You know, I liked this episode, I thought it was good. But I didn't like it as much as last weeks episode. It also felt much shorter this time around. So it's really pissing me off that people say "oh the new crystal gems was just a filler episode" but then the same people will say "oh storm in the room is NO WAY a filer episode." To those people, I say "THERE IS NO FILLER! BOTH EPISODES WHERE POWERFUL AND NO WHERE NEAR FILLER!" Sorry, I just had to get that out of me.

Slobertooth 13 I'm super confused, wtf is a filler episode
Slobertooth 13 Okay. I won't argue but I will tell you why I think The new cgs is filler and storm in the room is not. First of all the new cgs was an episode that is forgettable and doesn't deal with the plot. It basically shows the crystal temps trying to impersonate the real cgs. You could skip over it and still know the full story. While I do get that you will point out character development between lapis and peridot, this episode was not needed to develop their characters and they could have had the same character development in a more meaningful episode. It also failed many people's expectations including mine and I didn't even have high hopes. The worst that couls happen was the crystal temps fighting a corrupted monster but it was just taking over a car wash. While I was not emotional throughout storm in the room (I don't cry over cartoons), this episode was a meaningful episode. We got to see Rose quartz, at least partially necause it isn't the real rose, who helped make Steven and basically the show happen. We got to see the interactions between Steven and Rose. We got to see Steven vent his frustration at his mother but then realize that his mom was not trying to avoid problems but that she cared for him. We got a lot of major Steven character development. Even though we didn't get the answers we wanted or people's expectations were ruined for not seeing PD, storm in the room was more emotional, more exciting and interesting, and will probably serve a far greater purpose in the story than the new crystal gems. Sorry for the long paragraphs. Please don't hate it is just my opinion.
Jesus Ramos Filler episodes are episodes that do not contribute to the plot/story or character development. It is basically an episode you don't need to watch but you can still get the gist of the story without it.
What surprised me is when Steven said he wanted to dye his hair pink. I WAS LIKE "OH MA GURD YAAASSS"

Around 5:30, I realized that Rose's room like having a mental roleplay where you make up a character - name, background, and everything - to interact with. In your head, you're in a detailed room with this person and you talk, play, fight, or whatever it is you need at that time to help you either escape or cope with what's going on in your life. It's the kind of thing I did before computers became a thing, which is when I started putting it into word and - more or less - creating a story. It helps, and that's what I'm starting to think these rooms for all the characters are: a place where you can be on your own with yourself to reflect and withdraw to. The only difference here is that they can bring a person inside so he or she can see what they see.
Steven mentioned earlier in the episode to Connie that the gems were helping to set up the new sign on the car wash- so they weren't just getting pizza that whole time?
It was needed because they can be a little disorganized plus we didn't see lapis or peridot come back to the temple with the crystal gems so I'm going to assume they were basically like "here's your sign, bye!" Besides that they probably had to wait for Greg to change and wait for the pizza etc etc. anyway I love your videos and watch them all the time
I figured it was just an easy way for them to explain the gems away for a little while Steven hung out with Connie. Although they could've been talking amongst themselves, and if so, I hope we see it.
Maybe Garnet saw on her future vision that Steven needed time with Rose and resolve things on his own, so she bought some time on with Greg and the gems until Steven was finally ready
What if Rose can actually communicate through the room, its her gem, and it was her room. If this was actually the case then that would explain why she was able to hang out with him and talk to him like the way she did
if Rose was completely the room then wouldn't the same thing happen like it did with Peridot.
Remember what Rose said, they can't both exist, it means they can't physically exist. What if this room is the way Steven can talk to his mom. Maybe this room has way more importance than we think, Idk weird theory ig

i was thinking exactly this!!!!! and nobody was saying it, how i see the physicality of steven and hus gem is, its roses gem, but she cant make a physical form of light because her gem is engulfed in, well steven.... stevens body is a human body so light wouldnt ve able to travel through that physical (skin) barrier. but i feel like her form manifests in his mind and in his dna... as if hes a somewhat fusion... idk i cant explain it 😂😂😂😂

