@@inse728 why would I want my car to be a video game rather then getting raw unique noise. Hyundai had to take the easy way out by making an EV for cheap speed..rather then creating an amazing engine
Hi Doug! love your reviews, I've owned one of these for a few months and need to correct some errors in your review and provide some additional facts\quirks you missed: The range is 448km\280miles - not your quoted 200 miles The digital speedo is available, you were just in sport mode which only has 2 gauges available. Normal and N mode have much more options available and both have digital speedometers. (there's even "classic" gauges too) You can also configure every setting in the N mode, when you hit the button twice it goes to N custom, so you can keep the much more sporty display, but still have traction control and soft suspension enabled There are 3 sound profiles for the simulated exhaust note. The other 2 are a bit more silly, but the jet one is fun as when you "change gear" at "high revs" it lets out sonic boom sounds out the back of the car. It's a really fun gimmick. Also on this, Hyundai have confirmed that more sounds will be coming via future updates, there hasn't been any updates since it's launch yet, but i suspect we will see it in the coming months The regen breaking offers a deceleration force of up to 0.6 G through regenerative braking alone, which is a leading figure in the industry The battery is 800volt which is also industry leading for its ability to withstand track driving with the battery preconditioning modes for track\drag The front seats are heated and ventilated as is the steering wheel The manual seats were intentional as the 5N already weighs in at 2.2 tonnes. I mean, who needs to adjust their seat anyway? (I've never understood this argument expect for large family cars) Lastly, you can control the car remotely via the Blulink app, check the 360 cameras, lock the doors, turn on climate control, etc Overall, I think this could’ve been a much longer video with a lot more details about how track focused this car is, and also with how many technical quirks combined with practicality rarely seen in this kind of package. I honestly feel this car is really pushing towards the future of fun and engaging driving is heading.
I've also owned one for a few months, welcome to the club! 🙃 I understand he can't include everything for brevity. Also 448km is WLTP, not EPA. And, what I just learned in this thread - the manual seats are so that you can sit lower in the car, which is awesome. It's almost as hard to get out as my lowered cr-z, which I see as a plus - as they said in the Hagerty vid, it's a full send car. (and you can also adjust the seats so high that my head almost hits the roof)
@@MilodeVries congratulations to you too then!, these things are the future for sure. Even with the EPA adjustment it should be about 250 Miles, not 200. In any case, good to know about the seat as well. I never really adjust my seat so I don't see what the big deal is. I just said it once then it's done forever 😅
Hyundai is the only company that integrates the LSD, motor, and reducer, and this is Hyundai's unique patent. Thanks to this, other companies have to use indirect cooling with coolant, but Hyundai can cool with oil, which allows it to manage heat much better than the Porsche Taycan or Tesla Model S Plaid and run longer on the track. If you drive a Tesla on a track, it will be faster in the beginning, but it will not be able to make a few turns and the power will be limited due to overheating. However, the Hyndai IONIQ 5N can run around the track all day with maximum power, and this is the best among all existing electric vehicles. The IONIQ 5N is the world's first mass-produced car to contain the drive shaft system used in the WRC. Of course, this is not a very advanced technology, but even BMW M and Mercedes AMG cannot use it because the production cost and unit cost are too high and the heat treatment, processing, and suspension assembly processes must all be changed to apply it to mass-produced cars. However, Hyundai applied this system even at the cost of giving up its own profits to improve the driving experience and reduce lap times. I thought Hyundai was a cheap car company that only pursued profits, but after seeing this, my impressions of Hyundai changed to a company of car enthusiasts who are crazy about the soul of motorsports. There is still a gap in technology, but their passion may make them more car enthusiasts than BMW M. I remember when Hyundai first entered the WRC. Almost every car fan in the world laughed at Hyundai. I also felt bad that a company like Hyundai dared to enter the WRC and thought that a company that made money by selling a lot of cheap cars would enter motorsports for marketing. But Hyundai won the WTCR over 20 times and won WRC twice in a row.
Fun fact: the manual seats in the EV6 GT and Ioniq 5 N aren't really there to save weight, instead they are manual so the seat can be lower in the car. This means you can get into a more sporty, sedan like driving position.

Yesterday watched Misha's vid of him in one running with another Ioniq N owner, both ripping around the Nordschleife. Impressive stuff. Could even do two laps with over 40% battery left, when no other EV he's driven on the Ring so far barely gets thru a single lap without its battery complaining.

