You actually missed something that is crucially important to getting an accurate picture of the employment situation in Markarth - the place called "The Warrens". It's a downtrodden set of halls in the belly of Markarth where the sick, poor, and unemployed are housed. Enumerating this section as well will bring up the unemployment numbers of the city, and also point to some concerning trends in the city - the poor, sick, and unemployed being shunted away out of sight suggests a very grim view on "undesirables" in the city, and in combination with the use of slavery in Cidhna Mine, it seems that while there is enough work for a larger portion of the populace to be employed, the use of slave labor takes jobs aways from those who need them, increasing the rift between the working class and the land owners of Markarth. It also suggests a critical lack of social security systems, despite Markarth being a seemingly very wealthy city.
So their scheme worked? Keeping the downtrodden out of sight gave them a much lower observed unemployment rate than one would expect, given the condition of their neighbors.

11:35 “communing with dibella” is what I call getting a sub sandwich
When the housecarl asks you what you are doing in the throne room and you can respond "I'm looking for work", I thought there would be a comment because that is technically why you are there.
Also, you forgot to visit the Warrens, aka the place where all the unemployed people live.
This is your best yet, thank you
Fuck yeah. Employment survey.
Vorstag is definitely not a lady, he was one of my first Skyrim husbands. Wait till he goes down to his skivvies for a swim - hubba hubba! And for the census - I snagged him by employing him first. He does have a weird thing for Dwemer places, we just moved away so I don't have to hear him talk about that all the time.
I also note you mention there isn't as much civil conflict in Markarth as in Dawnstar. However, the Forswarn issue (did that nice lady die or was she saved when you first arrived) may play a role.
BTW, love the hair clips :D
Your monotone dead voice always makes the process so entertainining. Please continue your important job of figuring out unemployment rate
such a fun series, thank you for the presentation and style, and for your wonderful voice, and for the effort of keeping track of a bunch of npcs wandering into walls and buildings you didnt know exist when doing a normal playthrough.
You don't have to worry about the run time, I wish this was twice as long
Really looking forward to this series in other games
love the extra editing you did (hopefully it was fun)! the windmill at the end was my favorite
The bit at 10:04 was top notch
seeing the hair clips edited onto your skyrim character was *chef's kiss* phenomenal
You said you only have one more city to do which I assume is Windhelm.
But
Don't forget about Raven Rock
My favorite part of these is the analysis at the end, because it always ends up being an actual exploration of the lore and a critical look into the worldbuilding. Good stuff.
The new editing style is impressive, but i do prefer the longer less editing more intimate edits
didnt think id have a mr hands reference in a markarth unemployment rate video on my bingo card
The money counter could be an accountant.
The editing on this one is really popping off. I love all the little details you included!
Am I the only one who always avoided Markarth because it always felt like I was hated there? Even without the ridiculous murder plot, NPCs are so grumpy and hostile
This series of Skyrim reports has been fantastic. This one has been the best so far. Your humor and delivery is so entertaining. Your (seemingly) lack of knowledge of Skyrim is actually refreshing and serves for some hilarious interactions. Commenting for more!
you missed the warrens!!
7:06 subtitling the random guard butting in is so good.
In before Austin fixes the title. For future reference, at time of posting it says "Markarth as a 1.2% unemployment rate".
Super excited for this big analysis video! Thanks so much for uploading!
I clicked within 33 seconds. 😂
You must be unemployed ❌
@@Atomhaz Nope. I am just free to make my own schedule.
@any_austin I know this isn't related, but I wanted to tell you how much I love your music, I had surgery last week and your music was what got me up and dancing for the first time. Thanks for being such a cool, talented guy!
The extra effort you put into this one is noticeable! Good job! Delightful as always
big fan of the editing in this one! loved the transitions and the prison labor bit. I still enjoy the old format that's more casual as well but the editing added a lot to this video :)
Production sure has improved. Good job
1:49 as a metalhead i can confirm this is not a job
1:39 LMFAOOOOO!!!!!!!!
my favorite series on the internet has returned. happy day!
The editing in this video got me so good, especially that windmill one, that had me going WOOOOOOO
5:46 “f***in chop”
