Thoughts: Would take a bit more work, but you could take the old model and wire it to rechargeable battery with either a USB C mod or go for the insane and add a wireless qi coil.
It might look good, but it is hands down the worlds most "looks and design first, ergonomics last" mouse out there. There is nothing wrong with improving that.
Yeah, but does the older model lack any features the newer model has or is it just the same tech but with a lightning port? And will there be any compatibility issues with newer apple products or just computers in general? I never owned one but I'm just curious.
The problem is there is no better mouse there are no mistakes it’s meant to me used like a trackpad you push it around with your fingers and the trackpad gestures are awesome and everyone who complains about the charging on the mottos has either never used it or are to low on it to charge it once every 2 months or while they go on lunch break or use the toilet
I'm amazed that Apple don't sell a magic mouse dock, that you just "drop" your magic mouse on to charge it. It seems like the most obvious thing, and I've never seen anyone do it.
Other brands already did it a while back. One thing Apple could do is to just implement wireless charging. The mouse only charges using a wireless charger from Apple. That way they can get the cake and eat it too.
Truly, one of the Apple moments of all time. I do like that mousebase though, and might look into using that and actually try the Magic Mouse with this. I like the shape of it more than the shape of the second option you showed, since it looks a lot more like the MX Master that I already use. Great video!
I have never understood the claim it is a bad design. It is on purpose and it achieves the goal: people using the mouse wirelessly. If it could be charged and be used at the same time many people will keep the wire attached… and that’s not the experience Apple want for the mouse 🖱️
@@manart6506 I don't agree at all. I have a wireless keyboard which I would have yo plug into the computer when I have to charge it. Once charging is done, I resume using it wirelessly. Same thing can be said about all the other wireless mice.
@@manart6506 I don't speak for the others but I don't think so. The main reason why people buy wireless mice is because they want more mobility and they lose it when it is wired.
Modern Apple and ergonomics don't mix. This goes beyond their mice - the iMacs have had a fixed height stand for 20 years, which is terrible from a health/ergonomic perspective. Their keyboards are dire. Their phones and laptops have a stupid notch at the top. They insist on putting the ports on the back of their computers, forcing you to awkwardly reach behind them. They design products to look good, not feel good.
Now, now, their keyboards actually improved when they reverted to the traditional scissor mechanism from the failed butterfly one. Of course, they aren’t as comfortable as proper desktop keyboards, but you wouldn’t want one of those on a laptop, right? And it’s not like you can’t angle your laptop to make it more comfortable to type on if you must, especially if it’s a fan-less MacBook Air…
@@Mainyehc Their laptop keyboards are ok now, at least after the butterfly fiasco which they gaslighted users for, for years. But their desktop keyboards are terrible for the price they demand. They're chiclet keys in a desktop case. I'm pretty sure they still don't have illumination. And they have no way to adjust the angle, a BASIC feature on even the cheapest USB keyboard. Apple should be at forefront of peripheral design and should be offering ergonomic keyboards and mice to go with their $1000 display stands. It makes me angry just had bad this stuff is for the prices they charge, especially when I see classrooms with Apple devices encouraging bad posture and RSI.
@@kirishima638 I completely agree here. The Magic Keyboard is really one of those Apple products causing mixed feelings. On the one hand, it looks really good, minimalistic, has the exact same layout as their MacBook keyboard (great for muscle memory) and features TouchID (on some models). But on the other hand, it's really pricey (to the point where you can get 2 nice mechanical keyboards), has no backlight, is an ergonomic nightmare because there's no feet to tilt it up and is a membrane keyboard, which means that once something spills onto it, you can throw it in the trash, while I saved my $70 mech two times already (1x coffee and 1x tea). I didn't and still don't regret selling my Magic Keyboard 2 years ago. It's just not worth it.
@@kirishima638Lenovo Thinkpads have the best laptop keyboards. They are praised so highly by users that Lenovo made a separate keyboard just based on that design that even mechanical keyboard enthusiasts actually said were not bad. The keys extend when the laptop is opened, and retract while closed. That gives it a higher profile and gives more tactile feedback by requiring an ideal key travel by an optimal actuation force.
