    Pretty sweet little fleet there! I like the motor sock idea and will probably do that one for sure. 2 speed with radio/receiver, softer tires, suspension and metal chassis parts already going on my C24 that's on the way. I already know it's going to be one of my favorites.

    I just picked one of these up since it seems to be a good middle ground starter truck. I've had Losi 1/24 crawlers before but their batteries are junk. I still have a couple of them and will maybe mod them. This truck however is awesome! I really like the 2 speed, rear wheel drive type thing he mentioned in this video. I may pick another one up and give it a try.

    • @RunThatRC
      @RunThatRC  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I will be putting together a video on the details of that rig soon. But the shocks are still the stock ones just kept running penetrating oil down the shock shaft over time it got better and softer. The lift is like a block kit onto the axle where the shocks and 4 link connect and I didn't thread the shocks all the way for a little more lift. I'll get that vid up soon hopefully.

    bump steer even less attaching to passenger side with a longer steering rod, with some L in it, bump steer nearly zero. have had really good luck with plastic bevel gears, they do have to be pulled apart all the way, CA bevel pinion to shaft and pressed on all the way first, then shims behind both input cover bushings (paper punch and thin cardboard CA'd in, then drilled through after), with the plastic U-joint going on last, as tight as possible without binding. newer kits have the brass bevel pinion, is *much* nicer, even with plastic ring gear.

    • @RunThatRC

    The mod about flipping the steering link in the front of the truck to help with the truck tilt during going over a bump is wrong, you need the metal upgrades for the axle. I am currently trying to do this and you wont be able to put it on top on the same side as the link to the servo as there is no where to mount it unless you just get a longer screw but that seems unstable!

    have had no problem with the plastic bevel gears, after shimming *behind* both bushings of the short input shaft. carefully pry shaft out of the small bevel gear. use a one hole paper punch for thin cardboard. use the bushings to press them down into place, then CA them. next is CA the bushings in place, then use a 3 mm drill bit to make the center hole through the bits of cardboard. with very long jawed needle nose pliers, carefully press the small bevel gear back onto the shaft. the shim behind the inside one is making tighter mesh of the plastic bevel gears, both bushings further apart the short shaft wobbles much less.
    best to do as you're assembling it right out the gate, but you can do it after, it's only 4 screws.
    if you have ball links and M3 threaded rod, whip up a steering link to hit over to the passenger/right side takes out even more bump steer, shrink tubing can hide the exposed threaded rod, a little nicer looking than throwing paint at it.

    • @RunThatRC
      @RunThatRC  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's good advice! I did all those. Even went as far as buying metal shims that fit there. Unfortunately for me I must abuse these things. A buddy and I have no Iuck with the plastic ring gear. They do last a lot longer for us after shimming but eventually strips. I have had multiple runs with my blue c24(modded from the start with metal gears) seems to have done the trick for me! I am glad that the shimming works for some! Great tips brother!🤙

    • @RunThatRC
      @RunThatRC  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Maybe the plastic gears get too hot in mine? I take it on long 3 to 6 mile hikes. Back to back battery change and no resting in between.

    • @modelnutty6503
      @modelnutty6503 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      lol naaw, that falls under heavy use and abuse! with plastics you DO have to back off the throttle as quick as the wheels start hammering, back up and alter your approach a little or you can shred them. it's usually the little bevel gear shredded for turning 2.3x per wheel turn.

      2 with the 180 and the blue one has a 370 with 2 speed. The white one was brushless but is waiting to be completed as a different project. I like both but performance I'd say C14 because of better departure angles. And less top heavy for less rollovers.

      c14 and c24 are exactly alike just a different back end. The range varies depending on your electronics. I'm running kits at the moment so im using my flysky or hobbyporter and also the V2 and V3 electronics that have good range as well. I should have a New verion rtr soon on my channel.

    • @RunThatRC
      @RunThatRC  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use a flysky or hobbyporter transmitter for most my builds and can turn down and adjust throw in each direction. When you have the wpl transmitter you can't adjust endpoints so you would need to make sure you get equal steering throw left to right then you may need to move the steering link further up the steering horn to get less throw. hope that helps

    • @RunThatRC
      @RunThatRC  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      hi there, not sure what your setup is. It definitely would help get you the right answer. Is it a stock RTR or a kit or even a KM kit? If its a RTR then you have the original gearbox with 180 motor. That setup does get warm slow crawling. When they heat up the motor mount housing warps and the motor will slip out. I like to place a piece of thin cardboard to wedge the motor to the gearbox or you can even glue it. I always recommend upgrading these for more performance. They get a lot more capable and fun for sure but still fun stock with limits obviously.

    • @RunThatRC

      @Hjerte_Verke 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also, the C24 is based on a 1979-1981 Toyota Hilux (pickup truck) which has round headlights and 4 openings in the grille. The C14 is a later truck, about 1982-1983 with rectangular headlights and 6 openings in the grille. After that, the bodies were redesigned for 1984 and up.

  • @lchan1977
    @lchan1977 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have one of them, and they are fragile ass....even modding them can be a challenge because the tolerance on machined metal parts arent that great. There is always something that isnt right with one part or two with after market stuff. I have a two speed 180 motor i think and the torque at low gear is so strong, even the metal drive train can come apart. Maybe need some thread lock glue.

    • @RunThatRC
      @RunThatRC  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      My personal experience has been better than others so far. I build the kits usually and have had little to no trouble in setting up gear mesh and parts assembly is usually done with minimal tinkering. I do remember building my first C24 and thinking this isnt going to last long. But the driveshafts where the only things i managed to break, but sometimes breaking a shaft also strips the trans gears. So now WPL does the KM line with all the upgrades you need for a solid rig included. Can't wait for the WPL official site to be back up!

Waiting for the loctite to come and hope it will fix my problems. Maybe I should check WPL's site too when it's up.
