$60k for a MIDSIZE truck is absolutely insane. The truck market is so stupid right now and why I can't justify buying a truck right now.
This isn't the price for "right now", this is the price going forward.
Car prices aren't going to go down, they're going to keep going up nonstop.
@dave_riots that's a valid point. Another reason I'll have to go to the used market as well. These prices are getting insane but the worst offenders are the trucks in my opinion with some 1500's creeping into the six digit range.
Dodge has always been Jewish
40 k for a used Toyota
I hope the friend get a brand new 2023 ZR2 simply do not buy the desert boss version for what it gives you. I personally don’t think it’s worth the price you’re better off just buying the normal ZR2 saving like 10 grand and add what you want later like if you want the bar in the back and stuff like that at least that’s what we did
I have to give Chevy credit.
That is by far the best looking dashboard in the segment.
Go sit in one and find out how many of the day to day controls you have to dig through layers of infotainment stack to get to and you might reconsider your praise. Ergonomics are one of my biggest gripes with GM products, and having sat in one of these at a dealership, I can tell you firsthand, its still a major gripe.
@@Mike-In-O-Town you’re a major gripe. And a headache.
@@Mike-In-O-Town At least you can change the A/C temp with physical controls. If you hate digging through screens for crap youll really hate the Ranger Raptor lol
@@TheAow4321 The 2024 Ranger Raptor equipped as I'd order it, tips in at just short of $60k. And that's without dealers gouging on the sticker. All in, you're talking likely $75k. Doesn't matter where the controls are in that truck, I want nothing to do with it at anything approaching that price.
I graduated HS in the 90s, dreaming of a full size ‘95ish Z71, so this new ZR2-despite being “mid-size”-is everything I’m accustomed to in a FULL size truck. Only 12” shorter, but the same width and even taller than the Z71s of old. Short of pulling a 5th wheel or a 32-foot center console, I just don’t get the need to go any bigger. This is a home run to me 👏
32 ft center console what?

Purchased 2023 Colorado ZR2, love it. Drives GREAT. Zero issues.
I mean its brand new, I would HOPE you haven’t had issues.
In order for that 4-cylinder to make the power it does, it makes 27 psi of boost.
The lower trim option I believe hovers around 15psi. The real difference between the regular version or the high output is the tune/amount of boost.
Just saying that 25+ psi of boost is a lot of pressure and wear on parts so it’ll be interesting to see the reliability of this little ‘boosted to the heavens’ engine.
Spot on. That 4 cylinder is just too small for the truck, maybe OK for commute but any heavy work will wear that engine out in no time.
Thanks EPA and CAFE standards
Materials science and engineering in general has come a long way. We no longer live in an era where smaller displacement turbo = unreliable. It’s built for the power.
300+ hp from 4 cylinder isn't nothing new, at least in Europe...
People were saying that about the 2.7 Ecoboost, and it's a great engine with very high reliability.
This isn't the 90's anymore when 5-7 psi was normal and you risked engine damage at 12. We have much better metals, and WAY better fuel injection systems and computer controlled turbos.
The camouflage interior is such a good choice of color scheme, so well that I didn't even notice it!

Chevy S-10 ZR2 also used to be a good pickup truck like Hummer H1.
Thanks for leaving the GT3 "interruption" in! Truck is nice too.
Really cool truck. NOT worth $60K+. But then, it's not just this truck or Chevy. All vehicle (and particularly truck) prices are insane.

It's such a shame that all these US Pickup Trucks aren't sold by Ford, Chevy etc. Dealers here in Germany.
Yes in Europe in general we are less into Pickup Trucks for obvious Reasons, but many of us live rural in the Mountains, Forests etc. and in my Area here in Southern Bavaria a lot of People use a VW Amarok, Mercedes-Benz X-Class Pickup Trucks or the Japanese ones of course.
Since the Japanese sell their Pick-Up Trucks here i wonder why the US Brands don't.
US Pick-Up Trucks are so rare here (because you have to import them) that whenever i see a Dodge RAM or a Ford F150, i slow down to look at it more than i would when i see any Porsche, since those are plenty here.