Remove the charging port and wire a tp4056 (change charge speed resistor, see datasheet) directly to the battery. Relocate the optical tracking pcb to the bottom as well. A 100 hour project+ but you can do it.
@@SS____________ Honestly you couldn't pay me to use it even if it was substantially more ergonomic; but if someone is hell bent on trying to salvage this catastrophe, i respect that. You don't always have to do the reasonable thing, you can just choose to be awesome because you can. Me i'm iterating on the shape of a printed shell for g305. Yes the mouse is good but not for my existing hand injuries, and it's a yet much better rework foundation than it is a mouse. It doesn't strictly need an AA cell, a GP17AAAH is fine. The main PCB is small, the buttons move wherever you want them to since they are not tied into the main PCB.
I think your attempt was pretty dang good. The ergonomic look is pretty stylish and the charging mod didn't look that bad on the side. (Maybe you could mold some sugru around it?) The wireless charging version is pretty clean..... but.... what if you took the charging guts out of it and put it in your ergo version and it was the best of both?
This is probably very difficult, but if the Magic Mouse can be opened, you can just plug a charger for the battery cell itself or take that battery out altogether and use the extra space in the mouse base to add a bigger battery with a charger and possibly wireless charging. The mouse remains usable as the mouse circuit doesn’t see it’s being charged, however you can’t tell if it’s being charged unless the percentage goes up
well that would increase the thickness way too much and it will increase the laser problem and hooking a charger to the battery means that you gotta bypass the BMS which is extremly dangerous and not recommended
sounds like you're unfamiliar with the Magic Mouse 1, which used two AA batteries and didn't have a lightning port. It was the exact same dimensions as the Magic Mouse 2 referenced in this video.
I actually like the look of the magic base with your USB-C mod. Looks different and cool. The wireless charging base is cool too. I have a few magic mice and they are freakin uncomfortable to use. Good old Apple going for form over function again.
No, laser power isn't affected by reflections, in fact lasers in barcode readers are always refleced by vibrating mirrors. Glossy surfaces have lots more problems. I think that this design is a good idea but you need to clean mirror on regular basis.
This is awesome. I have to admit, as a video editor I used to live by the MX Master 3, but I got stuck with a Magic Mouse at the office and after a week I enjoyed it. The connectivity and fluidity was noticeable, and still use it at the office but use the Mx Master 3 for personal use 👍🏽 wish there was a middle of the road option tho 🙏🏽
Why does it matter if the Magic Mouse charging port is on the bottom. According to Apple, charging it for 2-3 minutes will give you a whole day of use.
Also apple lies, I daily drove a magic mouse for about a year, if it died while I was working, a 5 minute charge might give me 1 hour of time, I would have to do 5 minute charges all day. Which is why I no longer use a magic mouse.
@@YD_. OP said "According to Apple, charging it for 2-3 minutes will give you a whole day of use." that is not true, a 5 minute charge will get you maybe an hour of moderate use, and then you have to charge it again. I love the functionality of the magic mouse, but unless you make sure to charge it overnight when it gets low, you are going to have a bad day of work tomorrow.
@@bossgeekknight I can’t find where Apple makes that claim. I only see their claim that a full charge will last about a month in the product description
The moment I saw you connected the mouse and expected it to work I knew what was gonna happen. Some years ago I got a magic mouse from the company I was working on, and tried to charge it and use it. I just plugged the mouse and put the laser in the table, kinda awkward position to try to use a mouse, but it was connected and the laser was doing perfect contact with the table. And yes, the mouse didn't work. I hated that mouse from that day. I makes no sense the mouse wouldn't work while charging, nor it makes more sense having the charging port in that position either... but without a doubt the magic mouse is the worst mouse and apple product in existence. PD. In my own experience, Apple mice work better on Windows...
It makes sense not to work while charging if the device maybe isn’t designed to work like that (working while battery is recharging, bad for battery life or something) and the awkward place of the connection reinforces the idea of “do not use this while charging”… and it takes so little time to charge it that it is a non issue if it can’t be used while charging.
