      I also got hooked on the desktop trackpad from using the MacBook Pro. Don't laugh at this, but I go left hand trackpad, centre keyboard, right hand mouse. I keep the keyboard central for comfortable typing.... and going touchpad + mouse when you have to work across multiple monitors and desktops feels like you're in minority report.

      you are holding the magic mouse wrong and you are not using it correctly.
      try again, there is nothing out there that comes close to this.
      forget logitech scrolling this is the usual apple scrolling, 360, speed sensitive, bounceing, and you can brake it with touch and hold.
      you have to lay your hand on the entire thing flat down, pppl think this will interact with the touch but no, this is how its intended, and as with every other mouse and keyboard out there you have to use it for months till your muscles adapt to the new form, the natural form.
      then you have tested it properly.
      there are plenty touch and multitouch functions available, but first you have to use safari and not chrome because chrome does not have all the features.
      1 finger doubletap to ai zoom, doubletap again to go back.
      2 finger swipe left or right up down etc, there is a built in tutorial.
      also you do not have to charge any apple product, you can use the trackpad and mouse for months without a cable.
      you can adjust noise, force, forceclick, zoom ffd rwd click etc, there is so much to learn baout this devices,l it takes time.
      test again, properly

      Apple’s trackpad game is so far ahead of the competition it’s insane… I knew it was good but I didn’t expect it to be THIS good.
      I bought the m1 MBA base model as my first Apple laptop and before that I used to be a windows (for gaming) and Linux (for work) user…
      I used to carry around a mouse and I believed a computer cannot be used without a mouse…. Now I actively dislike using a mouse and learnt to love using the touchpad. My mom has an early 2014’ MBA refurbished by a reputable (not certified tho) shop that I know the owner of … it was a bit overpriced at 400-450€ (at the time ) but other than the battery everything was polished and replaced. My mom says it’s battery still after all that usage from 2014 and its performance are much better than her work laptop she got in 2018 when the school she used to work at got state-funded laptops… specs were not bad, for a work laptop but if that old as heck Mac can outperform it and she also hates using a mouse now, you know apple is doing something very well…
      She also loves macOS now even though she is above 60 so learning a new os is not easy for her. My dad (70+) also loves using it and says it is great and it is much easier to use after a week or so… for work and stuff Mac is the go to option now…
      Gaming is secondary now due to lack of time and the way macOS operates is just way better for everything except gaming

      You edit photos with a mouse? I presume you are referencing photos. How do you blend with a mouse? You have a lot less control compared to a tablet (like a Wacom tablet) especially when blending.
      I highly recommend you give it a go if you have not tried a tablet yourself, mate. The first week can be frustrating while getting used to it. However, once you become accurate with the pen, you get all the benefits a tablet gives you.
      I can’t edit without a tablet now, I find it too frustrating!!

    The sounds dropping in and out might be related to your settings. When you connect the headphones the first time, the software defaults to connect to the closest device in their range automatically or to whichever device is playing sound. In which case, if your phone is between you and the computer (or in your pocket), it might competing with the MacBook for the connection. Because of this, all my Apple headphones (AirPods Max, Pro, and the OG) are set to only connect to the devices "when last connected to them." So, I have to manually connect the headphones which I want to switch it from device to device, but it's less of a convenience instead of it switching randomly, especially when you're in a quiet place like a library.

    Funny i love the magic mouse, especially for the touch screen .. so easy to scroll or double tap to enlarge. For me charging is not an issue. Yes it's a design flaw but you don't have to charge it that often and when you get the notification that it is almost empty than you can charge it for 5 minutes and it will make it to the end of day and you can charge it when you are off the computer or you watching a movie or something. I personally love the ergonomics. bigger mouses feel to lumpy for me .. i don't know maybe i have small hands :)

    There is a firmware you have to upgrade the headphones. You shouldn't return them until you get them functioning properly because they sound better than the Sony or Bose ones. Plus the way they switch from device to phone is pretty nice if you are listening to music and get a call, it will switch automatically. It will constantly switch from device to device without the firmware update.

      I recently got a macbook as a lifelong windows user. I've used several linux distros alongside windows, and did use macs briefly at University. But I have found it a mixed bag. I only use the macbook away from the desk, so I use it solely with the built in trackpad. It's okay, but I do miss a mouse. Mainly when I am dragging things. I was surprised mac os doesn't have many options for windows snapping out of the box. I also find in visual studio, when doing a find in file, if I want to do find in all files, it does it different to windows to fit in the the mac way, and it's really tedious. A lot of other things like shortcut difference are just because I am so used to windows and standard keyboard layouts being different. One thing that is better is settings. Windows 10/11 the settings are all over the place and sometimes it's hard to find what you want. Also the way it handles audio is much better than windows too. If you have external devices and want to record stuff, it's a lot easier to configure things. Biggest plus for me, is the thing feels pretty solid, the screen is decent and the battery life is great.

