I remember my brother bought a pretty thick reputable starcraft guide and tutorial book back then. But of course the last page had all the cheat codes and that was all I cared about when I was 4 or 5. Now I'm coming back and playing it right 20 years later
Bro. I'm 30 years old. Never played Statcraft like all my friends did when we were kids. Now I'm playing and I'm questioning my entire existence. Thanks for the tutorials
This is the perfect antidote for an overthinker like me. Wish I'd found this sooner. As a noob, I've been focusing on the higher level stuff, like build orders and strategy because that's what fascinates me when I watch pro games. However, it's important to realize that's icing on top of a good macro cake. Yum.
I am a new player to Star Craft and this is very helpful to someone as green as I am. Thank you kindly! EDIT: Able to max out with Protoss at 15 minutes 5 seconds so far! EDIT: Got it down to 14 minutes now. Good practice thanks again! :D
No, he is the manager;p It's like ants when they work there is always this one ant doing "nothing" if you take that ant away another ant takes its place xd
Just built my PC and I still have my disc, been really excited at picking it back up again after SOOOO many years, this is exactly what I was looking for , thank you for your time🤝
Whaaat?! Just reinstaled SCBW after, IDK, 25 years, and got my ass kicked in rush. Then watched this video and won like a walk in the park! So perfect! Thank you!
I just bought game and beat the campaign before anything else and feel this video is what I have to do right now. Sounds like great advise and am about to do my first 1 vs 1 against a computer and try to replicate this. Thanks!
I don't normally comment on videos but thank you for your guide. A lot of other guides suck because they are not direct and to the point like your tutorials. I used to play SC1 as a kid and was ok. After watching just this tutorial and applying the concepts, i noticed I wasnt rushing to defend my base as often, getting rekt, or being the dead leg on teams. IM looking forward to watching your other videos
This is just the first step. You have to watch the other videos on multi-tasking, micro etc AFTER you master Macro. Watch videos of pros from the vantage point of their screens and see how they are wearing their keys out like this th-cam.com/video/F6y_vVBg6D0/w-d-xo.html
Just found these videos, and I like it! I've been kind of interested in gettin' gud at SC1 after I learned how to get decent at SC2, but there's not a lot of good tutorials on it. Most of them are just build-order guides. Some of the principles from SC2 carry over, but it's a very different beast, SC1. When I was a kid, I only ever played custom maps and the campaign. I never really bothered with ladder.
@Professor Protoss I am a new StarCraft player. Thank you so much for making this video! You are an excellent teacher and and this video was very instructional and easy to follow. I like that you gave specific tips to practice. Please make more! Could you make a video for Macro with Terran and Zerg? Thanks again for the help!
Thanks for the video Professor Protoss. Made a huge difference to the game for me. Managed 12' 59" on my first go with minerals to the north (spawn was at 12 o'clock) - probably another reason they don't use this map any more for pro games! Definitely going top watch the rest of the series :)
I've done my homework today my first game 32mins :S of course zerg fully upgraded My second game 26mins Zerg 70 of the supply were ultralisk fully upgraded also hydra a d zerglings Not quite sure how to adapt the homework to zerg but I'm going to keep practicing thanks man by the tutorial I'm a new player I'm going to watch all your tutorials
i just got back into this thru nostalgia but i got crushed i honestly knew all this just needed to hear it again bcuz its been 18 years since ive played starcraft lol
Just started, took me 20 minutes to max protoss, experimented more with buying more gateways but didn't have the minerals to back it up and keep producing on two bases
Wow ! Coming back to SC from Chess, I was looking from lots of difference stuff : build order, strategies, best matchups, micro management... I'm sure your video will save me lots of time lost on things that are too evolved for n00b like me In Chess, usually it's useless to spend time on opening theory, endgames, strategical thinking if you suck at tactics and miss mate in 1, in 2, given pieces, or game changing easy moves I guess it's pretty much the same here Thanks for what may be the most efficient resource I've found so far about how to improve as a total beginner
Went to Korea and met some guys. They said they were noobs, turns out they can play all 3 races pretty well. Noob in Korea has a different meaning LOL.
First game I played as a kid, StarCraft, my dad miraculously bought me the “Battle Chest” randomly. After spending countless sleepness nights playing it, I moved onto custom games and eventually switched to Halo. Bit of advice: when you say something that is StarCraft specific, like gate, cut to the information that will explain it.
Damn when remastered came out (can't believe it's 6 years ago now!!) I just played the campaign and watched ASL. WHY am I only now just getting into the MP... lol it';s a very satisfying game.
Homework done! I didn't check my time but at least I crushed the terran easily. It works really well! Thanks a lot I'm looking for the next lesson professor ^^
How many workers can be on mineral/gas? Coming as a new player from sc2 and its a bit weird bc you dont get specifics. The answer to this is 16-24. Can you rally build pylons/gateways? The answer to this is NO you can not in starcraft 1, however you can build something then rally to minerals or gas holding shift. Not as amazing as sc2 but still a good mechanic to use. I know its been a long time but Thank you for making this video ❤ 2022 new sc player haha 😅
I just started playing and my apm is 24 LOL. I am 30 and I knew I would be bad, but my god. I have been having fun playing the campaign, but yeah most of my missions last an hour. I REALLY hate the whole can only have 12 units thing my god.
Tried this today for the first time and lost at 9.00 because i didn't build enough units. 2nd try i maxed out at 17.50 after sacrificing a few units defending the second attack. Good stuff man, why did no one come up with that sooner ?
I feel like it's important to hotkey your gateways/barracks more because you need to be able to build units in the heat of battle without going back to look at your base. You keep fighting and moving the rally points closer.
Good educational video. But, for example, playing as terran vs. computer is harder, due to one huge difference. As protoss, you can build everuthing using 1 probe at a time. As terran i can't maximize my supplies, becasuse 1 scv can't build multiple buildings at once. So, what's your advise? Ignore when computer is harassing me and focus on mastering the skill of macro? (p.s. sry for my bad eng)
i actually applied your technique to the 3rd mission of campaign i think it was the third anyway and when i was playing years ago i didnt do very well pretty sure i had to load saves and stuff but this time around it was actually easy and I have not really practiced this technique at all
First try, 20 minutes. Second try, 13 minutes. O.O For fun, I took that max army and tried to attack the AI, and they almost wiped my marines out, but I took out 2 of their 3 bases.
I have Starcraft 2 and I can actually beat the AI on medium despite being a slowpoke. SC1/BW though? nope, I can't do it, but your video has been instructive, so maybe revisiting the oldie won't be so terribad as it used to be for me.
can I ask why build ground units? why not just build a bunch of scouts? genuine question (I always just played against the computer for fun growing up was never remotely competitive)
Professor I have a question. So I can only select up to around 12 units at a time, and my army is usually bigger than that. How do you suggest I handle commanding all my army at once when I can only select around 12 at a time?
I usually save my first 3 hotkeys for army. I use 4 for gateway 5 for robo and 098 for nexus. If you need 4 control groups because you’re army is that big use 1234 and gateway 5 robo 6
Girish The WordCaster yep. Make sure to build them close together and to rally them by right clicking where you want the u it’s to go after they come out
Watching this made me feel like my life was meaningless and my time was going into the dumpster. Good teaching for sure, but unfortunately i just cant practice this lol
Haven't played SC in a while (8 years or so) i'm finding it very hard to compete against the CPU. The CPU would've probably rushed me at the 9:00 min mark with 10 marines or something and that would be game over for me. Do you think it's a good idea to practice against the CPU at all?
Playing with the CPU is very different from playing with a real person. CPUs are more predictable but have less latency between each action, while human strategies are near unlimited but their response time can vary. CPU is good for basic practice on build orders and macro, but probably not micro (because there's not much micro for CPU).
Unfortunately you can’t. I use 1 hot key for my gateway and manually click each one around it. Try to build them closer together. I use a separate hot key for each nexus starting at 0,9,8,7 1 hot key for robotics. The first 3 I generally use for army 1,2,3
Absolute legend. Dropped a full Brood War tutorial and then retired. Hats off to you!
It's a shame that there was no TH-cam in 99' when I could have really used your tutorials. Just subscribed! I haven't played in 17 years.
Emmanuel Lescouflair right. I had no idea when this came out I just now realized there were hotkeys in the old game.
I remember my brother bought a pretty thick reputable starcraft guide and tutorial book back then. But of course the last page had all the cheat codes and that was all I cared about when I was 4 or 5. Now I'm coming back and playing it right 20 years later
thank god here was no youtube in 99.
haven't played in 19 years. We're on the same boat. But I can still beat my 10 year old son (he just started). LOL.

