At 8:21 when you said this should work... i checked how much of the video was left... and to be frank I was happy to see that there was alot more to it.. although i know you had to work more on it... which is not so good for you.. but that ment there was more to be seen of your amazing work... Its always a joy to watch your videos..
Awesome job! Thanks to your channel, you got me interested in learning how to solder/de-solder and fix some of my broken controllers. I'm about 2 months into the journey and have fixed over 10x Xbox One / Series controllers, including 5x Elite Series 2 controllers. Just fixed my first PS5 Dualsense controller last week and plan to expand into doing more of those and some retro console modding. Cheers!
You know what's funny I was searching for some configuration cables for my car and how to put it together, and I ended up finding you, and now I can't stop watching.
Good timing! I was just using my special edition Hatsune Miku, PSP today. Replacing the battery is easy but these battery mods are a great way to break things.
I saved the iFixit Pro Tech Toolkit to my Amazon list. I have another kit but not like that one with the electronic grounding wrist strap. I used to have one of those but lost it.
My god of war 2000 has a umd drive problem, I think it’s the little black clip button thing on the motherboard. I find replacing these small piece tedious. This video was very helpful ! 👍😌
Like how you exhausted every option before replacing the display and the mobo. I'm sure there is still hope for the mobo and lcd if you can figure how to get the backlight working.
Did he ever try the new screen on the original board? I know the replaced clip wasn't going to close, but one of the big problems here appears to have been the screen itself, which I think was only tried using the replacement board.
Ahh I have the same one that survived a house fire! Wish it still worked as it was part of my childhood. It was literally one of the only things to survive our house fire. I hid it in a clothes basket from my siblings the night of the disaster and the water from the fire trucks soaked the clothes and kept it in pretty good cosmetic condition.
I would have loved to See the old Board without the connector and the ribbon cable directly soldered to the Board. The bridge you created looked strong enough.
Good work getting it fixed. I can't believe all you had to do was replace was the screen, the board, the battery, some of the ribbons, and a few of the screws 😂