I really tried to work with an apple mouse but the problems you mentioned and bad ergonomics just drove me back to my old logitech mouse. All apple had to do was place the charging port at the front to begin with and let us use it. It gets kinda annoying especially when I have to pause my work just to charge the damn thing.
@@subinrajendran3898 I don’t know why it can’t be fabricated to be charged while being using as it really needs very little time to charge it. But the thing is it needs so little time. It needs charging like once a month and it will only stopped me from working if I forget to charge it in that period. And even if it stops me it will take like a bathroom break to fully charge. I prefer the shape of the Magic Mouse 🖱️ than the ergonomic ones though. It works for how it is used (the touch surface).
9:30 All you had to do first is to plug in lighting to the bare magic mouse and try it on the edge of the desk, to save yourself all the drilling and stuff ;D
I kinda expected that twist in the end. Probably saved another 2cents by not allowing usage while charging. But I do wonder if you used the battery based Version, you could probably replace the batteries with some kind of battery pack that allows charging while using.
Maybe you can charge the mouse intermittently when the mouse stops moving. Put a tiny sbc in it to detect movement and start the charging when the mouse stops moving.
Honestly I love the magic mouse. I also have a fancy mouse for gaming on my PC, but I choose to still use my magic mouse on my mac. My only complaint is the lack of ability to charge while using it. I have decently large hands (L or XL gloves usually) and even using it for 8+ hours per day for years doesn't cause me any issues. I grip the mouse with my thumb, ring and pinky while my index and ring kind of float over the touch surface. To me this is comfortable. However for me the biggest plus is the touch surface. I wish there were dozens of 3rd party options on the market that utilized this feature and innovated on it. In audio or video software having a 2D surface to scroll around on is absolute game changing.
At 10:49 , I was about to suggest adding a wireless charger coil and used the mod with charging pad. Then, you don't have to think of charging the mouse anymore. The design decision to prohibit operation while charging at the same time is related to "ancient" Li-battery tech. The lifespan of battery shortens, risk of battery swelling and fire hazard increase when you allow that around 2009. If I were you, I would disassembly the mouse and reroute the components to fit into the MX Master like mouse base. Cheap Qi coil coins $5~7 with a little bread board supporting wireless charging can be added to the huge area inside the base. You got the perfect magic mouse which is always ~80% charged whenever you pick it up and never worry about charging again. (Unless your cheap $11 wireless charging pad /internal Li-battery dies for some reason)
I can't believe you never tried putting the mouse at the edge of the desk and use it while charging... Literally the first thing one does when charging the mouse for the first time :D
Just saw this video now. Im really curious if have you tried to change the orientation of how the lightning charger is connected to the mouse? The reason is, there are four possible combinations, and one of them might work. I learned about this when i bought a cheap USB-C to lightning adaptor and when I tried it, it didn’t work. But after fiddling with the orientation, I discovered that there is only ONE right way of connecting the lightning adapter, if you are using a USB -C to lightning adaptor (which in fact is the same case here in this video). I hope you would be able to read this, and try it out, and let us know if this work, because that would be super cool if the charger would work in your design.
Easiest solution: I use the first generation magic mouse, no recharging problems, it lasts a LONG time with high quality batteries. If you buy a case similar to the ones in the video for the ergonomics it is very pleasant to use.
the rechargeable one also lasts quite awhile on a full charge and barely needs any time to charge. It doesn't really matter, people just like to pretend that it's a problem. The only real problem is the ergonomics
I have the 2009/2010 era Magic Mouse that runs on 2xAA batteries, and I use rechargeable batteries, so none of the inconveniences of the newer 2015+ models.
While watching this video, I was messing around with plugging it in. I never realized that the curser disappears from the screen when you pick up the mouse. Never knew that.
You could open up the magic mouse and replace the battery with a custom power supply that replaces the batteries power supply and omit the charging circuit of the magic mouse. Even better: Just use one or two AA batteries that can be switched quickly instead of charging the mouse at all. There is so much space inside that first magic mouse case.
If you had asked me, I would have told you anyway. As an Apple employee, I spend approximately 9 hours at home in front of the imac. Unfortunately, the mouse's battery drains when I'm not careful. And then an idea came to my mind. I said I would work with the laser part of the mouse on the table and the charging cable not touching the table. but the idea didn't work. In short, yes, it was stupid.
