    Honestly I dress this way because it costs less because it’s timeless fashion and I don’t have to keep buying clothes and it looks tidy and presentable. I’m not trying to look rich!! It’s just a very efficient style. It’s also very easy to adjust this to my Indian culture too by wearing my traditional jewellery. I love this. I’ll save a lot with this style.

    Looking “expensive” which is actually looking classy is far from faking to be rich. I come from a working class family and my grandparents were teachers, my grandmother taught me etiquette and other things from my childhood and now when people meet me on the street they think that I’m a lawyer when I’m actually a tattoo artist so nailed it 😂

    • @s.a.4358
      @s.a.4358 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Exactly. Anna is not telling people to buy the most expensive brands or only designer, she is trying to educate about finding clothes, accessories, etc that look expensive in the sense of being good quality, well made, more classical designs etc. Yes some recommended brands are more expensive than H&M or Shein, but they are also not the most expensive brands + like with most things in life, something that doesn’t cost a lot is also likely to be made cheaply so yes, quality does mean spending a bit more or spending time to find those items, thrifting them, waiting for a sale, etc.

  • @CPT_B
    @CPT_B ปีที่แล้ว +410

    Anna, can I just say how much I LOVE how you address the condescending/snarky/hateful comments? Rather than degrade yourself by getting into a vulgar back-and-forth TH-cam drama war, you take their comment, create monetized content from it, and expose their ignorance.
    This is a perfect example - "No one wants to look cheap", EXACTLY. If you look cheap, you will be treated cheaply. Every woman should want to look polished and elevated, which, yes, implies that you have money - and yes, money = power. I don't know who is still pretending that money doesn't matter, or that there is anything wrong with wanting to look presentable.

But, you can look in alternate places, like thrift shops, Poshmark, or just buy less. yes a Lilisilk blouse is expensive, and maybe you cannot afford it, but Anna has given so much instruction as to
      how to use the money you have wisely.

    Looking “expensive” for me means:
    1. Looking like you made an effort and “invested” time and energy.
    2. Looking like you are comfortable with how you look and feel in your own skin and clothes.
    3. Looking like how you dress matters to YOU.
    My kids at times tell me things like: why are you “dressed” (meaning I am overdressed)? Who even cares? Who are you trying to impress?
    It matters to me, I care, I want to show myself I am worthy of looking my best. Period!

    I used to buy expensive clothes/bags just to look rich. Some women go through that stage when social validation is fulfilling. But as I age, i realized that it is more important to pay your mortgage, your pension plan and your kids college education and the rest doesn't really matter. Nowadays, all I want is to just look decent and to balance my finance between paying important bill, once or twice vacation and not looking destitute with my attire.

    Fact is that "looking expensive" and "looking classy" CAN coincide, but are not one and the same. You can look classy at any societal level, if you can't afford the real deal, you can always make the best of what you can afford. It's not a matter of "faking to be rich", is a matter of "showing the best version of yourself".

    There is a lot of “anti” feeling these days against looking well-dressed, or even groomed. It’s especially pronounced here in California, where only shlumpy, black or gray gym clothes are “acceptable”. Teenagers and young adults will only wear ratty, used clothes, to buy a single new thing is a social gaffe among them. But I know it’s not just my mature age, many younger women and men are resisting this enforced dumbing down of how we look. Looking like a slob is just another politically correct, Woke trope. So many of us will continue to dress well, to be put together and to look classy and modestly. It might not be trendy, but it’s a matter of self-respect and confidence. I love wearing my skirts and dresses nearly everyday, they’re much more comfy for me than trousers, jeans or gym wear. I especially hate jeans, I’ve never found a pair that fits in 50 years. I don’t see why I should be criticized for my preferences, I don’t care what other people wear, but the pressure to conform to the modern slob ideal is considerable. I’m not trying to fool or impress anyone, just to feel and look my best.

    I want to say something about the ignorant people who say you shouldn’t look “expensive” if you don’t come from a rich background. When my family came to the US from Europe 60 years ago (!!! - yes I am 60), they had NOTHING. Not even a passport - they came as refugees. But they had the clothes on their backs, which were all made by dressmakers and tailors in the old country. They dressed like a million bucks even though they only had a couple of things. Before my grandparents came to the USA they were in Brazil for seven years, where they ended up owning two clothing stores and a factory. My sister and I - who started school unable to speak English but well before the days of ESL - had beautiful clothing for years (until my grandparents sold up and came to America!). Dressing well does not mean you have a lot of money. It means you respect yourself. The other day I was in lower Manhattan with a college friend visiting from California. This woman walked past in a mesh dress that showed EVERYTHING. No bra. The dress itself was beautiful - I’m sure it was VERY expensive. But the woman looked like - well, a porn star - walking on the street in broad daylight. I have a lot of respect for you Anna and what you have accomplished in your life. Don’t listen to these jealous low lifes!!

