Visited Mykonos in 2003, lovely place. We stayed at the taverna where Shirley Valentine was filmed, it was very uncommercialised then. There was a pelican in Mykonos town too, we had a great holiday.
I was in Mykonos last year and the only thing I didn't like about it was it was absolutely crowded due to the number of cruise ships that were in port at the one time. But it's a beautiful island, the people were friendly and yes, it is expensive, but then so are so many other tourist destinations. I'm stunned it came out so bad in the poll. Great channel btw, just discovered you and I've enjoyed the vids!
It's because they aimed the poll at fat northerners who want Pints at 8AM for 1 Euro and all-day Breakfasts followed by watching the Football/Rugby League in a bar or turning pink in the sun on a beach......... The only cheap holiday destinations nowadays are the shitholes (like Benidorm) that nobody with any sense (or large amounts of money) would be seen dead in!
I went to the ‘relatively unknown’ and certainly not commercialised island of Mykonos in 1983 - it was so cheap to eat out and drink everywhere that I came home with a purse full of drachma! The ‘airport’ had only just opened for international flights….on arrival on the island, we had to walk from the plane (Dan Air as it was!) to the Arrivals lounge, and wait in a queue as the stern looking Greek Airport head honcho inspected EVERY page of peoples’ passports before stamping it (he was checking to make sure there were no Turkey stamps in it!) before letting you go through to the Exits! The first day, after spending the night in a hot little room. I went to inspect Mykonos Town, I got horribly lost in those little paved streets and😮 maze of alleyways - they all weave in and out and all look the same! trying to find my way to the sea or a Taverna to get a drink was hard - I even had a “map”! But by day four, I knew those streets like the back of my hand! All around the island I found the best tavernas the best bars, the best ice cream shops and the best place to get a toasted tuna sandwich and a cup of proper tea after a day sunbathing on the nudist beach Super Paradise! There were no rip off merchants then - just “locals” eager to welcome the traveller and holidaymaker and ensure they had a good time - and they seem to love British people and could not do enough to help! The beach sun beds and brollies were cheap to hire and I went all over the island on their buses! The world, his wife and some hairy goats were on the buses too! And if you went to the same Taverna a couple of times, you were treated as a friend and the free “shots” were plenty! I loved Mykonos - it’s just a shame that greedy capitalists are cashing in on the resort and ripping off the tourist and the locals - they won’t see any of those €€ $$ or ££ being made. As for the pelican - unless he was replaced by another pelican brother/s later on - Petros the pelican was killed by a car in 1985. I never saw Petros when I holidayed there in Mykonos but I was attacked by a pelican on the island of Zakynthos a few years later!

Where I fell in love with Greece in the early 80s too I agree with everything said. Got delivered from the (one room) airport with our cases on the back of a flat bed three wheeler truck 😂
You think Mykonos is expensive? Dublin is jaw dropping. €10 for an ice cream, that meal you got in the restaurant would have been twice the price in Dublin that you paid €31. 3 star hotel would be €180 per night. (€80 per night in Mykonos is great value)
I have literally just got off an Easyjet flight from Mykonos to Gatwick....and we saw most of the places you seem to have been to. And we had the same weather!! It isn't horrible, it just doesn't cater for Brit-style tourists. It is expensive yes. But it is fantastic without Irish pubs....
It's possible the shorts were stonewashed, a process to make them look worn-in. This treatment is often used for giving an aged look to jeans, with some small stones often found in the pockets. But then again, it's also possible your shorts could have been pre-worn!
definitely stone washed, lol, though I didn't know they did that to swimming trunks; though going to a Greek island without thinking you might like to swim - that's on you, Ed!
You had Baklava for dessert, but that's a loaded statement that it's 'Greek'. Turkish would claim it as theirs, but also generally very popular in the balkan region as a whole. Definitely is part of Greek cuisine though. If you go back to Greece you should try Spanakopita, I would guess your airport has a cafe, maybe grigoris, they would likely have it. Similar situation culturally, but a great savoury breakfast or lunch. It's called borek in other places.