      @@robwalker4653 For me, the key to making the trackpad great is to go into System Preferences / Accessibility / Pointer Control / Trackpad Options and set the trackpad to use a three-finger drag. It is quick and easy and much more intuitive to me than a tap and drag. If you find dragging on the trackpad uncomfortable in the default settings, give this a try and see if you like it. I agree on the snapping, but there are so many good third party options (I use Swish) that it doesn’t really matter to me. I also had similar utilities under Windows to fine tune things to be the way I wanted. I just see finding the right utilities as part of learning any system.

      Practically - sure. But why?
      Apple does weird stuff all time, but the justification for that is usually "we know better" (and in a lot of cases it's true, even though it usually involves limiting users' options). In this case though... just why? There's no reasonable justification.
      They could've made the charging wireless where you place it on a dock like Apple Watch. Better yet, make the charger optional and have the awkward lighting position an argument in favor of spending extra. You still can't use it while charging, but it makes sense at least. Or they could've made the front of the mouse a bit taller to accommodate a port there (lighting is a very slim port, it wouldn't even change the design that much).
      Instead, you have you're impeccably designed Apple workstation and a mouse laying on the desk upside down with a cable awkwardly sticking out of the middle of it. It's just uncharacteristic of Apple to have that as an official (and only) solution.
      I have most of the first-party accessories (I even have another Magic Trackpad on my PC, it's that good) and Magic Mouse is the only one that I just don't understand. I get the idea, but the product feels like it went for the concept phase straight into production and wasn't revisited ever since.

      @@bezrodnyigor The question why is actually very simple. Apple advertise the magic mouse everywhere as a wireless mouse. They thought that the sight of someone using it while it is plugged all the time is not to great for the product marketing eg instagram photos or some other shit. So they positioned the port in such way that user is simply unable to use it while charging. It is not convenient for a potential user, but it's not a design flaw, they made it that way on purpose.

It has a special thumb gesture button that allows you to do all the swipe gestures by moving the mouse like "4 fingers" while holding down the gesture button. This way I can keep my sanity in applications that either don't fully support the touchpad or use the mouse wheel for some inputs.

    I really appreciate your reviews in this video, and agree with your conclusions. I'm a Mac user who dearly loves his Magic Touchpad. I never even use a mouse on my Mac anymore, and the desk space for the trackpad is actually smaller than most mousepads are. I replaced my Apple keyboard a few years ago with a Reddragon keyboard with real clicky keys that just feel better to type on. And now I'm glad I chose my Bose QC-45s. I didn't even consider the AirPods Max because of their cost. I did try and return a pair of Sennheiser Momentum 3 headphones before deciding on the QC-45s. Like you and the AirPods Max, I did prefer the sound quality of the Sennheisers, but their bluetooth just would not stay connected to either of my HP Windows laptop or my M1 Mac Mini. Worked great on my iPhone, but not my computers. Unlike your QC-35s, the QC-45s don't seem to have a medium noise cancelling mode available on the button. It's either on or off.

I pretty much used them simultaneously for a time, till at some point I started using the Magic Mouse more and more over the MX, the reason for it is the same u got for the touch pad, setting up gestures for the mouse to go back and forth on pages, moving thru desktop by a swipe and very natural feeling scrolls thru pages. It feels amazing using my softwares with it. So yeah, my MX Master 3 started collecting dust because of that now.

    Magic Trackpad always sits next my my Logitech MX keys keyboard, along with a silent mouse, The gestures are super helpful to me as a music producer and wannabe video editor. Scrubbing through the timeline is a breeze, especially in my DAW. Logitech Keys is much better for the reasons you pointed out. If the Magic Mouse wasn't so darn clicky loud, I'd use it everyday. Now it just sits in my drawer. I prefer a silent mouse because I'm super sensitive to sounds. I'm completely Mac for everything, except for my gaming PC that I rarely even turn on. I only game maybe once or twice per month.

  • @77dris
    @77dris 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    I laugh at people who make fun of the Magic Mouse's inability to charge while being used; the design is nearly perfect. I use my iMac 8-10 hrs per day and the mouse will last about 2 - 3 months between charges. And a 10 minute charge will give you days worth of usage if you forget. So I hear people like Linus Tech Tips make fun of the mouse for this and yet he charges his phone every single night but can't charge the mouse a few times a year. Ridiculous!
    I also find the ergonomics of the magic mouse to be much better than the logitech mx mice. I also much prefer the ergonomics of the magic keyboard - the standard size - because it has no numpad so the ergonomics for my mousing hand is way better and no issues with carpal tunnel like with a huge keyboard with a numpad.
    Also, I built PCs for a decade and always had the best Logiech MX mouse and MS keyboards. They always started to look worn and had battery issues after about a year of use then they needed to be replaced. My magic keyboard and mouse both look brand new and have the same battery life now as they did new... and they are 6 years old! I will NEVER use a crappy Logitech MX mouse again (again, I used many of them).