Once again, I’ll never understand people who have a “problem” with the design of the charger being on the bottom. When the computer notifies you of a low battery you could keep working and wait until the end of the day to charge the mouse. You do not need to be using the mouse while it’s charging. It’s not nearly as big a deal that people claim it to me.
that's why i prefere my ergonomic logitech mouse, it's wireles, when you need to charge it you make it work wired and even if you don't like charging it wired you can buy the fitting mousepad to charge it wirelesly while using it
I use the Magic Mouse since 2013 and I absolutely love it as it is. I understand some people being not comfortable with it. But for the charging issue, it’s a trivial issue indeed. I charge my mouse every month or slightly less. So turning my mouse for charging over night is not a big deal.
You could say the same for the MX Master from Logitech. I only charge it once every month or so. But then yesterday, I sat down with a little bit of rare free time to play some Deep Rock Galactic, only to realize my mouse was almost dead. No big deal, I plugged it in and kept going.
@@fallofshadows2209 Nice point indeed. Of course this use case is much better. However, Apple Magic Mouse is more natural for a Mac. This is why I love it.
Ok ok ok since you did all that work, I have an idea. What if you made the project 10x more complicated by putting a microcontroller inside with an accelerometer. Set it up so when the mouse hasn't moved for, say, 15-20 minutes to initiate charging. That way your mouse "goes to sleep" when not in use and either stops charging when it detects motion, or after some pre-determined "this is how long it takes to charge a magic mouse back to full" time. If you leave it plugged in it'll always be charged but never be charging when you want to use it, and you can also unplug it whenever and trust that it has a full charge. Way more work than it's actually worth, but you would probably get like 95% of the product you originally envisioned. It was a good and entertaining video regardless and thank you for posting 👍
It's the best. with BTT (paid, has a trial) you can add even more C: i have three finger swipes to scroll between and close tabs, and two from the very bottom to reopen closed tab
For everyone saying the charger being a non issue due to the infrequency of charging it while is use, you’re correct. However the precedent set by EVERY OTHER MOUSE ON THE MARKET has been a way to charge the device without having to invert it or dangle it off of the side of your desk. For a company obsessed with simplicity, Apple really cluttered up the process of simply charging a mouse.
You can use an old magic mouse and add 2 usb c batteries to it. Add a usb c splitter and the same connection you did in this video and you're good to charge it with one cable on the front and use it at the same time possible unless those batteries have the same restriction. It's old so it just works if it gets the battery voltage.
huge upgrade but gotta say that height difference and location of the bottom feet and skirting edges at the bottom that makes me self conscious whenever I lift the mouse with that contraption was the final straw to scrap that thing...plus it wasn't ergonomic as it boasted, that edge running on the left side between your thumb and index finger was so intrusive to the point of discomfort...got a magsafe charge base for magic mouse and was way better investment than that ergonomic base.
The thing with the Magic Mouse charging on the bottom to my knowledge is that it charges quickly, and lasts months before having to recharge. I don't have a Magic Mouse(thinking about actually getting a used one on eBay just to test this), but I've heard so many people say that that it _has_ to be true
Here's an idea for improving the charging pad. Make a hollow rectangular pad , in a more convenient size and mount the pad inside so its surface is flush with the new pad's. Cover it with any convenient material (cloth, PVC film etc) any you'll have a more stable platform for resting the mouse, instead of that little round target.
I still think the first reason is because Apple wants to make it clear the mouse is not for use while charging… why the design of the mouse is like it is? that is another topic, but the placement makes total sense for the way it works.
@@manart6506 but why shouldn't a mouse be used while charging? Considering how striking this mouse looks, the aesthetics consideration should be the most likely.
@@haomingli6175 my best guess is it isn’t because it damages the battery (I imagine it does but insignificantly)… but that Apple designed the mouse to be wireless and having the option for it to work wired would result in a pretty amount of people leaving the wire plugged in. It is for aesthetics, the brand and concept as intended. I think so.