After all it is called the Colorado for a reason…

A 1/4 ton truck for $60k is just insane.
What's realistic in this economy?
Its an fully dedicated off-road truck. Front and rear lockers, beadlock rims, tricks shocks, winch ready. Seems like a deal compared to what you get with a a Rubicon
the world has changed. keep up. EVERYTHING IS MORE EXPENSIVE NOW, THIS AINT 2016 ANYMORE
so? Raptor R is $110k, V6 Raptor $80-90k and base F-150 XL is $33k. That's a way bigger price difference than base Colorado WT which is $35k and $60k for Desert Boss (Colorado's equivalent to what Raptor R is to F-150)
GMC Canyon AT4X (sister car to regular ZR2) is $57k base price

I have a 2015 Colorado Z71 and absolutely love it. I love the improvements Chevy made. I've honestly looked at other vehicles and outside of maybe a Tacoma, I dont think I will buy anything else.
I had a 2000 Ford Ranger (when it was new) and wasn't as in love with it.
This orientation of light truck is the big seller in Austrailia. The front bar we would call a roo bar. Bars reduce your safety so the roo bar is as small as possible but will still save you radiator (the item that will disble you). We go for this size as it fits all urban facilities like multi level car parks. They are very very capable off roaders right out of the box. That includes the lower models too. Our big sellers are called Hilux (Toyota), Ranger (Ford), Triton (Mitubishi), DMax (Nissan).
Here in Brazil too, but we don't have DMax. The best-sellers are Hilux, Ranger, S10 (Brazilian Colorado), Frontier (Nissan) and L200 Triton
How do bars reduce your safety? I don't understand.
I wish we could get the hillux in the states. It’ll be interesting to see how the new Tacoma stacks up to this
For a high speed collision into a solid object (Light Pole, large tree, head on to a car) we need the car to crumple to cushion the impact. A front bar has to be solidly connected to the frame to do its job. A roo is not a solid object so the bar wins. If you hit a large tree with a bar, the deceleration time before your body hits something solid is reduced and the fine fraction of a second timing of the air back is not perfect. If the bar does not do this then its not going to work as a bar. The two functions are apposing. Everything in a car is a compromise. The advantage of a roo bar is it only protects your radiator and if the collision is not head on, there is still some crumpling to decrease the impact to your body.
I am 57 years old and have only owned Hilux's. My last car however was a Triton because the Hilux had become too fancy. For me the base model Triton was functionally what the Hilux was until now. Key not push button, vinal floor, parts and service arn't expensive. Every think I need, nothing I don't. (yes it was very sad moving away from Toyota, after a lifetime with Toyota, not an easy decision)@@jeffreyastjohn
Pretty wild that cars are going to be totalled in the future because the screens died and you can't control the headlights any more.
I love the all windows down button on my Silverado and also wish it could roll them all up. I expect it doesn't due to safety concerns.
Keep the lock button pressed on the keyfob after the doors lock and all 4 windows should roll up.
The Silverado has the "flow tie" as well. Nice to see the underneath camera come over from the HummerEV
That’s a lot of torque that each cylinder has to put out. Hope the engineering calculations play out.

Reason why is because multi matic is a made from a sport racing company.
The only thing I didn't like is the controls for the headlights, you have to use the screen to turning on and off. I prefer a physical control to do that
Wow, that's really a lot of $$$$$$ for a mid-sized pickup. I guess for those that are really into off-roading, it's probably worth it. But I suspect that 95% of the people that but them with never see real off-roading. For that other 5%, have fun with your $68K gas-guzzler. It does look great.
That is a crazy amount of money for a midsized truck.
That's more expensive than a top trim F150 not too long ago
Bigger does not mean better. And actually mileage on colorados is not terrible.