I really loved this episode. being a mother it struck a cord in me, cause I'm always worried that my son would ever feel this way. damn episode tore my heart out and stomped on it. :, (
I don't see why this episode is getting hate. It was such a great moment for Steven
So not too many people seem to have caught the part where Steven said the gems were putting up the sign at the car wash... And I truly don't understand what everybody's obsession with the rubies is about, the diamonds are coming regardless, the rubies are a non factor.
If the Diamonds find the rubies first, The Intel about Rose and Steven will be exposed, causing a possible change of plan for the Diamonds which may not be great for the Gems. Homeworld have too many advantages; adding extra Intel about the Crystal Gems might be a final nail in the coffin for our heroes.
Artisticexpression well I mean they're going to come across Steven and the gems regardless, and I'm sure Steven using his shield or sword will be an instant dead giveaway.
The element of surprise is the only advantage they (Crystal Gems) have; They can use this time to prepare and train. With the Diamonds KNOWING WHO THEY ARE BEFORE HAND, could spell doom. Remember, the first Steven bomb episode when GARNET WAS HORRIFIED BY HER FUTURE VISION OF BLUE DIAMOND SEEING HER WITH STEVEN, which she why she begged him not to go to Pink's Palanquin. Exposing yourself to your enemy before you are prepared to face them is a suicide mission.

The Gems and Greg were hanging the new car wash sign Connie/Peridot/Lapis/Pumpkin Dog made. They brought the pizza over when they were done and it was perfect timing because Steven was reminded he has them 💖
The series has progressed to be less "ZomgRose!!!!!!!!!!!" and has shown the Gems caring more about Steven proper. They're protecting him, his feelings. Not just because they think he's "Rose" or will turn back in to her :)

Yes the pizza not being pepperoni was also an allegory. Steven will never have the normal childhood with his mother around, but that's alright because what he has is perfect. Ala the pizza being mushroom instead of pepperoni.
I think also it was an excuse for Steven to dwell in his own mind enough to enter the room. Steven needed the introspection and if the gems or Greg were around it wouldn't have been as affective.
I think you missed the part when Steven said they were putting up the new sign and the fact the gems are bad with human technology.

in the beginning steven said they were fixing the sign remember
Idk about y'all, but the whole episode felt a little unsettling to me. Seeing him and Rose together was really sweet, but knowing that it's not real, especially with the one scene where Steven tries to take a picture but nothing is there, just made the whole thing feel a bit odd. Previous episodes in Steven's Room have been notoriously creepy, and this was definitely the least disturbing of them (upon second watching I thought it was really cute) but I still felt weird watching this episode. It felt like there was a lot still unresolved by the end, which is probably why the episode felt so unsettling for me. But it was still a great episode ^^ I especially loved the storm scene, and the part where it started raining and one of the raindrops mixed with his tears was absolutely beautiful.
I saw a comment on another video that the pepperoni represented rose and the mushrooms represented Greg. but that pepperoni rant was hilarious.
always love your videos, your interpretations are pretty on point which makes me want to come see your take on it after each new release. They make sense and the facts support each other and am excited for more videos from you in the future.

Right around 2:30 ish when you talked about connie and Dr. Mihaeshwarren's trust developing it just gave me the feels and i actualky started crying to my mom about how proud i was for these two characters of which she knows nothing about, but my mom and i both started crying because we love eachother. So thank you :) such a minute sequence of words had the power to overcome a child and his mother's real life emotion :) I don't know wgat to say other than thank you so much... even though it was really chedsy that she and i cried over that sentence, thank you :) :)

I can only imagine what went through Stevens head in this episode. Losing my own mother this last year I would do just about anything to walk into a room and embrace her again. Of course I did have 23 years with my mother where as Steven never knew his other than through stories. I just have to say I had to pause this episode twice because I was crying to hard to watch.

