Chances are that random driver probably didn't have bad intentions, and I don't want to discourage random acts of kindness... but i think picking up drunk strangers from a bar at 2 am is just asking for trouble. What do you think?

I completely understand the not trusting people who are too nice thing. I’m very uncomfortable if a person is too nice to me off rip, especially if I get weird vibes off of them. After a while you can tell if they’re genuinely nice or malicious to some extent, but in general I’m wary.

I used to drive Uber in the same general area. One night, I finish up and go to grab a beer at my favorite pub.
As I sit down, I see the bartender is having an issue with a customer who's obviously obliterated. He was trying to leave and she has his keys. She tells him she can't let him drive, and asks him to get an Uber.
This guy is so hammered that he doesn't know where his phone is to use the app, so I go over and say hi. After a few minutes, I tell the guy I'm an Uber driver and since he only lives a couple of miles away, I'll give him a ride for free.
I take the guy home and he acts like I donated a kidney. Tells me he realizes he shouldn't be driving and that it'll be a pain to go pick up his truck the next day, but he drives for work and a DUI would be bad news.
As I drop him off, he pulls out a wad of cash and peels off a $100 bill. I tell him it's not necessary but he basically gets out of my car and leaves it on the seat.
I drive back to the bar and have a few drinks. The bartender thanked me and picked up my tab, so I tipped her the hundred, since she was the real hero.
Months later, I end up picking up the same guy, didn't remember him at all. Somehow, he remembered me (surprised he remembers anything from that night) and thanks me again and tips me a $20.
    You just never know.

I think I would’ve driven to the guy’s house first, dropped him off and then driven the woman home. To me, it doesn’t matter whether it’s the man or woman saying “no”. I was at the doctor, about to leave, and I hear this lady (with her difference in abilities grandson) talking about how long they'd have to wait for the cab etc. I said "I'm heading out of town via highway xx, if that's the way you're going I'd gladly drop you on my way." She got very excited and accepted. As we were walking to my car I said "here, I'll show you my license and you can text my info to someone just so you have info of who you're riding with." She stops and says "what?" I repeat myself, then she starts pulling her grandson back into the building while saying "you know what, the cab won't be that long, I don't want to bother you. They were clearly upset with each other and this dude was extremely wasted and being a little aggressive. He ended up passing out at one point and accidentally groped my leg/reached up for my junk in a drunken stupor...probably thinking I was a girl. After I threw his hand off and he passed back out I turned back to her and whispered to ask if she was safe. Her demeanor completely changed and she reassuringly told me yes and thank you, but I felt like I needed to make sure that she was safe just in case this dude was some random douchebag. I would have been a bit relieved to have it not be my problem any more.. I once drove around tracking my rider on the app. She kept moving around quickly.. she called me and begged me to not stop trying to find her. Said she was in trouble.. as another female late at night it became scary.. she said her ex was chasing her and that he was crazy.. wanted to hurt her. So I kept driving and found her.. got her in my car and locked the doors.. and just as I looked forward there he was standing in front of the car.. he quickly moved to my door trying to get in.. I told him to get off my car and pulled away quickly.. he followed us.. I took her to her destination.. but she was scared to get out.. as he was sitting there waiting.. screaming at her and cussing.. I closed out the app and told her I didn't feel right dropping her off there. 😒 I asked her if there was any one that she could call that she felt safe with.. some one that could meet us some place public.. she said that she could call her dad.. he was 40 min. Away.. so we parked at a public location and waited.. she just kept thanking me for helping her.. told me the ex wanted to rape her and beat her.. as a mother of young girls myself.. I told her he would have to get through me first..

Clearly a play. Two dudes knew each other and knew both would end up at that woman’s house one way or another. Either the you would drive and the white car would follow or the dude pretending to be drunk would cause an issue and trick her into getting into the other car. Two things stood out to me:
    1) The dude rolls the window all the way down to throw the can out. He wouldn’t do this normally because it’s raining, his intention was to get your attention and cause you to slow down or stop to give his buddy time to catch-up.
    2) he identified the make of the car before seeing it “are you the white Mazda”.
The other driver was not random. The guys know each other without a doubt.