I agree. 90% of off-road vehicles were purchased for lifestyle posturing anyway, and will never see a dirt road, let alone off-road.
Im hoping i can score one used in 2 to 3 years (at a steep discount) from one of those 95% that never off roaded in it lol

15:06 I had a 2001 Audi RS4. When you press and hold the unlock button on the key fob, all four windows roll down and the sunroof fully opens. In 2001, over 20 years ago... I would assume that many VW/Audi cars had this function, but that only few people figured out this 'easter egg'...
I really like the Colorado and Canyon, they look great and I'm glad GM made them. Was looking hard at these and the Ranger for a while, and came to the conclusion what I really wanted was a Maverick. I got one heavily optioned and I love it - it feels like s sports car compared to my old full-size, and I can still haul plywood, oh and it gets 30+ on the highway with AWD and a 2.0l turbo.
🤮 dollar store Chinese truck lol
I shopped for similar trucks and a Maverick for a while and grabbed a Santa Cruz for the same reasons. I’m typically a Ford guy, but consider all options. Large trucks are capable but very large and cumbersome.
You bought what many people actually need, yet they make fun of the Honda Ridgeline for being a bigger version of it.
@@MPMeterman Ridgeline was a really compelling choice too, but for the size, fuel economy, capability, and price I wasn't sure why I'd get one over a Ranger. Perhaps Honda engineering, that V6, some cool features? The more I looked into it the more the maverick made sense for me.
@@michaelwagner3952 I agree, the size of the Santa Fe is great. t's funny but the Maverick is somewhat bigger than the midsized Ranger of yesteryear, and if you look past bed size, today's Ranger is not much smaller than my old 1995 F-250! It's crazy!

i ordered a 24 Colorado trailboss and i cant wait to get it these trucks are truly awesome
It looks good, that Bison looks even better. It amazes me the power they get out of a four banger these days.
I had a late '80s Toyota pickup with the 22R, bulletproof, but a third the power of these modern engines.
Do these higher powered four cylinder motors have longevity? Can you manage to put higher miles on them?
Some people will say its perfectly fine. Call me crazy but i think a turbo 4cyl pulling this kind of weight cant be good for it.
I think back to the little old s-10's. The 4cyl was indestructible, but the 6cyl didnt have a strong enough tranny to deal with the extra power.
Those motor is in the chevy and gmc 1500s as a base engine. It does well in those trucks. It is more suitable for this size.
You were discussing the price. I can't do $60K myself but I can't blame anyone else. The right size, right equipment and so on is possibly worth it. I think the 2.7 is the right engine for these times. I heard it had some bugs but think of it, a four cylinder "Work Horse". I have a 2.0 ATS and I have learned to appreciate the turbo four.
fwiw it's $52k if you don't get the launch "desert boss" package. I think that's extremely reasonable for what it is.

I'm used to Audi Virtual Cockpit. So when you started talking about the dashboard being able to show so much stuff, I was excited. Hmmm, maybe it can do a weather radar overlay on the map! Maybe it has a terrain/elevation map display! Maybe I can watch Netflix, Hulu and TH-cam right on the dash! Maybe it can do infrared night vision, or play video games, or track air traffic near me, or show me Zillow prices as I drive down a neighborhood street!
But nah. It seems pretty much like Audi's system, but with worse graphics. They're like, "Let's kinda copy somebody else, but not put much effort into it." Not saying that's a bad thing, it's just that I got all hyped up for something new and cool.
It’s better than the new tacomas head unit. It’s also not a luxury sedan 💀
is it me or has Doug been hitting the gym? I'm calling it now, this time next year Doug is going to be buff. #BuffDoug
The blooper at the end, that GT3 RS literally took the words out of your mouth LOL
Oof. The V6 has like 280 ft/lb of torque. This new 2.7L engine is smoking that at 150 ft/lb more!
This 2.7 should feel much more peppy at lower revs too. The outgoing 3.6 V6 you need to really get it up there in the rev range to get the full 310 hp it had, not to mention nowhere near the same torque numbers. The one thing the V6 has though is better fuel economy.
This 2.7 sounds a lot like the Mazda 2.5T with crazy low end torque. If it is designed similarly it'll feel like a diesel almost
@@Xaiux so the beef is it doesn't sound cool.