Take the magic mouse and disassemble it (don't brake the flex cable ) see how long the flex cable is and 3d print something so you can fit the bottom part of the magic mouse in side of the 2:21 Mousebase so it is closer to the surface of the table ! and put the top part on top (don't for get to see if flex cable length and then make the 3d printed parts) this should fix some or all of the sensitivity problems ! for charging Use a Tp4056 USB-C lithium battery charging module (get the one with the charge protection) and run wires directly to the battery (you will have to solder stuff and if it's hard to find a place to fit the USB-C port, un-solder the USB port and run wires to a new USB port and hot glue the port to the Mousebase )
Controversial hot take: I actually like the ergonomics of the magic mouse. I rest my hand on the desk next to it and just flick it around with my fingers. It also keeps my fingers above it so I can use the touch gestures-which I do a lot. Yes the charging this is ridiculous, but my solution is that I've just built it into my workflow to charge it over the weekend. Its the last thing on my checklist before I head home each Friday.
I don’t understand why ppl need to charge the mouse and use at the same time? Once it is fully charged, my Magic Mouse last from anywhere from 1 - 2 months with heavy use. And when it drops to below 5%, just charge it overnight and next day it is back at 100%. And regarding the ergonomic, i can use it all day and it doesn’t feel uncomfortable to me. But i have a small hand
You're holding it wrong. Your thumb and ring finger should hold the mouse on the sides. Your palm should not touch the surface because it's touch sensitive. Your pointing and middle finger should also be lifted away from the surface of the mouse and should only be used when doing right or left click. It may take time of getting used to, but once you got it, it would be amazing!
First thing I thought about when I started playing this: "Is it possible to charge and use the device? Probably not because that was a lawsuit in the making with stories like 'toddler lose sight after staring at Apple magic mouse' or some bs like that." . GUESS WHAT
I think Apple should release a product called Magic Mouse Pro. It'd be like the Magic Mouse, but with an actually ergonomic shape, and wireless charging. You still can't use it while it charges, but it's easy to drop it into a dock, and it'd charge to full capacity in less than an hour.
Magic Trackpad for me works great, BUT, if I had to use the Magic Mouse, then that wireless charging solution is probably the best. If you can figure out how to use CAD software and 3D print your own, then you should give it another go, especially now that the Magic Mouse, Magic Trackpad, and Magic Keyboard are all USB-C.
I've heard it wasn't just to save money, but to make sure ppl don't use it with a cable, that would also explain why they made the effort of disconnecting while charging
I have small hands so the magic mouse doesn't bother me. But I did enjoy what you did with the mold and the charging cable. It looked great imo. Just too bad Apple cuts function during charging.
It really does blow my mind how the company that made the mouse mainstream haven't made a mouse that wasn't flawed in obvious and easily fixed ways purely for the sake of appearance in 25 years...
Weird that you can't take the magic mouse apart and place bottom part on the bottom of the adapter to have good laser performance while keeping the top where it's ergonomic
Apple needs to definitely make a "Magic Mouse Pro" with the ergonomics like the mouse base and charging port on the front. It will sell like hot cakes and people can finally ditch all alternative third party mice! What are you waiting for Apple? Please make a decent mouse for the first time in history!
Great video. something I've been tackling as well. Got the Mouse Base, don't like how my hand sits on it so I modified a 3D print design so that the mouse sits flat on the desk and just has a more ergonomic grip on the sides. I will eventually make a video of my own for my new channel @everyday3dtech talking about this. Your video has definitely inspired me for that. I'm also going to check into that wireless base so thanks for the link to that as well.
Something people doesn’t seem to even slightly consider is Apple doesn’t want people to use this wireless mouse while attached to a wire… it isn’t the experience they wish for Apple users, so they made it impossible to use while the wire is attached, it stops working at all and the charging port is in a place to make you understand it is not meant to be used with a wire attached. It is a device meant to be totally wireless in use, free of wires. In the other hand their keyboards work with Bluetooth but also wired (not only for charge but to communicate directly to the Mac, even with Bluetooth off) and it doesn’t change the experience because we don’t move the keyboard once we choose it’s place.
