To me Pharrell is better at melody and drums but Kanye’s sampling is genius it’s a tough matchup. However overall I think Pharrell is the better producer I feel like he embodies what it truly means to be a music producer
Both are dope in its own ways, it shouldn't be judged like 0-1 theyre differently dope. It's not sport when you can be clearly faster or stronger than someone, art is different
Pharrell is a musician who has studied music theory. That's the core difference to their approach. Pharrell has the blend of technical knowledge and understanding with feel and emotion. Kanye is more of a "find his way in the dark" kind of producer.
Its more of a like Nature vs Nurture argument, Kanye is more on the soul, he's oftentimes brazen with his sounds and uncanny but in some weird ways, it sounds raw, and it feels like the music itself is an identity of its own. he's producer style is "free and naturalistic." Pharell on the other hand is methodical, a scientist. his part on the album feels fixed and complex. he's versatile but in a way that there's a set of rules in order to make Sound A sounds like Sound A. And it's that way Pharell's sounds so fucking cool like "ohh shitt thats fucking dope that chord A is in correlation with the kicks etc." It's like a Robot. It can do a lot of things that humans can take a lot of days to complete due to the limits of the human body in just one day or less. With Kanye, you feel, With Pharell, you analyze.
Kanye West makes hot beats however he samples meaning he needs music to create his sound. Pharrell on the other hand is musically inclined musician also makes hot beats. If you talking about who's a better produces it would have to be Pharrell because he doesn't need sample to create music.
in my opinion pharrell and ye werent really at their height on it's almost dry imo. plus pharrell produced most of his songs solo, whereas ye had co-producers.
@@chrispo7610even before Late Registration, Ye has almost always been a collaborator when it comes to art. It’s the reason he’s still a relevant artist today, he’s not afraid to work with new artists and producers throughout time to put his own spin on trending sounds.
pharrell is technical and tends to stick to rules because he knows music theory. ye doesn't know music theory so he doesn't follow the rules of music which gives ye that distinct sound. ye also knows how to sample wayyyy better than pharrell and how to manipulate it while pharrell knows how to construct complex melodies. pharrell melodies are unique, ye's samples are unique. two very different approaches but i will always love ye because it's just in his mind and workflow to break the rules and do what he thinks sounds the best instead of what the industry thinks sounds the best.
Just look at their discographies, not even a match there’s practically no discography in mainstream music that comes close to Ye's but Radiohead, Kendrick and a few more
Pharrell is more of a producer than a solo artist. While ye is the contrary, while he has produced a lot of songs for other artist, all of his best work is on his own projects
Timbaland stands above both of them in terms of producing music for other artists. Kanye has the better personal discography among the 3. Pharrell still one of the greats (even without Chad Hugo) but the other 2 edges him out.

Hell yeah the purpose of this video is to present both production styles
That is true but if you took both produces and go back in the days who would survive.