When Steven picks up his phone and sees nothing but himself, my heart just broke... Steven is such a strong little man, and it kills me to see him in pain. And the amount of pain he's been shouldering his entire life just destroys my soul. Steven deserves to be happy. GENUINELY HAPPY!!! And I do agree with you Papa Slice, Greg and the gems need to be 100% honest with Steven about EVERYTHING!!! He deserves the whole truth, and he deserves to be able to TALK about his feelings with them without fear of judgement or pity. Great video man, keep up the great work! :D

the room has time distortion that's why the first time he went into the room it was still night and he's only been there for a day the time in the rims off basically so the whole time of his mom probably like 20 minutes but the him it could have been an hour
I mention our use only there for an hour but it was still night and the same day
Oh my goodness you should have mentioned the part where he questions his existence, he says something like,"IS THAT THE ONLY REASON IM HERE?!", that was so emotional

I think that rose was speaking through the room because when the room created connie she couldn't suggest anything and only wanted to know what Steven wanted but here Rose actually tried to help seven with her own point of view, just like when room-Connie suddenly started acting independent and trying to get Steven to confess his feelings bout the book to Connie.
'I recognize that another part of the excuse for the gems being gone was them setting up the new car wash sign. But you have to recognize that Garnet is extremely strong, and Peridot can lift an entire truck with her metal manipulation. So this is a pretty weak excuse... Bring back my kids :)' Well, you need to realize that the gems aren't necessarily acquainted with all the work that goes into connecting cables and what not when it comes to 'human technology', not that it's a good enough excuse still, but it could help; I did really like your idea about the gems talking with Greg about... stuff, I see it as very good material for the next episode (I'm completely oblivious to whatever it will be, don't know if clips or plots have been leaked), a progressive return to Beach City and sort of aftermath of the Steven Bomb, getting back into pace. And I read some comment about Steven's comment on the mushroom pizza being a metaphor for how he embraced his childhood for what it was even if it was supposed to follow a stereotype of sorts, supposed to 'have pepperoni', but there are some vague idea drafts floating about my mind that it had to do with Steven's experience with Rose, the word 'perfect'... The tone he spoke it in, how gentle and innocent it was, yet somehow loving too, just like something Rose would've said: now I'm not saying it was Rose speaking from within him or anything, lol, but rather Steven's subconscious way of referencing his mom? I uh... Again, rather vague, probably wronged, but I thought it was interesting! (PD: Sorry in advance for the hu-mongous comment, somewhat new to the channel, hi!)

I think I been watching to many Steven Universe theory video, because when I saw Greg come with the pizza with no pepperonis. The first thing I thought was, is the Crewniverse trying to send SliceofOtaku a secret message that no Home World Rubies.
They were putting up Greg's sign thats why they were all together and took so long to get back home

Anyway, I think it's not a filler. It gives us some character development and it's amazing. Steven realizes how he feels about Rose now. The room itself gave him what he wanted - to see Rose. And his feelings change throughout it as he realizes it.
And he got pizza after putting up the sign. I thought it was really funny x'D

I absolutely loved this episode, it made me cry and hit me right in the feels :) As for the Rubies, there have been times where the Gems haven't been very bright but I imagine that they could have been talking to Greg about being in the human zoo, since he was there longer then Steven and maybe they used this opportunity to get info out of Greg while he was away from Steven but another thing I want to point out that nearly everyone is missing:
Greg was abducted and just got back with Steven, they encountered the Diamonds and escaped. Now during all of that panic and rushing, would they stop to try and grab the Rubies? No, of course not because they forgot.
Yes I want the Rubies to come back too but you need to understand the situation and let's be honest, we've all been in situations where we've forgotten about something pretty dang important and didn't recall it until later when things have calmed down and that's what I expect will happen here.
Steven's just dealt with his Mum issues and nearly losing his dad, once he properly calmcs down, he's going to remember the Rubies, panic and talk to the Gems about going out and retrieving them because not only is it pretty important that they do that but that would make for an interesting or funny episode.
Tracking down all 5 Rubies in space and then keeping them restrained, Steven may even try to ask them questions about the war or even Rose Quartz(yes I believe he will since none of the Gems have been completely honest with Steven yet and it still feels like they're keeping some important stuff from him) and maybe even try to be friends with Eyeball despite trying to take his gem/kill him.
Another thing is we haven't seen Lion in a good while so I think we're due for a Lion episode soon since he seems pretty important and he hasn't been explained yet(as have a lot of things but still) about his connection to Rose.
But again, I think once Steven has properly cleared his head, he'll remember the Rubies and want to go get them.

