Art is inspiration. No one is ever original. But as I heard before, “be inspired so much that you become all your inspirations molded into one”
    Monte Booker does this perfectly

Timbaland and Pharell are original, no one sounded like them before them.

Still Timbo and Pharell got there inspiration and ideas from somewhere else and they made it in there own way. For example Timbo started copying Devante Swing's style in the early years of his career and out of that he developed his own sound. No one is original at the end of the day we all learn from each other and make our own style of it:)

Everyone steals in a way Aristotle said all art is imitation and hip hop history is also started with the sampling.

the reason I started making music was to replicate the feeling I get from my favourite music. It my main motivator

great video, this sort of mindset is what separates people who are in this to say they are in this and real artistic innovators. a lot will overlook this information but this is some of the best advanced production advice for people who have all the technical stuff down.

Everything Is A Copy is a good documentary that touches on this topic, and a book called "Steal Like An Artist"

i think ive done this for some time sub consciously and only recently have noticed it. realize that somebody Pharrell probably doesnt TRY to do what he does (understand the feeling) in the interview hes just trying to explain it as best he can. take this as a "oh thats what they do and thats possible" dont go thinking that FOLLOWING these steps are gonna make your song SOUND or FEEL good. just take it as a possibility. It isnt about what you hear, its about what the thing youre hearing makes you feel and why it is doing that. to me if you go listen to a song RN and try to then recreate the feeling it wont work (atleast for me) because you are so focused into the sounds that they used that you are distracted from naturally finding the feeling. it usually feels nostalgic and like youre remembering something when you make a song or beat that feels like something youve heard yesterday or 5 years ago....thats just my opinion ofc

This is partially right to say the new genre of shutter house is not original would be pretty ignorant but in trap music a lot of cookie cutter shit going on and not much imagination like in electronic music
