    I know your obviously a Vallejo painter, but have you tried at least test painting with Army Painters speedpaints as I'd be very interested to see what you could do with them as I noticed that your painting technic is how you'd handle speedpaints already aka the slap chop method. Would be interested in your thoughts on these popular paints. 😁👍

      @DonSuratos  ปีที่แล้ว

      IF ever I do paint with Army Painter speed paints sir... I would only upload it at Patreon and not in public. I am afraid I only paint with Vallejo and oil paints here ( publicly ). I hope you understand. 😊 However, I do like to try speed paints, even the reactivating thing intriques me, since it will act like oil paints. Meaning it is fun to blend. Honestly I do not understand why people / painters have an issue with reactivating. Weird. Reactivating sounds good to me as a glaze paint... since you can blend like oils, without theneed for minieral spirits. Slap what? 😅

    • @EliteC64
      @EliteC64 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DonSuratos I understands makes sense. Slap chop is a stupidity named newish method for noobie Painters when using speed paints which is uses to get the minis on the table super quick. I menshoned it as your priming method here is exactly whats used in it.

    If they are a contrast equivalent I would happily make the switch if they are just more consistant accross the range.
    The contrast paint range has a big issue with consistancy throughout the range, some are like a wash some are a heavily pigmented and dont have the contrast effect and some work as intended.
    It takes time to learn which paint behaves in which way.
    Look forward to the review Don.

    • @DonSuratos
      @DonSuratos  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Dave, I kinda like the old Contrast Paints to be honest. I have handful sent by one of my clients. But I have NO idea with the new contrast paints, since I was planning to buy a few, then I read reviews like yours about their consistency. I even see samples that have zero contrast ( too pigmented ) over zenithal underpainting. I hope Vallejo's is better, or else! Or else will go back to my Vallejo inks, transparent paints or even oils. 😅

    Colours like Plaguebearer Flesh, Flesh Tearers Red and Tallasar Blue I use mostly through my airbrush. Others like Wyldwood or Snakebite Leather I use through the brush.
    I find that the Citadel's Contrast line works best when you ignore GW's guides and simply experiment with each of them on your own.
    There are issues with the fact they're called Contrast but paints like Baal Red have no contrast because they cover so well over everything.
    If Vallejo puts out a line that is either consistent with all paints via brush application or perfectly thin to add layers through the airbrush or both of these features in one, then yeah, it's interesting.
    At this point, every company is trying to make their own Speedpaints. I like options.

    • @DonSuratos
      @DonSuratos  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Finally Vallejo is entering the speed paints market bro. I love doing zenithal with the dry brush and I paint with Vallejo inks and transparent paints. I have handful of contrast paints and almost bought speed paints and dipping inks... but now, I will eagerly wait for Vallejo's "contrast paints". Should be good. But I hope they act differently than the old inks. Thanks for your comment, I now have contrast paint list to shop soon. 😅

      @@DonSuratos I used your Glaze tutorial with the Ironjaw (many - many thanks for that), but switches out the yellow for Iyanden Yellow (with brush) to much the same effect. Skips the need to glaze and has a nice yellow/orange look.
      That's another to add if you're looking for a speedpaint. The new yellows (haven't bought any of them) also look good, but I don't have any uses for so much yellow.
      Vallejo will come out on top if they only keep the prices of these paints the same as the rest of their range. While Contrasts are great for the most part, they're expensive. At least for me they are.

    • @DonSuratos
      @DonSuratos  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@simplereviews7069 Oh great! I have the Fuegan Orange and Casandora shades, they feel like dilluted Vallejo inks actually. I can be wrong, but Citadel washes in general feels like dilluted inks. I agree with the pricing! Super bias here but you get the most value for money with Vallejo Colors. And yes I find Citadel's so expensive too. 😊

    • @simplereviews7069
      @simplereviews7069 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DonSuratos I use the washes sparingly. Most tutorials auto-include washes, but I'd rather use oils or airbrushed Contrast in most cases.
      I use Seraphim Sepia more than any other because skulls and Death Guard.
      Cassandora is nice for a vomitous skin tone. Even that one I dilute over zenithal because it's quite strong for a skin wash.
      I like Carroburg Crimson in theory. It leaves coffee stains if applied over flat surfaces (which looks terrible) and flat surfaces are mostly what I would want to use it for. I could fix it with a medium, maybe, but that defeats the purpose to me of it being a speedpainting medium.

    personally im excited about them. i ahev a few contrast paints i love using through an airbrush and im hopeful the paints were similar. i didnt buy into the "speed paints" line via army painter cause of ppl talking about the issues with reactivation of the paints (meaning you have to varnish to move to the next step). vallejo are ment to be reformulating the game color range too (new formula, new packaging etc). Angel is ment have gotten some samples of it to do videos about it. and with the gentleman that does the "Eavy metal contrast" videos helping make these it could be an awesome competitor to contrast

    • @DonSuratos
      @DonSuratos  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am excited and curious at the same time. Will the Express Colors act like dilluted inks or something else? Will they act like transparent paints with glaze medium? Or worst like the Game washes, thinned down paints with mediums that are too weak. Really curious how they are when brush painted. Angel most likely spear headed the development of the Express Paints, note that he is not known as a speed painter. Nor has he even painted a whole army ( I could be wrong ). That in itself makes me curious on how these new paints will compare to the contrast paints. The Game Color, I think it could be more matte. I am not a Game Color painter, as I prefer Model Colors most of the time though. Coverage of the Model Colors are mostly better than the old Game Colors. We shall see. 😊🎨🎨🎨

    I think in terms of speed/contrast paints, the devil is in the details. As it stands today, Citadel has about 27 contrast paints and A.P. has about 24 speed paints. I don't know how many Vallejo plans to release, but I hope they beat or match them, at least. Just like speed paints, I want an agitator in the bottle at purchase. I like the contrast paints, but I hate pots, and I hate transferring them over to older used paint bottles and adding an agitator. Just my preference.

    Iam a forever-novice painter and vallejo paints hoarder (have 250+). As for logo, I do not like it as much, since it is more "modern", and in paints in stuff I love current logo due to balance of "classic olden" look and modern font.
    As for express colors, Iam 99% sure that it is contrasts. Vallejo always goes up with citadel new releases and vice versa to have competitive product in every category. But in recent Giraldez video he shown "new game color formula", that is veeeery thick on palette... Dunno if it is express colors tho.
    Since painters communicate a lot in internet and there is a tons of good guides (including yours, Don!) - people start to learn that painting tabletop and wargames minis does not requires 10-15-20 years of art background. It is sooo easy and enjoyable. And when I need to paint 100 soldiers, I guess I would go for black + grey/white zenithal prime/drybrush and slap contrast paints over, so model will be "good" looking from 1-2 m distance. Iam still painting without that method (only use zenithal to see basic lights).
    Hope you will make some more VLOGs, especially very interesting to see more of your studio, where you live, etc! 😊

      Hi Vlad! The logo... yes I am torn! I like the modrn look but I will miss the classic look. The classic look looks ... classy. Reason why Winsor & Newton will never change their logo. Old style logos just feels more expensive if the brand is established already. I agree with the express colors. Vallejo has finally gave in to the "speed painting" part pf the hobby. But hey I have art background, I went to art school! Hahaha. But I do agree... so many resources out there. A few I find wrong ( color wherl and stuff ), but its fine. 😅 I am too shy to vlog bro.
