    Hi
This Mercedes ML 6.3 AMG 2006, came to me with a few issues... tail lights and remote not working, boot not opening etc...
Was easy to suspect of a problem with the rear SAM, but much more difficult to repair it....
Follow me on this video to see what was wrong and how I have repaired it.

Thanks for this, I just rescued my SAM with the help of this video, tail lights stayed on after pressing the brake pads, scan showed 20 error codes, so I pulled the SAM and it was full of water, the previous owner had wrapped the SAM with a plastic bag which made it even worse as the bag was filled with water. Water ingress was from the vent at the rear right side facing the bumper (apparently a known and recall issue), So right now I have a temp fix, had to pierce a hole in a rubber plug below the SAM unit, till I have time to drop the bumper and fix it properly, so should have no water in there for now as the water drains out just above the rear muffler to the ground, so will sort that out to avoid rust issues.........thanks again LM Auto Repairs!

A plastic bag can literally be a death sentence for your SAM especially after too much time has passed. It's incredible what some people try without completely thinking things through. Good luck in the future.

After cleaning the rear SAM do you coat it with any dielectric grease or anything to prevent future corrosion ? Wish we could all find a man like this to take the time and initiative to actually repair a car rather than just push us into buying an expensive replacement. Well done sir!

The owner of the car just told me that he called Mercedes and asked about their price for the repair, just out of curiosity. They asked for the chassis number and called him back 30 min later. They would have charged 600 EUR for a new SAM, plus 300 EUR for the exchange, plus taxes.
I do not want to bash Mercedes here. I understand that they have to charge as high as they do. I just hope they spend enough of that money in the R+D department and not give it to share holders only.

@@Spacecraft_Repair The water comes in through the gaskets of the rear lights. You can buy a set of new modified gaskets from Mercedes for the rear lights (I don't recall if this was already mentioned in the video above, sorry).
Apparently this solved the issue with the rain water leaking into this part of the chassis. Part numbers are: A1648261691

Did You cover both sides of this SAM PCB plate (same with front SAM) with poliurethane lack? Did You recover proper sealing of 2 blank caps rear left and right on top of D pillar (under outside plastic cover)? That causes this problem with humidity both sides in trunk under left and right panel lining and damages SAM because through this caps each ML has water leak to inside.

Hi, I have a 2008 Mercedes R-350 4matic and I'm having problems with my tailgate. Opens with remote, door button & tailgate handle, but doesn't close from none of this options not even from tailgate button. When I pressed any of this doesn't do nothing at all, no noise, or anything to let me know that its sending the signal. It's like if its death. The only thing it does it's that the tailgate button light its on.
The last time My tailgate stopped working, I pressed the close tailgate button, but door only closed halfway, then it open by itself all the way (like if there was sensing something on the way), then I tried to close it again, and it will come back to open position, but not all the way. So I keep pressing it a couple of times, I pressed one time, then I hold the button to see if would open all the way, then I keep pressing it a couple of times. This happens like 3 times, then it stopped. What I don't get it's why opens, but doesn't close.
I checked the tailgate lift control unit module inside board but looks like new. Then I also checked the rear sam board and looks like new too.
Do you think I unprogrammed it, and now needs to be reprogram?
Can you please help me to troubleshoot. Thank you.

ASE CERT MASTER TECH! Tne module is complex and integrated, once damaged it best to just replace it, these fixes are temporary, and well fail again possibly damaging other components! No one has time for the back and forth thing, Life is too short, do it rite and be done with it!

    • @LMAutoRepairs
      @LMAutoRepairs  3 ปีที่แล้ว

For someone used to just replace part, your advice makes sense...
Let me let you know, that, this repair was done nearly 3 years ago, and still going...
I think the the "temporarily" term doesn't really apply here...
Also I do believe that always worth to try yo repair before replace... unless the damage is really bad...
Anyway, thank you for watching and for your comment!