i haven't cried this hard during an episode of steven universe since on the run. as soon as steven said "i want to see my mom" i just fucking lost it and i still haven't stopped. my mom died in july 2016 and i've thought that same thing every day since then, and when steven put his head on rose's knee it just made it ten times worse because when my mom would sit on her arm chair, i'd sit on the floor in front of her and put my head on her knee. this episode cut deep, man

The room is base on what Steven pictures of rose.Some of the actions rose did in the room was rose. But Steven realizes that part of the reason he feels bad because rose is part of him now.and he has to fix her mistakes.
This was the turning point for Steven's entire character. He finally faced his mother and got over his internal struggles about why she left everyone and made him. He came out of that room a changed person, and in future episodes we're gonna see a brand new, empowered Steven.
This episode was also pretty existential when he was going off at Rose. With lines like "Am I just here so you can hide from the mess you made?!", this episode really dives into the emotional baggage Steven has been piling up, things we've only seen the surface level of in episodes like Mindful Education. I thought the episode was going to go to a really dark place when he said, "I've even thought about dyeing my hair pink." I thought he was about to say, "... dying so you could come back."
This was a very emotionally powerful episode, and I loved it. The Peanuts gag was fun, and so was Cloud Rose's speech about how 'all sports are unique'. I love how Steven imagines Rose said everything like an emotional speech.
I also thought the gems were gone getting the Rubies, so when I saw Greg and the pizza I laughed a little because I knew SliceofOtaku was gonna be pissed. Did they really have to add in the "no pepperoni" line? Isn't that hitting the nail on the head a bit?

I thought they took so long because they were helping put up Greg's new sign. Remember Steven's light bulb analogy? That fits in better with putting up a sign than just getting pizza.
Can I just say that the picture with Greg eating a hot dog next to a shut eyed Rose can actually be Greg taking a selfie in-front of the Rose portrait since both pictures have Rose doing the exact same pose ...hmmmmmm?????

Otaku, man, you gotta let those Rubies go. At this point I think they're doing this because they're low-key stalking your video and know you're upset over them. They sure knew how badly people wanted Jasper to be redeemed, and look what happened to her...
Also, I think the Room!Rose is anther case like Room!Greg, where it's a near-complete recreation because the room's creator and former owner, Rose, knew so much about the person being recreated. I think definitely the atmosphere in the room and certain things Rose chose to say were influenced by what Steven felt, but in a way I also have a hard time shaking the feeling that this was more than just Steven talking to an imaginary Rose. It really, genuinely felt like the closest thing to a ghost of Rose that we can get in this show.
And I also can't help but wonder if maybe her reminder about the tape - and her question and Steven's answer regarding whether or not he thought she had lied about wanting him to exist and experience being a human - might have had a shade or two of "exact words," and if Room!Rose didn't somehow avoid completely and/or honestly answering Steven's concern about being her escape by steering him to an answer he wanted to hear instead. She definitely didn't offer any answers about Bismuth, Pink Diamond, Lion, or any other secrets we know she kept from people very close to her, or even any answers about why she chose to have Steven at all - and not just how she ultimately felt about giving him life.
I have an odd theory about the "Video game secret ending" aspect of the room. I don't know if it's important enough to follow up, I'm not even expecting credit for thinking this way. This is how I see it, Steven was being distracted while watching the ending the first time but his subconscious mind still was able to pick up it in parts. What the room was able to setup was his logical mind filling in the gaps of what he did see/hear even if it was subconscious. The room seems to be capable of bringing things into a much sharper focus if he wills it hard enough. Which makes me love the idea of "Tiny Whale" I've often wondered if he can take aspects of the room back out into the real world or no. Ahh well. Enough rambling, Still a great show, Yours and Ms Sugars.

