WPL C24 brushless - too fast!

  • I installed a brushless motor in my C24 and it´s fast! Actually a little too fast to handle. The motor I use is a Racerstar 2435 4500 kv, bought in combo with 25 amp esc. It´s mounted to a simple metal gearbox from URUAV with a pinion gear I took from a MN 260 motor. It´s a fun experiment but it´s useless in terrain and generally hard to control. Next step will be to try a brushed 390 motor, lower the center of gravity and widen the stance to hopefully make it more driveable. This brushless motor will fit right into a WPL 2 speed gearbox so that is another upcoming experiment.
    Edit: A link to version number 2 of the same truck, handles much better: • WPL C24 race trail truck

    • @Georgieframe
      @Georgieframe  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, a 370 is possible, but I wouldn´t recommend it. The gearing is very high and the motor can easily overheat. I used a 390 brushed motor and it got so hot that the plastic fan melted and the motor collapsed.

    • @Georgieframe
      @Georgieframe  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@harpritsingh1882 The brushless might be a better option than a brushed motor. I guess the 1400 kv motor will have lots of torque and might not be so hot, but it might not be so fast either. You don´t know ´til you´ve tried it... 😎😎

      @@Georgieframe when the motor changed to the two speed 370 motor, then how to shift the speed by the original controller?

    • @Georgieframe
      @Georgieframe  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@robingo6257 It`s not possible to change speed with the original ready-to-run 2-channel radio. You need a WPL V3 controller and receiver board or another radio with at least 3 channels. I mostly use Austar AX5 3-channel radio, which works very well and is often sold together with the WPL 2-speed gearbox. If you use another radio you also need a separate esc!

      @@Georgieframe then if i dont choose the controller, is it possible to shift the speed by manual?

    • @Georgieframe
      @Georgieframe  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@robingo6257 Yes, it´s possible, but a little tricky. The gear lever is springloaded, so it is automatically put into high gear. The servo press the gearlever into low gear and holds it there when you shift to low gear. When you shift to high gear the servo releases the gearlever and it moves into high gear by the pressure of the spring. You can manually press the lever into low gear but then you must lock it there in some way. One solution could be to remove the spring (a coil spring), then you can freely move the gearshiftlever between high and low. But you still must find a way to lock the lever in high or low position, otherwise it will skip gear when you drive.

    • @Georgieframe
      @Georgieframe  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hello! As you don´t tell which gearbox you will mount the motor on I can´t tell for sure. But: To mount a 28 series motor (28 millimeter diameter) with 3.175 mm shaft on a WPL 2-speed gearbox, or any WPL gearbox, is complicated as the mounting holes probably doesn´t fit without modification and the shafts diameter is bigger than the normal WPL motor. It´s easier to mount for example a 2435 (which is what I use) with 2 mm shaft. Then you can pull the stock pinion from the stock motor and press it on the shaft of the 2435, then mount the motor on the gearbox. It usually works fine, especially on the 2-speed gearbox.

      Hi! All WPL cars have closed diffs. As a fact, they don´t have diffs at all, just an axle and a ring gear, both front and rear. Same goes for the MN cars. They handle well, I think, even when they are a little hotted up. I guess it´s because of the small size. 1:10 scale crawlers also work fine with locked diffs, which is a must in rough terrain, but I have also hade the experience that a faster 1:10 scale car with a locked diff (happened accidently, the diff broke) became impossible to steer at speed. So different cars simply behave in different ways. Open, locked or adjusted with diff oil, it depends on the purpose, and testing will tell what is the best.

    im the beginner, i want upgrade my wpl c24 what motor shall i buy?

    • @Georgieframe
      @Georgieframe  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello! Well, it´s a little hard to answer that question straight and simple. It depends on how you want your c24 to act. Slow? Fast? Crawling? Trail driving? I guess (only guess!) you have bought a ready to run car with radio/esc all in one unit. In that case you can´t just buy another motor, you must change motor and gearbox. Some think the 260 motor/gearbox unit for MN99 is an upgrade. It´s faster and it´s strong enough if you don´t drive in the most difficult crawling situations. www.banggood.com/RBRC-260-Gear-Box-For-MN-99S-96-90-45-112-RC-Car-Parts-p-1588715.html?cur_warehouse=CN&rmmds=search
      You should also buy the gearfloorbox to hold the motor: www.banggood.com/RBRC-260-Gear-Box-Floor-For-MN-96-90-45-112-RC-Car-Parts-p-1588723.html?cur_warehouse=CN&rmmds=search
      Another option is to buy a 370 motor with reduction gearbox and transfercase. With this the car will be very strong but also very slow: www.banggood.com/Upgraded-Metal-Transfer-Gear-Case-with-370-Motor-For-WPL-1-or-16-4WD-6WD-JJRC-Q60-Q61-Black-p-1437668.html?rmmds=detail-topright-recommendation&cur_warehouse=CN&ID=227
      The best upgrade is, in my opinion, a 2-speed gearbox with 370 motor. It gives both speed and very good crawling ability:
      www.banggood.com/WPL-Speed-Change-Gear-Box-For-WPL-B1-B24-B16-B36-C24-JJRC-Q65-1-or-16-4WD-6WD-Rc-Car-p-1305526.html?cur_warehouse=CN&rmmds=search
      But then you will also have to change the radio and esc, as you need a third channel to shift gears. If you buy an esc with 40 or 60 amps you can even use 3s lipos. It makes the car really strong and fast!
      Good luck!

      @@GustavoGonzalez-im5dr I don´t really know how much torque the 2030 will have. The only thing you can do to find out is to try it. My experience is with 2435 which is a little bigger - 24 mm wide, 35 mm long. I´ll give a link to video with my MN99 with that motor on 2-speed gearbox. It shows climbing, crawling and speed run, so you can see how it performs. Another thing you can do to get more power from the brushed 370 is to use a 3s batteri, if your esc can handle it. Any 35 - 40 amp or more esc usually can. Link:

      Thank you Carl! Actually, I have thought about the gyro. I may use it, we´ll se! And I´ll try to make it handle also low speed. Next challenge!

      @@Georgieframe if you can adjust your punch on your ESC that could help ✌

      @@jasonwetere5631 Yes, I guess it could. But I solved the problem with a small rebuild 😎: th-cam.com/video/WxgsD2Ns08I/w-d-xo.html