But they could just provide a high quality light weight braided cable for charging/wired use, similar to the one Razer uses, and they'd give you the ability to charge without degrading the experience, this is obviously what customers want
A merge of the two devices you found would be ideal. I would have hoped for some detail on how the wireless charger handles the extra distance from the surface when compared to the Mouse Base, does it still use mirrors, does it still work on smooth surfaces like the desk?
Going further to disassemble magic mouse and reroute its components shall eliminate those concerns. Cheap $5~7 wireless charging coli Coin and a tiny breadboard supporting Qi charging can be modded into the mouse base. Then, putting a $11 wireless charging pad below the mouse mod will suffice.
@workfromhype as for that last thing you mentioned about the macbook experience on a desktop, there is an accessory called the Trè which is a "tray" to hold your keyboard and trackpad in a macbook conformation and the Big Trè which is for the bigger keyboard with the numberpad
Hey I think I have a solution to your problem you can insert a sensor that sees movement and stops the charging when the mouse moves. Thanks for a great video❤.
Even if it doesn't work completely because Apple won't design a mouse that makes sense, it is still improvement. USB-C charging is a win considering that even most of the Apple offering is using USB-C and the shell attachments looks like it can actually work without giving you carpal tunnel after 5 minutes of usage. I'd still use just normal better designed mouse but some people got fooled into buying magic mouse so this could help them.
11:28 the shape of that ceramic brick is nothing like the gpro and it never will be, the magic mouse is garbage and the actual solution is to buy an actually good mouse
I knew from the beginning it wouldn't work with the cable plugged in as it disables the mouse completely while charging, I was hoping for some coding to be involved to get around this but I guess I was a bit dissapointed
0:57 NOPE! Millions of people FORCED themselves to love the mouse. Maybe because of the very cool touch operation or the looks or the bluetooth? But not the usefulness of the design. Your hands cramping up isn't called "Magic hands" its called R.S.I.
also seen videos years ago about people complaining that it does not matter that the port is on the bottom, the mouse is disabled while its charging. Trillion dollar company folks.....
Dude! All you had to do is pass your finger over the laser sensors under the Magic Mouse while the charging port is connected and you see that it doesn’t work while charging. That was the first thing I did before embarking on a redesign journey. I was set to find a solution to the charging problem years ago but gave up 30 seconds later when I realized the mouse turns off while charging. I guess Apple knew someone would be bothered by this so they decided to make it impossible to design a solution. Bad Apple!
Bit late to the party here, but could you add a charge circuit to the space and charge the cell directly, thus hopefully not letting the mouse know the cell is being charged?
The Magic Mouse is a great product and I can even understand the decision to place the charging port that way. For me it's not a big problem, I have a cable with an angled connector to avoid turning the mouse over. But if you really can't stand this, then buy another mouse, these adapters and bases are useless. We all know that the mouse does not work when charging, it seems ridiculous to present this situation as a surprise at the end of the video.
maybe take the mousebase and make a dock for it using a block of wood and a hot glue gun, maybe a few pieces of rubber to like up the charger. they do make docks for the magic mouse but it has to be naked, but the idea could be adapted.

Or just get a mouse that’s not complete dogshit for half the price
The mouse remains usable as the mouse circuit doesn’t see it’s being charged, however you can’t tell if it’s being charged unless the percentage goes up
And while you are at it maybe see about moving the sensor/Lazer down. So its closer to the surface.
well that would increase the thickness way too much and it will increase the laser problem and hooking a charger to the battery means that you gotta bypass the BMS which is extremly dangerous and not recommended
Or just throw the Magic Mouse in the trash where it belongs and buy something worth using.
sounds like you're unfamiliar with the Magic Mouse 1, which used two AA batteries and didn't have a lightning port.
Wow i bought one and returned it as it wouldn't work right at all guess it came dirty, what a waste
The accuracy of the "magic mouse" isn't that good either.
This is awesome. I have to admit, as a video editor I used to live by the MX Master 3, but I got stuck with a Magic Mouse at the office and after a week I enjoyed it. The connectivity and fluidity was noticeable, and still use it at the office but use the Mx Master 3 for personal use 👍🏽 wish there was a middle of the road option tho 🙏🏽
there is Logitech mx anywhere 3S and its like middle of the road)))
Why does it matter if the Magic Mouse charging port is on the bottom. According to Apple, charging it for 2-3 minutes will give you a whole day of use.
because people like to complain, or they choose not to read.