    • @Kai-ow4ek
      @Kai-ow4ek 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Right!! Well said. I also prefer the ergonomics of the magic mouse now. I used to jump on the hate train but when I started using it, I fell in love with it (lol i sound like such an apple fanboy BUT the magic mouse is underrated)
      The mouse feels more natural on my hands (and I have big hands). Since the mouse has a slim profile, my hands can rest on the table and I find it smoother to lift up my right hand to switch to the magic keyboard as they are equally levelled. I sometimes forget that I’m operating a mouse? Which is really magical.
      Other mouses feels like I’m holding onto them and getting my hands off them needs me to fully lift my hands. A lot of mouse curves just feels unnatural to me and the magic mouse is kinda a one-size-fits-all solution. I only charge my mouse once every 3-6 months? And I never turn it off ever.
      Plus I love that the mouse has no charging port at the front. It’s not necessary since the battery health is amazing and it raises up the mouse, which defeats the purpose of its slim profile. Plus I think it looks ugly.
      Latency is also not an issue for me as I mostly do 3D work and light gaming (e.g. minecraft) but if you are a professional gamer, wired all the wayy.
      Lastly, I recommend a trackpad + MM combo. It’s really useful for video editing imo

    • @77dris
      @77dris 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@henriks5008 Least functional? How so? You don't need the mouse to function when charging. You charge it a few times a year and get a week's worth of charge out of 10 minutes of use. There is literally NO reason to charge it when you use it. None.
      People who complain you can't use this when charging is like complaining you can't drive your car when you fill it up with gasoline (or use your Tesla when you charge it). It's asinine. Actually, the same people who don't mind spending 5 minutes filling up their car every other day, or charging their car every single night, complain they have to charge their mouse every 3 months for an hour at night when they sleep. LOL. Idiotic.

    • @77dris
      @77dris 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Kai-ow4ek Agreed Kai! Yes, I use my computer for work and play, so 8-10 hours every single day. My mouse is 6 years old and still lasts 3 months between charges and looks brand new. Not a scratch. It's made of glass and aluminum, not cheap plastic and rubber like logitch MX mice. I play games quite a bit (Dying Light, Tomb Raider, and other AAA titles) on my iMac and no issues with latency at all. And it never loses connection. And I NEVER turn it off. It's just so slick to use and I came from a PC where I used the best MX mice you could buy (and they broke every 8-12 months). The ability to scroll timelines in Davinci Resolve (or Final Cut) or move around an image in all directions by sliding your finger on the magic mouse is a game change for speed for me. Plus it is silent compared to the noisy wheel and buttons on a logitech mouse.
      Why would anybody want to use a mouse when it is plugged in? Makes no sense! Charge it once every season and you are gold! I mean, you can't drive your car when you fill it with gas, or drive your Tesla when you charge it, and you have to do both of those FAR more often (nightly with a Tesla vs a few times a year with a magic mouse).

    number 1 reason for me to still use the Apple Mouse: diagonal scrolling in photoshop! this saves so much time when you're zoomed in deep on a 100MP image for dust removal. Just like the old Apple Mouse with a scroll-BALL instead of a WHEEL, that was such a genius idea. Yes the Logi Mouse can also scroll horizontally, but having to alternate between that and vertical movement to pinpoint where you actually wanna go is really annoying to me in my workflow. the ergonomics of the apple mouse indeed suck big time. Also if you interested in the mouse get the version 1, it runs on AA batteries, rechargable ones that is in my case. ;)
    Edit: Biggest fail on Apple's side for me has always been the non-backlit external keyboard, I mean the damn thing has a fingerprint reader built in. xD
    They were one of the firsts to implement that with laptops, many other manufacturers by now have everything glowing in RGB like crazy, yet Apple wants you to pay for a plastic slab that you cant even see properly in the dark, not to mention the disgusting ergonomics on those "thin" keyboards. However, I thought that Apple always had the best bang for buck in laptops when you take into account quality, and now especially those M chips performance in small devices. But, I found a PC laptop for hundreds less than a Macbook air with the same performance in applications I use, more features, more ports, same build quality and I still am much faster in W10/11. What I've always hated about Apple, even when I loved them, is they think they know best. I know best. That 13 inch Macbook Pro and the Macbook Air. They need an SD card slot. But wait, Apple thinks people that use light affordable computers don't need it and want to use dongles. Do they provide another option? Nope. In PC land, there is always another option.