I am not even British. USA btw. This is the most ridiculous thing that I ever heard. Let me guess because of accomodations. Wanting nightclubs to close at 6am. And breakfast serve all day at anytime. Not even all-inclusive resorts do that. It isn't about the money. It's about tourists not getting their way. 😂
Fun fact: The houses are white because of a cholera outbreak and everybody HAD to paint their houses white as it was a disinfectant. They don’t have to anymore but they still do. 😅❤
Great vid. Looked good to me. Everyone hates high prices but they have to make money somehow and when you're on holiday the opjective is to have fun lol. I think a lot of people complain when they go overseas because a lot of the areas are for relaxing, swimming, being in the sun etc : a lot of people who have children expect everywhere to have activities for families, some do but it's nice to have some that are more chill. Same when you go camping: do you want to go to a place where everything there is for kids like entertainment, activities, watersports, shows etc or would you settle for a calm site with a simple childrens park with swings, slide etc and a fishing pond. When we were kids there was activities you could do that were free like rounders, boardgames , cricket and when kids have gone to bed the adults could play adult board games or chat with a few drinks. End of the day, it all comes down to what you want in the holiday, budget, age of the kids, if the kids are only interested in gadgets and expensive activities or will they happily play with the old school camping games. Anyway. Good vid, can't wait for the next one , now it's time i make a bloody brew lol xx
This was the last place I went abroad to 11 years ago and I absolutely loved it. I asked in a shop if they had anything for a hangover and the woman gave me some pills out of her handbag... cured me in no time! As for the "big bird" he was there when I was - not sure how long they live for. Some people have suggested watching Shirley Valentine and I agree, there's a split second scene where they arrive into the harbour and you can see a comparison of how much the place has grown since that was filmed.
Fun video. I just found you as this video popped up in my feed. I don't know why it was rated so badly. Any "popular tourist spot" (especially with cruise ships) is going to be expensive. I travelled with my students in the Mediteranean many times and I had to teach them to check out the side streets and less popular/crowded places to find bargains/keep a budget. Souvlaki is always good (the chicken skewers you ate), but there are so many other good foods in Greece. The desert was baklava and it can be different town to town, region to to region.
Loved this video! You did well to visit when no cruise ships were there, it’s very different when there’s 10k+ cruise guests in the streets. Definitely never the worst place though I love Mykonos! 😂😂
You are right, Shirley Valentine was filmed on the Island, it is one of my favourite films and wanted to go to Mykonos to the film locations, especially when they get of the Coach at the Hotel. Obviously it will be different now but to get the essence. I have not yet as for the Costs you can put the money to a more realistic price level at other islands.
12:18 be careful on the ouzu it's lethal 😅 gets you drunk drinking it then gets you drunk again in the morning trying to drink water to cure the Hangover 😂 lovely stuff though 👌🏻
Enjoyable video, thanks! Ive been ill this week and enjoyed watching your videos for a cheer up. I was half expecting those rip-off trunks to be those joke ones that disintegrate in contact with water! 😂😂
I think this is the classic case of brits valuing value (aka cost in most people’s mind) over everything else. Could be the prettiest. Could be the most entertaining or relaxing. But if it’s seen as “not good value” it goes to the bottom of the list! I get it, and partly agree… but experience, culture, people, food should surely count for something over just “the price”!?
I first went to Mykonos in 1994 and there was always, even then, a Mykonos ‘premium’ which made it the priciest island but it was well worth it and we returned year after year. My most recent visit was 2019 and I decided it was my last. Rapacious profiteering had changed the atmosphere totally and multiple cruise ships in port at any one time meant that the main town, which used to be gorgeously serene during the day when people were at the beaches, was totally mobbed. I go to Naxos now (visible on the horizon from Mykonos) which is beautiful (greener and more fertile than Mykonos) and the beaches are superb (especially Agios Prokopios). It’s also a fraction of the cost with no ‘sunbed mafia’ carpeting every square inch of beach with beds and parasols at €70 a pop. I still have wonderful memories of days spent at Super Paradise Beach but unfortunately for me these days it’s a case of ‘Paradise Lost’
Loving these travel vlogs! You mentioned about not having much chance to unwind.... how about a week's all inclusive vlog!? I think that would make quality viewing!
Was there last year, loved it. Very friendly, found the pelican, tried on a £100 000 ring (lol) ,watched a cat pluck a fish from the sea, spent too much time at Katerina's cocktail bar (its in the background of the video), found cheaper food (Jimmy's that you also walked past in the video). Not the worse place at all.