My 06 Silverado...my horse.
the $$$$$ is just too crazy.
I purchased the GMC Canyon back in 2016 because I needed a newer truck. It was the lower priced 4 door with small back seat. It was under 28,000. It’s not been a pain free as the heater core busted early on and this year I had to replace the oil pump on the 4 cylinder at my great expense. It now has 70,000 miles. But it has got the job done. With its bright red color, I still get compliments. These car (truck) companies are just pricing people like myself out of the new market. Would I buy this again, not sure. I lust after the Rangers………
That seems insane that a oil pump would go out at 70k. Most cars and trucks that's something that will last forever. Or at least the life of the engine. sorry that happened to you
I as not happy. There is a small check ball in that pump that stuck, the engine would reduce to low power mode. I could shut the engine off, then restart and it would run ok. I have put 10,000 miles since the oil pump work. Haven’t had the problem since. GM has a service bulletin how to address this issue. Thanks.
Hey Tim, Hope you are well. Would you buy this Truck if it cost 45k? That's how much this truck is if bought in 2016 because of inflation. You can blame USP Joe Bid for the inflation. Looking at the 45k price I see it as only slightly over by 5 to 8 grand in 2016 dollars or 6500 to 10300 in today's dollars. I figure an ok price for this truck all whistles included is 51,500 in today's dollars. Personally, I love it but I am curious on the performance longevity of the new engine with the high-pressure turbo. Could end up being a winning engine though but we won't know till folks put the real miles on them. Let me know your thoughts!
@@william5823 I am doing fine. I got priced out of the truck market long before Joe came into power. Prices went up, then I got down sized in my line of work. My truck doesn’t have all of the bell and whistles. I’m not sure what I would buy today. I have tested the Maverick last year, but dealers had marked them up about 5k when they hit the market. I have no payment on my truck now, so I will drive on for now. Since I got the oil pump replaced, I haven’t had to seen the shop again. My truck doesn’t have a turbo. Who knows how these engines will hold up.
The dealer mark up is insane and unfair. Fully paid off truck and running no problems, that's the way to be and it's basically paying you back now. I'm going to wait too, the economy is too terrible for me to warrant getting anything new for myself, I can't afford it. Fingers crossed things turn around for us in America!
There are some good choices for a midsize pickup right now in this segment. You've got the Chevy Colorado ZR2, the GMC Canyon AT4X, Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro and the Ford Ranger Raptor. Tbh, I'd choose the new Ranger Raptor. Thing looks badass
I miss the preview cars on the intros those were fun to anticipate a Doug Review
Here in Brazil, the equivalent truck is the S-10. It's been practically the same since 2012 with a few updates since then. It looks like the new generation will arrive next year and will be very close to this new Colorado.
In Australia the equivalent truck is basically Toyota Tundra.
I really really like these trucks, I went to purchase one but ended up with a gladiator Mojave instead, thanks mostly to a steep discount on the Jeep as opposed to a dealer markup on the Chevy. There was a $20k difference between the two! I would like to see the Mojave in the Doug Score list since it is honestly one the most comparable to the Desert Boss in terms of features, price and intent of use.
There's a reason the Gladiator is discounted while the Colorado is marked up.

Again - I love the new Colorado. But it is a new model and they're having issues. There are multiple reports of the infotainment screens in these things bricking. When that happens you literally can't turn on the headlights. Build quality on the interior is questionable. The Trail Boss is the same price I paid for my Mojave but has less features and way less capability. I shopped all these trucks when I bought my Ranger in 2019 and shopped them again with the new Colorado when considering the Jeep. Even with the "cons" of the Jeep (it sure as hell isn't perfect), it made a lot more sense to me than any of the others.
For all the comments saying 60K is crazy. This is the price for the Desert Boss which you cant even get anymore and includes 10K of useless accessories. The ZR2 is 48K, which is an absolute steal when you consider the new Taco TRD Offroad with premium package is 53K (this was just announced officially), and the TRD Pro which won’t even be as capable as this ZR2 will be close to 60.

