I’ve finally worked up the courage to start SC2, and I’m hooked. It’s been daunting, but videos such as these are a huge help with building strategy and learning the overall mechanics of this game. Thanks for the content!
This is genuinely the best Starcraft 2 video guide series I've seen. Like there are so many out there and a fair amount of them are the ones frequently recommended to people, they're not as well-paced and composed as this. I've played Starcraft casually since the first game's launch, but I never could wrap my mind around the fundamentals of proper play for competitive matches, so I stuck to campaigns and custom matches for the longest time. I felt itching for an RTS lately and came back to SC2 and going through this and your series really helped a ton for me to finally understand how to properly play and actually learn better along the way rather than feel like I'm not making any progress learning.
Played this game nine years ago and am just now getting into it again! I have watched this whole playlist and am so happy to have found this gem of a guide. Thank you! hope to see more starcraft content from you.
Thank you so much! I've got a lot more content coming. I can't spend as much time as I wish on my channel atm so they take quite a while to get out but they're coming! Good luck and have fun! :)
In the same boat right now, I remember waking up early to watch the Korean tournaments when I was 13/14. I’m now 22 looking to get back to my gaming roots lol.
I am not normally the type to comment on videos but I am completely blown away by the production quality and overall information found in the video, you earned a sub and a like, I really hope you continue in youtube as it is only a matter of time before you blow up, great work!
This game is one of the legendary titles of all time and never gets old …playing it from the first one when i was younger untill now that im 34yrs old..just here to say thank u to guide the new comers🤘🏻🍻
Literally found this video starting my SC2 journey here in 2022. Starcraft is and always will be a daunting game to pick up but this was extremely well done and easy to follow. Thank you very much, sir!
Just started playing StarCraft 2 a week ago. I’m almost done with the Protoss campaign and I’m about to head into multiplayer. This video has been super helpful for discovering the fundamentals of Macro.
Really underrated video. One of the best tuts i've seen. Nice talking speed. Good pronunciation. Clear overlayed information in the video. Structure in the time slider of the video. I just love this. I just played my first 5 games of SC2. Once Terran, twice protoss and zerg. I managed to get to 80 workers in 8:30 minutes in my last match, but i probably did not have 200 supply yet. Still this is great, thanks so much!
My dad got me in to RTS games with Warcraft 2, and OpenRA, and I’ve never been too good. I’ve wanted to get better at Starcraft 2 for so long, and this helped so much!! You’re a godsend man. Thank you
As a very new Zerg player, I found myself constantly with too much larvae (especially when I learned how to inject) and got constantly supply blocked. Saying this video helped would be an understatement!
I don't think this video could possibly be any better than as presented. EXCEPTIONAL, concise, and well shared tutorial. SO HELPFUL. I am beyond impressed and grateful for this video. THANK YOU SO MUCH!
This video is helpful. Saw my uncle played starcraft 20 years ago. Was bored during the week then I randomly remembered about starcraft. Started playing it and kept getting destroyed in unranked.
You have no idea how much this helped me quell my anxiety to jump into Versus matchmaking. I just got SC2 about a month ago, and after going through Terran and Zerg campaign, I still felt inadequate to play Vs, but after following the fundamentals you’ve laid out, I took the plunge and stuck with it. A couple games got owned, then I got a few wins and was placed in gold which I was surprised at. Thanks for the content, I’ll keep looking to improve, and I hope to see more videos from you soon!
Thank you so much, I played the game a few times in the past and kept giving up because of the complexity and alot of the build orders that were titled as "beginner order" were actually hard to follow for me but this video broke down many fundementals and things which i didnt even know about and ive slowly started to get better. I have been practicing on AI and my APM started on 39 but its slowly been going up every match. Great video!!
This is exactly what I've been looking for. Thank you for this vid. Finally something really useful to the start. Love the part of breaking down macros for each race and pointing out about not spamming workers to full right away. Great points, easy to understand, perfect for newcomers. Thank you once again.