Bergen looks interesting but I opted to go for a different vibe and went to Tromsø and loved it. Didn't find Norway *as* expensive as people made out, though not cheap by any means
Hi, nice video, have to say your hotel looked fantastic for the price. Like you said, no way it’s a one/two star! Laughed my arse off at your “new” trunks. Somebody returned them after having a dip!😂😂 Great vid!👍👏👏👏❤️
LETSSSS GOOOO, Better than Butlins lol, Honestly enjoy your content and your humour. Would love some best and worsts and some more travel and hotel stuff tbh i like all of it lol keep up the great content
If you look at the priced menus outside of nearly every greek taverna and restaurant then you go in knowing roughly what money you will be spending, but being ignorant and going in without looking and especially ordering sea foods that are sold by the kilo and the price changes everyday then you risk getting ripped off . It's like getting a taxi from the airport to your resort , if you do your homework you should know that prices are usually fixed for every resort and a board outside the terminal will give you the information, so if you know that then before you get into a taxi you should ask and then if the price is inflated you know to not use that taxi . If you say to the driver it's 40 euros to so and so resort then he knows that you know and that is what you will pay . Knowledge is the key , ignorance will give you cause to complain. Any trouble and the very threat of getting the tourist police involved will usually resolve matters. I've lived and holidayed in Greece enough to know that simply asking the price of any service before committing yourself is usually the best outcome .
Have always loved the Greek islands but not been to Mykonos (which has always been more expensive & was known for a lot of years to being popular with men who aren't into women).Lesbos was the island that women favoured for same reason. People also need to bear in mind that it's Greece not the UK - hotels/rooms are more basic and rustic than we would expect in the UK but I've always found it part of the charm & Greek people are lovely.
Mykonos is good crack. Expensive, yes definitely if you base yourself in the main town (which really has been built around catering for wealthy gay american toursits) and only stay for 24hours. (If you go to Greece expecting Spanish Costa's type hospitality catered for the Brits, you won't find it on the islands). But I guarantee if you were doing the island right, i.e. staying for a week or more (ideally not in May when Pools & Sea haven't warmed up yet, late June to end Sept is ideal), with a few buddies and hitting the great beaches around the island (years since I've been, but Paradise & SuperParadise were good crack back in the day), and only doing Mykionos town in the evenings if you wanted late bars and clubbing. If you like a bit of History & Culture, Mykonos is a great base for doing a half day visit to Delos (the birthplace of the Gods Apollo & Athemis), ok it's a massive archelogical site and Museum and that's it. But the above ground ruinse really give you a feel of life 2000 years ago. But the thing about Greece is there is an island for everything (Party, Chill, Culture, Isolation and the larger one can do several), and Mykonos is not the wild party town it was once thought to be...🍻
Another great video thanks Ed. I think it looked lovely there, even though a tad pricey! Pity you didn't see the infamous 'Bird' Keep the videos coming We love ya
Another brilliant vlog mate, Calpol😂😂😂 I've been to Mykonos twice only on day trips while on a Cruise, I don't think I would go for any more than 5 days.
I think the most unfriendly place to holiday in Europe is the Dordogne France, i think i know as im Irish living here, i would not be able to live anywhere else but. wow find out four yourself Ed it would make for one hell of a video.
I went last year for a 10 days with the mrs. Found everyone exceptionally friendly, food was class and the beaches were lovely. Shocked people dont rate it at all!
I saw the pelican there last week. I only spent one night in Mykonos (it was the cheapest flight to Greece, that got me close to Athens, took the boat the next day to Pireaus, to see Rammstein at the Olympic stadium). I stepped out of a shop where I'd bought a drink and snack, never having heard about the pelican... And got one hell of a shock as it walked towards and then past me, almost brushing by, followed by an entourage of tourists... So i joined in, taking a few photos!
I actually love that you just do the normal stuff in these videos that us everyday normies would do on holiday. After watching this, I have a MUCH better idea of whether I'd want to go to Mykonos or not, than I would if you'd been all like "Okay, I'm gonna go on a jet ski this morning with this Greek millionaire who's kindly agreed to sponsor this video - I'll tell you more about him and his amazing products later! - and then this afternoon I'll be chillaxing in the Infinity Pool of this exclusive hotel, which the owner has kindly agreed to let me make a full video tour of..."
Surprised any Greek island would be voted most hated by anyone. Been to quite a few ,not Mykonos though and as a rule the are all great places to visit with lovely locals.

Ed referring going to Mykonos and filming it as a "job" is the most millennial thing I'll hear all day. "Not that hard" no not hard at all 😂
I'm currently in rodos, and yeah, I know that feeling so expensive to be here, but very pretty
you need to get yourself to Bergen in Norway, i think youll love it
where the rain never end Bergen
He thought those Greek meals were expensive. Small change compared to a Norwegian meal.
