Hi David, I bought 2 similar sound kits with winch sometime back. And it couldn’t work now not sure why. You have tutorial on it? Maybe my connections burnt when I’m testing it.
unfortunately without the part in my hands for me to inspect it would be really hard to point yoy in the right direction. These are some things you can try. Check all your wiring for good connection. Then check your batteries to make sure you don't have bad cells. Make sure the transmitter and esc bind when turning them on.
Thanks for the walkthrough! I’m after a C24KM but can’t decide how best to spec it. Really just want to use my Flysky GT3C TX but think that precludes using the all in one WPL soundboard/ESC combo since I couldn’t bind to it?
yeah they have there own protocol so it won't bind to flysky. Honestly unless you get a good 30a esc made for crawling or shove a 1060 or 1080 in there the WPL V3 board is the most linear and powerful combo for these little rigs. I personally don't like the look of the WPL controller and would rather have a proper looking tx but I can't deny how good the V3 esc sound kit is so i use it.
unfortunately it will not plug into the wpl unit. That system was designed to work with the mn board only. the easiest way would be to just get new led light kit or led wired up to plug into the individual ports on the WPL unit.
@@zidbigdaddy137 I haven't purchased any light kits yet so I can't really recommend any specific ones. Just browse online and get some leds that would fit the light ports of the wpl unit. Sorry I can't help more on this subject.
I probably won't be doing a axle mounted servo. I know it does improve steering and eliminates bump steer but I didn't like it on my kyosho. Just the look of it but otherwise a good performance mod for sure. I haven't tried 3s on any of my rigs yet. Maybe I need to test these v3 and v2 boards 3s performance 🤔
@@JDLightnin that's maybe why they developed a V3 version so quickly. The V2 has very inconsistent performance from what I've heard. I haven't tried 3s on the V2 yet.
Hey I've been following your videos for a while. I just finished up my c44 build and everything works but the steering servo. Do you think the board could be bad?
What board are you using? If its the WPL v3 then try shift servo port and see if it moves the servo. It could also be a bad servo. Did you try connecting the servo the other way around or try plugging in the shift servo to see if the board or servo may be bad? I'm assuming its aC44KM version with 2 speed.
@@RunThatRC Since then I connected the servo to the stock board on my c24-1 and it still didn't work so I am assuming it's a bad servo. Do you know of any I can get on amazon that will fit? Or should I just go right through the wpl store
@@kl2085 there is a JX servo thats supposed to be a good replacement and fit. You would need to ask people on the Facebook groups. I need to do that as well because I want metal geared servos too.
Hi David, I hope all's well. I just installed the WPL RES V3 on my MN99S-A yesterday. I couldn't figure out how to connect the stock MN light board to the RES V3. Do you know how I can hook them up by any chance? I only care about the headlights, taillights and reverse lights. (I don't really care about the turn signals too much.) Also, do you know how I can keep the headlights on while the truck's on? Thanks in advance. Peter @ClassicSteelRC
Man, you really help me a lot with your ingenuity and skill in finding the best solutions. I'm presently working on two fully upgraded and 'on modeller scale details' WPL B16 and the V3 I installed on both is an outstanding choice: it gives you a proportional steering and throttle, a winch and a shifting motor options. A All-In-One solution that simplify the life of we noobs (I've just entered the dynamic modeller world after years in the static one)... Maybe you can help me with some hints on how can I add more lights to the trucks? I've got the so called Tamiya 12 LED lights kit so I already have many lights already wired to plug into the WPL board, at least the headlights, the rear light and the directional lights. Do you think I can interface this LEDs' board with the WPL V3 board or do I risk to damage the Receiver? Do you know what Voltage the WPL is outputting? That maybe an interesting video too, if you find the time to delve into these kind of matters. In any case I truly appreciate what you're doing on your workbench showing us alternative ways that are not always that obvious or just unusual, but effective. Thanks!
welcome to the RC side of models! I'm actually not sure if you can combine both units together. I know you can tie in multiple leds to the wpl board and even more than 2 leds per port but if you do more than 4 per port you will notice the lights will be dimmer. So just experiment with your led arrangement you should be able to run enough lights on the wpl board. Thanks for stopping by!
