I hate the fact that a Snakes Eyes story exists in comics and other animated shows and it was badass but it was scraped and turned into a generic movie story.
It really was so well defined in the comics. I will never forget the few times the helmet came off all you saw was the back of a blonde head and people ready to pass out from his mangled face. Great story where an outsider gets taken in by the Hard Master and eventually becomes mortal enemies with his best friend Storm Shadow
"Hey let's make a snake eyes movie, without the original traits that the people know about him" who thought this was a good idea? from what I've heard - he's not a war veteran - he's not or did not even become a mute - storm shadow's "betrayal" does not even make any sense
Snake Eyes's supposed to be a silent and effective special mission soldier, with a dark past that scarred him literally. I'm not sure where they're going with this movie.
They don't care about anything other than having their own marvel style universe. They just wanted someone dressed like snake eyes in a team up movie down the line and they didn't think it would matter if they didn't act like snake eyes. Hopefully the box office for this movie ends up proving them wrong

Snake eyes the character is a masked mute ninja - if u change that hes no longer snake eyes - some characters shouldnt be main characters - some characters only work as supporting characters
Yes but in this movie the reason he is mute has not happened. When you think about it.. Something like that shouldn't be done in the 1st act of something you want to make a franchise out of. Here is the other dilemma you have with that. You have to retcon how he became a mute. In the original. He was disfigured and his vocal cords slit during the Vietnam War. If hey went with that it would make no sense to get a somewhat young actor. So an idea for a retcon is that is disfigurement happened in any of his missions as a Joe Or they can go the route of the Hard Master being killed. This one seems a bit of a stretch since the point of Hard Masters death was to put the blame on Storm Shadow. And as you can tell Hard Master is still alive. Either way it must have been a hard. Because whichever way you do decide to make him mute. You're going to alienate the fanbase
I'm sure the mute thing will come later. This was to tell the origin of snake eyes. Before becoming a Joe. Perhaps he will take a vow not to speak until he brings storm shadow back to his conscience and ultimately back to his clan

I feel like they switched Snake-eyes and Storm Shadows characters up. I’m not a huge Gi joe need, but I have seen a couple of the tv shows, and every time it’s always Snake Eyes that is the one that’s all about honor, while it’s Storm Shadow that’s obsessed with something. They really messed up the whole switching sides, it takes away even more from the characters with how easy they flipped. I mean the movie started with Storm Shadow with the Joes and Snake with Cobra, then ends with Storm Shadow with Cobra, giving no proper explanation of why he’s willing to join the group that organized the attack on his home, and is some what responsible for his banishment.
I'm watching this and I'm like....I feel like Storm Shadow should be with the Joes because Snake was SUCH a prick this entire film. I thought he was going to take a vow of silence until Storm Shadow forgives him as like his punishment or something.
Actually I feel like storm shadow’s and snake eye’s roles were reversed here. Literally thought tommy should have been snake eyes and the snake eyes we got should have been storm shadow
When you were watching Bumblebee, in the beginning when he was talking did you also know that it wasn’t for you? When you saw war machine in the first iron man & he wasn’t war machine yet, did you think it wasn’t meant for you? When you saw Bucky as a regular person in Captain America, did you know that it wasn’t meant for you? Even though Bumbleebee talked in the original transformers stuff … You do realize characters have origins. Snake eye’s origin in the comics was that he could talk before he went & crashed on a plane & got his face disfigured & his throat punctured resulting in him having to keep his mask on & being mute. Origins take time sometimes, stop being impatient, you don’t even know about the character than if you think it “wasn’t meant” for you.