Absolutely love my IFixIt kit. I have the same one he showed in the video, and it's come in handy so many times. Also, I had a pad on the tweezers break off, and IFixIt replaced it with no issues. Highly recommend. Now, I want to go buy a PSP.
Love it. I still got 2 of these PSPs. One works legit. Other I fixed myself after I got a new 1. Also great tip on batteries. Those 3rd party ones r awful. Some say it fits but actually too big for the PSP model.
Steve, is it possible that freezing the donor connector before soldering could lower the chances of melting the plastic when soldering? Great content as always 👏 we're praying for your fight with lymphoma. Kick its ass buddy
Next time, just shave down those solder joints, and the ribbon will slip right in. And if special board comes with a chipset RF shield, move it to the new board. Idea is to keep it stock, much as you can anyway. I'm subbing your channel. You still get a thumbs-up in my book.👍😉🛠
Always like when you work on older hardware. Never owned a PSP when they were new, but I respect it for being the only real challenger Nintendo ever had in the market. Lol, sorry Sega but Game Gear wasn't up to snuff.
I still use my PSP from time to time, great for playing GameBoy or C64 games :-) Only thing is the battery is always completely empty after a week just lying around...
Hello, I wanted to lubricate my gears because they were making noise. After assembly, the resolution is much more pixelated. I hope I didn't damage any ribbon cables. or is there a connection point that can be easily loosened when the display is folded out?
At 4 mins, the connector that has a piece of broken plastic. Does the plastic parts outside the dark blue lanes that it is sitting on also have some importane? Is there wires or something inside that little piece that broke of? Or could it have worked even though a bit of plastics was removed if you for exempel dont have or can find spare parts.
Hi, I have AC adopters that are beeping, they are LED light power adopters. They both started beeping same time and won't power the lights. Do you know what could be a problem? is there an easy fix for it?
In hindsight Sony should’ve put the special decals on the opposite side of the back of the psp. But the fun thing I use to do is swap the battery backs on my psp
I found this fascinating, even though it gives me flashbacks to Lenovo's horrible m.2 SSD cable that breaks more easily than, say, an m.2 slot on a motherboard might... but anyway, I have to wonder, what was left of the old PSP? Just the case (including controllers) and UMD?
Had my psp in a draw for awhile. Decided to take a look, saw the back case wasnt on. Thought it was weird its prestine..... the battery was bulging like 8 month pregnant lady. Scary
What is a cmos battery? my psp 3000 only last 2 hours and then gone. The time and date keeps resetting 😩😢. Today is August 10th 2023 2:14 in morning lol 😂
Hey I was wondering if u know someone that can fix a PS3 yellow light of death 60gb console. I am assuming it needs to be reflowed or re balled can u please point me in the right direction that I can trust to fix it
Hey tonics just got a new psp from a buddy he found in a storage but doesn’t have a charger for it. I ordered two(psp-1001) chargers from Amazon but I don’t know if they were the correct ones or what because it seemed a bit long and would come right out. So I’m wondering if you know where to get an original or a replacement that actually works or if it’s my port itself?
It’s just amazing how big the microscope makes these parts look often people don’t realise that when watching a fix it video they think it’s big and easy but that’s when inexperienced people make the mistakes because they don’t realise it’s a microscope making the parts look big
I need help I have a psp and a switch and was wondering if there's any way to fix the joy stick without replacing it so that I can still use the original ones Please and thank you
Funny story. I had a Ghost of Sparta PSP. I accidentally broke it, trying to replace part of the housing. That particular model is notorious for paint coming off. A month later on market place I got this GoW PSP for $40 😆
sir steve...i want to share this information to you... regarding the screen youve replaced or the extra screen that the seller add-on in the package..is it original or aftermarket?... because there is a difference between the original and the after market... the BOTTOM DARK AREA of the after market screen is much higher and because of that the image of PSP's screen is CUT OFF...its not fully displayed so whenever you gonna play some games with some informations are displayed below like almost right to the edge of the screen you will not see all of it... SO i suggest is to scrap some parts of the old or junk or unrepairable PSP's but with good condition lcd screens or other parts...im telling this because i bought one on online shop and the seller is from CHINA and i was dissappointed...so my next move was to find one in FB market place a junk PSP 3000 with a good LCD...thankfully i was able to find one and repaired my own PSP....and thats what im using now.... if you want some proofs,,, if you have a personal use PSP 2000's or 3000's you can use that as a guide to check the differences between the original and the aftermarket lcd..so maybe in the future whenever you will receive another faulty PSP with screen problem this info might come in handy for you sir....anyways,,, always love your video sir and looking forward for more....
Maybe you missed the button to press to release the battery cover? i mean you did eventually get it off but popping it like that is never a good thing to do. which is why there is an open button on the end.
I appreciate showing us the entire process, failures and all. You're a champion.
This man is amazing. The precision of a surgeon with that soldering iron and steady hand.

These things were ahead of their time! Man I wish I could find my old PSP. I still have a Vita but it's not the same!
👍PSP was great. Vita was trash!
These were/are so cool!
@@alexhunter0815 Vita can do everything psp can and more.
i still have it, still works since 2007, at that time there was no concept of stick drift wow

