The NoviGrad by description sounds like Novgorod aka New Town in Russia. City ruled by elected council or by a hired Konung/Knjaz , that was built around trade. But ingame it looks nowhere close to what city looks like.
@@jonathansoko1085 Lol no they didn't. The two chracters have surface level similarities at best. They both have white hair, both are swordsmen and both use potions, wow how similar not like there aren't hundreds of other chracters like that. Oh wait.
It's loosely based on Gdansk and Wrocław in Poland and a few other cities in East and Central Europe. Several cities and towns in Croatia are called Novigrad aswell.
I'm playing The Witcher 3 for the first time (never read the novels or played the previous games) and I was impressed with the size of Novigrad in the game. Skyrim cities don't even compare.
Novigrad, or Novi Grad, means "Newtown", "Newcity", or "Newcastle" in various Slavic languages, and it is the name of different cities in various Slavic countries (such as Novigrad, Croatia).
If the fire of Novigrad is indeed eternal, then so is that shadows that that fire casts. Toss a coin to your Witcher, for they are the only free people in the free city of Novigrad.
A blurring of the line between secular and religious authority turning a prosperous democratic society into a police state where violence is inflicted upon the perceived other? Witcher needs to stop being this realistic, man it's starting to get scary.
This is the essence of what made Novigrad and the Northern Realms in general feel like living worlds; there may be vast and sweeping acts of history taking place now, but it has been here long before what is taking place now, and will be here long after the events of now are all but forgotten.
The association between the Pope and the Templars wasn't as close as many think. They were a fairly independent organisation, though they had church support for a long while.
I wish the great Empress Ciri, trueborn daughter of Emhyrs great luck in her attempt to civilize this northern mafia state. It will take hanging every member of the cult of fire, and the burning of the crime lords but if anyone can bring enlightenment to the north it would be the union of the elder blood and the blood of Nilfgaard.
im surprised you didnt mention that the city was built on a land previously occupied by the dopplers who were nearly wiped out by the founders of novigrad

Fun fact: there are multiple towns in Croatia called Novigrad, which in Slavic languages means New City or New town.
I didn't know that was even a real name. Fascinating

Novigrad was one of the few video game cities that actually felt alive while you were exploring it. CDProjekt did such a good job with it!
Novigrad is certainly one of the beautifulest cities I walked in in fantasy video games

While not spelled exactly the same, Novgorod, Russia means the same.
novigrad was so big, it actually felt like a real city! completly unlike i have seen in any such rpg.
You need to play better rpg games

Name one time this actually happened.
When did you get the impression that this fictional city was democratic?

This video helps me to absorb Witcher lore more clearly and effectively. Hails and thanks to all involved.
So the Hierarch is practically The Pope, And the Temple guard are the Knights Templar

the temples guards are more like the swiss guard. The knight of the fiery rose would be more like the knight templars.
