Great video on a topic in need of discussion and understanding. I’ve been pre diabetic for some time and do not even own any processed white, brown, turbinado or other cane sugar. I avoid sugar like the plague. However when I’ve tried whole dates, dates syrup or date sugar in baked goods or even a drink, even just 1 date spikes my blood sugar and causes a cascade of effects whereas I have none of this with pure powdered leaf stevia. I have experienced the body confusion Dr Gregor described but from liquid glycerin or alcohol or flavored stevia. I just lowered the amount of that stevia or eliminated it and only used the pure powder for a day or 2 and my body adjusted. I think more studies are needed on whole fruit sugar impact versus pure green leaf powder stevia.
May I suggest to not consume any fats for a while. Your blood is think because of the fat running through your veins. The sugar cannot be absorbed by your cells because of the gym at flowing in your blood. I was type 2 diabetic and was able to reverse it by cleaning out my body with green juice and berries
What do you mean about what you changed in what type and amount of Stevia you use? I also have always heard that dried fruit like Dates which are one, * increase* blood sugar levels so I really would be afraid to use it. I have used Aspartame for over 25 years without any problems. But because there have been recent conflicting studies on health effects I have been using liquid Stevia for a while in unsweetened powdered drinks and hot and in cold tea and only occasionally still use Aspartame.
Blood sugar levels are supposed to increase when you eat carbs and sugars, but not to unhealthy levels. My blood sugar increases when I eat dates, sweet potatoes, apples, beans, and lots of other healthy foods, but this is normal, and my body secretes the right amount of insulin to keep my blood sugar at a safe level. It's when your insulin sensitivity becomes compromised that the issues arise. It's nothing wrong with healthy foods moderately raising blood sugar levels in a person with healthy insulin sensitivity, it's people with poor insulin sensitivity that have problems. I was once pre-diabetic and couldn't eat dates without my blood sugar raising to high levels. However, the problem wasn't the dates, it was my health. Once I started eating much healthier foods AND exercising daily, I was then able to eat dates without any blood sugar issues. I held my TOTAL DIET accountable rather than blaming individual foods that exacerbated the problem that my OVERALL DIET and LACK of EXERCISE created. I am not a healthcare professional, I am just relaying my personal experience and knowledge on this topic. Please consult your healthcare provider before making any changes to your diet.
@@healthyveganeating Bingo, it's the saturated fat (mainly from animal foods/processed foods), that build up in the cells (esp muscle/liver cells), and this fat, called Intramyocellular lipids (IML) essentially blocks the insulin receptors from functioning properly, causing insulin resistance. As a result, blood sugar (HA1C) rises over time, leading to pre diabetes and diabetes. The spikes in blood sugar will be less drastic with Whole Plant Foods, because of the fiber, phytonutrients/antioxidants, etc., but as the OP of this thread continues to minimize the animal products, the blood sugar will come down normally over time!
Thanks Javant for asking these questions. I think you are an amazing God-send. May He continue to bless you to continue to bless us with healthy recipes to replace our unhealthy everyday items we have grown acustom to love. You are the Rock Star in my vegan kitchen!
I am so glad this stevia and monk fruit is clarified. Whenever there is something sweetened with monk fruit or Stevia I get an immediate response on my tongue that detects both as if I had eaten artificial sweetener aspartame. My taste cannot tolerate it. I purchased a protein powder and read the ingredients but did not see stevia until the bagel arrived. But there were no returns possible. I am out $45 for something I cannot swallow. They should really change that advertising on stevia and monk fruit. After this discusión I will be buying date sugar. Do you know if beet sugar is acceptable? I don’t use it mainly because unit is really sweet and it was rock sugar instead of granulated. Thank you for having this clarification on these sugars. Great interview and info. Thank you!
You should consider buying the protein powder I use. It is very clean and has no stevia. My conclusion from the studies and info that I have been privy to is that Dates are the healthiest sweetener of all. So, why not just use dates, date paste, and dehydrated date sugar to sweeten everything? It's general curiosity, I like to compare the impact of any ingredient I'm familiar with. @@gcrichman53 it depends on what you mean by ‘more’… dried fruit has the water taken out, so it weighs less, is more concentrated than fresh. The only reason I can see that canned might have less sugar is if the sugars are dissolved in the water used in canning then discarded by the consumer. Frozen fruit should be relatively equivalent to fresh unless sugar is added during processing.

Hello Mr. Javant, I thought I had watched everything you have out, but somehow I missed this one. The reason I find this video is because I was looking for your date paste recipe. I know that I have seen it out there before, but I can't find it now. I just need to know how much water and number of dates to use. Last time I tried it, I think I used too much water. Help please 😊

