    Apparently Stan was riding his brother's coattails. The thing about people like Stan Van Gundy is that until it catches up with them they are incredibly nice to their bosses. That works until they get exposed for not being effective and end up out of the league. The problem is that because Jeff Van Gundy did a good job establishing the family name so this allowed his brother Stan to screw up several players and franchises. It ends up working out for Stan because by the time everyone catches onto his act he's got financial security.

The coaching culture was always messed up, centered around trying to discipline young black men. I say that because I've never seen a coach, black or white, yell at a white kid, ever. The worst part is, I used to experience that myself, having a horrible coach who is too simple minded to be anything other than racist but the problem goes deeper than that. And this right here is what I stress about when I talk about Thibs coach for the Knicks. Everyone goes look at the wins we have like this hasn’t been the best roster since the Melo years. He has always been known to try to break rookies or young guys he doesn’t particularly like. Obi Toppin for example there is no reason you can’t find minutes for a Number 6 pick. You can’t create plays to his strengths, and encourage him instead he gotta remain in the corner the whole time he is out, and even when Randle is injured you treat him like a bad replacement. How can anyone flourish under a coach like that especially a rookie. Iq got the same treatment seeing his friend that he knows can ball get shitted on for the littlest of mistakes but when toppin explodes when completely disrespected in the playoffs they look at him like he’s a problem when the locker room cancer is the coach. You let your star player give half effort but shit on the young guy who is hustling crazy. Thibs was finally forced to play toppin and he dropped multiple 40 pt games and only one game where he didn’t have at least 15 so why he only getting 10 min. A coach like that will never win, and that’s why thibs is currently the worst coach in the league, it’s a facade that he’s a good coach but nobody really wants to play for him.

      @@devilsadvocate1975 that’s because he doesn’t know how to create an offense. He doesn’t know how to coach a system that can incorporate the whole teams strength. He’s a defensive coordinator and that’s it, he relies on his point guards to create offensive chances and shows when he’s left without one because at that point he’ll try to make any top player into a point guard (which is why ppl think Randle could be a point forward). And you are right because that game rose got injured he should’ve been taken him out. Most of the league doesn’t want to play for the guy for a reason!

Forget the NBA I bet it happens along the way all the time in college or high school. Gil and KMart both knew what was going on at the time so they didn't get ruined. To the point, the Magic made it to the finals with one PG, then changed it in the finals to the shoot first PG Jameer Nelson from Rafer Alston. That was a coaching decision that sucked. And unbelievably stupid decisions. Period point blank. The team that won, only had Kobe, so let’s not act like Orlando didn’t have talent. Dwight was the better center in that game. Rafer was the better PG. Kobe was the best at SG. With JJ Reddick and Rashad Lewis were better shooters. And the Lakers had Paul Gasol at PF. There’s no way they should have lost to that team, except for the fact that he changed the 6’4 facilitator who was playing defense to the shoot first 6ft guard who felt he had to make up for lost times and prove he was better by shooting too damn much instead of working the angles. Couldn’t guard Fisher nor Kobe. It was a disgrace and embarrassing.

      You saying only had Kobe like he wasnt the best player in the league...Lakers just came off of losing to the Celtics in the finals and was a lot more comfortable in the Finals than the Magics...Kobe wasnt going to let another championship get away from him

    • @ulyssesgrant1781
      @ulyssesgrant1781 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Wtf_Going_On I agree with that, but the way Van Gundy was trying to re insert Nelson messed up the chemistry that Alston had with the starters. Trying to start Nelson off the injury messed up everything. Even Alston’s play. It looked like he was shook. Then Gundy would re insert Alston to make up for the confusion on the court. By then, the Magic was playing catch up and Kobe would already be in his bag. You are right, nobody’s stopping Kobe. But Rafer was more defensive and not allowing Fish to get to the rack and have clean shots. A direct result of Kobe being Kobe. Dwight was still Dwight, but instead of boxing out Gasol and bullying him, he was like everyone else trying to make up for the guards getting burned. I don’t know what the outcome would’ve been, but the Magic chemistry was so much better before Nelson came back in the finals. The 2nd string PG did have to worry and played relax when Nelson was out. The one move to start Nelson and bring Alston off the bench was disrespectful and broke his confidence and the defensive chemistry. It could be the case that Kobe would have cut them up by the end of every 4th quarter anyway, but it seemed like they were just water through a sifter. Rafer was more of a threat and was driving and drawing defenders. But maybe it was Phil’s defensive scheme. Because of Nelson’s mindset, it worked to well. He was turning the ball over or driving and getting trapped without a clue. It was a bad decision and I always hated Nelson’s play after college. We had prime Turkoglu at 6’8, Dwight, Rashad Lewis at 6’10, and JJ Reddick popping shots. The Lakers dismantled the whole thing with Kobe and Gasol and Van Gundy. Yeah, MJ’s twin wasn’t knows how to take advantage of weaknesses and he did.

      @@ulyssesgrant1781 i fully understand what you are saying on leaving in Skip instead of re-inserting Jameer...That Lakers team was the worst matchup for the Magics...we didnt have to double Dwight and leave the shooters and he wasnt going to be as effective as he was against Illgauskas and Perkins...Lamar Odom was long enough to disrupt the Turk and Dwight pick and roll while Rashard Lewis wasnt very effective of taking Gasol off the dribble...Farmar and Shannon Brown was putting a lot of pressure on the ball coming off the bench...no matter if it was Skip, Jameer or Courtney Lee so quick dump ins to Dwight was also tough...i think all sports are about matchups but Basketball even more

      @@Wtf_Going_On First, Big Perk nor ilgaskus was on that team. Bynum was a bust and Odom was smoking crack with the Kardashian chick. And Van Gundy still couldn’t get around Kobe. And they kept talking about JJ release was too slow and couldn’t guard anyone. I was like f that, we needed a shooter who could make shots. And Rafer could penetrate like no one else on that team. Which was key, not his ability to shoot. He was good at feeding after drawing defenses attention. Lewis was on GH, so I can’t talk, but damn. Actually you made me look at the rosters, I’m embarrassed that we arguing about this. That was probably the worst group of players ever to play in the finals. Where the hell was D Wade and Shaq, or Lebron or San Antonio? Man s-it, you win. I just remember being disappointed, now I feel like we are arguing about pop Warner league. LoL

    I agree with most of what y'all had to say I will add that player "mannerisms" also affect everything as well. Head down, shaking head, not getting back on D, throwing hands up in the air, etc etc. Body language and Mannerisms are a very overlooked aspect in team sports in general. If a teammate takes a bad shot and you're the best player but you shake your head or look disgusted...that rubs off on the other role players. You can't do that.