Hollywood you can have a generic action film but when you call it something based off an already established property you kinda have to do it LIKE the property!
Larry Hama, the creator of Snake-Eyes, and yes, I'm calling him Snake-Eyes with the dash because that's how it's written in the comics (which I just started re-reading from issue one, so his origin is fresh in my mind, having just read it last week) said that he should have made Snake-Eyes Asian from the beginning and doesn't really know why he didn't, considering that Snake-Eyes became popular way before his face was revealed. In the comics, even in the flashbacks to Vietnam, Snake-Eyes was not a talker. Stormy was the talker and according to Stalker, was always talking to Snakes about his family business and hinting that Snake-Eyes would be welcome among them. This was before Snake's twin sister and parents were killed in a car crash by Cobra Commander's older brother. According to the Origins Comic, after the death of his family, Snakes went a little off the rails, roaming around, drinking and getting into bar fights. He was drunk in a bar in Texas when Stormy found him and directly offered him a place with his family but Snakes still wasn't hearing it. He nearly got killed due to walking out in front of an 18-wheeler and was saved by the man that would become Cobra Commander. Proto-CC was looking for Snakes and convinced him to help him punish the wicked and they did for a while, driving around kicking the crap out of gangs and corrupt politicians and then they found the judge that had "ruined the life of a Vietnam Vet and forced him to start drinking to excess which led to him having a car wreck and killing himself and the other family." (Paraphrased) CC wanted Snakes to shoot the judge and gave him a .45 Colt 1911 Semi-automatic to do the deed with. Snakes couldn't do it and turned the gun on CC and some things were said and Snakes ended up pulling the trigger and it clicked empty. CC had been testing his resolve and when Snakes turned on him, an unending hatred grew in CC for Snakes. Snakes cleaned himself up and went to Japan and joined Stormy and CC went off his rocker and convinced himself that Snakes was to blame for everything, including the death of his brother (not sure how he got that warped in his brain, but he did.) After Snakes became a ninja, the Hard Master was killed, Stormy saw the killer, but since the arrow used was one of Stormy's, Snakes blamed him and Stormy fled to join Cobra to discover the identity of the killer. Snakes returned to the U.S. and retired to his cabin and then Hawk and Stalker showed up and recruited him for the G.I. Joe team. Snakes didn't start wearing his trademark mask until after his first mission as a JOE, in which he got hit in the face with burning jet fuel which ruined his vocal cords and made his face into something that caused people to gag or start in fright if they saw him suddenly unmasked. He would wear rubber masks approximating his original looks anytime he had to be out of his commando suit or if he wanted to just go out in civvies with Scarlett on a date.
Plus, the character being given the title of Snake Eyes, as in his most striking feature is his eyes the eyes of a snake unshakeable focus, drive will.

Yes but in this movie the reason he is mute has not happened. When you think about it.. Something like that shouldn't be done in the 1st act of something you want to make a franchise out of.
Here is the other dilemma you have with that. You have to retcon how he became a mute. In the original. He was disfigured and his vocal cords slit during the Vietnam War. If hey went with that it would make no sense to get a somewhat young actor. So an idea for a retcon is that is disfigurement happened in any of his missions as a Joe

He would wear rubber masks approximating his original looks anytime he had to be out of his commando suit or if he wanted to just go out in civvies with Scarlett on a date.

