Is Whitby jet be hard and brittle, like stone? I just received an ebay cameo with a whitby shell frame, and when I tap it on my teeth, it seems to be soft like plastic. Shouldn't it be brittle, like the shell cameo or a rock?

no its like wood soft really but stoney

Rub it on sand paper, if it leaves a brown mark it's real and not fake plastic
