Saving my dads EG hatch that's been sitting for 3 Years

- Not exactly sure what's wrong with the motor but has no compression on one cylinder, 540,000km on it at this point its prob best to just throw a motor in quick.
He is not in a spot to fix it and its been sitting for the last few years, So i'm going to start the process of bringing it back to life

This is crazy, my dads first car when he moved to BC was a datsun 510 but he upgraded to a second hand EG at some point in the late 90's. I inherited it two years ago and got it running again. Harvard blue pearl hatch, B18b1 swapped so far ive done coils and rear control arms and an exhaust. Best first car ever
After the severe amount of metal work I'll be doing in this car I plan to do almost the same thing next year
I love that color blue on the hatch. Great plan, i like keeping the old single cams in these sometimes they wete great cars like that for driving daily etc. Very cool.
Thats what the goal is just to enjoy this car at the end!

I’m a big fan of those eg hatchback from Honda, my friend has a eg hatch and I have a newer civic sedan.Which is a total blast even though it’s an automatic, I’m Just a general fan of Honda’s especially older one’s.
There is gonna be alot more honda content in the future!

@@salvagedmetal I bought mine new in 95, had it for 13.5 years, a friend bought it, he drives it for 3 more, then sold it to his mechanic.

Some things are gonna take longer then others but I'm not gonna give up
Just to be road worthy, it's very doable to do for 2-3k maximum.. nothing a couple cans of rustoleum paint from your local hardware store, junkyard parts, amazon parts can't do..
Honestly if the motor wasn't shot I could have driven this car home with some basic work, So i'm hoping to get it back on the road for a few hundred right now haha
Its gonna involve more labor then anything witch is fine by me
hardout, hopefully like a b22 if theres any still left out there anywhere
Not as many as there used to be and prices have skyrocketed but someday it will have one in it, gotta get the car back in decent shape first

Compression test that cylinder if it’s same as others new plug lead cap still missing swap injectior from one spot to the other if the miss moves with it that injector is rooted
We've been through it when it was parked, The cylinder is completely dead, motor is tired anyways
540K mileage dammn and still running!
And sitting for 3 years, I cant believe it started in just a couple cranks lol

I'd definitely keep it D or B series. You don't need a K series to have fun, plus that shit is stupid expensive now.
For sure, and honestly I feel like being pre 2000s is just more compatible with the chassis and feels right to me
@salvagedmetal for sure, man. Keeping it "period correct" is cooler in a world full of k swapped clapped out civics. I'll hold on to my slow D16 even if the k series fan boys shit on my car, lol.
you can’t even get a shopping cart for $500 these days
Its crazy and honda parts are getting more harder to find, I used to buy D series WITH transmission's and linkage just bolt n and go for less then $200
Now its like $500 for a ugly old motor thats been sitting under a desk haha

did you drain the fuel out of it before starting after 3 years?
No, Im surprised it ran this good, I figured it's not gonna harm anything I'm not already replacing
And I wanted to see if it would just turnkey run after all these years haha
It's gonna be drained before the first start on the new motor and a fresh fuel filter