First time I ever flew into NYC (~25 yrs ago)... I was supposed to have a car pick me up... He's not there... I'm waiting - asking every guy standing outside of a black car if he's my driver. I'm in a hurry and there is a driver (not a cab - in the limo line) who says, "I can probably get you where you need to go..." Two seconds later I'm in the back seat marvelling at the skyline...
We go over a bridge, but it's obvious the driver isn't into small talk... Next thing I know we are pulling into the shipping yards/industrial area - he's driving slowly in between giant cargo containers... Turn after turn - hopelessly lost and no one around. It suddenly hits me that I'm about to get jumped... He's got my suitcase in the trunk... That's probably gone. I'm thinking he's gonna have some buddies pop out... I have no idea who he is. There are no markings anywhere... No commercial numbers or anything... I had jumped in the back of a regular black passenger vehicle. Fight or flight is kicking in as he coasts to stop in the middle of nowhere...
He can see I'm ready to make a run for it, or maybe try to jack him in the jaw -and he turns around a gives me a creepy smile... He says, "hey - just making a point... Don't you EVER get in somebody's fu%#ing car out here if you don't know who they are... Got it?"
I'm waiting for a gun... Some dudes coming at me from the side... He just stares at me. Then he chuckles, "bet you'll think next time, huh? Now what's that address?"
And he turns around and starts driving slowly away... It actually took me a few minutes to realize I WASN'T getting jumped... Made for an awkward ride - how much do you tip for that? Good advice at the time. Won't forget it.

Yes... sometimes people will offer to give a random drunk person a ride home... especially when you are concerned about them trying to drive themselves home!
I met a friend for a beer at a local bar some years back. A couple of wasted women there were friendly and my friend was interested in one of them and they struck up a conversation. One thing led to another and before long it was like we were all four on a double blind date. I was not at all interested and was kind of miffed at my buddy trying to get laid when I hadn't seen him in a couple of years. He had just come home from overseas service... and by the way, he was married at this time!!! Yikes! So needless to say, I thought the whole thing rather odd and kind of a bullshit thing to do. I was the single guy (at the time) just wanting to see my buddy who I hadn't seen in nearly 2 years, and he's trying to get laid by a total stranger, while her friend came on to me.
Well this gal and him ended up leaving together. Apparently she had come to the bar in her friends car (the friend who was now hitting on me and drunk!). He, being such a "saint", offered to take her home (yeah, he got some, which is just sad to me).
So I finish my second beer and leave the place only to have her friend follow me out, car keys in her hand as she is clearly buzzed beyond all safe driving conditions. I watch her as she hits the lock button several times on the remote and then yank on the locked car door. Then she hit the panic button and it took her about 20 seconds to turn it off.
So I had to do something. I told her she was too wasted to drive and offered to call her a cab. She agreed she shouldn't drive but she was NOT going to wait on a taxi - no way, no how. So I offered to take her home. She was very willing, to say the least. She said her apartment was just a few miles from the bar (which surprisingly it was). She came on to me in my car, asking inappropriate questions and just generally doing everything but asking me to F her.
I pulled up to her building and she, very very slowly, got out of the car and handed me a piece of paper. It was her phone number she had jotted down... with only 6 digits! LOL!
That was over 20 years ago.... I'm not so sure I would be as nice today, considering how some people will lie and play the "victim".

One night while I was in college, I had come out of a movie and dinner with a friend past 1 o’clock in the morning, and as I was driving through the mall parking lot, I saw two teens sitting on a bench by one of the entrances to the mall. The mall had closed at 10 o’clock. I parked my car and asked them what they were doing. They said they were waiting for the girl’s sister to pick them up, but she was supposed to be there before the mall had closed. I offered them my cellphone to call someone. The only person they could call was the sister. She called, and over the call, I could hear that the sister was at a club or party, and she yelled at her sister to leave her alone and find another way home. I asked if they had anyone else they could call. They said they didn’t, so I ended up taking them home. I took the girl home first, then I took the boy home. They were very appreciative, but I told them that they shouldn’t strand themselves in the future. In the end, I was mostly in disbelief of the apathy the older sister showed toward her younger sister.

Obviously you didn't have to at all, it just would have been the good thing to do, rather than to let it just be someone else's problem. Everyone makes mistakes in the heat of the moment though, so don't worry that not doing the right thing one time would make you a bad person; It's our past experiences and choices that make us who we are today. Since your current choices make your past, just keep that in mind to enable you to be the you that you wish you were. :) Peace

A few years ago a stranger offered me a ride home, in retrospect I should’ve said no, but it was late I was tired and didn’t feel like walking 30 minutes home so I accepted, the person was a lady in her 30’s possibly and she said she saw me around before and wanted to give me a ride. Luckily I didn’t let her actually drop me off right at my house just a couple blocks away. But only now do no realize how sketchy and potentially dangerous that was.

😂how big did your eyes get when the Samaritan told them to just move his kid seat😂 And I'm with you, bit Sus to just randomly offer people a lift (when your by yourself). You don't know what they're capable of. But then he also tried to seperate them. Hmm I wondering which one he would have chosen to take.

Not sure I would do this today, but 5yrs ago I gave a random stranger a ride home from a bar only becuase he was a fellow Soldier and his buddies were nowhere to be found. Not saying service members aren’t dangerous, but being in the service myself I knew the trouble he could have gotten into if he got pulled over for drinking and driving.

For those saying drop the guy off first, how do you think he'll get the address when neither party would cooperate? She insisted on being dropped home first and the other guy didn't want to be dropped off home. You can only try to help someone so much.