In reality this truck is far from the coolest. The early 2000s Silverado SS, Ram SRT-10, Ford SVT Lightning, Chevy SS 454 Pickup, GMC Syclone, SVT Raptor, and Dodge Dakota Sport as some examples. would love to have a word with it. 😂
You forgot the fastest one, Tundra TRD Supercharged lol, this video is for current trucks however............fyi.....
That off road info in the info screen is gonna be very handy for navigating out of the office parking lot
When i saw you uploaded i thought i was mistaken and today was thursday instead of friday, had to double check the calender
A couple of things I'd like to add, as the way I'd take this truck is the lower Trail Boss trim:
*Gauge Cluster:* The smaller display in the rest of the trims actually tries to be pretty close to this upscale one found in the ZR2. It's based on that first display you showed with the tachometer around a digital speedometer, just without the extra info on the sides, and there's a few different versions of that. I honestly find it really cool that they try to still give a premium feel to the cheaper cluster like that, they didn't make it some crappy display.
*Engine:* The high-output 310hp version of the 2.7T as two different torque outputs, 430lb-ft "High Output" for the ZR2 and a 390lb-ft "Turbo Plus" version in every other trim. Apparently that torque is locked by a tune, trucks with this 390lb-ft "Turbo Plus" version of the engine can be optioned to unlock the full 430lb-ft that the engine is capable of.
I have a 2023 Z71 and it is great. My only complaint is the buggy infotainment! In general it is excellent but when you live with it for a few days you start to see all the bugs. If you move the camera button to the left dock, it will just not remember you did that and it will disappear next time you turn on the truck. Sometimes the auto screen brightness just doesn't work. There is a blinking cursor in both the dash and infotainment screen's top left corner. GM is SO CLOSE to this being perfect, they really need to be fixing this. I've had the truck since June and there hasn't been a single update...
If still under warranty, you could take it back to the dealership and report the issue. That should typically kick off a process that should ensure GM engineers get notified of the issue(s) and hopefully release a fix as part of a future software update.
Got me a 23 Colorado Trail boss. Love it so far
The camouflage actually looks more like a zinc metal texture, especially with the pieces that shimmer. Kind of hits 2 spots, people that like camo while or an industrial feel.
Kinda looks like forged carbon fiber.
A buddy of mine bought one of these. Looked awesome and seemed like a cool truck. The very first time he put it into 4-wheel drive in some snow, the transfer case exploded and he was stuck.
With all of these bells and whistles, it's still a Chevy.
My aunt almost bought one, but after 2 GM products requiring expensive multi thousand $ repairs before 100k miles she got a Tacoma trd.
Hmm🤔 are the old ones just as bad I never see a old one on the road or on the trails ?
I just see Taco’s for dayz
My 2019 Silverado trail boss died at 19000 miles. Motor lost an oil cooler hose clamp. Happened again the day after I sold it. Never buying another GM.

