    Wonderful video - as always!
    You are so knowledgeable and well spoken, and your loyal audience is eternally grateful.
    The only thing I dislike is how few of us are viewing your extraordinary content.
    Will do my best to comment more to feed TH-cam algorithm !

      Oh thank you so much! That is such a wonderful compliment! I very much appreciate that. It really makes me want to make 100 more videos whether they get 100 views or 100000. It would be nice to get more views, but I know I am not doing all of the things necessary for that. I am pretty inconsistent with my posts and such, but hey, I really do this as a passion. Thank you so much again.

    I've been continuing my binge watching of your videos today, and I'm so glad you have a new video so I can comment (it feels odd commenting on a video you made a year ago). Anyway, it occurred to me that the difference between Whitby Jet and French jet or onyx is that the latter two shine, and Whitby jet has a luster or sheen. Thanks for another very informative video!

      Yay! Thank you! And don’t worry about commenting on old ones. I always try to answer any of them. I want to make content that holds up so people can look at them 10 years from now they will still be true and helpful. And yes!! The luster really is where it’s at. It’s so hard to conceptualize but once you’ve seen it, it’s so hard to go back. Thank you so much for your support and kind words.

    I just found you & learned a lot! So glad the use of Jet for mourning has passed. However, I would enjoy a piece of Jet in my jewelry collection if I come across it. At least I can spot what isn’t Jet!

    i am overjoyed to find your channel, so nice to see a young lady who is interested in Whitby jet
    i have some antique Victorian beads and some modern Navajo beads, they are so lovely and light to wear
    i cant help but wonder where did all of Queen Victoria's pieces go? i mean she was a widow for 40 years, that's a lot of jewellery wearing when one is a Queen of a great empire
    Could someone not take a rummage through the back of the Windsor vault and maybe wear them on suitable occasions like Rememberence day or for funnerals, seems such a waste to have it just sitting there unworn

      Thank you! Yes, I love so many things, but history is something I just swoon over, and to combine that with jewelry it is so fascinating to me. - Wouldn't it be nice to see those. I do know that a lot of her pieces were bequeathed because they were considered personal and not state owned so she could give them away, but it would be nice to know where all those smaller pieces that others would consider insignificant went. Oh, the stories behind them, and how lovely they could be with the right outfit.

    Just curious....they didn't happen to make buttons out of jet too did they?? I've got a strange assortment of vintage buttons that includes some blackish colored ones, seems like they would go on an over coat rather than a shirt because of their size. Hmmmm. Thank you for another great video!!!

    • @OlivesVintageMarket
      @OlivesVintageMarket  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Well they actually did make Jet buttons. I wish I could make 10 hour long videos over these things, lol. While I have a lot of good info to impart I also like to make sure I am being as accurate and up to date as possible. When I am doing to research to make sure I come across the most interesting things. One thing was actually about buttons believe it or not. Honestly the easiest way to tell just by a quick look is to see if the shank is embedded into the material or glued on. It is not possible to inlay shanks into the jet. So if it is embedded it will be something else, but it will not be jet. Almost every other black material around that time could have things either embedded, screwed, inlaid findings, but Whitby jet always had its findings glued to it. It is still true today. You could always send me a picture in an email and I would be happy to take a look for you. I hope this helps!
