    I have this same watch but with a black dial face and gold case. Keeps almost perfect time. I also had to use several videos here on youtube to set everything including a setting for a different time zone. I use that mainly for daylight savings time. That way I only need to switch it to LTM (An hour behind) and switch it back in the spring.
    Once I had the calendar set, everything else fell into place. Good review. Your photography really captures the look of the watch where other people might bath it in too much light and give it a different appearance.

    Caliber E811. I am enjoying this caliber back from 2001. 20 bars WR. In titanium. Moving strong. Never changed anything.

    I have a BL5551-06L which is superficially different cosmetically but uses the same movement. It's not as hard as people seem to be making it out to be to set the watch up. The first thing you should do is check that the hands are aligned properly and the date is correct because if they are, you don't NEED to go through the whole rigamarole of setting the perpetual calendar. It comes already set up and the only way you need to re-do that is if the watch has been sitting in its dark box for more than 8 months and run completely out of charge.
    Even if it has run out of charge and you need to set it up from scratch it's just not that bad. The problem, I think, is that it's not like a "normal" watch that people are used to but this is because of the perpetual calendar. It's a logical sequence of actions and once you've done it it won't seem nearly so daunting.
    I don't travel outside my own timezone so I use "L-TM", or local time, for standard time and "TME" for Daylight Savings Time, being as there's more of the latter than the former. When the time changes twice a year I just pull out the crown one click and rotate the function hand to the other time-keeping setting. It's very, very handy. Even if I were to travel it would be no big deal to set for a local time zone and then set it back to my Standard/DST configuration when I got home again. The alarm function won't work on "L-TM" but I don't use the alarm anyway. I can't hear it if there's any background noise and I have better alarm capabilities on my phone.
    My watch has a slightly different face, came with a leather strap that I replaced with a metal bracelet, and functions identically to the watch in the video. I love this watch. The price of these varies widely and wildly. Citizen lists them for between $250 -$350 on their website, my watch right now on Amazon lists for $450 and I bought it on a time-limited deal from Amazon for $125 ... which should encourage everyone to watch for a deal on the watch you like.

      Did you not like the white stiching on the leather band? I'm debating on getting one on that style but am still on the fence

      I do not like leather bands, period. They get nasty and smelly, they rot, the buckle tongue pulls out of its hole or rips through to the next hole, the ends rot and pull free from the spring bars, etc. I hate leather bands and only own one that's attached to a watch. The rest came on various watches and they're in a box in my desk drawer.
      That single leather strap I have in service is a black simulated alligator strap on a gold dress watch that I rarely ever wear, in fact I haven't worn it for a full day in a couple decades. I don't dress up very often and I have little use for a dress watch. Still there are those very few times when it's appropriate (funerals mostly) so I have a nice gold toned 38mm Seiko chrono for those occasions. I don't wear that leather strap enough to allow any deterioration, it still looks brand new. I replaced the buckle with a butterfly clasp that matches the watch.
      I wear _a_ watch, not necessarily the _same_ watch, 24/7/365. I choose which watch I'm going to wear, generally in the morning over coffee, then I wear that watch until the next morning. Or longer. Which watch depends on a lot of things like what I'm going to be doing, what the water resistance/scratch damage, time keeping, etc. requirements for the day are likely to be. I have some favorites that get picked and worn more often than others. I have some nice watches that I only wear for special occasions. The automatics are in winders and the Eco-Drive/Solar watches are where they can get enough light to keep working. I only own one straight up battery powered non-solar quartz watch and it's the same one I mentioned above with the alligator strap.
      Metal watch bands don't stink, they're easy to clean and they don't make my skin break out in a rash if they're worn for long periods of time. I also like silicon/rubber bands but those I have to remember to take off and clean once a day or I get a red spot on my wrist. I don't like any sort of non-impermeable material in a watch band. Things that can soak up something will do so and the worst is when a leather, canvas or such watch strap soaks up some soap and holds it against my skin. That causes a dermatitis burn. I don't take my watches off when I wash my hands, that's a bad habit and a good way to lose a good watch, so soap is a consideration. I won't own a watch that isn't at least WR 50M so I never have to worry about wearing them while washing hands or in the shower etc.
      I don't like "NATO" straps either. Besides the fact that they're permeable and can soak up sweat, soap and whatever else they come in contact with, they look to me like someone trying to tie their watch on with an old chunk of seat belt. YMMV, to each his own. Buy what you like and like what you buy -- or change it.