Chevy has definitely improved the Colorado for 2023, but the V6 should come back!
Turbo 4s usually don’t let as long we will see
@@jakefox3677 the 4cyl is decently powerful though, but there is something so charming about the V6 to me.
@@jakefox3677 the Chevy 2.7 is built like a diesel engine, it will last probably longer than Chevys v8s
I just don’t understand why we can’t get improved more efficient more powerful Turbo V6’s or even tough turbo inline 6’s like a Barra.
I don’t understand the EPA or Emissions agency laws but just seems like a turbo V6 would be the best of both worlds.
Im not a fan of V6 engines or the colorado in general so I don’t really care that it’s gone, but i would like to see them try to cram in the diesel i6 in there, love that engine
Can't wait for you to review the ranger raptor
Doug, we love you Doug
4 cylinders in such a huge car (yeah, I'm European :P )? Insane. Can't imagine buying that. V6 or miss me with this blender under the hood that'll break like crazy in a handful of years
I'm not buying anything 4 cyl. ever !!!! PERIOD
@@MIDTOWNE1 4 cylinders are ok in small cars like a Civic, etc. But currently these cars are often offered with 3 or even 2 cylinder engines!! Yes, there are cars with two cylinder engines sold in Europe! Insanity
60k for a 4 cyl truck is insane
Nice video good job 👏
So Doug said that with the price point that it will probably be a rare truck. Combine that with this truck only being sold for 1 year, would this be a good investment truck you think?
And they were delayed so I wouldn't be surprised if they don't even make the initial expected production
Never in my entire life have I heard so much positive dribble from Doug after listening to him for years. It was like an overdose of sugar flowing from one's mouth. I just hope his new business partners haven't instructed him to go light when reviewing new vehicles. I still like the pre-rich Doug so don't change.
Doug has never given a darn about price, I have never heard him complain if a Bentley is like 300K or Bronco Raptor is 95k etc. Also at 22:52 he addresses the price. He defends the price for saying its worth the money.
@@RuddlineDoug has been too soft lately, that's how he can get these videos early and invitations to events. Old doug would criticize how much boost this engine has and how unreliable gm trucks have been in the last 10 years
He’s a sellout getting paid to talk things up
They have, he no longer says any real bad stuff about the cars and doesn't question reliability. Real shame, channel was actually fun to watch, now you get fed corporate propaganda instead.
Doug, the kind of guy to Introduce Kennan as his boyfriend but not in a sexual way.
What?
This is not funny at all. Do better.
@@CB12345same bro its not even a joke
cant wait to see these at the chevy service shop👍
When Doug talks about the "flowtie," all I could see was a 4Runner's front end, like Chevy copied and pasted the headlights and bumper lol
The Desert Boss is cool, but the Bison is what you'll want. AEV makes it so much better!
I have no desire to pay EVEN MORE for marginal gains and also have my spare tire blocking my rear window
Doug the type of guy to fart into a toilet and flush it
😂
Excited for you to do the new Ford Ranger!
I love how the water tight tailgate compartment has water in it :D
Imagine paying 60k for a midsized truck
foolish indeed lol
I’ve learned to love the 2.7 in my new Colorado. It’s a torque monster and designed after the build qualities of a diesel.
It has a wicked turbo whistle, and funny enough this motor has more stroke than the 6.6 Duramax.
I’ve heard they have been very reliable all the way up to 100,000miles, I feel like they would last even longer knowing that this truck loves to operate under 2200rpm with ease.
are you a GM sales rep
As a guy who drives alot. 100,000 isn't enough for me. I'll stick to Toyota and Honda 250,000 all day with out any major work.
@@TheUndead2012 He must be, or has completely swallowed their propaganda to the point it fried his brain.
Some smart things, but Def a couple misses with that UX. The Auto down button not rolling all windows up as Doug mentioned for sure. But also why move the window lockout and headlights of all things to the infotainment screen? Whats faster and easier than a control stock for lights? surprised thats even legal to do incase a screen goes down and its night time.
The Colorado ZR2 is 8.1/10 pickup truck. Very nice to drive indeed. 👌
I’m with you on this one Doug! I’ve never been into GM or Chevy trucks before! But boy! I think Chevy knocked it out of the park with this one! It look fantastic! Now if I could only afford the price! Sucks being poor!
Doug is the kind of guy that turns the defrost and the A/C on at the same time.
That's a great truck....I want it. Been wanting it...
This makes me really miss my 2016 Colorado z71 midnight edition
I see why the Taco sells the best 💀. Great vid as always Doug! 🔥
Please explain why I'm not seeing that
@@donaldsalkovick396 Just my opinion. The Taco would retain its value much better, when you’re paying this much for small trucks, it’s nice to have a great resale value. Less maintenance costs. It’s one thing to have a luxury brand and pay a lot for maintenance but a Chevy? I dunno. All trucks are great tho!
Still rather have the Taco Trailrunner.
I’ve been waiting for you to review a new Colorado. Wish you had done the trail boss.
"Flow Tie" was created from the Camero Z28 like 10 ish years ago!
$60k for a mid size pickup has me deceased. $60k even 10 years ago would get you a fully loaded F350 King Ranch.
$60K 10 years ago is $84K today
Anyone seeing this truck on the road will think you spent $45k, not $60k. I can’t believe how expensive these are.
I want one of these.
Doug saying "a turbo 4 cylindera is cool, V6 and v8 are the past blabla" always Doug driving a V8 " yyeeaahh this is real cool!!!"