Also apple lies, I daily drove a magic mouse for about a year, if it died while I was working, a 5 minute charge might give me 1 hour of time, I would have to do 5 minute charges all day. Which is why I no longer use a magic mouse.
@@bossgeekknight what’s the lie here, their claims are in line.
@@subinrajendran3898 people vote with their wallet. I just recently bought another Magic Mouse for my new MacBook.
@@manart6506 Bad design is still bad design, even if it came from your favorite corporation.
Looks so similar to Logitech MX Master 3... just buy that, probably cheaper and better
What’s The Name \ Link Of That 4 Volume Knobs Under Your Display?
9:30 All you had to do first is to plug in lighting to the bare magic mouse and try it on the edge of the desk, to save yourself all the drilling and stuff ;D
I kinda expected that twist in the end. Probably saved another 2cents by not allowing usage while charging.
But I do wonder if you used the battery based Version, you could probably replace the batteries with some kind of battery pack that allows charging while using.
Have you previously worked as a video editor at Discovery? For example, did you work on the meme about the never-ending truck crashing into a barrier?
12:35 Why not simply remove the bottom plate and move/resolder the sensor closer to the surface?
maybe watch a teardown of the Magic Mouse 2 first lmao
Great Video. Nice Soundtrack, Entertaining, informative and fun to watch! Congrats!
Props to you for taking the initiative to improve the Magic Mouse experience.
Totally not me hyperfocused to my monitor watching this... :D Sorry you didn't find the wireless charging base sooner... lol
that's why i prefere my ergonomic logitech mouse, it's wireles, when you need to charge it you make it work wired and even if you don't like charging it wired you can buy the fitting mousepad to charge it wirelesly while using it
I use the Magic Mouse since 2013 and I absolutely love it as it is.
Man that would be a crazy build that I sadly do not have the skills to pull off lol
@@WorkFromHype totally would not be worth the payoff either but I just kept thinking of how it could theoretically be done haha
I am firmly in the magic trackpad camp. I love Apple's gestures. By far the best feature they have. I want to maximize that.
For a company obsessed with simplicity, Apple really cluttered up the process of simply charging a mouse.
have your tried out the logitech mousepad with wireless charging? would this also block the mouse from functioning while charging?
You can use an old magic mouse and add 2 usb c batteries to it. Add a usb c splitter and the same connection you did in this video and you're good to charge it with one cable on the front and use it at the same time possible unless those batteries have the same restriction. It's old so it just works if it gets the battery voltage.
That is the most stupid design of a mice i’ve ever used. It is absurdly unusable.
huge upgrade but gotta say that height difference and location of the bottom feet and skirting edges at the bottom that makes me self conscious whenever I lift the mouse with that contraption was the final straw to scrap that thing...plus it wasn't ergonomic as it boasted, that edge running on the left side between your thumb and index finger was so intrusive to the point of discomfort...got a magsafe charge base for magic mouse and was way better investment than that ergonomic base.
The thing with the Magic Mouse charging on the bottom to my knowledge is that it charges quickly, and lasts months before having to recharge. I don't have a Magic Mouse(thinking about actually getting a used one on eBay just to test this), but I've heard so many people say that that it _has_ to be true
Why not solder a battery and a usb c controller charge port to the 2009 Magic Mouse upgrade.
I don't think they chose to put the charging port on the bottom to save money. It is to make the exterior look perfect from above and on the sides.
I think so.
Take the magic mouse and disassemble it (don't brake the flex cable )
see how long the flex cable is and 3d print something so you can fit the bottom part of the magic mouse in side of the 2:21 Mousebase so it is closer to the surface of the table !
and put the top part on top (don't for get to see if flex cable length and then make the 3d printed parts)
this should fix some or all of the sensitivity problems !
for charging
Use a Tp4056 USB-C lithium battery charging module (get the one with the charge protection) and run wires directly to the battery (you will have to solder stuff and if it's hard to find a place to fit the USB-C port, un-solder the USB port and run wires to a new USB port and hot glue the port to the Mousebase )
Why bother having stairs in your house when you can just jump out the window?