    The Magic Mouse is OUTSTANDING in my Production Environment. They have a trackpad on them. With Parallels there are a myriad of capabilities. I control 37 Servers as an automation specialist with ease. Example: double tap with two fingers and in the blink of an eye I can see real-time previews of what is happening on all of them and with a single click, move between them. Great for seeing and addressing error dialogs, etc. There are a bunch of other things like that. The charger thing however is something we all laugh about. Also just swipe left and right to go back and forth between Mac and Windows... if it's not working, it's Parallel's fault. It works by default. Check your Parallels' configuration.

    If you try and hold the Magic Mouse like most other mice it’ll feel small but if you lay your hand along, it’s feels great.

    track pad on the left. mouse on the right. might be an extra learning curve but is so worth the features and comfort

    Mouse on the right, trackpad on the left. I use it only for gestures and it's a great combo with the MX3. 👍🏻

    TouchID and the ultra thin design is the only reason I use me Magic Keyboard. For CAD I use the MX 3 mouse because of the missing middle button and the precise scrolling. For everything thing else, the Magic Mouse with its Touch gestures is the most comfort use.

    I totally agree with you about your favorite mouse... A while ago I purchased a 3DConnexion Cadmouse Pro, because I wanted a decent professional mouse - with the middle mouse button as a nice added feature.. turns out the scrollwheel of that mouse just s*cks. I replaced it with the Logitech Master MX 3S and boy, I fell in love with that scroll wheel !

    2 tips for the trackpad… 1. You can lay it in the middle in front of your keyboard and keep your mouse in the same position. 2. Connect it to an apple keyboard with the Twelve South’s magic wand. This will also make you able to use it in the couch with a pc that’s connected to your tv.

    Re the Apple Keyboard: I still use an old school wired Apple Keyboard (with numeric keypad) - the kind that came with the iMacs starting from around 2011. No bells and whistles like Touch ID, but underneath it has a raised bar at the back which props it up at exactly the angle you want for typing. I'm probably going to hang onto this keyboard as long as it still works, even without Touch ID it's not such a big deal because you can always use that button directly on the MacBook Pro itself.
    Re the Magic Mouse: I guess I'm one of the rare people who actually really love it. As a professional user of Logic Pro, once you get used to being able to scroll up-down left-right (as opposed to just a scroll wheel with one axis), there's no going back. It.makes flying around your workspace and the interfaces a breeze. The other gestures are really useful just getting around the OS in general too. I also have very big hands, but this has never been an issue for me, in fact whenever I find myself working on someone else's setup with some kind of pro Logitech mouse or whatever, they always feel really clumsy and chunky to me now. And that's not because I never used them - way back when the original G4 PowerMac came with those terrible hockey puck mice, the first thing you would do is throw it in a drawer and go buy a fancy Logitech one instead. But since the Magic Mouse came along I haven't felt any burning need to look for alternatives - especially given how useful and intuitive the x-y axis scrolling on the touch surface becomes once you're used to it.

    Great video. I would absolutely have to buy the black version of the touchpad to match my MX Keys. On the topic of noisy clicks I have the Logitech M590 which is very quiet, although it takes (rechargeable) AA batteries and I would not get this exact model again for that reason. The relative silence however is wonderful, and switching of both control devices is perfect as my desk area is set up with both MacBook Pro and Surface Laptop.

    Trackpad to the left of the keyboard and mouse to the right. That combined with the mx Master without num keys is perfect for me.

    Track pad color: "Ebony and Ivory live together in perfect harmony." Interesting video! The followup on the headphones should be kool. I almost bought a pair but not even sure I can hear well enough to tell the difference!

    The Logitech MX Keys for Mac is my preferred keyboard. Along with the Logi MX Master 3 mouse they make a great combo. Don't miss the Touch ID since I use an Apple Watch to unlock and authenticate.

    I use the MX master and trackpad in different hands. Put the trackpad in your non dominant hand for an easy way to scrub through timelines and zoom in etc.

    I love most apple products. I use the airpods max every day. Be better with an actual case, on/off switch and better battery but I love it and it’s better than everything else I’ve use.

    I agree the Apple keyboards are a bit flexy, although as a desk accessory, they’ve obviously banked on the desk itself supporting the keyboard, and I have a set of original keyboard/mouse in this style that STILL function and look practically brand new many years later. Bonus: the OG mouse just takes two AA batteries, no helpless turtle charging.

    I have the MX Keys and MX Master 3 Mouse. Both are great. I use it with my Windows and Mac mini, the Flow feature on the mouse is great and it easly goes from the Mac to the Windows computers almost like it is one computer. I do have the Apple Track pad and I love it too. Great Video!
