Glad to see you are still making videos Jay! I finally got my EPA 608 certification after taking a HVAC class at the community college. The course was dirt cheap compared to all of the A/C equipment I bought to service my own. If I can keep my units going, or make sure a new one is installed (& charged) correctly then it is well worth it!
Thank you and congratulations on getting your EPA certification!! Now that you can handle refrigerant, you should be able to tackle just about any AC repair! I support your decision and hope your unit lasts another 30 years!
Thanks Jay for another informative video! Love your tutorials! Capacitors are definitely curious components, sometime they will work forever and other times they expand and die. They always seem to be the weak link in the system on any A/C unit.
You bet, glad you like the videos! And yes! I've seen capacitors last over 40 years and some only 2 weeks. 😄 Even the "best brands" can fail fast and cheap brands can last long. Kind of random really. 🤷♂️
I offer you respect and gratitude for the information you provide on this useful channel, and I thank you very, very much with deep appreciation for you and your information.❤❤❤
Hello 👋 🫂 good buddy Jay 👋 it's good to see you today buddy 👍. I'm visiting my brother today and his window unit isn't wanting to kick on the compressor and buddy this video is perfect timing 👍 I'm going to take his unit out and take it home and fix it now because you just learned me some very valuable information. Luckily I have some ol scrap units at home I can use for parts..I hope you all are doing well 😊 I'm doing pretty good for a ol dude ..lol. tell everyone I said hello 👋 🙂 and give them a big old fashioned hug 🫂 for me please 🙏 ❤❤❤❤much love to you all.
Aloha David!! Glad to hear that the video was timely! Hopefully it's just the capacitor that is bad on your brother's A/C. (easy fix) Good that you are doing well too! I am thinking the heat wave finally died down a bit? Fall season should be great this year! I'll pass on the greetings, the love, and the hugs! Thank you! 🙂 Sending love back from Hawaii, I appreciate you stopping by for the new video, keep feeling great, have a wonderful weekend, and God bless you and yours!!
I watched an older video where you installed a hard start kit and you were surprised that it didn’t make a difference. The same thing happened to me, can you think of a reason why?
How about one that runs for awhile and cools, then turns off, then cools, rinse and repeat. This is for a through the wall unit. As well, is there temperature cut off for these, when it gets to hot to run. Having this issue now during a heat wave, where it short cycles
@@SaiyantNick To do that would mean to uninstall it from the wall correct? Because its in a condo on an upper floor, so I cant remove it and reinstall it
@virgil3241 Do you own the condo or rent it? I wonder if the maintenance guys occasionally clean them from the outside. I think I know the kind of unit you have and cleaning them is very inconvenient so probably not something you'd want to do yourself.
@@WordofAdviceTV My daughter owns it, so Im trying to help her. originally it was a window ac unit in the sleeve, which why it was short cycling due to lack of ventilation. We bought a correct unit for the sleeve, but now this year it short cycles. Last year it did not. So we are on the hook for whatever cleaning can be done. Besides of course cleaning the filter weekly, which she does, even the manufacturer said the only cleaning you do it wiping the cabinet, which is useless. Its on a ground floor so can access the unit at least. Could it be as simple as taking the back venting grate off the metal sleeve and blowing the area out with compressed air or the like?
Hi there . I live in Greece and discovered your channel ,and i have being watching your videos to find the problem with my A.C. but i didnt so i would like to ask your opinion to tell me the possible reasons for the problem . So my A.C. when i turn it on it burns the fuse . But when i removed the capasitor and started the A.C. ,it worked without burning the fuse . So i thought it was the capasitor and i changed it but again it burns the fuse .My suspicions go to the compessor and/or the electronical circuit board of the A.C. outside .What do you think ?
I don't have any statistical observations to refute this idea but perhaps so. The compressor relay can also be a problem and my favorite is the printed control circuits on todays units, the incorporate resistors, transistors, diodes, etc that can and very often do go bad. Chinese origin of all these components including the start and run capacitors means a high percentage of early failure. Electronics out of China is a real gamble. Best bet for the homeowner is to have one of the small units, 5000-9000btu capacity in back up to install if you do have a breakdown because repairing the problem is going be considerable in comparison to the cost of a new unit.
I can only agree. With older units, the capacitor was the most common problem but with the new stuff it can be a whole bouquet of different possibilities. Thank you for pointing that out.
I have a midea portable, and thought the compressor was broken, but i opened up to find the compressor terminal was disconnected from the capacitor, and now the compressor boots up and cools my room as it should of, funny times lol.
The other simple repair you can make is replace the fan motor, that has a shaft that drives both fans for the evaporator and condenser. but I must admit you will find parts on these units hard to find and expensive, so if the unit has any age just buy a new one.
So I have a 1.5 year old midea and it’s just circulating the air no compression is on . Is it possible the compressor is already bad within a year and a half? I do run it a lot

High pressure switch most likely. clean the condensor coil and see if that helps.

You do realize that many products, equipment, & parts are made in China, Taiwan, etc.?

Thank you for the additional suggestion on the fan motor replacement!
Where would put condensate treatment pills or tabs inside the window's A/C unit to prevent the moldy smell that always develops over time ?
You would put them inside of the drain pan where the water collects.
So I have a 1.5 year old midea and it’s just circulating the air no compression is on . Is it possible the compressor is already bad within a year and a half? I do run it a lot
Do you know what else can damage the air conditioners hail from severe thunderstorms?
😂😂 nice joke jay.... its another Thanksgiving table joke 😂
Haha I'm glad you liked it! 😄😄 Thanks for stopping by for the new video good sir!
I replaced capacitor and still nothing. What else should I try. And also it isn’t loud how it used to be
So what happened before ice on the surface
👍👍👍
Thank you sir! 🙂👍🙏
👍 👍 💯
🙂🙏👍
I don't understand so what was the issue then if capacitor was fine?
I should have explained this in the video but there is actually nothing wrong with the one I was showing. It was just for demonstration purposes.
@@WordofAdviceTV Thanks for clarification and not leaving us on cliff hanger. 😁
compressor won't work
Great video and joke. 😂
Thank you! 😄
These new window air conditioners are junk. They last for about one season then their cooling ability drops off a cliff.
I am thinking they will not be getting better and more durable in the future either. 😅
Keep watching Jay & you might be able to repair them!
It never came out, lol.