I am mindful to never give green lights to people with health challenges regarding what is safe to eat. There are lots of diabetics and pre diabetics, and many have different levels of tolerance for carbs, fats, and sugar. For me to label my recipes safe in general would be careless and potentially dangerous. What I can say is that the research that I have done, as well as my own experience of transitioning from pre diabetic to excellent insulin sensitivity, clearly points to dates as being the healthiest way to sweeten things. Having said this, it's possible to overdo it even when eating foods sweetened with dates.
I love medjool dates instead of eating candy this is an healtier substitute. I eat it sometimes with almond nuts in between which gives it a nicer taste. What about agave?
I'm not sure what your situation with inflammation is, and I am always hesitant to inadvertently give green lights to people regarding what they can and can't eat. I don't think dates would be a cause of inflammation in general, but I urge you to consult your healthcare provider regarding this.
I can consume dates and natural maple syrup and ironically I can consume NutraSweet because my system likes one of the amino acid elements in it. However I cannot do honey or Stevia or Cane sugar because they are a grass and my system is intolerant of all grasses, including lemongrass tea. 🤷♀️😃
I use organic erythritol when I'm trying to be on a keto diet and/or when I'm coming for someone with diabetes. I also sub out brown sugar for coconut sugar in my baking recipes. Both have similar effects as date sugar because they are both made from fruits. Most erythritol I buy are made from pears. Now, the things with stevia or monk fruit sugars, just make sure you get the 100% kind and not the blends with all of the extra additives. Also make sure you follow the recommended servings guidelines. Anyways, when I'm on a keto diet, I don't experience these cravings the doctor talks about. The sugar alternative for me has been erythritol. If you ever do a follow up with him, please do ask about coconut and erythritol sugars.
Oh my! I'm going to have to look into that. I'm the meantime, if you have the link and/or exact title and publish date of said article, please reply with said info . I'd love to give it a read. @@gcrichman53

One of the worst, to my knowledge. Can potentially cause liver issues.
@@healthyveganeating really? Oooh it comes from.a plant.
@@C.L.B-c6mcocaine and heroin also come from a plant, lots of plant things that are toxic for us!
What about 100% organic date syrup?
It works, but the whole, paste, and dehydrated are the best choices.
How about coconut sugar? Would that be the same concept as date sugar?
Not as healthy as date sugar.
I use a bit of date syrup in my morning espresso. It's just dates cooked down to a syrup.
👌🏾
Thank you!
You're welcome!
What's the best sugar substitute for diabetes
Dates are the healthiest sweetener
Already a subscriber, liked and commented. Great snack, thanks for sharing 🙏🏼
Thanks and welcome
What about figs?
Stevia and monk fruit in moderation? What’s moderate? What about coconut sugar?
I don't use any of the three.
Are bananas a good or bad sweetener?
Does dates cause your inflammation to get inflamed?
I'm not sure what your situation with inflammation is, and I am always hesitant to inadvertently give green lights to people regarding what they can and can't eat. I don't think dates would be a cause of inflammation in general, but I urge you to consult your healthcare provider regarding this.
Can diabetics eat Dates and Date sugar because dried fruit has more sugar than fresh, frozen and canned.
See my previous response to your earlier message.
Any info on agave syrup?
Horrible, in my opinion, and potentially causes serious liver issues.
@@healthyveganeating wow, thank you! I never knew
And thank you great content!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I can consume dates and natural maple syrup and ironically I can consume NutraSweet because my system likes one of the amino acid elements in it. However I cannot do honey or Stevia or Cane sugar because they are a grass and my system is intolerant of all grasses, including lemongrass tea. 🤷♀️😃
👌🏾
I have read articles where dieticians and nutritionists have recommended Stevia and Monk fruit as safe and also Alloluse what about this?
Dates are easily superior, but I encourage everyone to make their own decisions based on what resonates with them.
Love this!
Glad to hear that!
Awesome ❤❤❤ my two favorites
😊
What about Blackstrap Molasses?
I would rate it second only to dates
@@healthyveganeating Thank you so much for all that you share. You have helped me tremendously.
You're welcome 🙂
Interesting never heard of date sugar until now: was not on my radar.
Yes, it's a great option 👌🏾
There was a major health study from The Cleveland Clinic in 2023 that found that Erythritol increases blood pressure, strokes and heart attacks!
Oh my! I'm going to have to look into that.
I'm the meantime, if you have the link and/or exact title and publish date of said article, please reply with said info . I'd love to give it a read.

But still not good for type 2 and or hybrid/ double diabetes, my endo has me on only berries, 0 added sugar. Don't do any of the monk, stevia. Erythritol, alluose either. I now think squash tastes so sweet. Butter tastes like heaven, lol My health is so improved!
A diabetic eating butter?!! Okay 🤷🏾♂️
What about the coconut sugar?
I don't use it, dates are much healthier👌🏾
What about agave? I switch between dates and agave.
Agave is one of the worst. It could potentially cause liver issues if eaten frequently.
@@healthyveganeating oh wow 😳 thanks for the response and information.
My blood sugar dropped 10 points when I switched to dates as a sweetener!!! Use maple syrup sparingly
👌🏾
This might sound crazy but I look at raisins as a date could raises be considered a good sweetener. I do recognize that they are two different fruits.
I know a lot of content creators that use raisins. :) Any kind of fruit is fair game!
Yes, you could use raisins, but dates are better.
@02:00 Comparisons 💚
👌🏾
❤ I ABSOLUTELY FREAKIN LOVE THIS ❤
Thank you! 🙏🏾
Wait does powdered dates dissolve in tea or coffee?
It doesn't actually dissolve, but it's fine like powder.
🏆 Great Video
Thanks!
What about alulose
Dates are the best 🔥
Yes!
@@healthyveganeating Honestly, they're the only way I can get a calorie surplus during a lean-bulking phase while eating a whole-food diet. I might eat 300-500 calories of dates a day depending on my activity level :) Is that how you bulk also?
What about coconut sugar?
Not a good choice, in my opinion
@healthyveganeating I use coconut sugar, is it not as healthy as claimed?
I love Dates!!!
That makes two of us!!
Lol I just ate 5 dates. So goooood!