Thank you for taking the time to answer! Surely it will be much simpler to use just the WPL v3 board, if only they included a switch (I've just received another one I'm going to mount on the B16K I'm putting together) so I could test it! In the meantime I'm testing the huge 12 LEDs board using the AX5X 3Ch receiver and it makes little sense anyway... I'm not sure I gonna risk the WPL board attaching the LED board to the 3 pins connectors on the WPL's. We also have enough space under the caisson to fit that ugly box: mmmh I'm undecided! First I'd like to mount a switch on the WPL board and I'm not going to take it out from the other project... I will report back. ;) Thanks! Cheers
I report back: the so called Tamiya 12 Led Lights is NOT WORKING when you connect its 3 channels to the WPL v3 board, or just to clarify it works in a random pattern that follows no logic at all: i.e. you connect the T12LL CH1 to the WPL Steering Servo to have the directional lights, but on another receiver like FlySky or Ax5x you should follow the standard and connect the CH2 to the CH2... I suspect the WPL is not conforming to any convention, but again the T12LL is a complete mess, hardly usable even with other receivers as it follows no logic and it is hard to identify the connectors. The WPL board on the other hand is a nice all-in-one solution but I've also found some issues I hope to solve when I will fully assemble it in the new B16 I'm putting together. First of all the LED connectors on the board are too close to each other so that the wires' connectors should be thin and small: even the micro JST you have on the speaker although might have a good height it is too thick and should be heavily modified if you want to populate the full 4 LEDs' connectors. Talking about the height, I tried the standard red JST connectors and they can squeeze on the board's pins, but they are way too tall so you should have a sort of spacer to hold the board on a longer screw when mounting it upside down: those 10mm or more may also create a problem when you mount the cabin. If you have any solution, please let us know... On a side note, I was able to solder two LEDs to a single connector for the Right directional lights and it worked well. Now it remains to be seen if i.e. I can use the headlight pins to light the red tail light, so to have four LEDs; the 'Tail Light' on the board only works on reverse... Cheers
Only way I can see using all the light connections is to just directly solder them ton the pins or decase the jst. You can put the taillights with the headlights just as long as you dont add more to that circuit because the lights will get dimmer. I still have stock headlights only. I want to setup my b36 and c44 so that they fully utilize the V3 boards functions.
@@RunThatRC Hi David, I've found WPL is using another kind of connector for the LEDs in the kit: it's slimmer and shorter than the red JST and although it has 2.5mm between the holes' centers it seems to fit the 3mm LED pins on the board. I believe you can find it by searching for a '2 poles Jumper cable 2.5mm'. It's black and either with attached wires or just the cases + the metal connectors. The heights is just right, or maybe it will need just a washer under the board. I also thought of decasing the mini JST and using the thermo insulators: it may work OK. Soldering the wire directly on the pins for me it's too risky... Whenever you decide to put proper lights on your RC it would be great to see what solutions you'll find... Cheers
Great video and explanation. So just to recap; V2 is diesel (sounds like truck with air brakes) and V3 is for car? Also, that esc has only 2 leads, normally it is 3. Or am I looking it wrong? I noticed that V2 board has 3 pins sticking right next to whose normal 3x3 pins for servos. Is this connector for esc?
the v2 is the older verions and not sure if you can still purchase it. The V3 is a more polished esc receiver combo. both the V2 and V3 come in diesel or petrol(gas) versions. They use 3 pin connectors for the servo, winch and 2 speed servo for shifting the 2 speed gearbox if you have it installed.
hey there! Welcome to the WPL club. If your comfortable using and maintaining lipos then I would say lipos all the way! The lions are a little more forgiving in the maintenance and charging department so its the safer choice. A 2s lion or lipo 500 to 1500 mah is what I use and I recommend getting a hobby grade charger that charges multiple types of batteries so the charger will be useful when you decide to switch battery types.
If you are having cutting out issues with the sound you need to make sure the speaker wire isn't touching other wires and isn't close to the motor or esc. hope that helps.

@@RunThatRC cool thanks man it's in the post now hopefully not too long to wait. You're build video was great and I grabbed the v3 because of your video too. Thanks man great job
there are so many options to list so I will just mention my two most common setups. I use the WPL V3 esc receiver combo with lights and sound that includes a transmitter. That's the simple and cheaper route if you don't own any transmitters and receivers and Esc's. My other setup is flysky tx/rx and a cheap 30a esc. I have no favorite between them but am amazed at the WPL all in ones performance so far.
Hi RTR! Are all your v3 electronics got no problem? Cause my v3's voltage cutoff kicks in even my battery is still at 8v. My wpl 500mah battery cutsoff at 7.8v. but my large 4000mah 45c cuts off even its still above 8v.
I have a question, how do turn signals in V3 version, on some recordings, when driving slowly, the turn signals do not turn on, does it depend on which gear you are going on? I am waiting for my B36KM with many improvements and Sound V3, I want to make realistic lighting, I have to admit that constantly turning on the turn signals during very slow off-road driving seems irritating. Are the turn signals dependent on gear or lights? Sometimes on video you can see that the lights are on and the direction indicators are not working ...
I ordered a C24 kit and a B16 kit and ordered a WPL V2 sound board kit for the B16 and a DumboRC X5 2.4G 5CH Transmitter with X6F Receiver for the C24 but didn't order any metal upgrades for them...What metal parts kit should I order first for the C24 and the B16?
Metal driveshafts with op metal upgrade kit for both(includes axles metal oudrives and steering hub with bearings to replace all bushings). Maybe a 2 speed to make them run slow and smooth. That's the minimum for these to be a reliable trail rig imo.
@@RunThatRC any links you would recommend? there's lots of op metal kits on banggood and I'm sorta on a budget but I also know I will break these rigs with the plastic parts and there's so many different metal op kits.

If you go to wpl-rc.com you will find that they have all the kits it KM edition so those are good. If you want bigger scale the redcat gen 8 rolling chassis is a good crawler as well for a 10th scale. But that's about 160 and you need to buy a body and other parts to complete it.