Somebody returned them after having a dip!😂😂
Great vid!👍👏👏👏❤️
36 euros for a pair of swimming shorts! I could see the despondent look on your face like what have I just done🤣🤣 banging vid Ed👍👍
55 !😮
@@GA-fz2wt timestamp 8:54 36 Euro's

Hi Ed enjoyed your amusing Clever blog ,your good at this mate ,will check you out more .Cheers Mate
A pelican used to nest near that windmill
"Imagen that being your life, you're just rolling about in rubble" 😂 love it
I think that place looked absolutely lovey. Looking at going with the kids and missus now
"A Greek Mevagissey". Brilliant 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Have you been to Mevagissey? It's beautiful unlike Mykonos which is dirty and tacky looking 😂😂😂
@@jennyoshea1958 summer holidays for 30+ years spent down the road in Pentewan. The annual trip to Cornwall wasn't complete without a visit to Meva.

Just discovered you! Great reporting! Travel On!!!😎🌴
If you look at the priced menus outside of nearly every greek taverna and restaurant then you go in knowing roughly what money you will be spending, but being ignorant and going in without looking and especially ordering sea foods that are sold by the kilo and the price changes everyday then you risk getting ripped off .
LOL there is only one thing to say, "you prat!" Ouzo smells a bit like liquorish.....yes!!!!
Also saw you in Costa Del Norfolk watching the most boring football @ Carrow Road.
Hope you enjoyed the Match and the Beautiful Norfolk Weather.
But the thing about Greece is there is an island for everything (Party, Chill, Culture, Isolation and the larger one can do several), and Mykonos is not the wild party town it was once thought to be...🍻
Loads of cat poo “don’t know if that’s original or recent” 😂❤
Loved the dinghy diver joke 😂😂😂😂was hilarious
Another great video thanks Ed.
I think it looked lovely there, even though a tad pricey!
Pity you didn't see the infamous 'Bird'
Keep the videos coming
We love ya
New subbie. Haha you’re hilarious but also good informative content. The hotel looked lovely.
Thank you! 😊
Another brilliant vlog mate, Calpol😂😂😂
I've been to Mykonos twice only on day trips while on a Cruise, I don't think I would go for any more than 5 days.
I think the most unfriendly place to holiday in Europe is the Dordogne France, i think i know as im Irish living here, i would not be able to live anywhere else but. wow find out four yourself Ed it would make for one hell of a video.
you should visit Nea Makri, Greece, went there last year... the locals are lovely but a very rural town :)
Baclava, filo pastry, chopped pistachios and honey.....mmmmmmm
Are all the yoghurts out there Greek? You crack me up mate. Love your wit. Legendary 🙌
Absolutely quality video 🤣🤣 Keep them coming.
People probably leave bad reviews to discourage others from going. That way, they have the place to themselves without too many annoying tourists.
I went last year for a 10 days with the mrs. Found everyone exceptionally friendly, food was class and the beaches were lovely. Shocked people dont rate it at all!
Yeah absolutely, probably the friendliest service I've ever had at a hotel before
It's priced to keep the Great Unwashed
Away!!! 😂😂
I've been to cleaner hippy communes!
Killing it ED, Keep em coming. 👍
Thank you!
New subscriber mate , your hilarious 😂
I was in Mykonos in the mid 70’s .Cheap as chips and unheard of .
Since you're in Leeds, there are plenty of really good greek restaurants. Souvlaki in Headingley, Mythos for a takeaway 👌
Just found you channel. Love it xxx
Got back from Mykonos yesterday, I'm convinced that Petros doesn't exist. Was in the old town all week and didn't see the wonky git once.
I saw him last year, just randomly walked past. :)
I'm paying restaurant prices like that right here where I live in the US, and this is not a resort town. But it is a college town
I can never figure out why people confuse licorice and aniseed flavours, they're not very similar.
(Ouzo is aniseed)
That windmill looks like the 5th beatle
18 euro for that, in cyprus you can get that for half the price with a drink maybe even cheaper....
Surprised any Greek island would be voted most hated by anyone. Been to quite a few ,not Mykonos though and as a rule the are all great places to visit with lovely locals.
Another video, another winner. Keep it up Ed.
Thank you!
Living in London, those prices are bargains. Couldn’t get a meal out for that price in the south xx
When you reached into your pocket in the trunks I thought it was €30 in cash, might have then got a decent price on them
That windmill thing has Bruce Forsythe's head rug.
Baklava! That is the dessert. Very nice.
Er no they used wind mills to grind the corn to make flour which made the bread!
The guy was joking and found it pretty funny 😀
Greece is my favourite place, but I like Corfu ❤
