  • In this update, we put carpet on the stairs, upgraded the plumbing, and cleaned up. In addition to that, I stopped at a computer store and am contemplating making a much-needed upgrade to some of my equipment.

    As a computer hobbyist who has custom built/assembled over 20 PC's in my lifetime, I can tell you that a warranty is a complete waste of money. Any component that is going to fail, is likely to do so within the first 30 days which is within Memory Express' coverage. Past that, things are likely to work as intended for the duration you own it or continue to use it. Also, building/assembling yourself is going to make your money go a lot further. There are plenty of step-by-step guides on youtube of how to build your own from start to finish. Another option being you are Canadian (and verified), you could reach out to Linus Tech Tips (fellow Canadian Tech TH-camr) for a collab or something. Him and his team would likely set you up with an absolute killer PC, I'm sure you two could work something out.

      That would be a collab for the ages! I'm 36 and have been building pcs since 15 years old. I second everything you said here. I've never had a component fail within the first 5 years unless it didn't make it through year 1.

    For your eyesight, please don't get 23inch monitors. 27inch 1440p IPS are getting cheaper (about $200). You could also look into a ultrawide if you want more timeline when video editing.

    • @ryleyw3684
      @ryleyw3684 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      As someone who has a 27" and a 23" second monitor go with 27 or ultra wide, 23 is too small for anything other then web browsing or multi tasking.
      Video editing an ultra wide would allow to see more time line and you wouldn't have the bezel, and if your not doing that it can still act as 2 monitors

    Here’s the thing, if you’re buying the comp for 4k, it will add little value to you (it won’t net you a noticeable increase in subscribers) and little value to your subscribers (personally I don’t stream 4K even on a gigabit connection). Dont forget there’s other bottlenecks it will expose in your process, the file size and everything becomes harder to manage and then your upload will be something holding you back.
    Focus on the value add first, things that will net you more subscribers, and once you are done there you can then get a new pc, maybe to speed up your 1080 footage and process first, 4K can be test and learn videos, see if they a tally perform any better in any of your metrics.

    • @VaughnLower
      @VaughnLower 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I made another comment but this exactly. I think bricksie is blind to the reality of the upload times, etc.

    Love this update. So very close. The stairs look fantastic, great color choice. The whole space is looking fantastic. I noticed that you still don't have the pumped condensate from the water heater going to anything proper yet. I would suggest updating the drain line for the new sink to include a double outlet and 2 p-traps. the drain for the sink would go into one while the condensate the other. The trap would be needed to keep any sewer gases from escaping. The condensate would be hidden under the sink as well.

    Hey best to get a PC with an i9 processor instead of i7 and 64 or even 128 GB of RAM. The 4070 is pretty good, but mostly for gaming and maybe overkill for video editing. 30 series is fine, or a 4060. Also make sure you have at least 1 or 2 GB of SSD storage for your programs and for storing the video files your working on. To store finished video files or old files your not editing a HDD is good. Maybe get like 4GB. Also take a look at AMD computers instead of Intel. They have very good processors for video editing with lots of cores. Good luck 😄

    • @michaelpule
      @michaelpule 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@bradkbrown Only real rip off is paying them to build it instead of getting a few key upgrades. Price for components isn't that far off, similar specs, but going 64GB ram, and adding an extra 4TB hard m.2 as well as the 1TB would be like 2K USD. So that's like 2800 Canadian.

I just picked up an M1 Pro for music production after owning an Intel-based Mac, and the Apple Silicon chip doesn’t even break a sweat! Plus, you could probably even get by with a laptop so that you could take it between work and home easily.

I know it's expensive, and it's a bit of a transition from Windows, but it'll be so worth it in the long run. I guarantee if you get the M3 Max, you won't need a separate desktop machine. You could continue to use Da Vinci Resolve, or you could switch to Final Cut Pro for an even more buttery experience.

