The reason fat acceptance has become a thing is because people think being fat is acceptable, which isn’t necessarily bad, but when you lie to people and say that it’s not unhealthy or doesn’t affect many other aspects of your life, that indicates to me that we’ve lost any indication of right and wrong in the modern day. People will justify any actions, regardless of how atrocious, with ideology like the aforementioned-not realizing that what they’re doing is ultimately making the lives of the next generation worse, because all of a sudden, all these addictions are socially okay.

Studies show that shame is a really bad motivator for change. Think about it logically: if shaming people into losing weight worked, we wouldn't have the obesity epidemic. It might have motivated YOU, but you're an outlier. For most fat people it just makes them miserable and makes it harder to affect lasting behavioural change, which is the only way to actually keep the weight off. Shame sucks.

I'm not tryna hate, but as someone who does body building and plan to get up on a stage, there is a very clear reason to why body builders T 3-4-5-6% body fat are miserable and it's literally because they have no energy, they're dried out to show their muscle definition and as they eat so little to get down to that body fat it's obvious they'd be miserable, they can't feel anything but misery when they eat so little, but even that, the sport of body building is incredibly fun and enjoyable to compete, it's not the healthiest of sports but who ever does it understands that and chooses to compete and/or just does cuts to see their muscles and their progress raw.
I doubt pyro will read this but I just felt like commenting and maybe helping those who don't understand body building and well how nutrition effects our moods, well, understand better.

What people never seem to bring up in this is that eating too much is clearly an addiction. I'm not overweight but I can totally see how you would be eating too much bad stuff while hating yourself for it at the same time. What fitness people don't realize is that fat people don't really have a choice whether to eat more because they are literally addicted to it. And the same factors that lead to addiction also lead to being unable to bring yourself to work out. Also, these alpha males make a gym an even more uncomfortable environment for a fat person to be in, essentially gatekeeping and hindering the people who need it most.

I think the question is a bit warped, you don’t actively make a choice to not do something you feel you can’t. I’ve been obese before and it genuinely felt impossible to change at times because it’s a complete mental shift, and most of the time you need some sort of major life changing motivation to get your ass back on track.

I just cannot get over the fact that people are obsessed over what “most people find attractive” that is such social media brain. I hardly like any men that my friends like and they don’t like my men. We have never had a talk about not liking men that are fat or something like that, but we have talked about how people treat us. I can spend six hours on the phone with a friend talking about how our men treat us, how we feel about their family, where we think this is going, how he treats the people in his life.. I’ll never get the obsession talking about how we lie all the time. Stay off the Internet then.

  • @TheMetalfreak360

For me it is always been about liking where I am at, if I can wear just a t-shirt and feel comfortable doing so, then I am good in my books, and as long as my health is normal.
Even now when I am trying to loose weight before wedding, I am not gonna do it at the expense of enjoying life, fuck eating white rice and unseasoned chicken or whatever the fuck else. I am gonna enjoy my beef steak and take a walk to the mountain with friends instead.
And I agree on the body positivity, I have liked it before, when it was to counter the insane skinny bodies we saw in magazines and girls literally stopped eating to get skinny like them, I have seen a lot of girls my age, absolutely ruin their bodies growing up because of the insecurity it brought. But I feel the way it is now, with the complete opposite, of making the fat body look like a temple and avoid any talk about how bad it is for you, is also extremely harmful.
There has to be a middle ground *wink* there.
For real, gotta ask people, have you walked around the street, and actively thought about how fat or skinny somebody is? Ofc there is gonna be cases, but all the time? Or quite often? Because I personally don't really care about what people look like when I walk around or talk to them. People are just people. I dunno what else to say.

In all seriousness, being fat is absolutely a choice 99% of the time because it’s not like people do not know the dangers of being big. In lots of cases, especially in America’s fucked healthcare system, thyroid hormone imbalances and other health issues really fuck people up. I shoe horses for a living. Even when I was doing 80 hour weeks in 100°F heat beating hot metal and holding lazy fucking horses up with my body while trimming or nailing shoes on, eating a sandwich, small baggie of classic chips and an apple for lunch, bagel for breakfast and only water for 8 months, I still couldn’t weigh in less than 200lbs.