    Yes, it's true that people suddenly treat you differently when you are put together. You don't even have to wear the most expensive clothes you can afford. Way more important is, that the clothes fit you, look well kept. When I started to wear colours and styles that actually flatter me, people began to treat me way better than before. • @nikhitarawal
    @nikhitarawal ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The idea that looking expensive or dressing well is a sign of being "fake rich" can be a subjective and somewhat judgmental perspective. People have various reasons for dressing well or investing in their appearance, and it doesn't necessarily indicate insincerity or a lack of authenticity. Here are a few reasons why someone might choose to look expensive or improve their sense of style:
    Self-Confidence: Dressing well and feeling put together can boost one's self-esteem and self-confidence. When you feel good about yourself, it can positively impact your overall well-being and interactions with others.
    Professionalism: In some industries and professions, a polished appearance is essential. Dressing professionally can help individuals advance in their careers and make a positive impression on clients, colleagues, or employers.
    Personal Expression: Fashion and style are forms of self-expression. Some people genuinely enjoy experimenting with clothing and using it as a way to express their creativity and individuality.
    Cultural or Social Norms: In certain social or cultural contexts, dressing well is a sign of respect or adherence to traditions. It may be expected or required for formal events, religious ceremonies, or family gatherings.
    Mood Enhancement: As you mentioned, dressing better can elevate your mood. Putting effort into your appearance can be a form of self-care and a way to feel good about yourself.
    Boosting Motivation: Some people, myself included find that dressing well helps them stay motivated and productive. It can create a sense of purpose and discipline in their daily routines.
    While there's nothing inherently wrong with wanting to look expensive or improve your sense of style, it's important to do so in a way that aligns with your values and financial means. You don't have to spend a lot of money to achieve a stylish look; it's possible to find affordable clothing that suits your taste and budget.
    Ultimately, judgments about whether someone is "fake rich" based on their appearance can be unfair and unhelpful. People's financial situations and motivations for dressing a certain way are often more complex than they appear, and it's best to avoid making assumptions about others based solely on their outward appearance. Instead, they should focus on your own goals for personal style and self-expression and respect others' choices to do the same.

    Maybe it's just my interpretation of the content Ana's put out, but I've always felt like as far as clothes, make-up etc (material things), she helps women to work with what they have and can afford to look put together, beautiful, and elegant. Doesn't matter what the $ in their bank account. I've taken her advice and adjusted it so it fits my budget and lifestyle.... let me tell you! After being a LOT more intentional about where I shop, what I shop for, and the make-up I wear/how to correctly apply make up, I'm not breaking the bank. My dress that I'm wearing today was $10, my lipgloss is $7, the eyeshadow palatte was $9. But thanks to Ana, I look expensive, put together and like I had $200 that I spent on my dress and make-up. I feel really beautiful because my outer appearance is exemplifying the beauty I already had

When I slack for a day or wear a t-shirt out of the house, I really feel the negative impact on my energy. I've also been practicing stoicism, feeling happy for people instead of jealousy, and I think this is helping me attract the lifestyle I want. Has anyone here read the Millionaire Next Door? The majority of millionairs are self made, dont look rich, dont act rich, dont dress rich and are actually rich. That's how they got there in the first place, by not spending. So looking rich is the exact opposite of what a rich person does. Ironic isn't it? Now elegance, that's a different story. That can be done on any budget, and takes style and class to accomplish. Let's not confuse the two.

    To look fine u dont need to spend too much money, and not only in classic/elegant outfit u can look fine. U can be sporty, bohemian , romantic, extreme. I cant see why people always need to be anxious to show status. Fantasy is more important.

    It's actually quite common for very wealthy people to want to NOT look super rich -- for instance, it can put up a wall with people socially, or make you stand out more to would-be robbers. Wealthy people want the ability to move through life easily and smoothly. It's much easier to do that if you spend on always looking well-groomed and approachable rather than spending on flashy designer logos.

      I agree to a certain extent. Everyone I know who has made a lot of money in a short amount of time are very flashy and have the stereotypical millionaire lifestyle. Those who built up wealth over decades are very low key in how they dress, where they live and what car they drive. I live near a titled family, unless you knew who they were and their yearly placement on the rich list, you would think they are poor. I guess it could be considered a new money/old money divide.