This tech basically allows any EV to be a simulator platform for any other car, be it real or imagined. I predict we'll see content packages you can buy later for your EV, and manufacturers of iconic cars making a lot of money with engine sound, gearbox & torque curve content. How many owners of Ioniq 5 N would buy a simulation of Ferrari 250 GTO? Or an early aircooled 911? Or a 2CV to experience how slow cars used to be?
I have now owned the Ioniq 5 N for over a month and it is truly a magnificent vehicle. A solid 9 out of 10 and one of those rare cars we will look back on as truly transformative for its time. There are a few improvement areas, most notably its range and turning radius, but I can easily look past that considering how good it is. Superb vehicle and one that makes my 991.2 Carrera T being left in the garage more than it should…
Yeah I love mine too, and given what I see around me, eg on the nürburgring and in the comments and what the other reviews say - I think Hyundai is going to sell quite a lot, and they could even maintain value quite decently, esp if you manage to keep the matte paint good (part of the reason why I wrapped it)
Even with the sloping rear hatch, the Ioniq is amazingly spacious. I used it to move and i was able to load an insane amount of stuff into the car. Including a 45" diameter dining table and 4 chairs.
He should have at least mentioned how it detects curvy road signs and then suggests N mode (sport plus). Adaptive regen breaking is also quite amazing I found, as are the ventilated seats. The nav is horrible though
@@MilodeVries I wouldn't say it is horrible, I have a normal Ioniq 5. But I don't know why you would use built in nav when you could use Waze through Carplay or Android Auto.
@@BeepasGarage well my use case is finding a charger while on the road. I just want a somewhat decent experience to find a fast one, ideally 300kW/800V, on my route. Ok perhaps I should enter the route in the nav, but just searching for chargers was so horrible, it kept on suggesting me 11kW chargers etc. However, I think in the next big update, we'll get Google maps integration so that that knows about SoC, then we're golden
Fun Fact: the evolution engine sound is from a video game/sim racing game. The evolution sound is the same sound taken from the N Vision Gran Turismo 2025 from Gran Turismo Sport & Gran Turismo 7, the car that technically launched the N brand to the public. That car was a hydrogen EV prototype racer. Evolution's one of 3 sounds you can pick. Ignition is the one doug showed, evolution is the EV sound, and Supersonic is an (honestly terrible) jet engine inspired sound with sonic booms on upshift
i wish hyundai would make an over the air update for the car that allows u to make ur ioniq 5 n sound like anything you want, it would be funny to see one of these things tear past u with a big rig engine sound 😂
I have no doubt it can be user modded in, or will be in the future. It's a very complex thing, but has already been simulated in extremely accurate video games
No sure if it was overlooked or if you didn’t know Doug, but Hyundai did add more sound options, they have a engine sound, a electric “evolution” sound and a third sound called super sonic I think, suppose to sound like a jet and let’s out a sonic boom when shifting. It’s not a v8 or v12 but it’s a little quirk for sure
My Renault Clio had an engine sound simulator like that with a number of options, best by far was a 12 cylinder engine from some 1930's roadster. Used to blow passengers minds when you turned it on.
i really want to hate it but god damn if Hyundai hasn't been making some cool cars as of late. the design has some solid cyberpunk vibes and the manual mode although useless seems pretty silly and fun.
I've recently seen someone with one of those (Manufacturer Plates) here in Germany at the Nürburgring. Despite being a SUV, it does extremely well around the Ring! Hyundai is definitely creating very exciting Stuff! Prost & Cheers from Berchtesgaden in the Bavarian Alps
Out of all the sportscar brands out there, it's little hyundai that gave us what we want in EV; ICE simulation. EV Cayman replacement better be like this...
Yeah I'm surprised it took an automaker so long to do this. Toyota? Patented EV manual transmission tech (simulating a clutch pedal, friction zone, and gear torque curves) it would be so cool if someone did that in an EV. Imagine when you are bored and want to have fun driving an EV with 3 pedals, and when you aren't in that kind of mood simply put it in "classic EV" mode and ignore the clutch and shifter! Someone has to do that, it's the next step up from what Hyundai did here!
One can adjust manual seats so much more quickly. We have two old school vehicles, one with manual seats, oddly, the older one with electric. I'm 6'2", wife is 5'5". Electric seat are so slow.
I always find it weird when reviewers complain about cars having manual seat adjustment, unless the electric ones come with the option to set presets i don't see the point
Wrong, 30 sec vs whatever sec is nothing. Also electric seats can remember their adjustments so it's a simple one button press, vs manual seats spending days trying to get it just 'right' where it was perfect again
Doug, PLEASE make a presentation vid giving us a chance to see the public's reaction to you driving those super/hyper cars, (gas pump visits, etc.) AND have a crew member film you from another vehicle so we can see you zoom on the highway instead of just the "in the car" view!
@@DannerBanks He's ALSO pretty good at responding to viewer requests! I asked for ONE vid! Not that he would change his style. I know he's busy, but he"ll probably DO it in the near future anyway. Thx.
That simulated transmission is the one thing I wanted in an electric car! I love shifting gears when I’m driving, and I’m not a fan of having a single gear.
I'm curious: in videos the engine noises sound a tad synthetic. It seems to be the way they change rather than the note at any given simulated rpm. Is this less noticeable in person i.e., is a harmonic lost via microphone?
Don't give much value to what anyone says handles great, it's kinda subjective, however that weekend score being barely higher than the Mach-e even though you can literally track this car out of the factory shows how little the doug score means, can't wait for Savagegeese with their review doug is just an entertainment channel not a car review channel
Some manufacturer will come out with a 3 pedal gated manual shifter for their sports car. You'll be able to simulate 3 pedal driving when you want the thrill and switch back to "1 pedal" driving on your daily commute.
I am very interested in this car however a couple things that US market does not get is a heads up display, and sunroof. And I love the ignition sound mimicking a four-cylinder N model but the other two sounds are awful IMHO. I wish the additional Sounds they would add are a V6 turbo, V8 or V12. Those would be ideal and fun for a daily commute Maybe they will add them in a software update in the future!!! Then it’s a done deal for me to trade in my KIA Stinger GT2 !!
Huh, in the engine simulation does it turn up regen braking to simulate engine braking in different gears or is it just sound? It is interesting enough that I am tempted to try it.
@@volvo09 yeah but i think thats a good thing, it sounds like an electric car, not like its trying to sound real, kinda sounds like something youd drive in cyberpunk, kinda dope actually
I agree with Doug that it probably won’t sell well, but I think Hyundai knows that too. It seems to be a showcase for new tech and ideas rather than a mass market product. The fake shifting is done surprisingly well and I think it works because it’s kinda like a sim racing rig, I can see people like me who grew up playing racing games finding it fun
As if the most accurate and incredible simulations in existence, made from real recordings of legendary vehicles, could be a bad thing. Top tip, it sounds way better than whatever you're playing through your crappy TV speakers
9:50 As someone who has years of experience doing sound design, the stepped pitch rev sound is probably the most cheap sounding thing ever. They could have at least had this created by a proper sound design person. It sounds like they just threw in a 1/2 step curved pitch envelope automation and called it a day. The tools we have for sound design today are so far advanced, we could make it sound like a futuristic alien spaceship, or an F1 racer, but instead they went with "90's-era Mario Kart". Hopefully the other "N" button is used to launch green turtle shells.
If nobody mentioned it yet, i think the vertical red strip on the front and back is a reference to the N logo. Though i find its shown usually tilted on other N cars. I kind of wish Hyundai leans on the tilted red more; would also love if they included the black angled strip as well.
Say you buy an electric Supercar and you get to pick the engine sound from every car in their lineup.....Heaven. This tech is definitely the future of sport EV's
electric seats fall under the same category as those stupidly slow electric tail gates. I really don't get it. Have both in one of the cars I own and it just annoying. Especially when you switch between drivers and it takes forever to move the seat around.
The manual seats are there I guess to offer lower seating position compared to electric seats, which always tend to be raised to conceal the electric motors...
Wrong and stupid comment. He loves the simulated manual not the sound, pay attention, and nobody should ever like manual seats, when it gets changed for whatever reason you have to spend days trying to get it 'right' again
I can already see the electric shifts being Doug Awards biggest Quirk winner at the end of the year