What really makes your guide stand out is the last part for me. Giving your viewers a way to practice all the cool things you just talked about that isn't just "Jump into PvP and eventually you'll get the hang of it" is so helpful. I definitely have developed multiplayer fear over the years and I like having a way in a new game to get a grasp of the muscle memory beforehand that isn't against a person. Coming from playing a crap ton of WoW, the process of sitting my character at a target dummy and endlessly just practicing my rotation, fine tuning my hotkeys, and really experimenting by myself is how I got good. It's been the first thing I've looked for in SC2, so this is just so amazing to find. Thank you Altercate, truly.
Just getting back into starcraft 2 again after about a 7 year hiatus. Always sucked at multi-player, but been a huge fan since the first game. Hope to learn a lot
Man, you just motivated me to get back to the game and try again. I quit because I am used to sc broodwar, back in the day I was pretty good at it.. but sc2 seemed too confusing to me, now I have a much better understanding of the game thanks to you. This is top class content. Congratulations, you should have way more views
I used to play this game when I was about 13 (7 years ago) and I had absolutely no idea of what I was doing but enjoyed it. Then I saw a video about starcraft APM and thought of giving it a try... Your video really helped me, with clear explanations, and repeating things a million times (something I really need xD) I will try to put your tips into practice right now! I appreciate the work you've put into it, I'm hoping for your channel to grow, cheers from Brazil :)
I played StarCraft as a child and now in 2023 I'm gonna learn StarCraft II. It's nostalgic and super challenging at the same time, but this video already helped me a LOT. thanks for the content, you're amazing
The pro scene is better than ever IMO! As for the community, it's definitely gone down quite a bit since the game's heyday in 2011-2012, but I think it's got healthy numbers and it doesn't seem to be slowing down too much! 😀
8:43 - I've been playing Starcraft 2 for years and this is the first time I've seen this. I have been playing co-op for a while and I wanted to know if I could start Ranked. I happened upon this video by pure chance. Thanks, bro.
Scary to play! I feel like I'm panicking trying to multitask all of these things at break neck speeds while simultaneously managing my foe's attacks and defenses! Still, this video completely broke my losing streak! I'm so happy I found it!
Remember beginners it is always good to have a lot of scvs also known as workers so that u can expand ur command center to mineral patches and also remember use the keyboard don't just use mouse this is a rts game it requires microong units here another press a key to the gwneral direction of ur opponents army so that u wldnt need to micro by shooting 1 ship or unit by 1
These videos are really amazing, I always wanted to learn an RTS game cause they seemed really cool but felt way to complicated and hard but this videos really puts them into a better perspective.
Learning shortcuts and hot keys was always my weaknesse i am a designer and i use a tool called figma and i struggle to learn hot keys but your videos made me learn how to do that in game and in my own work now I don't have problems with it thanks a ton
I started playing starcraft at maybe 9 years old cause of my dad, I can't believe how much fundies I actually had correct, but seeing where I was wrong is really cool :D I hope to start playing again soon as an adult, thx for the videos!
I’m an esports lecturer in the UK. I teach production and event management and so on but one of the units I’ve taken on is about skill analysis. Getting my lot to play a few different esports games (I’m an overwatch player mostly) and StarCraft is insanely overwhelming. All of the “tutorial” videos I’ve found are still pretty abstract and don’t really explain things that well. This is clear, concise, detailed, extremely well laid out. I don’t know if you also work in education as your day job but I have been teaching for 10 years and have two degrees in it and you have taken something really complicated and explained it perfectly at a beginner level. This is a really great video. Thank you 🙏
Wow, thank you so much! I’m not an educator but I work with requirements for IT systems and I’ve found over my career that honing my ability to explain things clearly has been very helpful :)
Very helpful. I can't wait to use these methods. Also I love the style of this tutorial, I wish all tutorials were as high quality as this. Keep up the good work.
“Stop playing against the AI go against real people. It’s all about the mind games.” Ohh so that’s why he kept calling me a retard over and over again. It was all SCII mind games™ lol
Meanwhile @32:32 he tells us to practice by playing a custom game against very easy AI... BUT I follow his line of thinking: to win, you have to destroy the enemy base. Easiest and surest way to destroy bases is to build a big army faster than your opponent. Fastest way to build a big scary army (mind games!) is to have a macro that is more efficient than your enemy’s.