Bro. I'm 30 years old. Never played Statcraft like all my friends did when we were kids. Now I'm playing and I'm questioning my entire existence. Thanks for the tutorials
Same man. I used to love playing g these types of games when i was a kid but now I can't even beat a campaign on easy mode

What’s ur build order?

Structured and deliberate goal setting. You need to get paid for this
I just discovered the Starcraft masterpiece this month, thank the heavens for your vid.
Whaaat?! Just reinstaled SCBW after, IDK, 25 years, and got my ass kicked in rush. Then watched this video and won like a walk in the park! So perfect! Thank you!
This is a quality video and very informative. And the touch of turning it into an assignment was the cherry on top lol
Great video. I particularly like the calm and positive style of delivery you used in this tutorial. The Bob Ross of Starcraft.
Just getting into Starcraft for the first time. Had no clue about the skill gap. I am struggling but enjoying it so far. Cheers!

Do you have an example of how to macro with Zerg? Being the Overlords have control of the capacity, when do you include them in the Drone building?
The probe in the middle mineral Patch Is off work duty lol xD
You're a good teacher. Do you want a job teaching game tutorials? DM me.
Reject "you must construct additional pylons"
Embrace "let's build another pylon, why not"
Great tutorial, man! It really helped!
I feel like it's important to hotkey your gateways/barracks more because you need to be able to build units in the heat of battle without going back to look at your base. You keep fighting and moving the rally points closer.
His point is that it's more important for a noob to macro. The other stuff comes later.
It's only practical when you have a few production buildings. If you have more it's better to screen position over them.
thank you professor protoss i love you

do you hotkey your gateways?
No observers/photon cannons can be trouble. A few cloaked units can take you out.
True, but the purpose of this is to build mechanics and worry about the strategy and timings later. Gotta walk before you can run
Thank you for this
Great!
