- www.premierguit... PG's Joe Coffey is On Location in Memphis, TN, where he visits the legendary Sun Studio. In this segment, we get a grand tour of one of the most famous studios in the world -- Sun Studio.
Some may say, this is the birthplace of rock 'n' roll with the recording of the "That's Alright." You get to see where Elvis and Scotty Moore stood during that pioneer recording. In addition, Sam Philips recorded Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash and Carl Perkins. The Studio is a one-room place with a lot of the equipment and appointments the building had back in the '50s. Recently, U2 recorded some tracks in the quaint room.

We went through the tour, it was like breathing rarified air. So untouched by time it was spooky
I went here just over a week ago and I don't vare if domenof the equipment isn't original to the studio..the fact that all of those stars especially Elvis Presley recorded in there was enough for me. this was such a spiritual experience and gave me goose bumps and definitely brought tears to my eyes!! thank you fit uploading this. with love from the UK xx
This kid knows his stuff. Just back from our own tour where I got a chance to step up to the "Elvis" mike and make a dream of mine come true. I sang into it. Again, great video tour of a legendary place NOT torn down by the City Fathers (like American Sound on Chelsea and Thomas). Cheers, JG
This gentleman, is still giving tours here. Now he wears glasses has some Elvis sideburns & where's a hat. I was in Memphis & took a tour through the place & I also played a guitar not actually playing it, just strumming it performing the same little trick Johnny Cash used to make the song "walk the line" there were like 25 people in the room who gave me an applause. It was awesome cause it was my very first time going to Memphis & getting this lucky lol. Plus I was wearing a black shirt & coat
Its an small place, no big at all in area but huge in memories, great place to record songs, like good Rock n Roll
What a cool place!
yes, we are fully functional still recording wise and have a TV show that airs on various markets on PBS, check out page here on YT and join us on FB for tv show times and channels. We basically bring in today's rising artists to play on the very floor where all the history was made talked about above. Thanks Premiere!

I see a legendary HAMMOND B3 + Leslie cabinet ! fabulous world reference recording studio.
Someday I will be honored to step inside Sun Records and Jack White's record store in Nashville I grew up listening to Elvis,Johnny Cash,Jerry Lee Lewis etc.
I got to touch those guitars, and I took the tour it's a great place. I EVEN GOT A YELLOW GUM BALL THERE!!!
great video much appreciated
Fun fact: the piano they used for “great balls of fire” had thumbtacks in the hammers which is also known as a tack piano
That studio saw big names
Question does anybody know what song is on the music notes that are on the sun label
How would you reply to cherr0209 above that said her recording there turned out awful? That is disappointing for sure. I was at Sun just last week and was awestruck being there, knowing the history of the place, but it is a solid letdown knowing that today's recordings coming out of Sun might be substandard. Reply?
sorry some of my spelling is bad!! x
Elvis didn’t pay $3 it was $4 he paid to record himself
$3 for one side and $4 for 2 sided
they remodeled the place..destroying it by busting a hole to make a door through the building.
Yeah, don't get the wrong idea: this may be the same building but it's been redone and staged to recreate as close as possible the original space. It was a number of different businesses before becoming the shrine and gimmick studio it is now. Would I pay money to go and tour it? Probably.
The ban against children under five on the tour is a bunch of bullshit.
Safety is their number one priority!
robichj You know what, maybe there's a good reason no-one should talk. Therefore, I do not respect your opinion. Get a life, loser.
Ok, stay safe!
very cool.but why would u2 record there? they definetly DONT sound like a rocknroll band.they sound like a gay pop band.more disco than rock.thanks premierguitar !