i just thought the pizza was something they brought back after putting up greg's new sign and that took so long because as steven said you should see how many of them it takes to screw in a lightbulb
I think the "white film" you see on Steven's skin is not milk, but the sheen of refracted light coming from the water coating his skin. The entire house is lit up, and since all of the features are primarily illuminated from above, then the light is being refracted back up towards the viewer--which happens to be almost at a bird's eye perspective (above angle). That could be speculation, since usually you don't see a brilliant sheen come from water unless light is reflecting directly across the surface of the water depending on the angle (imagine a sunset, or a metaphorical-hydroplane in terms of light), but that's my take from it.
I can kinda relate to Steven. I didn’t grow up with my mom, just my dad. But all my life I grew up believing that my mom was this wonderful, beautiful, kindhearted and down to earth and level headed person. She lived in the southern American states and I live in the north so it was hard to see her very often. Once every few years at most. She came up north with my stepdad and 2 brothers and lived here for a few years. I found that all I had thought of my mom was wrong. She was unstable, chaotic and destructive. I became more aware of the flaws she possessed and why she and my dad split up years ago and her mistreatment of my one brother compared to the other and the loss of my baby brother at 3 years old and her self inflicted pain and her destruction of everything around her. I get to the point where I’m ashamed to have even been born and I begin to loathe myself like how I loathe my mother. But then there are times where I feel like I have to console and protect her because I love her. I know she cares about me and I know she has mental issues and I just have to try and become a better person than she is now. She is in a better place however which makes me happy but also indifferent. Steven feeling conflicted about his mom and trying to cope with his mothers mistakes. Sorry I kinda vented in a TH-cam comment section oof.
The peanuts reference with the football really hit me by surprise, it was so on the nose as well. Well, maybe it isn't really on the nose when kids watch it because they never watched peanuts. But as much as I laughed like crazy because of it, it felt out of place.
They were gone 4 so long because garnet knew the he needed this so she made shore that he wasn't interrupted future vision

This episode was amazing, the issue with the rubies still bothers me and I guess they took a while putting up the new sign at the car wash and then... had to wait in line for a really long time to get a pizza.
*"Why would you want to be here? What do you ever, see here!? That doesn't make you feel worse than you do.."* I dunno 'bout you, but those lines remind me of the room.
The reason the gems and Greg were gone for a long time was because they were trying to set up the sign that lapis and peridot made while everyone was gone in space, then they had a wait in a long line for pizza.
I think that there is something of Rose's backup memories in that room like how she talked about sports and what she told him at the end I think it was real. Thanks for the video,

