Fixing a Bricked PSP 1000 - PCB Removal & Replacement

- In this video I fixed up this PSP 1000. It wouldn't turn on at first but then it did but would just freeze up and die so I removed the motherboard to give it a clean but that ended up not working, so that's when I decided to just swap it out for a spare board I had. After the new board was in it worked perfectly. Thank you for watching! Please like if you enjoyed and subscribe for more weekly videos! Thank you!

Definitely a helpful video, man...
Got a challenge for ya - have a 1001 series PSP that no longer has a power button switch (button is gone completely)
Think you'd be up for a fix? Can send to you and pay among completion if you're up for the task that is :)
Love the videos, they teach me very valuable lessons lol

@@TheBygoneEra hit you up on IG, my man! Hope to hear from ya soon
Thanks man... I bought a used psp 1000 on marketplace cuz my old one was making the grinding noise for the umd drive... And the top plate was broken with the screws in it... So jus figure not to waste time and got another one... Now that one is doing what ur psp was doing... So my old one still works I figured I just switch the motherboard... My old one is busted up... Figure I fallow ur tutorial and get this one up and running....
I’m glad I could help, good luck with the swap!
today i decided to dig up my psp street (e1004) and had EXACTLY the same symptoms as your psp in the video
at first i tried to disconnect the battery
didnt help
then i took the screen off and tried it for fun if it would power up
and yes it did :D and i was so hyped that i fixed it after these years
but after setting the date and time the console just froze at the quick start or whatever menu amd shut off
then i couldnt turn it on anymore
so i took it apart again and with the faceplate snapped off dangling there it powered on again?????
then i tried powering off the console an back on again and it didnt turn on anymore at all
the green led just stayed illuminated forever until i put my memorycard in for fun
then this blue error screen popped up saying settings information corrupted
after that it worked but didnt turn on ever after
ive been thinking about buying a broken psp street on ebay with a cracked screen or something to scavenge parts off
or should i just buy a used 3000 instead?
edit: i bought a broken e1004 street on ebay with a cracked screen for 18€, might just change a good screen into it if the shell is still good
also i dont get why people call this "bricked", its also funny how people suggest to change the battery etc, the battery to my knowledge doesnt have any circuitry build into it on the e1004
and every single forum page tells you to press a specific button combination, those do not work, the stock psp rom doesnt have any of that funcionality only modded roms do.
i would be very interested to find a fix to this corruption issue
The only fix I’ve had for this issue is to replace the entire board like I did in this video haha
If mine doesn't work, it's gonna be a cool fun thing for me to do when i'm bored
nice video :) maybe you can use a pandora battery though, but u need a working psp to set it up :/
Thank you! I don’t really know much about pandora batteries, but I just did a quick bit of research and I think you’re right. I guess I just fixed it the hard way haha
@@TheBygoneEra yeah my riend also had a broken psp that he thought was dead forever until he bought a pandora battery on ebay
I might have to buy one too haha
dont' want to be mean, but.. why didn't you try a pandora battery + magis memory stick to unbrick it before replacing the main board?
I honestly don’t know a whole lot about pandora batteries, but for me this was an easier solution that was guaranteed to work haha
when I power the psp on it stays blank screen then the green light goes back off. What could this be please?
Could be multiple things. Could be battery, software or hardware issue, maybe a short circuit on the board, faulty power button

Hello! I have a PSP with a very similar issue. I’ve read online about the Pandora battery/MMS technique and am wondering if that could work. However, I’m afraid a potential issue with the PSP motherboard would mean the Pandora battery strategy would be ineffectual. What do you think?
I honestly don’t know a whole lot about pandora batteries, but for me this was an easier solution that was guaranteed to work haha. If you have a pandora battery it wouldn’t hurt to try, but unfortunately I don’t know enough about them to offer any more help. Best of luck!
what if someone had CFW on that psp then you cannot do the steps like you did you got lucky with it
I think custom firmware is what ruined this psp to begin with
Great video!! What game were u playin at the end
Thank you! That one is Coded Arms
I have a similar problem in the last guys comment black screen green light goes on we're a few seconds then turns off I've cleaned the board checked for loose solder joints or cracked solder joints nothing can't figure it out
These PSP’s can be real finicky sometimes and it could be a bunch of different issues. It might even be a hardware issue
@@TheBygoneEra it had custom firmware on it but I was not aware of it at the time I'm pretty sure the previous owner may have overclocked the CPU's so I am currently going to try to install custom firmware to access the processing menu
Have ypu tried a pandora battery before replacing the mother board?
I honestly don’t know a whole lot about pandora batteries, but for me this was an easier solution that was guaranteed to fix the issue haha
@@TheBygoneEra do you still have the motherboard?
Can you help me with my psp its not turning on
Sorry for the late reply. I’d first check to make sure the battery or power pack are working, try turning it on with no memory card in it, then I’d try a hard reset. You can Google the button combo for a hard reset
I would replace the entire housing
It could do with a new screen lens at least but unfortunately they’re not easy to replace unless you swap out the whole faceplate. The aftermarket stuff is just nowhere near as good quality
@@TheBygoneEra Have you found any aftermarket shells that are at least functionally ok?
I don't expect original sony quality but for example I got one recently and the screws are horrible (very easy to strip), the battery cover doesnt fit right (had to sand it) and screw holes missing which makes the front and back sit less tight.
I’ve only bought and used one but is was horrible. The ring on the back had lifted, the memory card slot disintegrated, UMD door wouldn’t close properly, switches didn’t slide properly, and it just didn’t sit flush when it was closed. It was so bad I haven’t bought another one since haha
My psp turns on but it’s stuck on the 1:33 screen :/
Sounds like a software issue
