We review the Huawei Ascend G7, a well-priced smartphone loaded up with mid-range specs and an entry-level price tag. Despite costing just £149, inside you'll find a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor with a 720p display and a metal body - awesome value.
To say we're impressed is an understatement - the Huawei Ascend G7 seems to tick all the boxes on paper at least. To find out how it copes a week into use, check out our review.
I have this phone, and I have to put one comment. The battery life. I love this phone, but the battery life is the feature that I like the most. I don't know what is the definition of light or heavy user, but once i got to use it for straight 3 and a half days. Exactly 84 hours. It was light usage - some phone calls a day, some texting, viber textig, reading emails, and some minimal browsing. Also, I watched a full length 90 mins movie with speakers on. It was not heavy usage, but it was just what i needed for those days. Without that movie, I assume it would last for straight 4 days. Which, for 5,5 inch display phone, is freaking AMAZING! In my opinion the best feature of this phone! And, at the end - the best phone there is, for this price!
Great review Basil! Certainly the best on this phone so far IMO. Also interested in the lower price point, as most sellers seem to be offering at around the £200 mark (which is still a bargain!). Cheers :)

Great review. Liked the quick precise and clear way you got all the important info across, did not feel I had to go and look anywhere else for more info.
That clickable stuff to navigate through the video is amazing! You could make it horizontal and put on the bottom of the page with colors and whatnot and could be quite useful

Got a 2 year contract and had to chose btw the G7 and 3 old samsungs. Needless to say i am ecstatic with this phone. I had never heard of Huawei but for the price the Huawei is a gamechanger.
I just bought this phone in calgary, Alberta, canada if you wanted to hear. Yes it is an amzing phone
I've bought the silver & black one, and it is a gorgeous phone, having upgraded from the g6 I was a little surprised that it didn't operate as well as the g6.
The screen is better & feels almost frictionless, also, you have to have really grubby fingers to leave print marks.
The keyboard is inferior to the g6 keyboard except in 2 respects, swipe & voice to txt both work brilliantly.
I'm really impressed with the camera @ 13 mega pix, no image stabiliser but clear pics have amazing detail.
overall I'm well impressed, a definite winner.

I bought this phone while was in Shanghai, China last week great phone. As the Ascend mate 7 was hard to get hold off or pricey

In the review you used the term "exposure compensation" to really mean how well the camera handles contrast transitions. (Google EC "video" for a decent explanation)). Some of the criticisms I read and watched are almost bogus, for example you can, colour temperature speaking, warm up or down (more yellow to more bright white on the blue side) the image appearance, same with the camera. If whatever is criticized is adjustable within the phone, then its not really a good criticism unless the adjustment isn't permanent or easy to find).
When I first read some reviews, the reviewer dwelt on the 700 pixel density versus 267 of this phone. So I got paranoid about the image quality on the screen. On a lark I dug up an old review of my HTC One S, I loved the image quality on it and discovered it had less pixel density than the Ascend G7. I think reviewers will dwell on specs that may not be that important and not use the product in real life. I looked about 100 hundred user reviews of G7 expecting the screen image to be trashed, not a peep about it.
I am a serious amateur photographer and I am used to gear reviews where the slight difference between camera or lens functions is criticized to the 9th degree, yet in real life the minuscule difference isn't noticeable at all.
I now own the phone and overall I find your review one of the more accurate out their for the H. Ascend G7. I still in the amazed phase of how long the battery is good for after my old phone died after 5 hours.
there is also mate 7 and p7 all huawei line up.
But yeah cannt wait their this years line up

This phone has really decent specs for the price, but for me the issue with Huawei phones is that they don't seem to get the latest Android OS. That's a real deal breaker for me. Also this phone has competition from Asus Zenfone 2, Alcatel One Touch Idol 3.
Now Vodafone have produced the Smart Ultra 6 - a phone which has a similar spec to the Huawei, but with Lollipop 5.0.2...and for £125. I'm on Vodafone, so that's a no brainer for me.
Can someone please tell me if I buy this phone will I be able to wirelessly connect it to my Samsung smart TV? At the minute I have a Google Nexus 5 but I am tempted by the Huawei G7 , the only thing stopping me is I'm worried I won't have the option of wirelessly connecting my phone to the TV. I use this feature on my current phone almost daily. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

i bought one from wind mobile .$50 plus $ 5 per month for 24 months it is in my opinion the best phone for the money many pluse´s and a tiny green flashing light to let me know if its ok .great phone .undervalued.

I read this phone comes with android 4.4 kitkat OS but an upgrade to 6.0 marshmallow was planned, do you know if this is true? Or if we buy this phone are we stuck with an outdated OS? (and if so, will this be such a bad thing?)
Stable release of 5.1.1 is available now. I'm using it and it's definitely better and faster.
(Any info on a future Lollipop OS update would also be appreciated. Thanks again!)

How durable is this phone and what would be the best case for it?
The phone is alright in durability. The screen is pretty good, but the front frame of the phone is really sensitive and the back metal of the phone is easily scratched. The phone comes with a free plastic case for the extra protection. In my opinion, the case does well on scratches but after taking it on and off a few times the plastic gets weaker then it snaps. But with a brilliant phone that comes with an remarkable and affordable price, there's bound to be some flaws.
Gwinner Leopardas I had the same problem. After it came to me, I wanted to show its metal back to my friends but I had to take on and off its case. After a few times, it got weaker and it moves a bit BUT it doesnt get off the phone yet

With regards to price, this review is a little misleading. I've never seen this phone, anywhere, priced at £149. The cheapest I've seen it, is £190; but it is regularly priced between £199 and £250.
