Gosh that was fun ! Good band, good song, OK studio ( lol ) and one mic ! I think it does change the way we think about recording.

Get it right at the source!! Engineer measuring and adjusting levels of bass amp with kick drum!

glad to see you're back posting videos. Miss watching these. I hope in future episodes you might discuss your mic preamp choice. Surprised to not see a gizmo with some glowing tubes in it.

Millennia HV3c is my preamp on most OneMic recordings. I also use the AEA on a few.

@@onemic-theminimalist Thanks for the info.....any reason for the different choices? Do you bring both with you and make a choice when you hear the band, or just kinda know that they're both awesome enough to only bring one or the other?

@@davewestner When I traveled up to Portland OR I used an AEA preamp because I didn't want to ship the HV3c. I still prefer the HV3 because it has stepped gain and getting things centered is easy.

@@onemic-theminimalist Great to know, thanks for the info. Having the stepped gain makes a ton of sense.
Looking forward to seeing/hearing what you come up with next. Cheers!

Thank you for your educational videos! I became fascinated with the R88 mic because it captures movement of sound, which I use all the time. You must have a formula for measuring distances from the microphone to various instruments (as demonstrated by the tape measure). How did you come to those measurements? I'm about to embark on more recording projects with the AEA R88 active ribbon mic at my home studio and am closely watching how you do it as my beginning guide.

    The tweed amps look ancient!

Very inspiring and interesting, thanks !
I suppose talent, experience and placement are prior, but which budget to middle range mic would you use to do The same ? Thanks

Glad to hear you like what I'm doing. Technically, you could use any two microphones that are bi-directional (Blumlein pair)

Hey John, very nice and informative material! Very educational! Do you have a recommendation for a stereo ribbon that's not as expensive but kinda sufficient to test your setting? I'd love to try it and might get a second ribbon for a blumlein setting.
