But other than that, I do believe he’s genuinely happy for Jonas and to be doing the dance with him again. These two are exceptional in every way. The reason why the 3km rule was enforced was because he got a wet surface dispensation on the last descent within the 3km, and it was indeed wet and also looked like the reason Roglic slipped. It had nothing to do with the stage itself. I'm not a Roglic fan, but I think it was reasonable .That's my take.
    Edit: Just saw the Rolf Aldag interview where he said that it was announced on the race radio that they should remember that today there was a 3km rule with a one second [delay?] as opposed to the 3 seconds.
    Surely it was because of the wet slippery conditions on the descent? But anyway, so it was announced to the team directors before the crash, not something they made up on the spot. Either way, I'm okay with it anyways.

      Wet surface dispensation... just the name is odd. Basically this means that if you're out of steam on the last 3 km and there's a climb to the finish line left where you could lose serious time, you can just lie down in a slow corner and badabing you don't lose time from that point. That's crazy. How can they decide what would have happened on the last climb?😧

      @@clauso72basically you are suggesting that he fell on purpose because he would have lost even more time on that last 500 meters of soft uphill. Which is nuts. Roglic still has an aching colllarbone from his Dauphine crash. He certainly does not want any new trouble in that area, and even a mild crash is still something that I personally would like to avoid at all costs, especially with ten more days of brutal riding ahead of me.

      @gundisrambo9054 18 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      They did not enforce it after the race. I was announced before the stage and also during the stage. The reason is very likely that they realized how much crash potential a mossy, slippy wet road has. They cleaned the road of the moss, but according to Fabian Wegmann, there was still plenty of it left and he did not like the road conditions at all. If the race had not been this fast, there might have been a group of thirty or forty riders going down there, which would have been extremely dangerous given the conditions.

    1) Given that Tadej had 2 strong UAEs (Yates and Almeida) in the group and no one else had anyone, it seems the better strategy would have been to drill the downhill and wait until the next climb (Col De Pertus) for the patented explosion. If done right, his teammates could even vacuum up all the bonuses
    2) Normal rules are that feeding is prohibited in the last 20 km. So, the last feed would have been about 6km before the top of the Col de Pertus. The teams should have had soigneurs at the top of Cat 1 to hand off food if needed.

    Pogacar learned two important things from his attack that made it worthwhile. 1) He's tested Vingegaard and now knows exactly what kind of shape he is in, which might change his strategy going forward, 2) He knows he has a team that can defend his position in the high mountains if Vingegaard decides to attack. It's the team issue that makes me question whether Vingegaard is still the favourite I made him at the start.

      Agree - the outcome of the stage suggests TP and UAE got it wrong but they had to test JV at some point and finding out just how strong he is was best done early rather than late. They gained a whole heap of knowledge/insight on that stage. The big question is whether they are smart enough with the knowledge they now have. The two (TP and JV) look well matched but the UAE team does look stronger and TP has a useful lead. I would put TP as favourite for those reasons and it will take something v impressive from JV - especially if TP races a bit smarter from now on. At least it looks interesting and exciting rather than the snooze fest procession that the Giro GC was.

    In the words of some guy named Chris Horner, Tadej was "a Snickers and a coke" away from a 1 minute win on the stage. Tadej defeated himself today, Roglic overestimated his form today and pulled for Jonas unknowingly at the time. Tadej made a familiar mistake and Jonas had pretty good form, a little more brain and a bit of fortune. As for the sprint, I could see with 800 meters to go that Jonas was in a bigger gear and Tadej was spinning too fast to get his much needed burst of top end speed. Tadej had this day won and snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.

Glad Primož got back a 30 seconds credit but I cannot see where he will find 2 mins on other guys other than chase 3rd spot. They know, they will need more time on Jonas b4 week 3, especially the last 3 stages. Coz if Jonas keeps improving, he may very well take a lot more than a couple of minutes there. And todays stage was perfect for Tadej, he had to try. Tho I agree, it was badly executed. Considering Jonas is still not 100%, they shouldve been able to bank some time on him today.
      Jonas actually said after Galibier, that he and Visma had expected him to be 2 minutes behind at that point. So clearly they expect to be able to take more than that in the last week. And we've known, since the route was announced, that week 3 is perfect for Jonas, and he just had to limit any time loss in the first 2 weeks.
      Jonas is clearly still not quite there, but hes just as clearly improving every day. This stage, San Luca, Galibier and the first TT were Tadej's best stages to take time on Jonas, even b4 Jonas crashed in Tour of Basque.
      I would say, after today Jonas has moved ahead of Tadej as favorite to win the Tour. As long as he can keep improving. And yeah, UAE really needs to rethink their tactics. But they made the possibly fatal mistake of not bringing Majka and Bjerg and instead bring 4 protected riders. The other 3 have already lost several minutes, but theyre just not the power house, that Bjerg is, and theyre not the very smart and strong road captain and mountain lieutenant, that Majka is. And with the much weakened team, Visma had to bring, they really had the chance to dominate, much more than they have so far.