@@evshrug Plus the idea of the AI match isn't to practice beating the AI, just to work on the execution of your macro cycle in relative peace. The problem is when you start building bad strategic/planning habits around the AI when humans can easily work around it. So it's a good space to work on your own habits, but a bad idea to try and learn actual competitive tactics.
@@Kazmahu Exactlyyyy! I never play AI to practice strategy, but rather, so practice the fundamentals without the natural anxiety I get whenever I play ranked.
Thank you for uploading this. I am very excited to start learning and playing StarCraft. I have followed you on all platforms and I think you'll be doing great with your channel.
This was a fantastic video for the fundamentals of SC2 gameplay! Honestly I'm not too big a fan of teaching beginners build orders because it tends to make them play rigidly and predictably. So I love that you decided not to throw in a build order and instead opted for a standard playstyle to master to allow new players to choose whatever build orders match their preferred playstyle.
Thank you! Absolutely agree. Focusing on build orders too soon will stunt your growth (and more importantly, enjoyment!) imo. Understanding the fundamentals is so much more important! 😀
2:40 wow I didn't even realize your video only has 5k views, seems professional so far. here's my comment, started playing yesterday and I hope I can beat my friends soon :P
I've been playing starcraft for decades, and I underestimated a lot of the ideas you show here, tried it in one misson yesterday, and it's night and day!
This is great. As someone who struggles with multi tasking and can't figure this game's fundamentals. This video is really helpful. Great work @Altercate
I love the mech build recommendation. Having new players focus on mech is an awesome way to ensure player growth. Barracks are easier to use, but quickly build an overrelliance on marines. Mech encourages the player to mess around with their other toys.
@Axel Ave wait, are you suggesting that there is another person who has mastered the basics of sc2? My mind is completely blown 🤯 And are you also suggesting that person put in less effort into producing their videos? Sign me up! I definitely want to watch videos going over the basics of sc2 from the person who put in less effort. Thanks for the recommendation!
@@RyouTheMad Good luck! Imo the key to enjoying StarCraft is to see it as a learning process and a challenge. The most satisfying part is learning how to counter the things you used to get crushed by 😀
This is what I've been looking for, a true beguinner tutorial. It's a bless finding this kind of videos that truly try to make u understand how the game works, instead of just plainly throwing several amounts of build orders to your face
Who needs tech, right?! Seriously though, these principles are just for learning about macro, and I do encourage players to get Robotics Facilities and Stargates when they get comfortable with the basics. 😂
You don't realize how much you just helped me learn Starcraft. Like omg, i needed this tutorial since a month ago. I recently started playing SC, and I've been trying to get better at the game. Knowledge is power as they say, and it's so true!
This finally gave me the courage to start playing the game. I love watching tournaments and the lore of this game is so cool. Thank you for this series!
Complete Beginner here, 3 days into the game, this and the Hotkeys Tutorials are super helpful, easy to follow, and fairly simple. I went to practice and was able to reach 200 supply in 16 minutes as terran. Thanks for making videos like these!
I know this is old and whatnot BUT I've been playing SC2 for almost a decade on and off. Legit never have touched PVP due to being scared of being destroyed. This video gave me the confidence boost I needed to get out of the vsAI mines. Today I just ranked up to Gold 2 and I'm very happy and satisfied with that achievement. For how small it might seen, it's a big deal for me ;w; Thank you so much for this and the other guides they have all been really useful.
I used to play starcraft 1 and jumping into sc2 after over 10 years of not playing and not knowing about macros etc is intimidating but this video was helpful. Thank you
Just started SC2 and it is my first RTS. This video seems to lay out the plan for beginners in an easy to understand way. Much better than the SC2 in game Tutorial. Thank you.
Total beginner of SC2 but more or less 20 years as a gamer (FPS mostly). This tutorial got me in to SC2. I subscribed mostly because this tutorial was so good. Thanks :)
Thanks for the video man. Really helpful. In 10 years of university I attended hundreds of lectures and let me tell you: you have real didactic talent.