    It's so exciting to see how the new studio is coming together! I subbed to the channel around the time you moved to the LEGO room, so seeing how you're making your third studio is amazing!
    I'm selling PCs for a living so I'll tell you this:
    - The PC you showed is a really good deal
    - Make sure the PSU you get is Gold certification. That's the part that handles all the electricity distribution in your PC, so don't try to save too much money there
    - You don't need DRR5. As of right now, it may be much faster than its predecessor, DDR4, but it also has very high latency. So you don't really do much except pay more now for the same speeds (unless you want your PC to serve you for more than a few years and will upgrade some of its parts)
    - I highly recommend getting a case that doesn't have glass in the front. It looks nice, but mesh in the front will help for better thermal regulation
    - Clean the inside of your PC every 4 months with compressed air. Dust buildup can have a very high negative impact on performance and enough dust buildup is also a fire hazard

    That carpet and stairs look good!
    Ive replied to some comments already about PC/monitor stuff but I'll put it here too.
    For monitors some one mentioned the 23", your better off probably going for a 27" or ultra wide, i have a 27" and a 23" as a second monitor it is small. An ultra wide would allow for the whole thing to be used with no gaps so editing, time line would be bigger. Then it could also act as dual monitors when doing other things
    For the PC that would render videos just fine, my 2020, 2080 super GPU, AMD Ryzen 7 3700X cpu, 16gb 3200mhz ram renders 4k videos decently, I only done a few, as I kinda got bored with doing the same type of game videos and just stopped. But it was great.

In Quebec, we are protected by the OPC (Office de protection du Consommateur) literally Consumer protection's office. It's well known that a good must work for a reasonable amount of time. I drink almost nothing but water these days... but Canada Dry has recently introduced a black cherry flavoured ginger ale that is awesome... which probably means that it won't be popular enough for it to stick around, because that's the way it goes. Caffeine has always been off limits to me for neurological reasons, so I never bothered with coffee.

    For editing and work related things, it should be a no brainer to just buy an M series Mac... Sooo much cheaper than a PC for what you get. yeah you don't get the gaming power with a Mac but if you are using it for work, Mac's handle video editing way better than a PC for the price. I'm probably talking to a brick wall here but just check out the latest Mac mini's. You'll be saving over $1000 🤷‍♂

    Edit using Proxy Footage. You'll just need larger storage because you'll be duplicating your media files on import. Depending on your Video Editor of choice, when you import the files there should be an option to render proxy footage. Then select proxy footage for media playback while you're editing. It's less taxing on older pc's. When you are ready to export switch media playback to Original (4k) footage then export. It will obviously take longer but then you should have a 4k file ready to upload.

    If you are upgrading to be able to ingest and export out 4k footage, do yourself a favor and make sure you have enough processing ability to handle 4K HDR as well. Since you would be spending money and going through the effort to upgrade, make sure you have enough head room to handle HLG footage with 10-bit color encoded as HVEC (h.265). This can take multiples of time longer than just plain SDR 4k footage to export out if you do not have the optimized hardware.
    I am sure there are GFX cards or processors on the PC that can accelerate. If you are willing to make the switch to a Mac, the M series of chips have built in acceleration. Even with an M1 chip Mac, you can render out 10 bit HVEC footage in minutes versus hours and hours.

    I think u need to prioritize the 4K video needed for your channel. If it's then that PC is a monster. U don't need 6-7 years of any PC after the purchase. However, I think you need to finish the Lego studio first and lastly think you can buy the PC there is no need for that.

    There's gotta be a fan in here close to the new studio that can help you build something a little better for similar price or cheaper. Building a Computer is Like Lego anyway! But if you do go with what they are offering. I would be hesitant with the 1TB hard drive. You'll fill that up fast with 4K footage unless you have some other cold storage to move things to once you're finished. Might serve you better to throw in like a 12-18tb drive for extra storage once you're done working on a project.
    Someone needs to get this man hooked up with @LinusTechTips and have them build a Lego Computer Case and small NAS.
