Not a BMW tool - A large old smooth screwdriver works fine to depress the tappet. I then used half of an old cheap mild steel caliper -( the fixed part with a right angle jaw) to poke in and lock the tappet bucket edge down against the camshaft. Worked perfectly. The cam and tappet face are VERY hard, so no risk of scratching them at all.