I've been playing starcraft for years. But I never even TOUCHED the PvP. I always felt like I'm not fast enough to be any good out there. So I just sticked with the campaigns and coop. But now, after watching you video, I feel like giving it a shot. Thank you for giving me the nudge I needed. 😊
That's awesome, glad I could help! Remember, *no one* is fast enough when they start playing against other players! It all comes from practice. Good luck with the game and have fun! 😀
I use to play the first StarCraft for hours and hours back when I was in high school in 1999. I haven't been into gaming in a long time and just got a gaming laptop so I can play some in my spare time. StarCraft 2 looks a lot better. I'm here to refresh my memory om the game and learn about any changes. Another game I played a lot back in the day in college was Quake 3 arena. I can't believe the servers are still on and people are still playing on them.
I've been playing for almost a year. I was utter crap for that year. I am now wiping my canvas clear. And I now hope that you keep pumping out content as good as this.
Brand new to SC but long time Warcraft III player and Rise of Nations player. Just played 5 or so games against bots last night with a friend who’s a long time veteran of the game. Can’t wait to put some of these tactics and basics into practice so we can start hopping into versus modes together. Really well made video!
yu know i started playing SC2 when i was like 9 or 10 now im 13 and well i think iv goten a little bit better your tips and tricks hellped me a work out things i did not know before
I've always build so random during free play and campaign. Figuring the optimal macro on my own didn't quite work out. Thanks for the on point and we'll structured tutorial. Even all 3 races are covert in a compact manner.
I have watched professional Starcraft 2 for almost ten years, this video finally gave me the urge to actually download it and try it. Thanks for answering the few questions I had left. Happy to have found your channel. Great work

@@alexanderxyz6146 Why write all that when nobody asked?
@@katto1937 I was looking for a longer read. Glad he wrote it.
this is so much better than all those videos that just show a "beginner build order" without any actual explanation
These videos made me realise how well thought out Starcraft's GUI is with all the macros.
I’ve finally worked up the courage to start SC2, and I’m hooked. It’s been daunting, but videos such as these are a huge help with building strategy and learning the overall mechanics of this game. Thanks for the content!
Thank you! I'm glad it helped you out. Keep fighting! :)
That’s awesome to hear! So glad I could help :) Good luck with the game and have fun!
Bro was so kind and genuine about being happy to have people at his channel, I love it
Played this game nine years ago and am just now getting into it again!
It's 2022 and I just decided to take the plunge into learning. Amazing video man. Thanks!
Glad I could help! :)
I am not normally the type to comment on videos but I am completely blown away by the production quality and overall information found in the video, you earned a sub and a like, I really hope you continue in youtube as it is only a matter of time before you blow up, great work!
Thank you so much, that means a lot to me! :) I'll keep working hard!
This game is one of the legendary titles of all time and never gets old …playing it from the first one when i was younger untill now that im 34yrs old..just here to say thank u to guide the new comers🤘🏻🍻
Thank you! Yes, StarCraft will never go out of style :)
Literally found this video starting my SC2 journey here in 2022. Starcraft is and always will be a daunting game to pick up but this was extremely well done and easy to follow. Thank you very much, sir!
Glad I could help! Good luck and have fun with the game :)
Backspace key cycles through my bases?! Been playing this game for eleven years, and this was new to me.
You learn something new every day! 😂
It says alot if you been playing for 11 years. And here I am, revisiting, wanting to play again. Best game ever....
@@dizastro5437 Absolutely amazing game for sure 😀
🤣🤣🤣good morning
I rebinded it to spacebar. Much more ez now
Just got back into playing some StarCraft after years away, used to play when I was a kid on N64 lol The video quality is top notch! Thanks!
This is very useful! thanks
Thank you! Glad I could help 😀
Honestly one of the best tutorials I've ever seen for any game
Thank you! :)
Thank you so much! Good luck with your games! :)
My dad got me in to RTS games with Warcraft 2, and OpenRA, and I’ve never been too good. I’ve wanted to get better at Starcraft 2 for so long, and this helped so much!! You’re a godsend man. Thank you
Thank you so much, glad I could help! 😀
As a very new Zerg player, I found myself constantly with too much larvae (especially when I learned how to inject) and got constantly supply blocked. Saying this video helped would be an understatement!
Awesome! Glad it helped and good luck with your games. 😊
I don't think this video could possibly be any better than as presented. EXCEPTIONAL, concise, and well shared tutorial. SO HELPFUL.
