what to watch with a new group of people, and not sure if a movie will tick everyone's box? KNIVES OUT.
The Prestige is another one I love for this reason. Draws people in and keeps them invested to the end. Good for all ages. You can watch these with a teenager or your grandma.

at the end when Ransom grabbed the fake knife he didnt know cuz like what Harlem said earlier with Marta "Ransom doesnt know the difference between a real knife and a fake one" and another reference thats from earlier that some people missed out on with Harlems daughter she says "Me and my father had a secret way of communicating with each other" and thats the same paper that she lights up at the end which is a "secret" letter this movie is truly amazing on a second watch through you really can catch on to the little hints throughout the movie that you dont the first time you watch it, truly a 10/10 masterpiece.

As an American, Benoit Blanc's accent in this film is a hilarious over the top southern stereotype. Nobody actually talks like that anymore so it's also really old fashioned. It doesn't match his appearance or personalitly at all which makes it extra funny that Daniel Craig plays it so seriously.
