I've had my dyna for 8 years with no problems. I let my buddy ride it for a weekend because his bike is down rn and I had a free rental. Of course something shitty happens to it while my buddy is riding it. It's making the same sound you described so I'm draining the fluid now and will check it out tomorrow. I'm hoping it's the same simple issue you had. My buddy is a very timid rider so I know it wasn't from him beating on it, probably just bad luck. Thanks for the video.
Have an 02 heritage softail classic. Had a rythmic knock. Talked to the guy I bought it from and he said he had the exact same issue but only retorqued it to 110 ft lbs and no red loctite. Going to open it up tomorrow and hopefully this is my problem. I will take the off clean it with brake cleaner, add some red loctite, and retorque it to 150 ft lbs. Get my cholo build back on track.
@@NattyBumppo Hopefully your good now. I also heard sometimes the spring in the comp compresses and then you are actually bottoming out the bolt instead of tightening everything down. But I don't think that is really common.
@@dragkid185 ah, I could see how that might happen. Regardless, I still have that solid compensator on my shelf, so if all else fails, I’ll just throw that in haha
@@NattyBumppo I have a six-speed dyna and the compensator was causing problems when I hopped the engine up - when I engaged the starter, in order to turn the engine over the starter had to first compress the compensator spring in order to get the drive parts of the comp. to engage so as to turn the engine. That of corse took 'all available power' from the battery and made the ECU cut power to the coils. The tension in the primary windings collapsed and the secondary windings sent the induced power to the spark plugs making the engine 'kick back' and snapped the output shaft of the starter motor..... Three times ! When taking the bike out to 113 inch with reworked CVO top end (and much much more ! ) I used a solid sprocket from V-Twin and a manual chain adjuster.... as well as Easy Start cams from S&S which solved all problems, well almost.... as the 130+ bhp and torque motor seems to be in constant need of primary chain adjustment. It may be that the (aftermarket) chain is not up to it or that the tranny main bearing is gonna fail - again ! I have a twin opposed taper roller kit from Baker so it looks like yet another tranny rebuild - maybe I shouldn't ride so hard but I am only 62 and not grown-up just yet !!
I just had my 2009 street glide dino- tuned it was running rich and did a lot of sputting , he said sounds like i am getting compinsator noise but wasn't bad
@NattyBumppo no , was running rich and had a sputter when just touching the throttle, its better after the dino- tune and the power went up to 93h.p. and 109 torque
1: Nice cover. I love that thing, especially the 666 on it. That’s a nice touch. 2: I’m curious as to whether that fixed the problem. I guess I’ll either find out on IG or in your next video. 3: I hope hunting season is going good. Meat in the freezer is always nice. Thanks for the video.
Yes sir should have had two drops of red locktight..Also people don't know, when you torque them, and set up the chain tension put the cover on with about 4 bolts hand tight, start the bike about three times and immediately kill It, then take the cover back off and retorque the compensator nut..Often you'll find your first torque reading was false 👍

Yea, sometimes things just break after a while. Hope you get it figured out!

Yea man, red loctite is mandatory on that bad mofo.
I've always used red loctite on the comp bolt and clutch hub bolt. Never had one come loose on me and I don't baby my bikes.
I thought for sure i did use red when I put all this back together. Maybe not. But I did this time. Haha

Sputting or backfiring?
@NattyBumppo no , was running rich and had a sputter when just touching the throttle, its better after the dino- tune and the power went up to 93h.p. and 109 torque
any idea WHAT caused nut to back off?
Nope. It could have been me forgetting loc-tite or something. I haven’t had an issue since I retorqued it with red loc-tite

I’ll do an update video here soon. But in short, yes, that was the issue.
Been out a few times, no luck yet though!
And that cover is from Death Metal Racing. They have all sorts of cool shit.
Great video homie
Appreciate it man!
Greah video , and very informative but did it fix it ? Al way enjoy your content
Haha yea, I didn’t really sum up what happened, but yea, it fixed the issue. Thank you Jesus haha
What year is the bike?
2005 FXD
What's the verdict?
I’m going to post a follow up here soon. But yea, that was the issue lol. Thank the baby jebus.
@@NattyBumppo Saved a bunch. Thats great.
@@Jimmy_Jim_Jim_1234 yessir!
You didn't say if that corrected the problem
It did
Should have used red loctite on that bolt otherwise it will come loose again.
Thanks for watching. Be sure to subscribe.

Nut was loose. Common issue
Good job Sherlock.
Great video but you don't need that music
Thanks. And yes I do.
@@NattyBumppo Great video and I like the music.