I am beyond impressed and grateful for this video. THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Thank you! 🙏
This video is helpful. Saw my uncle played starcraft 20 years ago. Was bored during the week then I randomly remembered about starcraft. Started playing it and kept getting destroyed in unranked.
Glad I could help! Good luck with the game and I hope you have fun 😀
Thanks for sharing, Mark! So happy to be able to help. Congrats on the gold placement, and good luck and have fun with your games!
Thank you! Good luck and have fun with the game :)
This is exactly what I've been looking for. Thank you for this vid. Finally something really useful to the start. Love the part of breaking down macros for each race and pointing out about not spamming workers to full right away. Great points, easy to understand, perfect for newcomers. Thank you once again.
Thank you so much! Glad you found it helpful :)
That’s awesome to hear, glad I could help :)
i love how you break things down and you dont make the viewer feel stupid i think thats key.. and its not overwhelming
Thanks! Glad I could help :)
Just getting back into starcraft 2 again after about a 7 year hiatus. Always sucked at multi-player, but been a huge fan since the first game. Hope to learn a lot
Thanks for stopping by, and good luck with the game! 😀
Man, you just motivated me to get back to the game and try again. I quit because I am used to sc broodwar, back in the day I was pretty good at it.. but sc2 seemed too confusing to me, now I have a much better understanding of the game thanks to you. This is top class content. Congratulations, you should have way more views
Thank you so much! Good luck with the game, hope you enjoy it! 😀
Obrigado! I'm glad the video helped you! :)
I played StarCraft as a child and now in 2023 I'm gonna learn StarCraft II. It's nostalgic and super challenging at the same time, but this video already helped me a LOT. thanks for the content, you're amazing
That's really cool to hear! Good luck and have fun with the game :)
I'm glad the community for this game is still active. I always wanted to return to it someday
Glad I could help and good luck with Ranked! 😀
Finally a tutorial which doesnt overwhelm me i will clearly trying playing sc2 now ngl kinda scary game to learn
Scary to play! I feel like I'm panicking trying to multitask all of these things at break neck speeds while simultaneously managing my foe's attacks and defenses!
Still, this video completely broke my losing streak! I'm so happy I found it!
Remember beginners it is always good to have a lot of scvs also known as workers so that u can expand ur command center to mineral patches and also remember use the keyboard don't just use mouse this is a rts game it requires microong units here another press a key to the gwneral direction of ur opponents army so that u wldnt need to micro by shooting 1 ship or unit by 1
How fast did you write this comment?
I played StarCraft 1 a ton, and have only now started getting into StarCraft 2. This was very helpful!
Glad I could help! 😀
i am starting SCII in 2022 for the first time on a whim, and i've watched some of your videos already and your enthusiasm rubs off on me
Awesome! Good luck with the game and have fun! :)
These videos are really amazing, I always wanted to learn an RTS game cause they seemed really cool but felt way to complicated and hard but this videos really puts them into a better perspective.
That’s awesome! Good luck with the game and have fun :)
Can't believe you only have 1.89K subscribers with videos this good
Thank you so much! That means a lot to me 😀
Learning shortcuts and hot keys was always my weaknesse i am a designer and i use a tool called figma and i struggle to learn hot keys but your videos made me learn how to do that in game and in my own work now I don't have problems with it thanks a ton
Awesome, so glad I could help out! :)
Thank you so much, that makes me happy to hear! 😀
“Stop playing against the AI go against real people. It’s all about the mind games.”
Ohh so that’s why he kept calling me a retard over and over again. It was all SCII mind games™ lol
Can't lose if your opponent leaves the game first 🤣
Meanwhile @32:32 he tells us to practice by playing a custom game against very easy AI...
Thank you for your kind words! :) Glad I could help, good luck with the game and have fun! Let me know if you have any questions.
I've studied skill acquisition, and this is the best instructional I've seen on the topic. This is precisely how to get good fast.
Thank you for the kind words! :)
1 min into the video and he already referred to his wife as a fool. I'm sold. Tonight I'm learning Starcraft with you! ^_^
This was hilariously useful, and I shared it a bit too. Thank you for making something so indispensable for the newer starcraft playerbase.