Even though I don't have most of the items you repair in your videos I pick up useful tips for working on my own hardware.
That’s the way to go about it! I built my hardware repair collection over 3-4 years and i still add from time to time
I love how this was essentially a shell replacement when you look at it XD
Love the video tho, will help me cuz im doing a PSP diagnosis right now
Good timing! I was just using my special edition Hatsune Miku, PSP today. Replacing the battery is easy but these battery mods are a great way to break things.
Man the nostalgia!! You took me back.
Glad Steve is still giving the PSP world some love!!! Great vid!!
I need to get one of those board holders! Great repair!
They're expensive but really nice to have
such a bummer that first connector didn't work! Glad you got it sorted
I'm so proud muhaha I did this repair half a year ago and now I see you do it like i did. I used a heat gun though and just blasted the under side.
*Bro really is tronics fix everything*
Am gonna read this as “ bro, tronics really fixes everything “ 😅
@@geraldkimera Thank you for the translation 😅
That's because he studied. There is a difference between professionals and amateurs.
Not true at all. He regularly fails to fix many consoles.
He is an experienced replace component repair person.
That is one sexy looking PSP for sure! Happy Friday Steve and thanks again for the cool video like every week! 🍻
Yes, it's cool one! Glad you're enjoying them!
It's nice to see a REAL repair on a PSP as opposed to those annoying fake ones that are always covered in mud.
see the skill with which you do things is amazing, cheers!
Whenever this man post I just get my bag of cool ranch Doritos and sit down and start watching
Lol, awesome! So glad these are enjoyable!
Dude I JUST repaired my PSP about 4 days ago and thought "How cool would it be if Tronics made a PSP repair video". No waaaaay.
Nice save Steve, stops one more going to the scrapheap
I saved the iFixit Pro Tech Toolkit to my Amazon list. I have another kit but not like that one with the electronic grounding wrist strap. I used to have one of those but lost it.
Another great fix !! I think that's an aftermarket shell not the original you can tell by the quality of te plastic and the off colour markings on it
My god of war 2000 has a umd drive problem, I think it’s the little black clip button thing on the motherboard. I find replacing these small piece tedious.
This video was very helpful ! 👍😌
I have a few PSP including this God Of War model. Nice job saving another classic.
That board is also good so maybe save it for a future fix and swap the conector if needed, great video :D
I just dusted off my PSP 1001, swapped in an IPS screen, and ordered a couple replacement shells to play with. It is still a cool system!
That sounds amazing!
I wouldnt bother with replacement shells, unless your original shell is scratched to hell
A Vita is far and away the better PSP. if you’re really into it.
Like how you exhausted every option before replacing the display and the mobo. I'm sure there is still hope for the mobo and lcd if you can figure how to get the backlight working.
Damn that was a tedious job. Great job man.
Great job !! Those connections are super breakable lol. I have a psp go for you if interested Never saw them on your channel 😊
Did he ever try the new screen on the original board? I know the replaced clip wasn't going to close, but one of the big problems here appears to have been the screen itself, which I think was only tried using the replacement board.

These ribbon cable connectors breaking is something that ive seen alot on PSP's, makes you wonder if theyre just cheaply mounted/made.
Does the PSP have a backlight fuse? Maybe that was the initial problem, that the fuse was broken by overvoltage from the aftermarket battery.
Always like when you work on older hardware. Never owned a PSP when they were new, but I respect it for being the only real challenger Nintendo ever had in the market.
Lol, sorry Sega but Game Gear wasn't up to snuff.
Where do you sell the stuff you fix? Do you have an ebay store? Id definitely buy something to support. Knowing you actually refurbish your products
Ah the PSP is one of my favorite consoles! Wonderful device.
I still use my PSP from time to time, great for playing GameBoy or C64 games :-) Only thing is the battery is always completely empty after a week just lying around...
Do the sellers ever message you after you post a video of you fixing the sale still adamant that they didn’t do what they did?
Word of advice. Cut a thin plastic square and shimmy it in abobe ribbon cable.
It will hold cable down very well
Great job as always!
"Didn't have time to fix it" ah yes, just like when someone brings in a trainwreck of a "repaired" car to the shop and says that another shop did it.
I too broked a conector on a switch joycon, I don't have a spare motherboard, so can I solder the flex cable to the motherboard?

An advice for future PSP repair videos: The PSP doesn't need to have a battery installed to turn on, just the power connector is enough.

Psps have a backlight fuse that is very prone to blowing. I'm pretty sure that was the problem, and thought it would be from the get go.
Good stuff man
How does one screw up a battery replacement?😅
HOW he doesn't even need to take anything apart the battery is right there so easy to replace