With these Escs unfortunately no. I would like to use my tx with these as well. I do really like the new v2 and v3 portable, useable and works surprisingly well.
Unfortunately no on the receiver. The Esc you can use on v3 as long as it's a pwn signal esc. If you never tried the v2 or v3 then you may be surprised and be happy with the performance of those tx and sound kit combos.

its uses most of it. its pretty close. as a matter of fact my flysky system uses all of it and its not noticeable really on the trails when i drive them back to back.
@@RunThatRC cool thanks man it's in the post now hopefully not too long to wait.
You're build video was great and I grabbed the v3 because of your video too. Thanks man great job
If I buy a kit what transmitter, receiver and esc?
there are so many options to list so I will just mention my two most common setups.
My wpl 500mah battery cutsoff at 7.8v. but my large 4000mah 45c cuts off even its still above 8v.
mine have been fine. Even my v2s still work fine.
You can try and contact wpl if its defective.
Sometimes on video you can see that the lights are on and the direction indicators are not working ...
thats a good question. I will try and remember to tedt that. I dont use the turn signal function so not sure how it's set up.
How can you install the sound board? Will it work with RTR kits? Stock
adding this to a rtr will work and improve the performance. Installs where old esc receiver was.(tight fit in some models)
Does the Controller have epa for steering? My wheels have conta t with the struts.
unfortunately not. I just move the steering link up the servo horn to get less throw. Mine rub just a little at full lock and it doesn't bother me.
@@RunThatRC Thank you
I ordered a C24 kit and a B16 kit and ordered a WPL V2 sound board kit for the B16 and a DumboRC X5 2.4G 5CH Transmitter with X6F Receiver for the C24 but didn't order any metal upgrades for them...What metal parts kit should I order first for the C24 and the B16?
Metal driveshafts with op metal upgrade kit for both(includes axles metal oudrives and steering hub with bearings to replace all bushings). Maybe a 2 speed to make them run slow and smooth. That's the minimum for these to be a reliable trail rig imo.
@@RunThatRC any links you would recommend? there's lots of op metal kits on banggood and I'm sorta on a budget but I also know I will break these rigs with the plastic parts and there's so many different metal op kits.
@@12yarder2 6x6 metal parts:
www.banggood.com/custlink/KmmDs64skj Original OP metal parts upgrade with driveshafts: www.banggood.com/custlink/vGGK9J42zy I always recommend this performance upgrade: Wpl original 2 speed with 370 motor: www.banggood.com/custlink/mKDD8paQh7
Oh, btw, does this kit provide smooth steering?
the kit comes with 3 wire servo and is proportional steering.
Great video! Do you reckon if the MN99s light system works with the V3?
not plug and play but I'm sure if your willing to rewire and mod it somehow it can work. As for me I have no clue how to make it happen.
@@RunThatRC thanks for your reply! I'm going to place an order for V3 to explore further! Keep up the good work!
which sound kit do you have on B36?
Im using the WPL V3 sound kit.
Can you please suggest me some cool rc kit model. Love from 🇮🇳
what scale or size kit are you interested in?
@@RunThatRC sir it can be any size but must be less than $160
Are you looking for a kit or ready to run?
@@RunThatRC kit sir
If you like Military trucks then maybe the B36KM is a good one. If you like the Toyota trucks then the c34km and 44KM are great too. If you go to wpl-rc.com you will find that they have all the kits it KM edition so those are good. If you want bigger scale the redcat gen 8 rolling chassis is a good crawler as well for a 10th scale. But that's about 160 and you need to buy a body and other parts to complete it.
sir, should i use v3 or hobbywings 1060 for my c44km?😭
I use the V3 and like it. It's simple, works and performs well for my needs so far.
@@RunThatRC tq sir
Is there any posibility to conecct sound kit with for example GT3?
With these Escs unfortunately no. I would like to use my tx with these as well. I do really like the new v2 and v3 portable, useable and works surprisingly well.
Bro do you upgrade the tire?
On the B36KM I have the 10 wheel metal set. The mn96 has mn45 kit tires on it and the rest have stock factory tires.
Great video! One question: Can I use the V1-3 sound modules with my upgraded electronics(30A ESC + Receiver)?
Unfortunately no on the receiver. The Esc you can use on v3 as long as it's a pwn signal esc. If you never tried the v2 or v3 then you may be surprised and be happy with the performance of those tx and sound kit combos.
@@RunThatRC I just might try bringing my B24 to life with a V3 then. Thanks for the info!
@@leirameirarc you will like it.
Can I fit the v3 on a mn99s
you can but you can't use the light kit that originally came with the MN99s because thats part of its esc receiver.
Still waitin on my c44 to come in the mail. hehe, shipping from china does take a while
It really does. Well at least when you get it it's going to be that much more exciting!
Thanks !
Hope it helped.
what a Gaz-66/Ural mutant?.. and diesel... wish 66 had diesel engine
Oops, my bad. Looks like we can call it Gaz-34, it was 6x6. There were diesel modifications as well, but not 6x6 though.
