    2 weeks until I will be competing for singing competition and only this video accurately demonstrated how this technique eliminates the breakpoint between head and chest voice thank you very much.

    We always learn something new, don’t we? I knew that yawning and swallowing gives you the awareness of the larynx position, but I’ve never heard of actually exercise these actions. I’ll keep this in mind!

    Just started today 28-07_23. I hope to see an improvement. It is very difficult to do the exercise. I tend to open my mouth a lot while trying to yawn. I really want to get rid of my break

      Yeah! All the best for your singing journey. It will get easier with time so just stay persistent 😀

    Hi Timo, what word or vowel are you singing in this yawn exercise? Many thanks!

    • @timoparker
      @timoparker  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi there, the vowel I'm using in this video is an "ä", which sits in between "a" and "e". But you could also imagine using the "schwa" sound like in "mothER, natuRE, centRE". As long as you can relax and incorporate a yawning into your singing, it doesn't matter too much which vowel you are using. For most people a vowel between "a" and "e" is the a good place to start. 😀

    Ive ben doin R tills, lip trills etc for like 2 years. But is till hard for me to understand where I am placing the notes. I use the back of my through but its never consistent

    • @timoparker
      @timoparker  ปีที่แล้ว

      Could you be a little more specific? Is the tongue not consistent in the sound (with R trills) or is it the sound itself?

    I have been exercising the muscles by following your method. How do I know for sure I am using my CT muscles when singing higher notes? How do I activate them?

    • @timoparker
      @timoparker  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’m happy to hear that you are practicing and working out those muscles!
      If there is no “switch” happening in your voice and you can keep your Thyroid cartilage low, it is pretty likely that you are using the muscles involved in head voice (incl. the CT muscle). You won’t be able to really feel the engagement of this muscle and you should rather focus on staying relaxed and engaging the yawning muscle without forcing your vocal cords to close, if they don’t want to close anymore.
      If you are not using any air pressure the only thing that could happen is that you switch into falsetto instead of continue using head voice. This video might help you to differentiate between these two.

      Hope this helps! 😊

    If i want to sing higher do i need to be in the yawning placement? And sing in head voice? I've been fighting this for about a year lol

    • @timoparker
      @timoparker  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The rule of thumb is that higher you sing the more you should focus on keeping your thyroid cartilage (larynx) in the same position or lower. If you haven't previously trained your yawning muscle it could be quite a challenge.
      I would recommend to start to practice this in head voice and later on you can do the same thing with chest voice.

      @@timoparker ok I think this makes sense, I've been lowering it the last few days just to get used to it and only tried singing once and it was so much easier, I just couldn't stay with it engaged for too long 😂 I'll keep practicing

    Hi Timo, after two days of yawning, I had neck fatigue and voice fatigue. Is that a common thing?

    • @timoparker
      @timoparker  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hello Hài Mai,
      this could happen if you tense up when yawning, especially in your neck. Maybe you also just yawned too much. I would definitely take a break until you are fully recovered. Try to do less and focus on staying relaxed and don’t force anything.
      Your voice shouldn’t get fatigued from it. Did you actually make a sound when you were yawning? If yes, try to stay silent and just focus on being relaxed. It takes time to train this muscle, so don’t overdo it! Rather start slowly with less and build it up gradually, so you never get sore or severely fatigued.
      You actually inspired me to do a video about it so stay tuned 😊
