Hey there Chelsea! I’m so thrilled that you read my question and actually tried it! Very cool! I have tons of polish and after learning about dip powder I thought I might never use them again. Now I can use them and still have longer lasting manicures. I even bought a few new colors. Your channel is great and your detailed videos have helped me so very much. The nicest thing is that my nails are longer and stronger than they have been in years. Thank you so much for trying out this idea!!!

Hi friends! So it’s been brought to my attention that it’s VERY important for the nail polish to be FULLY dry before doing any other enhancements on top. So gel top coat, dip powder etc. Looking back I think that maybe that’s what caused the lines on my nails? Again, I’m not licensed so this was just a personal experiment. Covering up polish while still wet can cause a moisture issue which can create “greenies”. So pleaseeee make sure it’s dry 🫶🏻

Im new to doing my own dip powder nails...I love your videos Chelsea! They have helped me a lot!! One other person Ive watched (so sorry cant remember her name) showed she doesnt buff or file on her natural nails at all...she puts the base coat on her entire nail BEFORE doing the dip powder. When it dries then you start with putting on your base and then dipping in your powder like normal. I started doing that so I wouldnt mess up my natural nails anymore. It works GREAT! The base liquud has a bit of a rough texture to it so everything attatches like it should to your nails, No chipping or anything and my nails are getting stronger. I am so glad I saw this video!! I too have polishes I thought I couldnt use anymore. Definitely trying this!

I have tried nail polish ON dip and it works beautifully! I feel like it actually applies easier because you’ve smoothed the dip powder + shaped the cuticle area. So it’s sort of a like a “guide” for the polish. Then when you want to change the polish you can use nail polish remover to swipe it off or buff it off. 🫶🏻

It looks pretty but what worries me as I heard from either Nail Career Ed or Nail Hub is that sandwiching nail polish for a significant amount of time can cause greenies because for nail polish to be 100% dry. It takes 24-78 hrs. It might trap moisture under the clear dip. It may be good for a week but more time could be a concern and it goes for NP with gel or acrylic

Hi Chelsea. I watched this video and gave it a try. I did it yesterday and it turned out great for me. When filing/buffing to smooth it all I may have filed a bit too much along the side walls. My right thumb has already chipped, or whatever it did, just at the edge of the side wall/outer corner on both sides of the thumb. I'm just going to put another layer of clear on to help protect those edges. I think it is very easy to file too much, at least for me, since there are only the two layers. I may do a third clear layer next time. I will do this polish with the clear dip manicure on top the next time.

I’m also curious if Seche Vite would work as base liquid with dip since it’s quick drying and thick. 🤭

It could be a few things! It might be a slow drying dip base. Some brands have veryyy slow drying liquids. I also find that where we dip makes a difference. For example, inside near a fan, outside, if the AC is running etc. To help with slower drying liquids, if I notice the nail is still wet looking then I like to redip back into the color on each nail and wait a minute before brushing off. Would it be safe to use the regular base, that you used under the polish, with dip powder for that first dip layer?

    • @SipAndDip

Like in replacement of the dip liquid base or as a barrier BEFORE starting the dip base? 🧐

@@jleaclark so happy you gave it a try! I’m sure there’s some sort of loophole on preventing those ridges 🧐 if I had more time I would have played around with polish top coats/base coats. Hopefully when I get some spare time I can try again!

I wonder if it would eliminate those ridges if one used the gel technique on the dip powder? I know that you’re not supposed to use clear with the gel technique so I guess it’s a nonstarter… 🤔

    • @SipAndDip

Definitely an idea! I also thought about if I should have tried maniology’s smudge free top coat before starting dip 🧐 when I get a chance I’m going to try it out and see and pin a comment. I ran out of time for the experiment 😆
