    It's good that you went over how the OEM buffer works, but goodness gracious is that a PITA to load. Easier than the original, but once you get used to a better solution, that just looks so clumsy and archaic it's frightening. Filament Retract Bank by TNDave for the win! :) (RMU wishes it were as good)

      Totally agree, if you use one of these a lot you need to come up with your own filament management.

    I finished my MMU3 for Mk4 three days ago, and it works but there were some issues. I printed my parts on Mk4, however the selector broke when inserting the bushing tube (and I think mk4 has good tolerances). Also, there are errors in instructions, for example in pulley body assebmly step 21 third picture is showing selector on the right side, but the step before it's on the left side making impossible to put in the nut. Prusa is using microusb in 2024 and the port is quite deep, that doesn't do well at all when you have your printer in enclosure. They should have used usb-c (also too bad you can't update mmu3 firmware using the printer/prusa connect). Next thing is pulley - it's not great, they can grind the filament easliy. The very good advice is that the first few cm of filament when loading should be straight - otherwise it can not go into opening after pulley shaft. And then when it grinds a little - it won't be able to unload it either. I had a powerloss today while printing using only 1 filament, and the mk4 showed up a bluescreen error instead of recovery.... I don't know whaterver it was caused by mmu3 or not. There are also no instructions/parts how to fit the MMU3 into offical prusa enclosure. let alone the "original" lack enclosure. They didn't even updated with a few words like (Mk4 also fits but print this and this instead, and of course also nothing on lack enclosure supporting mmu3). I found parts I need for my lack enclosure and it worked.
    To sum up, it works, but you have to be extra carefull in assembly, especially with pulleys and do some trubleshooting if problems arise. Thanks for the videos!

    I think that an auto rewind mechanism for the spools would be less bulky than the buffer, but maybe that would add a bit more friction to the system

    I've printed my MMU3 parts.....for the most part. Last time I checked the mk4 parts weren't available yet. And I printed the bottom part on my mk3+mmu2. The top part I will reprint with the MMU3 on my mk4 after it's done. I printed it in purple with whiteish (it's atomic khaki I had some left over from my parent's mirror bezzle replacement project) numbers. I'm sure it has a sticker for the front part. I would prefer not to rely on that though. So I'll reprint that as well on my MMU3.

    The top heat brake needs to be adjusted to make the MMU fail save! Firstly it will prevent long stringing of the tip when pulled back. This makes the finda probe sensor at the MMU reliable. Secondly it will have no problem reloading the filament even if the tip is slightly larger in diameter. I'm a little surprised that Prusa hasn't figured that out what the causes of failure are. That is also the reason it has problems with the nextruder on the MK4. Filament is too soft and pulls string which clog the finda sensor. Mine works 100% now, even if I load potatoes as filament.

    So far from what I see unless I’m missing something. This is only good to change colors on layer changes? I hope there’s a way say, if printing a bear with a red nose. But I don’t want everything directly behind the nose red

    • @nemodude2
      @nemodude2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The mmu can do multiple colors/ materials on the same layer. It all depends on how you paint your object in the slicer or how you model your parts.

    • @bruceyoung1343
      @bruceyoung1343 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@nemodude2 so somehow in the slicer I would “ paint” a area I want color. Similar to painting where I want supports?

    • @nemodude2
      @nemodude2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@bruceyoung1343Exactly. In Prusa slicer you can paint any surface that you’d want to be printed with each loaded material similar to paint on supports. If your model has hard edges, you can even select full faces or surfaces if you don’t have as steady of a hand to manually paint them. It’s a very user friendly system that gives you one way to approach multi material printing.
      Alternatively you can design files to be multiple parts and then in the slicer, import the objects as multiple parts to the same object. You can then assign the proper materials to each parts and that works just as well.

    I wish PS had the option to put the wipe tower in the corner and avoid it in the auto arrange. I don't want it included. It's so annoying. I also found that a good color to color calibration test is a cube with smaller cubes inside of it just barely poking out. You can see if the new color bleeds or not.

    I'm planning on doing a print with Senko (anime character). Her hair fades colors. So I'm going to almost completely minimize the purge tower on that. It's not a series of changes. It's a single change. So I'm hoping it will gradually fade colors if I put the wipe tower down to almost nothing (just enough to prime it)