i couldn't believe the movie ended with snake eyes still being able to speak. like how do they not cover that and call this a snake eyes origin movie?
In the future please preface your comments with a spoiler alert. Its the year 2021. This shouldn't have to be explained
@Freddie McLane you don't have to give away the ending of the movie in a review dummy
Aww man they should've put snake eyes in a horrible accident towards the ending.
That is what I am saying. Snakes eyes has a fantastic origin story...it is literally there handed to them on a silver platter. Larry Hama gave them the easiest lay up ever and they still flubbed it.
I was expecting that to actually happen. Had my fingers crossed too.
A dual against storm shadow would have worked
Yeah or tried to sacrifice himself for the clan and got his face disfigured that way. Then he'd actually deserve that new suit
Spoiler:
When Storm Shadow was holding that stone I sincerely thought he would've used it on Snake Eyes for his betrayal.
loved that beginning bit about the camera's also I would like a review of Nicolas cage's snake eyes it's such a underated movie has some great lines.
Henry Golding was Dry Eyes in Guy Ritchie's The Gentlemen
What kowinkydink
The reason he could not lead the clan according to the grandma was, no member of the family may use the stone, only protect it, so when Storm Shadow uses it he broke the family oath, even though I think he was justified
Yeah nah it still doesn't really work
He used overkill on an unarmed person, also kind of a douche, at least to akkiko
I loved the movie.
@@megaham1552 a supposed future leader of the clan then break the rules that he promised to respect doesn’t work. Half of the issues that “didn’t make sense” to Jeremy was all explained in earlier events & what not, it’s like he wasn’t even paying attention through the film.
@@packedentertainment2866 it’s the fact that they had a glowing stone that could blow shit up. Which we didn’t even know until over 70% of the way into the story and the fact that we didn’t know some shadow couldn’t use it. It was rushed and felt cheap to cause conflict.
Most absolutely ACCURATE review literally read my mind word for word 😂
The real Snake-Eyes from the comic is a great ninja, but he’s a great soldier first. He’s extremely selfless and heroic.
Castlevania 2 :)
This movie suffers from the same thing as Disney Star Wars….KEEP THE HELMET ON!!!
Or Judge Dredd (1995), since you mentioned “keep the helmet on”.
@The Asterisks and the fact that we never got a sequel was a crime
Are... you referring to The Mandalorian??? I don't think that these suffer from the same problem. Or that the helmet issue even is a problem for these two properties.
@@orinanime nah I’m talking about Kylo ren. Took the mystery out right away seeing the actor behind the mask
@@TCR2025 and I'd say that it's still not a problem. Kylo wasn't meant to be a mystery.
The Judge Dredd comparison someone else made, is a more apt comparison.
But even that isn't really apt.
Because it's an origin story, so it's also not going to be about a mysterious character.
Remembering continuity is half the battle, coping with Hollywood is the other half.
I like that Jeremy isn't sugarcoating this at all he's just giving his opinion brutal as It is, a lot of his other reviews really lack that
Poster quote:
"COMPLETELY WORTHY OF A MOVIE WITH 'ORIGINS' IN THE TITLE" - JEREMY JAHNS
Snake eyes was my favorite childhood ninja when I was a kid and they totally ruined him. Storm shadow on the other hand was perfect.
This just sound like it shouldn’t have been made a GIJoe related property.
It sounds like? Why not just see it for yourself. If you watch you youll clearly see its gi joe. It has gi joe action all over it but it cant gully be one BECAUSE ITS A ORIGIN. Snake eyes doesnt magically just get into gi joe right off the bat
@@xXRand0mDudeXx Totally disagree. This could be any gangster movie and the executives slap on a GI Joe or MCU label to the movie. With the magic stone, they were going to the MCU, which I think Shang Chi is going to do as well.
@@brianng3414 not only fid you clealry not see the movie, but you cleaely havent seen gi joe lmfao
@@xXRand0mDudeXx Oh, tell me more about me, oh wise one... hahaha... You make so many wrong ass-umptions that this is getting funny now -like a fortune cookie or a psychic.
Saw the movie Thursday. It was this or "Old", and I do want to give the movie a chance.
And what exactly is "gi joe action"? Like in the cartoon -people are shot but no one dies? Hahaha...
Unless you are a super fan, I probably have more comics, toys and DVD about GI Joe than you... But you are hilarious!
@@xXRand0mDudeXx
Ok, name every character and tell me how Snake Eyes acts as a character
The Raid 2 will be the bench mark for 2010-2020s martial arts choreography.
Hoping to see it get some competition one day.
The beginning of this review brought me back to "I ain't fucking around" Jeremy and I miss that lmao
Ninja Assassin would have been a great Snake Eyes movie.
Great movie but some scenes were so dark I couldn't make anything out.
Revenge of the Ninja!
Maybe not...
Wow, it’s a movie about Snake Eyes! Wish he’d actually show up in the movie.
I like coming back to this review for that opening rant lol
It’s so inspiring to know that a person with severe Parkinsons can one day become a camera man
Thank you Hollywood for making so many jobs for those who need it
And thank you family guy for giving me the confidence to make this joke
"The best G.I. Joe movie yet." -A critic paid to say this... maybe
Tbf, are there any good GI Joe movie.
Well maybe if that critic had to choose between Snake Eyes or the last two GI Joe movie, he would prefer Snake Eyes as the best GI Joe movie so far
@@zouadailyas8122 rise of cobra is really good movie
@@azrrrrrrrr retaliation was better
It is the best theatrical blockbuster, but that’s not saying much.
