    This is hands down one of the most underrated hvacr channels on TH-cam, I used this channel to understand the refrigeration cycle back when I was in school.

    Thank you for posting this video! My AC stopped working when my husband took it outside to clean it and my kids and I have been dying for the past 5 days in this Florida heat. We assumed the circuit board shorted somewhere when I tried to turn it back on because it may of been wet still. Well I got tired of being hot so I started Googling and came across your video which seemed to be close to the AC I had. My husband didn't know which wires were what so I went on a mission to figure it out myself and you made it so easy to understand and I was able to go to my husband and tell him wire these together then these and you should be good to go. He did and it worked! I had to joke with him and said alright now mister you got to give me credit, a woman figured it out for a change, not you. He said alright, I'll give you that, jokingly. But seriously thank you so much. This video saved me and my kids from another day of being stuck in the Florida heat. You are the best.

    The "generator" was a high voltage power supply for air ionizing. The single red wire you called a thermistor was actually a carbon fiber "brush" emitter. It lets out negative ions to help purify air. Good job on bypassing the bad board...you could always add a simple thermostat into it to make it "automatic" again.

    What a coincidence, i had the same brand (frigidaire) and less than a year nothing was working, it wouldn't start ...so i called frigidaire and after back and forth, they gave me a frigidaire gift card for 289 or so , so i left it in my garage bc i didn't want to throw it away , after a year or so , i decided to plug it in and see , well guess what it started to run , i was so happy, idk what could have happened but it was in my garage for over a year , now it is laying down on a table in garage and every once in a while i crank it up .
    I didn't know how to wire it like you, but if it stopped i will go back and watch your video and probably try to bypass....and fix it
    Tks for all your videos

      I appreciate the video .

    I did a similar thing many many years ago to the crappy portable AC i have in my shed. Had all this digital control stuff which died after couple of years. I ripped it all out and just put a contactor in its place. Then i just use a cheap thermostat to control it. It actually works better than it originally did as i could put the thermostat on the other side of the room so it gets a much better temp reading for the whole room

      That's exactly what I'm trying to do. My ac cool great but is getting water in the circuit board and starts going Bo kers after a few minutes of use and often just shuts off randomly. How can you tell what wires to connect to the thermostat?

  • @GannDolph
    @GannDolph 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Nice hotwire job! That black box that looked like a capacitor is probably an ionizer/ozone generator , for helping keep the unit free of mold etc.
    You should put all the controls you take out in a box and keep them. One day you may have the time and/or skills to fix 'em!

      If the temperature is hot enough it will not freeze up. The fan should run 24/7, just the compressor needs an on/off switch.

    My Kenmore has the same exact build! Stopped working after a teardown washdown. I used electrical cleaner on the control board, that worked for a day, then it acted up again. The thermostat readout started to act crazy, then stopped showing; at that point, the whole control panel was not effective. The fan would operate, but not the compressor.Will check the other controls or hot-wire like you did.

    What I want to know is how to rig up a home thermostat. This was very helpful but there's no way for it to turn off other than to u plug it so it'll just keep on cooling until it's as cold as it can get. I'm assuming it'll need a relay and the relay will need a power supply. Maybe 2 relays if you want to keep the fan running all the time or have it shut off when the compressor does

  • @wesleyp3024
    @wesleyp3024 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    does that defeat the purpose of the capacitor? if its not charged, its just starting on line power right? maybe it even makes the surge power on start even greater because its also charging the capacitor while also trying to start the compressor?

    I'd like to see you wire in a Temperature controller. I've seen others wire power directly to the compressor and then plug the compressor into a Temperature controller. This was a great video but would like to see a little more precise bypassing of the controls. Specifically, I want to bypass the thermistor and run a temperature controller so that you can use AC to go way lower than its normally allowed

I have 2 relays, one goes to G for fan to my fan and the other to compressor from y1 to thermostat and works great, how I'm getting main power is from my hydronic boiler system..