There are material and money rich people who are very ugly in being and there are people who have nothing and have the most beautiful hearts and character who are very attractive. Ever since I started following your advices, I've received tons of compliments on the way I dress. And no, I haven't bought anything expensive because I'm still a student, but I do love the thrift shops, and because of you I know what type of fabrics, shapes, and clothing to look for and I feel my best when wearing them. I've rid myself of the habit of being too dressed down and since then I've always felt confident about myself. I also found that dressing up for the day makes me more productive. I agree with you that people are not actually trying to look expensive, it's just that your fashion recommendations work best for most ladies. Plus the timelessness of it is a relief that you don't have to follow trends anymore.

    I laughed at the "Guess what? no women on the internet is going to look for videos on how to look cheap"! 😂
    I mean, come one! of course the majority of us isn't rich, but this doesn't mean we don't want to look elegant and classy, even if it's on a budget...after all I think everyone can agree on the fact that first impressions matter the most: if you meet your new professors/boss/colleagues/future in law/prospective employers, you want to look your best and make a lasting impression..and the best part is, even if you will never ever wear chic clothes in front of them ever again, they will always talk about you describing you as elegant and classy, plus usually they consider you a serious and reliable person.
    What I don't get is why people feel the need to comment that a video triggers them....but maybe don't look at this topics if you know they can trigger you? Like, basic common sense flew out of the window?

    Looking expensive has so many different roots. Lookimg expensive is how we all should feel and I am not talking about money, I refer to have enriched lifed with the things, places and people you share with.
    My late grandma was spending most of her time with animals, doing "dirty" and heavy work, other part she spent in a yard and other creating clothes by her own, she had Burda which was the top magazine for tailors those years then, when she could she dresses like a lady, she traveled also sometimes but in my description she was expesive lady, she had a worth for all what she could do and how she acted, how people loved her, how beautiful she was outside and inside. For me, that all makes you being an Expensive person, expensive woman❤

    Most of my clothes are from thrift shops, $10 or less on well-made items - old brands people have forgotten and old pieces when they were made well, from brands people do know. Finding the right piece takes time. I work from a list of needs and don't have expectations when i hit the shops. If it's there, it's there, if it's not, it's not...wait for another day. A few from Ross, some well-made from Walmart i bought almost 10 years ago, still in like-new shape. The most I paid was a well-made business suit for work i bought in 2009 that I still wear today, also in like-new condition. Take of the clothes and they will take care of you.

    I'm quite on the poor side. I barely scrape by and most of my clothing definitely looks cheap and tattered. My best friend is doing better and she takes the time to keep classy and well kept clothing and accessories in her wardrobe. The difference is night and day in how she looks and, more relevant, in how she's treated by the people around her.
    Looking classy will open a lot of doors for you and grant you privileges. Anyone pretending that is not the case is just coping.

      I'm not rich and my budget for clothes and accessories is very strict (I usually fix my limits at no more than 50 euros for pants, no more than 20 euros for a shirt/top, no more than 70 euros for a dress, no more than 80 euros for shoes; only for special occasions I can go higher). And I buy a new item just when the old one is really worn to the bone. But choosing wisely while buying and keeping good care of those clothes can do wonders. I own and wear clothes that are technically "fast fashion" (H&M, OVS, Only and the likes) but they have lasted for 6-7 or even 10 years now. And they still look presentable. Maybe you can do something like that?

      I’m low income and people consider me to be stylish. Here are my tips:
      1. Skip accessories! Don’t buy jewelry, belts, or unnecessary hair accessories. You don’t need really any of these things, they will just drag you down. Take the money that you would spend on something like cheap earrings and put them towards a pair of nicer jeans or nicer shoes. Don’t be fooled by influencers - I get tons of compliments on outfits that only have underwear, bra, socks, shoes, pants, shirt, bag, concealer, lip gloss, mascara.
      2. Buy good hair brushes. I have a wet brush, a professional round brush and a Mason Pearson brush with boar bristles. I don’t use hair product and my hair always looks good down.
      2. Don’t buy multiple bags or multiple shoes. Declutter anything that is worn out or tattered even if that means you are only using one bag.
      3. Don’t overstyle your hair, do your own nails and don’t buy too much makeup. 2 lipsticks are enough. Instead, buy some nice hosiery to wear with skirts and a good bra.
      4. Stop comparing yourself to others.

      5. Own a smaller wardrobe and save in advance, even if that's 10pm for shoes at H+M.
      6. Know what you want in advance and shop the sales.
      7. Keep your house tidy and garden neat.
      8. Don't buy seasonal home decor or books.
      9. Own a few pieces of selected makeup that suits you year round.

Also, it didn't help her that she was cleaning the kitchen. We all thought she was the cleaning lady. She was actually another substitute teacher.
    Later, I went to sub for another school and this man was really dressed up and he said something about people washing their hands and splashing the water. I hadn't washed my hands there that day, but that's beyond the point. People were saying oh the principal got mad.