    Just bought this watch. It's great. Look at a video to set it in here, not very complicated, just different. Very happy with this purchase and I love that it has an alarm. Wear it it good health gents. Cheers.

    I enjoy your style but I notice you never mention price. Isn't that an integral part of any review? Value for cost? Is there some reason you have decided to shy away from mentioning the price of these pieces?

    • @RelativeTime
      @RelativeTime  6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      You are very right. As value of what your getting is vital to if I would recommend it at all. I mention it in my more in my recent videos. This was my second video, and I was still figuring out what I was doing. And to be honest I was more or less "winging it" as I recorded the audio in my first 5 videos.
      Not that I really know what I'm doing now. It's been 4 months, but I think I've gotten a little more refined in that time. Plus I take the time to write out a script (which I mostly follow) before recording now. So I remember to hit key points. Like value.
      Thanks for commenting. Feedback, good and bad, really help reinforce what I should be doing as I make these.

      Ah. I thought perhaps you ascribed to the thinking that discussing price is Gauche. Impractical in my opinion but some reviewers shy from discussing money. Really enjoy your reviews. Keep doing what you do.

      Mentioning price in a YT video is only as relevant as to the time period the video is posted. Go back a few years and reference what a Rolex GMT Master II fetches and it's night and day to what it brings today. Not sure if it's really THAT helpful.

    Picked same one up second hand, with blue background, had to reset and set time, complex for sure!. Once you accomplishe this task, the watch is just excellent!. It's daily, also the casio duro, Marlin with gold accent.

    Nice review - but sadly incomplete. You never mentioned the bezel, nor demonstrated its rotation. Does this bezel rotate or is it just fixed in place? If it rotates, is it in just one or both directions? How many clicks per rotation - 60? 120? Sorry, but any review of a "dive watch" as this is designed to resemble must cover these points. I am interested in buying this, but only with a working bezel for timing purposes. I hate faux dive bezels. That is a deal breaker for me. Please complete your review with answers to these questions. Thanks.

    • @RelativeTime
      @RelativeTime  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's fixed, so probably something you want to pass on.
      I haven't looked back at this video for a couple of years. It was one of my first ones. Since I knew it was fixed it didn't even occur to me to talk about it. I just thought of it as a dressy chrono, but your right. Looking back I should have.
      Unfortunately once somethings up, its up. Nothing can be done about it now. Live and learn.
      Cheers

      @@RelativeTime Thank you so very, very much for a prompt and helpful reply. Bummer, it is a deal breaker for me. I use these bezels a lot. It is much easier to see how much time has lapsed in a timed event with a quick glance at the bezel than trying to focus one's eyes on the tiny chronograph dials. Take care and God bless.

    I was looking at the blue dial of this watch, but after watching and listening to your review I’m swaying toward this one, that silver dial is eye catching! I like that it has a perpetual calendar but where is the day of the week? I have seen other citizen perpetual calendar watches with the day of the week complication, did I miss it in this review or does this watch not have a day of the week complication?

    • @RelativeTime
      @RelativeTime  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      No it doesn't have a day of the week. A lot of Citizen's Perpetual Calendars are multi-functions, where this is a chronometer. So instead it has a sub dial for partial seconds for the stop watch feature. Just depends on what you would want. I'm not sure about the blue version, but I know there is also a black version that is also Titanium instead of steel. Which is a nice bonus. But I think the silver dial is much more interesting. Cheers!

      I wish I could. I don't have it anymore. I actually bought it for my father in-law. Next time he visits I can see I can borrow it back for a few days. It really is a pain, and I usually have to re-set it for him.
      Citizen has a few tutorials, but they are not very good. My eyes go cross eyed when listening to it.

    I like Citizen watches. I had one in the seventies. I don't like the layout of this dial; it is too crowded. When they have to cut parts of the numerals, that makes me pass. A smaller font might have worked better. Japanese brands usually put too much information about the features on the dial. Who needs that?

      Changing the time is not too bad, just have to remember to push the button to enter that mode. Then deal with the odd digital crown thingy. Hopefully you would only have to deal with that a couple times a year. Setting the date with the perpetual calendar is all kinds of confusing though.

      Not usually. But it all depends on the persons wrist size and personal style. Generally W omens watches tend to be sized at smaller. With usually the largest around 36-37mm. But generally more around 33-34mm.
      My wife wrists are fairly small, and this would be way to big for her.