They are now making really BEAUTIFUL machines.
yeah, the N Vision 74 is just 😍
If only they were more reliable :( .
Not only Hyundai. Korea is making a freaking mark in the auto industry in general.
@@pinkacehyundai is the only korean auto maker I believe? since Kia is owned by hyundai
@@blackcow8114 I would say Daewoo had a pretty big influence on GM, even if they've been rolled up into Chevy.
Superb vehicle and one that makes my 991.2 Carrera T being left in the garage more than it should…
Congrats on the N, hope I get a chance to experience one at some point. preferably as owner but passenger would suffice 😎
Yeah I love mine too, and given what I see around me, eg on the nürburgring and in the comments and what the other reviews say - I think Hyundai is going to sell quite a lot, and they could even maintain value quite decently, esp if you manage to keep the matte paint good (part of the reason why I wrapped it)
Congratulations. Can't believe Doug thinks this doesn't handle as well as a Golf R. Maybe you could tell me your opinion as you own one.
Lol. Ok
How aren't you so completely embarrassed to be seen in this? 😂
With all the reviews, from Throttle House, Raiti's Rides, Car Confections, Hagerty...everyone has thier take and features.
Keep up the great work!!!
Even with the sloping rear hatch, the Ioniq is amazingly spacious. I used it to move and i was able to load an insane amount of stuff into the car. Including a 45" diameter dining table and 4 chairs.
Doug, I can't believe you missed the setting to change the shift sounds. Jason Camisa showed it in his video.
Came to the comments to say this. Rare miss from Doug.
@@SimonVelazquez He misses quite a bit tbh, or doesn't understand why a quirk is there at times
One biggest improvement from the previous Ioniq 5 to this facelift version is the rear windshield wiper.
The facelift model also have rear wiper and a new N-line trim
They heard the people, they complied ... That's awesome
THIS... needs to be a pinned comment. the rear wiper is major