The apologetics are insane.
😂 “The problem isn’t the obviously shitty and unergonomic design, you’re just foolishly holding it like a normal human being would hold a mouse!”
Magic Mouse 1 also have a wireless charger. I´m still using it since 2012. It´s awesome and the battery last a complete week.
Maybe you could integritet the wireless charger from the second case in to the first case? I really like the first design more.
Did Apple released some new firmware for this mouse? I have tested charging and using this mouse on the edge of table and it works simultaneously.
I can't believe that a company that's making products for professionals doesn't produce a mouse that you can comfortably use the whole day
Magic Trackpad for me works great, BUT, if I had to use the Magic Mouse, then that wireless charging solution is probably the best. If you can figure out how to use CAD software and 3D print your own, then you should give it another go, especially now that the Magic Mouse, Magic Trackpad, and Magic Keyboard are all USB-C.
Underrated channel! Absolutely loved this video!
0:58 “millions” is quite a stretch
New project! Put guts of wireless charging base into more comfortable base! Best of both worlds.
Or just redesign the regular magic mouse
It really should just be the base mouse. Ergonomics and a better, faster sensor is what the magic mouse desperately needs.
what is the problem with the Magic Mouse charging the battery lasts like 9 days on it like its not a big of a deal
Dude, this project was so much fun to watch. Thank you.
never thought that a glass panel on top of an mx master shaped block of plastic would look so good
Something people doesn’t seem to even slightly consider is Apple doesn’t want people to use this wireless mouse while attached to a wire… it isn’t the experience they wish for Apple users, so they made it impossible to use while the wire is attached, it stops working at all and the charging port is in a place to make you understand it is not meant to be used with a wire attached.
@@kalle5548 Apple being Apple has its own idea of what the users want or need, and they put their investment on it.
It's honestly kind of frustrating how there hasn't been a solid ergo mouse update for the magic mouse.
Then, putting a $11 wireless charging pad below the mouse mod will suffice.
wouldnt it be possible to use a AA battery magic mouse and replace the battery with a usb c to charge it?
If you use the mount you made, and one of those magnetic charger things, it could possibly be a decent mix of convenience and comfort
@workfromhype as for that last thing you mentioned about the macbook experience on a desktop, there is an accessory called the Trè which is a "tray" to hold your keyboard and trackpad in a macbook conformation and the Big Trè which is for the bigger keyboard with the numberpad
Hey
I think I have a solution to your problem you can insert a sensor that sees movement and stops the charging when the mouse moves.
Thanks for a great video❤.
Me who use a MacBook Pro, and still uses a 5 SE that uses a lightning cable: "I missed the part where that's my problem"
I knew from the beginning it wouldn't work with the cable plugged in as it disables the mouse completely while charging, I was hoping for some coding to be involved to get around this but I guess I was a bit dissapointed
the number of technical oversights in this video are pretty impressive
The fact you didn’t think at all abt the mouse not working whilst charging made me bawl laughing
Would it be better to use the Magic Mouse 1 with this method of changing ? Or can you add wireless charging into a mat and the mouse?
there are mice that use the included mousepad to charge
How make the mouse pad a wireless charger so you do not have to put it on this thing but just slide it on the side of your mouse pad
U learned a good thing, a 5$ mouse can be a lot better than that
Hello, is this case suitable for model 3?
honestly a great video. a wfh banger for sure
…You do realise that it being a solved problem everywhere else is why it’s a surprise? $10 bargain bin mice are able to be charged while you use them.
actually there are kinda of mag safe usb-c ports cables you can buy and then you can make a magnetic charging base
can't you just open up the mouse and add hook up a charging chip, right to the battery? The mouse wouldn't know it's being charged.
The fact that the underside charging design sold for **8 years** says a lot about the people buying this stuff.
maybe take the mousebase and make a dock for it using a block of wood and a hot glue gun, maybe a few pieces of rubber to like up the charger. they do make docks for the magic mouse but it has to be naked, but the idea could be adapted.
if you using that application how is that spam call reached you ?