I really related to Steven in this episode. My mom left me when I was pretty young, so seeing my friends who have good relationships with their moms does get to me.
You know looking at this episode I do agree in the sense that the Rose we met in the room was very life-like. This prompted me to think, is that the real Rose being projected through Steven? They are one in the same person, who is to say to some degree Steven's subconcious isn't a part of Rose herself and thus she can also project her wants and desires into the room. For her to almost argue with Steven after his emotional outburst it makes me think back to the first encounter with the room. Anyone else think it's odd that the pink whale (who undeniably sounded like Rose) asked Steven what he wanted after the room crashed? Like a subconscious? It's as if the whale wasn't simply just a part of the room but apart of Steven's subconscious being projected thus possibly, Rose being projected into the room. One can argue that the more Steven knows about a person the easier it is for the room to mimic that like with Greg before the room was overwhelmed. But what really made me think was, Steven has NEVER met rose. True he has heard ton of stories about her and true at the beginning of the episode her verbal responses seemed like something that the room would produce, but can we really discount the possibility that Rose can also hold some sort of power over what she wants within the room? The life-likeness to Rose could have possibly been indeed Rose using what amount of influence she had on the room made Rose. Her final words to Steven were her almost arguing to Steven about why she did indeed want him in the world for pure reasons. Sure it could have been Steven inadvertently arguing with himself but the possibility still remains.
I don't know I am so sorry if I sound like a lunatic but this episode just really got me thinking.. I would some input! Am I just crazy or am I standing on some sort of ground?
I really like this episode. This was so subtle when he hug her and rain drop end up under his eye. And I think that are his own thought - he understand it's not true, but he still is unhappy to think that his birth cause her to die. So he have to forgive himself in moments like that for never knowing his mother.
As for pizza. I'm sure most of us agree that while, this pizza miss important part that they love, it's perfect as something new and different.
Greg and the gems were also hanging the new car wash sign and the gems don't know how to use screws.
perhaps steven's game was simple and formulaic enough that the room could predict the ending based on what he knew even if he couldn't
I've watched this episode several times because I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I don't think The New Crystal Gems was a filler episode, but this one is CLEARLY not either.
When I started watching Steven Universe, I was also studying by my own how the brain works and, specifically, how it works when both brain hemispheres get isolated by cutting the connections between them for old epilepsy treatments. It showed how humans have two people with different likings, dislikings and personality, and how the left side of the brain became aware of this when the right side of the brain, incapable of communicating, starts manipulating its side of the body to contradict left brain's orders.
When I saw this, I was shocked. Because if two people can live in someone's head without that someone noticing, and even more, conform an entire being, what about Steven? He has literally Rose's brain inserted in his body. And we know it's tied to his emotions, because that's exactly how his powers work, so Rose's gem is attached to his brain too. This means Rose can't comunicate through Steven's brain but can still manage to have some control over what happens in her room, because it's still hers. So my theory is it was actually her pretending to be an imitation of what the room has always shown Steven, but couldn't help but getting mad when Steven started his rant against her. Even more, I think all the episodes in which we see things actually happening in the room, it's Rose controlling every thing that happens by Steven's desire. She just wants to give her son what he wants and help him grow as a person, as we see when the evil Connie forced him to open up with his feelings towards Connie. And we have even seen another gem communicating via objects when she was trapped and linked to them: Lapis. So, I think Rose's room might be to Rose what Lapis' mirror is to Lapis: the communicating device they need to send simple messages.
And for those people who will ask me "why if Rose is actually controlling the room doesn't she show Steven what she did?", I'm saying: he may be not ready yet. Whether she shattered Pink Diamond, and how, and if she actually did it or not, will remain as a mistery if it comes to Rose's judgement. Steven still needs to find more answers before he knows how things happened.
Also, Rose knows Steven knows Rose couldn't shatter Pink Diamond. Rose NEVER used the Breaking Point, which was the only means she had to do such thing.

I'm pretty sure that Garnet made the suggestion to get the pizza. Because she knew that when Steven got out that he'd benefit from support from people he loved (hence everyone arriving at the same time, I think Garnet coordinated it).
It took so long for the others to show up, cause they were putting the sign up. Steven stated this in the beginning when Connie was saying how she wanted to say bye to them.
I kinda like how In the episode Steven didn't actually talk to his mom because I feel like other kids growing up with a deceased parent can relate to it because in the end you can't bring them back and you end up dealing with yourself and your own emotions
About the gems getting pizza...maybe that had something to do with Garnet's future vision? Maybe she saw Steven get upset and suggested it to cheer him up? He sure needed it.

So, they were actually out helping greg with putting up the sign. Steven talked about it at the beginning of the episode. I was definitely upset about the lack of concern about the Rubies too though.
You have to remember they had to set up the sine and it wasn't to to long before it was night time. and it took just Pearl a few days to fix a vehicle. so you do have to factor in getting the sine up there, getting it bolted down, electrical wiring hooked up, then, then KoKeys Pizza is farther from the car wash then the house is. Then I. think they make there pizzas by hand
I think the white in the illustration is the way they can show shine, he is probably in a brightly lit room and with him being wet he is shiny