Thank you so much! I'm glad it was helpful.
2:40 wow I didn't even realize your video only has 5k views, seems professional so far. here's my comment, started playing yesterday and I hope I can beat my friends soon :P
Thank you! Good luck with your games! :)
Give me a update on that.
lol this vid got me back into playing sc2. Then I showed my friend the game and now he’s playing it. I’ll show him this video!
I've been playing starcraft for decades, and I underestimated a lot of the ideas you show here, tried it in one misson yesterday, and it's night and day!
That’s awesome! Glad I could help :)
I am 36, learning starcraft 2 for my boyfriend :) I can tell you, not only your wife understands the videos, I do too. Awesome content.
That's so cool, thanks for sharing! I'm glad I could help, and good luck with the game! Hope you guys have lots of fun :)
Used this to train for an ffa with my friends
Awesome! Good luck and have fun :)

You made me love StarCraft again, 23 years later. Thank you!!!
That's awesome! Good luck and have fun! 😀
This is literally the only good tutorial I could find on TH-cam, I didn’t believe this guy only has 6000 subscribers
Thank you so much! Glad I could help. 😀
How to get started with SC2: Make sure you aint there to have fun. We dont have fun in Sc2.
Terran? 🤣
That's the idea I'm getting so far. Still gonna try it out and suffer with my friend.
Tree races? I think you mean WC3, and they're called Night Elves.
😂
I like how stargates and robotics were completely ignored in the protoss part xdd
Who needs tech, right?! Seriously though, these principles are just for learning about macro, and I do encourage players to get Robotics Facilities and Stargates when they get comfortable with the basics. 😂

Oh yeah also great video
But the campaign are not free at most you know 2 race from wol and you need to learn zerg yourself
Good point! That's true 😃
This finally gave me the courage to start playing the game. I love watching tournaments and the lore of this game is so cool. Thank you for this series!
I commented on another of your videos to make this video. But now I see you’ve already made this video, I like it !

Complete Beginner here, 3 days into the game, this and the Hotkeys Tutorials are super helpful, easy to follow, and fairly simple. I went to practice and was able to reach 200 supply in 16 minutes as terran. Thanks for making videos like these!
I know this is old and whatnot BUT
I've been playing SC2 for almost a decade on and off. Legit never have touched PVP due to being scared of being destroyed.
This video gave me the confidence boost I needed to get out of the vsAI mines.
Today I just ranked up to Gold 2 and I'm very happy and satisfied with that achievement. For how small it might seen, it's a big deal for me ;w;
Thank you so much for this and the other guides they have all been really useful.
That's awesome! Glad I could help and glhf :)

Just started playing the game thx for the help bro👍❤️
Just started SC2 and it is my first RTS. This video seems to lay out the plan for beginners in an easy to understand way. Much better than the SC2 in game Tutorial. Thank you.
I waited a really long time to pick this game up. The last RTS I played was the original Starcraft in the 90's. I dig your videos, man. Cheers!
Thanks a lot! I hope you enjoy the game 😀

This has to be, by far the best explanatory video of SCII, I have ever seen
Thank you so much! That makes me really happy to hear! 😍
I played Red Alert and Age of Empires II practically on release, and have thousands of hours in RTS games.
And I really appreciate the video.
Just back into SC2 after 8 years. This video was huge for me. Thank you!!!
Thank you so much! It's so hard finding a guide in a reasonable speed. Starcraft 2 players think too fast my brain cant keep up
Lol I know that feeling! Glad I could help :)
Haven't played in over 10 years, so im watching this to get back into it. thanks in advance :)
Hope it helps! Good luck with the game and have fun :)
This has become my blueprint for becoming a better player in SCII. Thanks so much
I've been playing for almost a year. I was utter crap for that year. I am now wiping my canvas clear.
And I now hope that you keep pumping out content as good as this.
Haha good for you! Good luck with your games 😀
Brand new to SC but long time Warcraft III player and Rise of Nations player. Just played 5 or so games against bots last night with a friend who’s a long time veteran of the game. Can’t wait to put some of these tactics and basics into practice so we can start hopping into versus modes together. Really well made video!

Great work