Hi, Thank you very much for this video. I've removed my rear SAM from a 2007 ML320CDI but have been unable to clean underneath the plastic towers. How did you remove them? I tried following the links in your description but they take you to an ebay page that says the item is sold out. If using a heat gun does that mean that they are melted in place with those black plastic pins that stick through the back of the board? If that is the case, how do you reattach once you've melted them off? What % alcohol did you use? I used CRC QD Electronics Cleaner and it's been less than perfect at removing everything.

What is it with Mercedes? Every Mercedes ever made has a defect that causes the electronics to get wet and corrode whenever it rains. I've had a couple Mercedes and each one has had to have the electronics replaced at a cost of many thousands of dollars. All it take is a bit of rain and the water wicks into the circuit boards and causes damage. I suppose Mercedes never heard of silicon seal or waterproofing?

Thanks for sharing a great video. I got 2008 E350, the fuel gauge shows empty all the time even the tank is full. I checked both sending sensors in the gas tank, both is good. Did you find the cause of the leak? I did the same thing to my GL several years back. Cleaned, reflowed, and reassembled. I did replace the taillight gasket at that time, but I did not see any signs of water intrusion. I am wondering if there is another source of water intrusion I have not found. I reached into the rear well where the sam is located, and it felt damp. I don't know where the water is coming from. I ended up sealing up the whole Sam unit into a gallon zip lock bag for peace of mind.

Everything works as it should now, but I've noticed that the SAM motherboard made a buzzing sound (just right after it was connected) for couple seconds and then stopped and never reoccurred. Hello Imsvvavr, a lot of skills to repair this board ! Could you mention what tools did you use to remove the plaugs ? Thanks

The tools I have a essentially a temperature controlled soldering iron, a hot air gun, and a desoldering station...
The desoldering station is definitely the most helpful for this job...

    Hi,
    I have a 2007 ML AMG 63.
Problem is the front headlights indicator or turn signal lamps is not working. All other turn signals on the car work. When I put the left turn signal the fog lamp in the bumber flashes but the turn signal in the headlamp is not. same with the right hand side.
error code is P1614, Control module has in internal error.
    906F headlamp
906E left daytime running lamp short to ground
906D left daytime running lamp discontinuity in line
9019 left/right washer nozzle or feed line short circuit
9012 right turn signal E2 e5 lamp short circuit to ground
9011 left turn signal E1 e5 lamp short circuit to ground
    9008 headlamp
900A left fog lamp faulty or lead open short circuit
    9070 headlamp
These are all the error codes.
Now I know the right headlight is faulty.
code 9070,906F,9008, is the headlamp error codes.
Now what gets me is that sometime they work. then sometime left works only and sometime right.
AND all the other lights are working fine, even the fog lamps. when the turn signal works fine the fog lamps do not flash. they are off.
I tested the ground wires for continuity and seems fine. Checked all plugs and wires, cleaned them up.
I opened the front sam loacated under the driver seat next to battery, ( south Africa) and visually no problem.
    Any advise please

In that case more than check the ground for continuity, load the circuit.... that should more definetly tell you if the ground is good or not...
      Hope that helps.

@@LMAutoRepairs hi just an update. The front Sam was not the issue. But when we took a wire from the battery ground, wile everything was connected, and put it on the turn signal ground it started working. Took the wire off and it has not stopped working sins. All problems gone. Can you explain this. Like it was charged or something.

      🤔
That's strange... it shows however that was a lack of ground... so if comes back you already know...

It sounds like a ground issue... check them and clean if necessary...

I have 2008 ml63 Mercedes, sometimes my key don't read, now I have no tailgate.. Tailgate does not go up and down anymore. I notice that the lights on the tailgate button has no lights.. Do you think it is the rear Sam?

Can you tell how you got the circuit board out. Because I don't know how to basically take the board off. The board is exposed but I don't want you breaking.

What layers are you referring to?

@@LMAutoRepairs in the side where are all silver connectors, there are at least 4 layers of plastic. That area is my best guess to find how to open the cover and reach the board.
I decided to buy another SAM but now, in half way, i want to see the proper way...hehe

I have this same issue going on right now. If we replace the motherboard do you have to have the vehicle reprogrammed to the new panel?

      Hi
      Most likely...
For the most part everything should work...
But depending on the options and features, might be stuff that will need coding to the specifics of your car...