I never understood ppl complaining about manual seat controls. How often do you adjust your seat? Even if u do it often, it's not that hard.
@@volvo09 Toyota can't even make a proper commuter EV yet.
One can adjust manual seats so much more quickly. We have two old school vehicles, one with manual seats, oddly, the older one with electric. I'm 6'2", wife is 5'5". Electric seat are so slow.
Yeah, and they are lighter (kind of irrelevant in an EV) but manual seats are fine.
I always find it weird when reviewers complain about cars having manual seat adjustment, unless the electric ones come with the option to set presets i don't see the point
I also prefer manual seats
Wrong, 30 sec vs whatever sec is nothing. Also electric seats can remember their adjustments so it's a simple one button press, vs manual seats spending days trying to get it just 'right' where it was perfect again
My car knows who I am and it adjusts automatically when my wife takes it out. But it’s not that big of an issue because I bought my wife her own Benz.
Are the proportions inspired by the lancia delta?
I personally think they have a similar proportions
I like the manual seats. You can adjust them a lot faster than waiting for the electric motors. Less weight too
8:16. I literally dont care about a power seat.. I set my seat once and then almost never touch it again.
Doug, PLEASE make a presentation vid giving us a chance to see the public's reaction to you driving those super/hyper cars, (gas pump visits, etc.) AND have a crew member film you from another vehicle so we can see you zoom on the highway instead of just the "in the car" view!

Would you complain about manual seats in a Porsche 911 GT3 which costs way more umm no you wouldn’t.
Funny how everyone else said it handles great.
Are you seriously comparing these two cars? I don’t even know where to start …
Don't give much value to what anyone says handles great, it's kinda subjective, however that weekend score being barely higher than the Mach-e even though you can literally track this car out of the factory shows how little the doug score means, can't wait for Savagegeese with their review doug is just an entertainment channel not a car review channel

Yes, yes. Lovely Delica. :)
You have the N buttom for driver Mode, the N buttom for sport Mode and the N butrom for fazer sound Mode. Nice
Some manufacturer will come out with a 3 pedal gated manual shifter for their sports car. You'll be able to simulate 3 pedal driving when you want the thrill and switch back to "1 pedal" driving on your daily commute.
GM is actually considering that for the next gen Camaro
I wonder if this is why we have so much animal hide in our cars, people missed it from when they transitioned to cars from horses
Been waiting for this 🔥🔥
Doug, find an 80's Alfa GTV6 to review! Lots of them in the SD area.

I thought it was cool that the engine noise sounded like a retro arcade game. Fits the "pixel" theme to me
Now all Hyundai needs to do is put this technology in a small 2 door sports car that looks great.

Why do car journalists hate manual seats so much? They’re lightweight, easier to clean under the seat, and faster to adjust.
Probably because they are always used to high trim vehicles and never really see manual seats anymore.
They don’t hate manual seats. You just come to expect them at the 70k level
electric seats fall under the same category as those stupidly slow electric tail gates. I really don't get it. Have both in one of the cars I own and it just annoying. Especially when you switch between drivers and it takes forever to move the seat around.
I saw this thing going around the Nurburgring and it's absolutely crazy
The manual seats are there I guess to offer lower seating position compared to electric seats, which always tend to be raised to conceal the electric motors...
Love the simulated shifts and engine sound
when doug says he love simulating sound engine and dislike manual operating seats this means that we are doomed 😂
Wrong and stupid comment. He loves the simulated manual not the sound, pay attention, and nobody should ever like manual seats, when it gets changed for whatever reason you have to spend days trying to get it 'right' again
